Went there last night with hubby and the service was outstanding from start to finish. The hostess was great, the waitress was amazing, and the bartender brought out one of the drinks himself and took it off the bill cause there was a delay with it. The food was OK, i wasn't very hungry so I only got their olives and a burrata appetizer which I wouldn't get again. It was just a blob of burrata with bread, nothing special. The hubby got steak skewers and asparagus which were good. I'm giving this place 5 stars for the service and the atmosphere, the jury is still out on the food but I'll definitely be back. read more

Ok, so to start we have a house divided because I loved this place and wife was "so-so". She's not a big red sauce fan and we had decided to split dinner this evening, coming to meet up with a friend. Friend has been here a lot...loved that everyone greeted her by name! The Taste of Tempe is going on right now and although we looked over the simple fixed price menu, decided to go with their lasagna and Caesar salad. Salad was fresh and really good and loved the addition of the fried capers for that salty bite. Their dressing is a bit different than others, not as goopy and thick as some Caesar dressings can be. There are also tasted bread crumbs in place of chunks of croutons. I truly loved it! Their lasagna is so good! Their sauce is a combo of beef and pork Bolognese so it's more on the creamy side with the tang of the tomato base and according to the menu, the cream comes from their cream sauce. Together, it creates a tasty addition to the layers of noodles and the serving size was perfect to share for two. Friend had the ravioli, which is served in a creamy mushroom sauce with a hint of the truffle and thyme. I had to try and bite and would definitely have this dish next time. Light and delicious. For dessert we were recommended the tiramisu and that was not disappointing in the least! Layers of lady fingers and whipped mascarpone was so good and not overly sweet. Both the wife and friend topped their meal off with a limoncello, which we learned was made in-house. Wife said it was strong but loved that lemon flavor. My wife and I visited with another couple. It was our first time there. The place is small, however not im a bad way, it was intimate. We had a reservation for 4 for 6:30p and were seated immediately. The place was full so I strongly recommend you make a reservation. We were thinking of doing the "Taste of Tempe" meal but decided against it. I got Chicken Parm and my wife got Steak Frites. Our friends got the lobster ravioli and the spaghetti, oh, we also had melon and prosciutto and sashimi as an appetizer. ALL of it was delicious. The piece of chicken they give you is huge and the steak was cooked to perfection. The sauce they give you for the steak frites was delicious as well. I didn't taste what my friends got, but they both loved it. The tiramisu was on point, huge slice, I ate the whole thing and it left me wanting more. Our server Ky, was ABSOLUTELY THE BEST. She was knowledgeable about the menu, gave honest feedback about the dishes and was SUPER personalable. She was attentive and made regular, but not interruptive visits to our table. Bar Capri was my first choice for Taste in Tempe once I opened up the website. It had been on my list of places for quite a while so I'm glad I finally got to make it in with a group of my foodie friends! A few of us did the pre fixe menu while others did their own thing, by the end though I think they were jealous of our 3 course meal ;) I started with the Sicilian margarita and ordered the tuna crudo as my app. It was so tasty, I loved the sauce the pieces were marinated in. We practically licked my plate clean. For my entree, I chose the gnocchi bolognese because I had seen similar dishes that were pretty substantial in amount and flavor and this was no different. I ended up sharing some with a friend since her lobster & crab ravioli was eaten pretty quickly. At the end I ordered the ricotta cake, which was excellent. The pistachio cream layered with ricotta was eaten to the last crumb. I did also try some calamari and I really enjoyed the sauces it came with. I booked the Mothers Day brunch here for a party of 3. It was my sister, mom, and I, and we arrived right on time for our 1:15pm reservation. We stepped inside and checked in with one of the workers. Our table was not quite ready yet so we opted to wait outside. We waited about 15 minutes and then we were finally seated. Our server was friendly the entire service and we he checked up on us several times. We placed our orders right away as we knew the 2pm closing time was near. We ordered: Two steak and eggs One American breakfast We grabbed some appetizers from the buffet area and they had an assortment of light bites. The deviled eggs were the best and so were the mini croissants. Our entrees were all good. The steak and eggs were very filling as they also came with potatoes. We are obsessed with this Italian inspired cocktail bar in Tempe! We have been hearing about their espresso martinis for ages and finally got the chance to try them for ourselves-they were 100% worth the hype. We tried the espresso martinis with cherry foam on top and the Porn Star martini and both were absolutely exquisite! We also ordered Chicken Parmesan and the Gnocchi Bolognese. Both were great, but the Gnocchi Bolognese is one of the best items on their menu hands down. I love the intimacy and aesthetic of this restaurant and the staff was beyond kind. Bar Capri was new for me, its been open about a year now, owned by the same great folks next door at Freely. I've always had a great experience with Freely and was looking forward to their new Italian-style place. All in all, I had a great dinner at Bar Capri with friends. The food and service were excellent in a relaxed environment. It was busy while we were there and the staff was attentive throughout dinner. We had a party of 5 with a reservation, which is a good idea on the weekend given it's not a big place. Our server explained that some dishes are served for one person and the pasta dishes are large enough for sharing. So with that in mind we split a couple appetizers and our dishes. I really liked the fried calamari, and at many places that's a dish that I usually skip due to being too chewy or just not good. Here it's breaded and fried perfectly. It comes with 2 sauces for dipping and it's great for sharing. We also had the Nobel bread with butter trio. I read other reviews that the butter types lacked strong flavors and I can somewhat agree with that, but ultimately it's bread and butter, so it's still good. I had 2 very nice cocktails, the Milk Punch and Lost in Tokyo (I love cocktails made with egg whites). I enjoyed the flavor profiles on them. A couple friends had a bottle of the California Pinot Nior and I had a few tastes, that was an excellent bottle of wine, being my favorite style of red. I would order that if having wine when I come back. For food, we all shared from our plates, and I liked everything. The stand outs for me was the steak frites and ravioli. The steak was cooked perfectly (I asked for medium rare) and had 2 nice sauces - a chimichuri and aioli. The fries were so good, large potato pieces that were crispy on outside with soft texture inside. The cream sauce for the beef ravioli was yummy and the beef itself was a tasty ravioli filling. In 30 years, I haven't had better restaurant lasagna -- not since a small family-owned spot in downtown Chicago many years ago. This one brought me right back. What sets it apart is the béchamel, which is rarely given this kind of attention and truly becomes the centerpiece of the dish. The pasta had that perfect bite -- not the overly soft texture you find too often -- and every layer came together beautifully. Everything was fantastic from the cocktails to the service to the food to the dessert! We started off with a rehab in Malibu mocktail and he got a milk punch, then we got the goat cheese balls, and I got the Osso Buco and he got the chicken pesto pasta. Oh mio dio! I have often joked with friends and family that I must have been Italian in one of my past lives because the amount of noodles I can pack away is staggering. Cream sauce, marinara, pesto, a classic cacio e pepe... It doesn't matter. Put noodz in front of me and watch me blush coyingly before devouring it. It's been a while since I've been excited about a new place but this place had me all a-flutter. I had a Lost In Tokyo, Fritto Misto, Polpette, and the Lamb Flatbread. Here's the breakdown: Lost In Tokyo ($16 - lemon washed japanese gin, plum sake, yuzu, egg white, cream, citrus): Any time an egg white foam is included on a drink, expect to wait. Such a delightful drink. Cheers, Yelpers. Fritto Misto ($16 - fried calamari, shrimp, capers, olives, fried lemon, romesco sauce, calabrian aioli): The fried lemon had me looking like the heart-eyes emoji. And can we talk about the lemony marinara that they serve on the side? It's so perfect in flavor that no fresh lemon was in sight. I love how confident they are about how you will love this fritto misto. Absolutely one of the best fried calamari dishes I've had. Give me the salty little bites of caperes and olives. YUM. Polpette ($12 - pork & beef meatballs, marinara, straticella cheese, basil, parmesan): Okay, I got to be real, these balls are FIRM. Like, you could use them as stress balls. I know not everybody is a fan of poaching meatballs in sauce to get them more tender but I think that would help. Just my opinion! Lamb Flatbread ($15): I felt like I stole Lamb Chop from Shari Lewis (RIP, queen) and gave that cute lamb a big ol' lick. It's a very gamey lamb and while staggering, it's not off-putting if you like lamb. I will say, ONLY get it if you like lamb. As for the flatbread they used, wow. Love it. I know they serve Noble bread here and I'm curious if the flatbread is Noble too because wow! Love that flatbread! Salted Caramel Gelato ($8): Mama mia! What a way to cap off a meal. It's savory-sweet and oh so decadent. It's quite delicious. I want to come back ASAP and try the Cacio Pepe Flatbread and Carbonara Flatbread. This is a cozier spot so expect having to scream at your dining companions. I recommend getting a reservation to come here as well. read more

When a restaurant has Nonna's lasagna, you MUST order it. Well, I did and holy tastebud explosion (I've been thinking about this slab of lasagna for weeks). The bechamel sauce was on point and full of flavor (most places skip this tedious step)! We also ordered the bread and butter because why not?! The butter flavors were fun and delicious. Our son crashed our date night so he had pasta, butter, and cheese which sounds easy but the simplicity can make this dish go either way and Bar Capri nailed it. My husband ordered the pesto chicken and the serving size was well above average, full of flavor, and chicken cooked perfectly. The drinks were delicious as well. Had an AMAZING experience at Bar Capri! Booked a private event for my mom's surprise 70th birthday party. Paul, the owner, was very communicative and let us come in an hour early to decorate. Servers were very kind and bar service was great. Lots of options and mocktails as well! We ordered a bunch of different items for a buffet style lunch. Everything was delicious. I personally enjoyed the beef ravioli, meatballs, prosciutto and melon, and the tiramisu was so yummy. At one point we ran out of tiramisu and they were very quick to restock. Space was beautiful. Arrived on a Wednesday shortly after opening with no reservations. We were seated (with our kidlet) and we would need to vacate by 6:30. No problem. It was a "Specials" night. Two pastas anta bottle of wine for $35. We asked the server. He explained. Again, no problem. The menu is not really kid friendly but our kidlet made a meal out of the Noble bread/butters and fried calamari and shrimp. The pesto chicken pasta was okay, and the husband raved over the lasagne. Dessert? The ricotta cake didn't have much flavor and was meh. The tiramisu was fantastic. The kidlet bogarted most of it. Nice wine list. Kidlet was tired after the meal so I took him to the car. Husband paid the bill. Imagine my surprise when I noticed we were not afforded the special but were charged full price for everything. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Beautiful little restaurant. Pretty good food. While we were aware that our reservation was for outdoor seating, the experience was extremely uncomfortable due to the excessive heat and lack of misters. Service was disappointing. Our drinks were not entered promptly and did not arrive until after our appetizer. When we inquired, the delay was attributed to the bartender, which added to the overall frustration. The food was average. I ordered my steak medium, but it was served closer to medium rare and was quite tough and difficult to eat. At $24, it did not meet expectations in terms of quality or value. The food was really crappy though- not gonna lie. We each had a pasta dish and they were bland. Worse than that there was way too much dried herbs which also made it bitter. We had the Noble bread with truffle, smoked tomato, and lemon caper butters. This was fun but we all felt the butters could have had stronger flavors -- but we all like strong flavors! I had the salad with cheddar, apple, and walnuts which was fine. A friend and I split the steak skewers with an extra skewers. The meat was a bit dry so the chimichurri came in handy. Another friend had the lasagne which was really good! Asparagus side was also really nice. The patatas fritas were very different - a lot of potato skin, like each was a small thin flattened potato. There were mixed feelings on them at the table. I liked them but I couldn't imagine eating much of them. While not everything was perfect, it's new and they're still working things out. My wife wanted to treat me to a Sunday evening dinner out. I was to pick where I wanted and she would have no input. Cool! After doing a little internet searching I landed upon Bar Capri. Some place that I had never been before. I made reservations for 6pm and when we arrived our table for two was waiting for us. The ambience was very nice and there was background music but the volume was acceptable. Not like some of these breakfast brunch places where you can't have a conversation because the music is so annoyingly loud. We had a very gracious and attentive server and I believe Ben the manager recognized my name and put two and two together and discovered he had worked with my son back in 2016, so we had a brief but pleasant conversation. As for the food I found it to be very good. Every restaurant does some things better than others when it comes to items on the menu. One must just learn what you do prefer and lean into those dishes and not the others. My wife started out with a skewer of meatballs, cooked to perfection. We loved them. As the main course I ordered the flat ironed steak. Honestly, it was just ok. I ordered it medium rare and it wasn't what I quite expected. I generally would never order this steak as I'm more fond of ribeye, new york strip, or a lovely porter house. I took advise from some YouTubers talking about how this steak is often overlooked and is a great choice so I gave it a try. It was decent, a little chewy. My steak fries however were phenomenal! This won't deter me from not coming back because I want to try their lasagna. My wife ordered the shrimp on a skewer and a side of mashed potatoes. I loved the shrimp but not so much the mashed potatoes, they were suspect. Probably not homemade but yet acceptable to her; she loves any semblance of a potato! Lol. I will go back for sure. We had such a wonderful dinner at Bar Capri! We went on a weeknight during their $35 special, which includes a bottle of wine and a pasta dish which is such an amazing deal. We chose a crisp Gavi white wine paired with the gnocchi bolognese, and both the flavor and the portion size exceeded expectations. The bone marrow and fried calamari appetizers were also excellent (the calamari portion was huge), and dessert sealed the deal: ricotta cake plus two incredible dessert cocktails, the Mint Condition and Golden Hour, which might honestly be the best dessert drinks I've ever had. Service was just as impressive as the food. Our server Maddie was attentive without being overbearing, and though we hadn't mentioned our anniversary, only on the reservation, she surprised us at the end with two glasses of champagne, such a thoughtful touch. Between the warm service, great music, and lively yet cozy atmosphere, the whole evening felt special. My husband and I don't go out often, but Bar Capri is the kind of place that makes you want to become a regular. With the reasonable pricing, fantastic cocktails, and overall experience, we can easily see ourselves coming here at least a couple of times a month. Highly recommend. read more

have had Bar Capri on my list since they opened. I was really looking forward to finally going there. The decor is really quite lovely. I love the shades of green and the style of furnishings. The the pillows are a nice touch. There is a large table in the middle for bigger parties. There's also a small bar at the end of the room. The Christmas tree was lit up and it was gorgeous. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Our server came and took our drink order. My husband got his drink 5 minutes before I did. One of my pet peeves is not having everything come out at the same time for people in the same party. He got the French 75, and I got the Espresso Martini. It has a whipped Cherry liqueur topping, and was quite delicious. Hubby really liked his drink. We ordered a starter of calamari. We waited and waited. And waited. Our server did not come back to check on us or let us know what was going on with our order. A different server finally brought our entrees, and I asked about our calamari. She said "I'm not sure but let me see if it's ready." Of course I said to forget it because we already had our entrees. A few minutes after we got out entrees, our server came by to ask how everything was. I told him I was disappointed we had not gotten our calamari. Then he did one of the things I really hate--blamed someone else. He said "oh the kitchen must be slow, let me go check." He failed to recognize that in the half hour we waited for it, he never once checked with us. If he had, he would have seen that we never got our calamari. He never said "I'm sorry." I told him that we were already eating our entrees, so don't bother checking on it now. My flatiron steak with fries was good. It was cooked well and I really liked the chimichuri. However, my husband's chicken Parmesan was burnt underneath. We couldn't believe it was brought to the table in the first place, because you could immediately see if was burnt around the edges without seeing the bottom of the cutlet. That said, hubby said the pasta and sauce served with it was excellent, and the chicken was good if you picked off the burned breading. He ended bringing it home for the dog we are babysitting. I will say that the manager, who was told about our issues and those of the people at the table next to us, was quick to respond with an apology and a gift card to try Bar Capri again. She also took my husband's meal off the bill. She truly seemed grateful for the feedback and wanted to make things right. While I will say that our experience was not good, I don't think this is the norm. I've heard really good things about Bar Capri, and have to presume (or at least hope) that this night was a one off. Our server left me wait a bad taste (as someone who has worked in customer service, I know that a sincere apology goes a long way). I went here for dinner last night with my girlfriend to celebrate our 1.5 year anniversary and it was amazing. My first time ever here I went with my family for mother's day shortly after they opened and the service was so bad that my family still won't go. My girlfriend and I have been here a few times as well and usually don't have a great experience with the service from the waiters. The past few times the waiters we get are usually very callous and sarcastic but the food is so delicious we have to keep coming back. This time I was pleasantly surprised off the bat by our wonderful server, Cameryn. She was so polite and friendly and knew how to read us and match our humor. I also eavesdropped on other servers and they seemed to have the same excellent attitude going. Great to see that such a wonderful dining spot finally got servers to match that. Stopping at Bar Capri today was a great choice, it was actually the highlight of my stressful week. I'd been out buying books at Wijaya House & was starving, & lucky for me, Bar Capri is in the same complex. I wasn't in the mood for a sports bar (Freely is right next door. In fact, Bar Capri has a barn door that opens up to Freely), & the menu sounded delish. Aesthetically, this place is a foodie vibe through & through. Compact & cozy, it screams sexy modern Italian cafe, heavy on a Mediterranean vibe. I sat & ordered wine & decided on their beet salad with grilled shrimp added. Both came out quickly & were delightful. I read my book in between bites of yummy shrimp & beets & swallows of their NZ Sauvignon Blanc, & couldn't have been happier. The bartender & server shot the shit with me & made me feel welcome. Plus, my water was refilled like a trillion times, which is SO appreciated considering it's 111 out. Bar Capri is a quiet cozy place to stop, chill & enjoy. I highly recommend it for happy hour with foodie friends, a date night, or even treating yourself like I did today. The burrata was AMAZING! The grilled toast with olive oil was some of the best I've had. The arancini was not my personal favorite, although it was decent paired with the marinara sauce. The music is perfect and matches the ambiance. We had the fritto misto a good mix of calamari and shrimp, the breading was executed perfectly, not too much! Bar Capri is the cutest, quaint dine-in spot. Perfect for the lovely little Galentine's dinner my friend and I had there! You really do feel like you're being hosted in an Italian house. The food is excellent. I had the cauliflower steak with a sauce that's some kind of Mediterranean magic, any you can't get better than marinated olives for an appetizer. The bar's inventive cocktails deserve special recognition, especially the Spicy Sicilian Margarita. The tables are pretty small, but that seems in line with the European vibe, and the staff is ultra attentive in clearing away dishes to make sure you've got enough space. Speaking of the staff, I've gotta give a major shout out to Nadine, seriously the best server ever! There's one tiny caveat -- if you make a reservation, the time limit at your table is only an hour and a half. Went last week and had really good eggs Benedict on Noble bread. Sparkling wine was even good-nice brut rather than sweet, nasty Prosecco. Server was attentive. We were a party of four for brunch and it was lovely for a girls-day event. read more
