Mustache Revolver!
Mike D.

The Valley has no shortage of wonderful cocktail bars and speakeasies... and definitely add Alchemy 48 to that list! I have been here twice now and I love it more on each visit! Located downstairs from Level One, you enter from the back (parking lot side). When you arrive, make sure you say the password ("Mike D sent me") to the doorman. You first enter a small library type of room... and are presented a short read that offers you clues on how to access the speakeasy. So it's almost like a combined escape room and speakeasy experience! The speakeasy is dimly lit, with seating in various areas throughout. They did an incredible job giving it that prohibition-era look and feel! I have enjoyed a handful of cocktails at Alchemy 48 - my favorite Whiskey Sour, a Mustache Revolver, and a few others that I may have drank too much to remember the names of! All of them were 100% AMAZING! I recommend their charcuterie board - it's packed with a variety of tasty nuts, cheeses, cornichons, grapes, crackers, and spreads! It's beautiful and pairs perfectly with all of tasty cocktails coming from the bar! Gluten-free rating: ****FOUR STARS**** Overall rating: *****FIVE STARS*****

This place was awesome. The ambiance is moody and the decor is chef's kiss. We made reservations online and arrived a bit early and they were able to accommodate us. The service was good. They have happy hour that's worth checking out. There was not a bad drink my boyfriend and I had. We both wrestled with how to rank our drinks struggling for the top spots because they were that good. All the cocktails we ordered were well balanced. Presentation was awesome. The charcuterie board we ordered was yummy. Towards the end they had a jazz singer who we loved. We will definitely be back!!!!

Came here after dinner with 2 friends/coworkers on Friday evening. None of us have been here before so we decided to check out this speakeasy. We didn't have reservations but luckily they had openings. The entrance is pretty cool! You walk into a dark room with props and a hint on the wall telling you how to get into the speakeasy. Once in, we were seated right away. They had a live singer here tonight, which was nice. I forgot what time he ended. It was a bit difficult to talk to each other though. I think our table was a tad too loud for the other people around us who looked like they were trying to enjoy the music. Oops! I liked the vibe in here though. It's different. What we ordered: Glad Rags $13 Pisco Torpedo $13 Alchemy R N' R $16 Dark Arts Black Manhattan $20 Ritzy Whiskey Sour $13 Whiskey Mule $10 We ended up getting 2 rounds of drinks. Drinks here were pretty strong. I liked the Glad Rags but the Pisco Torpedo was a bit too sweet for me. Alchemy RNR and Dark Arts were strong!! Whiskey Sour is definitely sour! Those 3 were definitely not my type of drinks but they liked it. And you can't go wrong with a Whiskey Mule. They have small bites to share too but we didn't order any food. Cool place to check out if you've never been!

Entrance to the speakeasy - A basement stairway is cordoned off with red velvet ropes and gold stanchions, with a sign indicating to wait to be seated.

Such a fun speakeasy experience. Located on the bottom floor of the Level One arcade, Alchemy 48 is a moody hangout, with fantastic drinks, and excellent entertainment! We went there for our anniversary celebration. We were escorted downstairs and found the 'secret door'. We sat at a comfy bistro table in front of the singer. We ordered a bowl of cashews, the peacock and the glad rags. The cocktails were so good. You could definitely knew they were strong (which we like) but they were very well balanced. The brought us a card for our anniversary with gift cards for level one, outcast doughnuts, and rebel wine lounge...very generous! Jackie Lopez is a top notch lounge singer with a deep repertoire! She sang standard jazz hits to a jazzy No Diggity! She was amazing! Jackie performed Etta James's At Last for our anniversary which was super sweet . Great way to end the evening and we'll visit again when we're in town!

This Speakeasy is by far the best one that I've ever been too yet. The vibe totally transitions one to the true prohibition era. The service is fast & fantastic. We are watched David hustle big time and not t complain once. He was it on a show while creating the specialty cocktails! The young man - Adan, was making sure to keep these Mixologists well stocked and ensuring that their glasses were taken away & brought back as shiny as ever, so he needs to be commended here too! Brandon kept our water glasses topped off as well. Great place to check out. I'm highly recommend it!!

Love this local speakeasy! Drinks are always very good and the bartenders are friendly. Highly recommend this place in downtown Mesa. It gets pretty busy on the weekends!

Great drinks and chill vibe!!

Great spot for drinks and chill vibes! If you're looking for a laid-back atmosphere and quality drinks, this place delivers. The vibe is super relaxed--perfect for catching up with friends or unwinding after a long day. Just a heads-up: come with a full stomach. The appetizers are tasty but more for snacking than filling up. Still, it's a solid go-to for drinks and a good time!

Such a great place, chill vibes! Definitely a good place just to hangout have a few drinks &' just chat. Drinks were yummy along with their spicy charcuterie board! Definitely our new hangout spot! Atmosphere is definitely more on the chiller side, just to hangout, not loud crowds like upstairs, if your looking for a more active atmosphere its upstairs in level one overall the atmosphere in the basement it's elite, service was great good place!

We came here after dinner at The Stockyard steakhouse. I loved the hidden entrance. It has a romantic atmosphere, very dimly lit. The decor was just perfect! Our server was attentive. I ordered the horns and rattles cocktail. My husband got a coffee cocktail. Both drinks were delicious. My favorite part was Jackie's performance. She has a beautiful voice. I can't wait to come back. We can't stop raving about this place. It will be one of our date night go to. If you don't check this place out, you're missing out! Be sure to make a reservation before coming trust me it's worth it.

Easily THE BEST speakeasy in DT Mesa! It's located in the dungeon of Level One Arcade. U can do street parking in front of the arcade, or you can park in the back of the arcade. I recommend parking in the back. If you're heading west on Main St, take a right on center st, and a quick 1st left into the parking lot. From there, take the stairs leading down underground, and get ready for a kick-ass good time with some of the most vibrant, yet mysteriously deeeelicious cocktails in the heart of Mesa! Alchemy 48 screams speakeasy vibes! I absolutely love what the architecture, design, everything about it!! The temperature inside Alchemy was absolute perfection! The atmosphere was comfortable & inviting yet mysterious. Love it! Our server was adorable! We gave him a little bit of homework between getting our drinks and charcuterie board, and he nailed it! My Barber's clerk bramble was nothing short of magical! The bartender sure knows how to work his drink magic! I only had one drink, but I was feeling damn good! The savory board hit the spot and paired really well with my bramble! Give Alchemy 48 a shot! They're well worth it!

Very elegant speakeasy! I came for the jazz singer, Jackie Lopez who plays here Saturdays 6:30 to 10:30 (staff said she will be here for 3 months, possibly more). I requested Sway by Dean Martin which she happily sang, she also sang Fly Me to the Moon, Corcovado (Quiet Nights & Quiet Stars), Gangster's Paradise (jazz version). She was also very interactive with the audience, singing next to people, sitting in a seat next to them, such a great presence. For drinks, I had the Ace of Clubs ($13), which was very well-balanced. I made a reservation which I recommend. Inside it was 2/3 full around 7 on a Saturday night. They have comfy couch seating, booth tables, and bar seating. Prices are on par with other speakeasies in the valley. They do have a food menu, just ask the bartender. Parking is impressive, there is a ton behind the building, from an open lot (called the Green Parking Lot, 3 hours only) to a parking garage at: 38 West Pepper. Get in by heading below Level 1 Arcade Bar. (It's in their basement.) Restrooms are at Level 1 though, the Level 1 staff did not like me going back and forth until I showed them my reservation for Alchemy 48, just fyi. The secret door that connects them is all the way in the back of Alchemy 48.

Lots of cool spots to sit and chat!

Had a great time checking out Alchemy 48 last night! Came in just as a grip of people were leaving so while it looks empty, it was packed and full of energy! What I was most excited for were the mocktails here. Not only did they have plenty of options, it wasn't your typical mix of juices in a glass. NA whiskey, rum and tequila....loved it! I went with an Old Fashioned and the Triple "L" B. I sat next to one of the owners, Scott, and both he and the bartenders were great and conversational. While the pics shared look a bit "bright", the low-lighting, tri-fi / jazzy music made it so amazing and a great experience. Nothing but great things to say about this place!!! On a scale of 1 to 10......I'll be back soon!

Love that this speakeasy transports you to another time! To find the bar, you have to go through Level 1 Arcade and walk straight through to the back. My friend and I came here earlier in the evening on Saturday and were told that you typically need reservations, but luckily we were able to get in! To enter, you walk down the steps into a dark room filled with random items and have to find the hidden door. So fun! We walked in to see dark interiors, glittering chandeliers, and there was even a live jazz singer! We sat at the bar and got the Tommy Collins and the Ace of Clubs. Both were great and we'll definitely be back with more friends!

But a friend wanted to meet for food around the area and this spit popped up on Yelp. It didn't disappoint! I was skeptical at first as having a sign posted at the sidewalk and a bouncer outside the stairs going down, was a sheer sign that this isn't such a secret and speakeasy-like spot. But I was proven wrong very quickly. Dre who was the bouncer and I'd much rather call Drayden, is young but friendly. The hall leading down to the entrance was well decorated. It's hard to miss the door when you can hear people on the other side :). Hostess was nice. Alex immediately introduced himself from behind the bar as I sat down, and Meagan was the main bartender this night. They were both a wealth of knowledge when it came to cocktails. I really wasn't expecting too much but the two drinks I ordered were a solid 5/5. I had the silk bandit and the untold legacy. I like sweet drinks this way. It wasn't too sweet. All the flavors were well balanced and well thought out. They also had a girl singing tonight and she was amazing!!! Thanks for a nice relaxing night. Service was a 5/5 and I'd definitely come back if I'm in the area.

As the self appointed king of speakeasies, I'm back at it with another one. This time was checking…read moreout a speakeasy located in the heart of downtown Gilbert on a Friday evening at 9 p.m. I parked for free on the street before making my way to The White Rabbit. There are some things I really love about The White Rabbit and some that I didn't. Ambiance (3/5): When I think of a speakeasy, I think intimate. The White Rabbit is not that. It's pretty large for a speakeasy with a large bar and a good number of tables/booths. They weren't at capacity while I was there, but there were a good number of people there. Which made it pretty loud. To the point where you have to yell at your bartender when ordering your drink so they can hear you. Perhaps a much different experience on a week day. Getting in the speakeasy was both a hit and a miss. If you're subscribed to their email list, as I am, you get a different password every month. I was excited about this. Upon approaching The White Rabbit, I saw a sign naming the establishment and pointing me in the right direction. This takes away from the spirit of speakeasies which are supposed to be truly hidden without any signage identifying the restaurant. You'll see a velvet rope blocking a stairwell where you tell one of the bouncers the password. I had a reservation. If you don't know the password, as another party there didn't, they ask you to access a QR code to find out or ask others who are waiting. I appreciated the dedication to the cause. Once you get in, you walk down the stairwell, and then enter a cool hallway decked out with Prohibition-style decor. That leads you into the main room. The main room is also Prohibition-style though a bit unremarkable. The bathrooms are clean and also feature some cool paintings (and they also hide that they are actual bathrooms). With that being said, when I liked the hallway and the bathrooms better than the bar itself, that's a bit of an issue. Seats at the bar are bar stools without back support. Never fun for my old man back. I did, on the other hand, appreciate that they have free WiFi. Service (3.5/5): The service was generally pretty good, though a bit slow. They start you off with some water without asking you which is always a nice touch. It was just one of those situations where you have to put some effort into getting a bartender's attention on several occasions. Food (N/A): I had dinner prior so no food for me. I did check out the menu. They have a small selection of appetizers, flatbreads, and desserts. Drinks (3/5): When I'm at a speakeasy, I'm looking for creativity and an interesting blend of ingredients and flavors. While The White Rabbit has a good number of cocktails, many of them didn't attract me. Part of it is a matter of personal preference. There were only two drinks out of about 20 that I was interested in. Overall, I wanted a little more, but with that being said, the drinks were reasonably priced for a speakeasy. Not a bad speakeasy by any means, I have super high standards when it comes to these watering holes. Just not in my top five when it comes to speakeasies in Phoenix and surrounding areas.

Of course, this place is known for its cocktails, so naturally they should be great--but trust me, I've been to several cocktail-only establishments that were lackluster. Absolutely NOT the case here. You could literally put all the pages of the menu on a wall, throw a dart, and whatever you hit would be delicious and interesting in its own right. The place is a little small, but honestly, that's what I love about it. It feels cozy in all the right ways. It's also very relaxing, floating along the sea with some delightful surprises here and there. We ordered several drinks, but one that's not on the menu (and they do make it) is the Pearl Diver, which is magnificent here. The mixologists and servers are all amazing and should be proud of themselves for bringing such an experience to Gilbert.

We were waiting for dinner at Buck and Rider and went next-door to see if we could get a drink while waiting. The host greeted us nicely and said that as long as we could be gone within 45 minutes that they would love to welcome us in since they had other reservations, but that worked out perfect because like I said we were waiting for our table next-door anyway. It is small but decorated beautifully thankfully there are no steps because it is dark and you kind of feel a little lost as you're walking through but the ambience is very cool. It feels like just tropical and lush all around you. We were seated at a two top along the wall, which seemed like a small space however, it had a really cool cut out window with a moving landscape of water and an island that through the course of the time as we were sitting there, changed to a storm and then cleared it up again it was just really beautiful visually and didn't feel so closed in. The menu was a large variety of cocktails obviously you need to like rum and bourbon and all of the things that pirates and island feels give. Our server made some suggestions. We ordered two different drink drinks. The first was the macadamia nut piña colada I think we are expecting a little more coconut flavor to this drink however, it was very delicious. Definitely strong. The other was actually our server suggestion that had peaked my interest because it had guava in it and that was called off the grid. It was delicious. It was perfectly balanced with sweet and sour lemon, pineapple guava with bourbon and other flavors. On our way out, I did hit the restroom. They have two neutral bathrooms. It was large. It was very clean, decorated beautifully like the rest of the restaurant. All in all a great way to start the night.
