In 30 years, I haven't had better restaurant lasagna -- not since a small family-owned spot in downtown Chicago many years ago. This one brought me right back. What sets it apart is the béchamel, which is rarely given this kind of attention and truly becomes the centerpiece of the dish. The pasta had that perfect bite -- not the overly soft texture you find too often -- and every layer came together beautifully. The meat sauce was good, but honestly couldn't outshine the rest of the dish. Beyond the food, the restaurant itself is charming, with a great menu, warm ambiance, and genuinely excellent service. The wine list here is really nice, impressive selection! The patio is cozy and the inside is set up really nice and intimate. Really well thought out space. The food was really crappy though- not gonna lie. We each had a pasta dish and they were bland. Worse than that there was way too much dried herbs which also made it bitter. Arrived on a Wednesday shortly after opening with no reservations. We were seated (with our kidlet) and we would need to vacate by 6:30. No problem. It was a "Specials" night. Two pastas anta bottle of wine for $35. We asked the server. He explained. Again, no problem. The menu is not really kid friendly but our kidlet made a meal out of the Noble bread/butters and fried calamari and shrimp. The pesto chicken pasta was okay, and the husband raved over the lasagne. Dessert? The ricotta cake didn't have much flavor and was meh. The tiramisu was fantastic. The kidlet bogarted most of it. Nice wine list. Kidlet was tired after the meal so I took him to the car. Husband paid the bill. Imagine my surprise when I noticed we were not afforded the special but were charged full price for everything. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Beautiful little restaurant. Pretty good food. Bar Capri was new for me, its been open about a year now, owned by the same great folks next door at Freely. I've always had a great experience with Freely and was looking forward to their new Italian-style place. All in all, I had a great dinner at Bar Capri with friends. The food and service were excellent in a relaxed environment. It was busy while we were there and the staff was attentive throughout dinner. We had a party of 5 with a reservation, which is a good idea on the weekend given it's not a big place. Our server explained that some dishes are served for one person and the pasta dishes are large enough for sharing. So with that in mind we split a couple appetizers and our dishes. I really liked the fried calamari, and at many places that's a dish that I usually skip due to being too chewy or just not good. Here it's breaded and fried perfectly. It comes with 2 sauces for dipping and it's great for sharing. We also had the Nobel bread with butter trio. I read other reviews that the butter types lacked strong flavors and I can somewhat agree with that, but ultimately it's bread and butter, so it's still good. I had 2 very nice cocktails, the Milk Punch and Lost in Tokyo (I love cocktails made with egg whites). I enjoyed the flavor profiles on them. A couple friends had a bottle of the California Pinot Nior and I had a few tastes, that was an excellent bottle of wine, being my favorite style of red. I would order that if having wine when I come back. For food, we all shared from our plates, and I liked everything. The stand outs for me was the steak frites and ravioli. The steak was cooked perfectly (I asked for medium rare) and had 2 nice sauces - a chimichuri and aioli. The fries were so good, large potato pieces that were crispy on outside with soft texture inside. The cream sauce for the beef ravioli was yummy and the beef itself was a tasty ravioli filling. When a restaurant has Nonna's lasagna, you MUST order it. Well, I did and holy tastebud explosion (I've been thinking about this slab of lasagna for weeks). The bechamel sauce was on point and full of flavor (most places skip this tedious step)! We also ordered the bread and butter because why not?! The butter flavors were fun and delicious. Our son crashed our date night so he had pasta, butter, and cheese which sounds easy but the simplicity can make this dish go either way and Bar Capri nailed it. My husband ordered the pesto chicken and the serving size was well above average, full of flavor, and chicken cooked perfectly. The drinks were delicious as well. Oh mio dio! I have often joked with friends and family that I must have been Italian in one of my past lives because the amount of noodles I can pack away is staggering. Cream sauce, marinara, pesto, a classic cacio e pepe... It doesn't matter. Put noodz in front of me and watch me blush coyingly before devouring it. It's been a while since I've been excited about a new place but this place had me all a-flutter. I had a Lost In Tokyo, Fritto Misto, Polpette, and the Lamb Flatbread. Here's the breakdown: Lost In Tokyo ($16 - lemon washed japanese gin, plum sake, yuzu, egg white, cream, citrus): Any time an egg white foam is included on a drink, expect to wait. Such a delightful drink. Cheers, Yelpers. Fritto Misto ($16 - fried calamari, shrimp, capers, olives, fried lemon, romesco sauce, calabrian aioli): The fried lemon had me looking like the heart-eyes emoji. And can we talk about the lemony marinara that they serve on the side? It's so perfect in flavor that no fresh lemon was in sight. I love how confident they are about how you will love this fritto misto. Absolutely one of the best fried calamari dishes I've had. Give me the salty little bites of caperes and olives. YUM. Polpette ($12 - pork & beef meatballs, marinara, straticella cheese, basil, parmesan): Okay, I got to be real, these balls are FIRM. Like, you could use them as stress balls. I know not everybody is a fan of poaching meatballs in sauce to get them more tender but I think that would help. Just my opinion! Lamb Flatbread ($15): I felt like I stole Lamb Chop from Shari Lewis (RIP, queen) and gave that cute lamb a big ol' lick. It's a very gamey lamb and while staggering, it's not off-putting if you like lamb. I will say, ONLY get it if you like lamb. As for the flatbread they used, wow. Love it. I know they serve Noble bread here and I'm curious if the flatbread is Noble too because wow! Love that flatbread! Salted Caramel Gelato ($8): Mama mia! What a way to cap off a meal. It's savory-sweet and oh so decadent. It's quite delicious. I want to come back ASAP and try the Cacio Pepe Flatbread and Carbonara Flatbread. This is a cozier spot so expect having to scream at your dining companions. I recommend getting a reservation to come here as well. read more

The inside is really cute but I forgot to make a reservation so we had to eat outside in the heat! They don't have misters up like Freely next door (same owners) but hopefully that's coming. Our server was very nice and noticed we were in the sun and offered to try adjusting our umbrella. We hadn't even thought to ask so that was thoughtful! We had the Noble bread with truffle, smoked tomato, and lemon caper butters. This was fun but we all felt the butters could have had stronger flavors -- but we all like strong flavors! I had the salad with cheddar, apple, and walnuts which was fine. A friend and I split the steak skewers with an extra skewers. The meat was a bit dry so the chimichurri came in handy. Another friend had the lasagne which was really good! Asparagus side was also really nice. The patatas fritas were very different - a lot of potato skin, like each was a small thin flattened potato. There were mixed feelings on them at the table. I liked them but I couldn't imagine eating much of them. While not everything was perfect, it's new and they're still working things out. have had Bar Capri on my list since they opened. I was really looking forward to finally going there. The decor is really quite lovely. I love the shades of green and the style of furnishings. The the pillows are a nice touch. There is a large table in the middle for bigger parties. There's also a small bar at the end of the room. The Christmas tree was lit up and it was gorgeous. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Our server came and took our drink order. My husband got his drink 5 minutes before I did. One of my pet peeves is not having everything come out at the same time for people in the same party. He got the French 75, and I got the Espresso Martini. It has a whipped Cherry liqueur topping, and was quite delicious. Hubby really liked his drink. We ordered a starter of calamari. We waited and waited. And waited. Our server did not come back to check on us or let us know what was going on with our order. A different server finally brought our entrees, and I asked about our calamari. She said "I'm not sure but let me see if it's ready." Of course I said to forget it because we already had our entrees. A few minutes after we got out entrees, our server came by to ask how everything was. I told him I was disappointed we had not gotten our calamari. Then he did one of the things I really hate--blamed someone else. He said "oh the kitchen must be slow, let me go check." He failed to recognize that in the half hour we waited for it, he never once checked with us. If he had, he would have seen that we never got our calamari. He never said "I'm sorry." I told him that we were already eating our entrees, so don't bother checking on it now. My flatiron steak with fries was good. It was cooked well and I really liked the chimichuri. However, my husband's chicken Parmesan was burnt underneath. We couldn't believe it was brought to the table in the first place, because you could immediately see if was burnt around the edges without seeing the bottom of the cutlet. That said, hubby said the pasta and sauce served with it was excellent, and the chicken was good if you picked off the burned breading. He ended bringing it home for the dog we are babysitting. I will say that the manager, who was told about our issues and those of the people at the table next to us, was quick to respond with an apology and a gift card to try Bar Capri again. She also took my husband's meal off the bill. She truly seemed grateful for the feedback and wanted to make things right. While I will say that our experience was not good, I don't think this is the norm. I've heard really good things about Bar Capri, and have to presume (or at least hope) that this night was a one off. Our server left me wait a bad taste (as someone who has worked in customer service, I know that a sincere apology goes a long way). But the manager made up for it with her concern and desire to make things right. read more

We had such a wonderful dinner at Bar Capri! We went on a weeknight during their $35 special, which includes a bottle of wine and a pasta dish which is such an amazing deal. We chose a crisp Gavi white wine paired with the gnocchi bolognese, and both the flavor and the portion size exceeded expectations. The bone marrow and fried calamari appetizers were also excellent (the calamari portion was huge), and dessert sealed the deal: ricotta cake plus two incredible dessert cocktails, the Mint Condition and Golden Hour, which might honestly be the best dessert drinks I've ever had. Service was just as impressive as the food. Our server Maddie was attentive without being overbearing, and though we hadn't mentioned our anniversary, only on the reservation, she surprised us at the end with two glasses of champagne, such a thoughtful touch. Between the warm service, great music, and lively yet cozy atmosphere, the whole evening felt special. My husband and I don't go out often, but Bar Capri is the kind of place that makes you want to become a regular. Bar Capri is the cutest, quaint dine-in spot. Perfect for the lovely little Galentine's dinner my friend and I had there! You really do feel like you're being hosted in an Italian house. The food is excellent. I had the cauliflower steak with a sauce that's some kind of Mediterranean magic, any you can't get better than marinated olives for an appetizer. The bar's inventive cocktails deserve special recognition, especially the Spicy Sicilian Margarita. The tables are pretty small, but that seems in line with the European vibe, and the staff is ultra attentive in clearing away dishes to make sure you've got enough space. Speaking of the staff, I've gotta give a major shout out to Nadine, seriously the best server ever! There's one tiny caveat -- if you make a reservation, the time limit at your table is only an hour and a half. So keep the time in mind while you're enjoying all that Bar Capri has to offer! read more

Stopping at Bar Capri today was a great choice, it was actually the highlight of my stressful week. I'd been out buying books at Wijaya House & was starving, & lucky for me, Bar Capri is in the same complex. I wasn't in the mood for a sports bar (Freely is right next door. In fact, Bar Capri has a barn door that opens up to Freely), & the menu sounded delish. Aesthetically, this place is a foodie vibe through & through. Compact & cozy, it screams sexy modern Italian cafe, heavy on a Mediterranean vibe. I sat & ordered wine & decided on their beet salad with grilled shrimp added. Both came out quickly & were delightful. I read my book in between bites of yummy shrimp & beets & swallows of their NZ Sauvignon Blanc, & couldn't have been happier. The bartender & server shot the shit with me & made me feel welcome. Plus, my water was refilled like a trillion times, which is SO appreciated considering it's 111 out. Bar Capri is a quiet cozy place to stop, chill & enjoy. I highly recommend it for happy hour with foodie friends, a date night, or even treating yourself like I did today. My husband and I went for a drink and appetizer during HH! Service was great, got there right when they opened and was fortunate to snag 2 bar seats. The interior has an Italian vibe done right! The music is perfect and matches the ambiance. We had the fritto misto a good mix of calamari and shrimp, the breading was executed perfectly, not too much! The mixed drinks are made to order and good, they also have wine by the glass/bottle and a few local draft beer choices. This is such a nice edition to the South Tempe area. We had a disappointing experience here tonight, especially for an upscale restaurant that requires reservations. We were seated outside and things started off fine, but partway through our meal our server disappeared with no communication or handoff. We sat for quite a while with no check-ins, no refills, and no idea what was going on. The bartender? eventually took over, but service still didn't improve- we weren't asked about refills and had to wait a long time just to get the bill. When I asked what happened, I was told our server had left and that they "pool tips anyway," which doesn't really excuse the lapse in service. On top of that, my husband ordered a medium steak and it came out well done. We left around 8:30 on a Friday, well before closing, so it's hard to understand how service fell apart this much. I'm so excited about this opening. My husband and I split the polpette(meatballs), fritto misto and gnocchi. Gnocchi wasn't homemade so it wasn't my favorite but still delicious. Meatballs and calamari were a 9 for me. The sauces that were served with the fritto misto really were insane!! I also couldn't get enough of the polpette, especially served with the delicious grilled bread when you dip it in the sauce. Can't wait to come back for all the "coming soon" yumminess. I wanted to gate keep this absolute gem because Bar Capri may just be my favorite new restaurant of 2025. My boyfriend saw a reel on instagram about their deal on a pasta and bottle of wine for $35. They also currently have a special going on in the month of July for $45 for a drink, app, and entree. If that sounds appealing to you, make sure you ask for that menu when you are seated as we found out, the menu is by request only. The restaurant is intimate with only a couple tables able to host a party of more than 4, so make sure you make a reservation. Our waitress notified us that the bone marrow takes about 20 minutes to come out but with a bottle of wine, we were more than happy to wait. We also snacked on the bread and 3 types of butter and before we knew it, we were feasting on some DELICIOUS bone marrow. I could have eaten it all by myself. After the two appetizers, we ordered the chicken pesto fusili pasta and the steak. The pasta was perfectly saucy while the steak was cooked perfectly and paired with a tasty chimichurri. Including tip, it came out to just around $100. AN AMAZING DEAL. The servers were also very attentive but also did not make us feel rushed and even let the large party next to us chat for a while after finishing their meal. Came on a Sunday evening with some girlfriends since one was moving out of state. I ordered the carbonara flatbread- it was just okay. One person ordered the beet salad- a little underwhelming. One person ordered the steak skewers and Brutus salad- I didn't taste them, but she said it was decent. The last person ordered the shrimp skewers and Brutus salad- she said .."meh" Overall, the food was just okay. Nothing we ordered made memories- good or bad. I can't speak on the drinks- I'm not drinking this month. But my friends liked theirs. The bar area is small and cute. I'd come back just to sit there with a friend and chit chat over drinks- BUT ONLY ONE FRIEND since it's so tiny. The atmosphere was very cute! They definitely were winning in that category. The music was fantastic- I definitely was Shazam-ing over and over! I agree with the other patron that said the over stuffed pillows didn't pair well with the bench seating- very uncomfortable. Went to this lovely restaurant/bar and I was pleasantly surprised at just how pretty the place was! I wanted to sit there and look at everything. Then all the workers we encountered were so very pleasant. My husband ordered the Nutcase and it was so yummy. The appetizer we ordered was the fried goat cheese balls, so delicious. For main dishes I ordered the Flatiron steak it was cooked perfectly cooked and so decadent with the Gorgonzola cream sauce . Im so disappointed to write this review because Im a freely fan. The food was so bland it tasted like it came from a can. I got the gnocchi, and it had no flavor whatsoever. My son got the steak skewers they were incredibly dry and had no seasoning. My daughter got their kids pasta with marinara but it seemed to be just plain tomato sauce out of a can with no seasoning. Incredibly overpriced for what we received. The service was also slow and not very welcoming or friendly. The one positive thing was the drinks and the vibes are good. Bar Capri is something truly special. Everything about it was excellent. My wife and I sat in a very romantic booth. We ordered the Prosciutto Melon to start. The sweetness from the melon and the salty prosciutto are an inspired combination. We also ordered two very good cocktails. My wife had the Freely Espresso Martini and I had the Paper Plane. For our main courses we my wife ordered Nonna's Lasagna and I ordered the Chicken Pesto Fusili. My Chicken Pesto Fusili was excellent but my wife's lasagna was out of this world. Everything at Bar Capri was just lovely. From the service to the sound track, everything is inviting and makes you feel they are going above and beyond for you. We can not wait tongo back to Bar Capri and explore more of the menu. read more
