It was super easy to make reservations, we were warmly welcomed by the hostesses the moment we arrived, and the atmosphere was beyond immersive. And of course... the drinks were incredible! I kicked off our 90-minute experience with the Blackberry Yuzu Margarita, and it was the perfect balance of crisp, sweet, and tart. I wrapped things up with the Macadamia Nut Piña Colada which, fittingly for being "aboard" a pirate ship, was delightfully rum-forward without being overly sweet. In between cocktails, we shared a couple of snacks that were such a welcome addition -- something you sadly don't always find at local speakeasies! What can I say about this place that hasn't already been said time and time again? Everything from the service to the ambiance is top-notch. Of course, this place is known for its cocktails, so naturally they should be great--but trust me, I've been to several cocktail-only establishments that were lackluster. Absolutely NOT the case here. You could literally put all the pages of the menu on a wall, throw a dart, and whatever you hit would be delicious and interesting in its own right. The place is a little small, but honestly, that's what I love about it. It feels cozy in all the right ways. It's also very relaxing, floating along the sea with some delightful surprises here and there. We ordered several drinks, but one that's not on the menu (and they do make it) is the Pearl Diver, which is magnificent here. The bar is a pirate ship theme and as you walk in you are seated in the belly of the ship. The decor here is so awesome. Amazing attention to detail everywhere you look. They have ocean sounds playing and if you are lucky enough you'll catch the tiki man and thunderstorm show! They have a wide selection of fun themed drinks, all around the $20 range and some shots. Reservations are limited to 90 min, which is plenty of time and allows turn over of tables seeing's how the bar itself is pretty small. Definitely go checkout Undertow! Such a beautiful place to visit on our trip from LA! What a tiki wonderland filled with speakeasy surprises! In the Chinese speakeasy inspired bar we had wonderful drinks prepared by our bartender Kaitlin. I had the Tom Kah and boyfriend had the Emperors Tea. They were so delightful and smooth. The Tom kha was very zesty and lemony. I had fun enjoying the duck wall behind glass and saw for the first time the railway train car speakeasy attached to the outside bar near the entrance which I missed last time I visited. Last time I visited was a Saturday and it was so slammed wait time was over an hour so we didn't get to drink, this time was perfect, no wait on a Thursday night! Boyfriend and I stopped at the undertow tiki bar last and enjoyed the surreal view through the boat windows lining the walls by the tables and the wonderful service and conversation as I purchased two of the highball glasses from Flint. What a kind and exceptionally friendly person he is, and if I'd come sooner I would've loved to try a drink from him but next time! All staff was hospitable. The ambiance in Undertow is cool. It really does feel like you're on a ship. Drinks are good(and strong). I am NOT happy that they include a 4% 'employee benefit' charge to your tab. We've been trying to get into Undertow for a year now and I've never quite been able to get in until last night. We were waiting for dinner at Buck and Rider and went next-door to see if we could get a drink while waiting. The host greeted us nicely and said that as long as we could be gone within 45 minutes that they would love to welcome us in since they had other reservations, but that worked out perfect because like I said we were waiting for our table next-door anyway. It is small but decorated beautifully thankfully there are no steps because it is dark and you kind of feel a little lost as you're walking through but the ambience is very cool. It feels like just tropical and lush all around you. We were seated at a two top along the wall, which seemed like a small space however, it had a really cool cut out window with a moving landscape of water and an island that through the course of the time as we were sitting there, changed to a storm and then cleared it up again it was just really beautiful visually and didn't feel so closed in. The menu was a large variety of cocktails obviously you need to like rum and bourbon and all of the things that pirates and island feels give. Our server made some suggestions. We ordered two different drink drinks. The first was the macadamia nut piña colada I think we are expecting a little more coconut flavor to this drink however, it was very delicious. Definitely strong. The other was actually our server suggestion that had peaked my interest because it had guava in it and that was called off the grid. It was delicious. It was perfectly balanced with sweet and sour lemon, pineapple guava with bourbon and other flavors. On our way out, I did hit the restroom. They have two neutral bathrooms. It was large. The space is small, which I love and no rowdy crowds, just the kind of intimate spot where you can talk. The only things I'd tweak? The sound carries a bit in the space, maybe some sound dampening panels coulf help would make conversations easier. And I wouldn't mind a bit more pirate energy right when you walk in. Nothing too theatrical, just a simple "Welcome aboard maties!" Just a nod to the theme to set the mood before you even hit the bar. We have visited Undertow multiple times and although reservations are recommended, we have been lucky to walk in as a group some nights. Notably we had mentioned a birthday celebration for a reservation and received a signed card at the end of our visit. Ambiance was incredible. We were told that the designers of the bar also worked at Disney, hence the magical feel. The audio was reminiscent of being overseas and there would be occasional thunder storms that hit the bar. There were porthole tables for two, with beautiful waves splashing in the background. The booths were reserved for larger groups and we enjoyed how spacious the tables were. Service was always phenomenal. Since the menu keeps changing, we ask for recommendations and our servers kill it every time. The cocktails are always complex yet accurate to the flavors listed on the menu. Personally I found their pineapple and cream based drinks to be the richest in flavor. The alcohol content was strong and nothing ever tasted watered down. Some of the drinks we found to be memorable over the years include: *Royal Hawaiian *Starboard and Steady *Shipless Sailor *Rations & Grog *Those Baby Blues *Pumpkin Spice Pina Colada My favorite bar of all time in terms of atmosphere and taste. Walk-in's are welcome, but I would recommend making a reservation. It's pretty hit or miss if you'll be able to get in without one. The inside is epic! You feel like you're on a ship out at sea. The last time I was at UnderTow was at the original Phoenix location in 2017 and they had storms with sounds and lights, and cargo boxes throughout, though this location does not have that it still has the portholes, and actually has more seating to accommodate large parties. What I really liked about this location was the friendly service and that we were walk-ins on a Sunday afternoon. They were able to immediately seat us. This trip to UnderTow was my second visit. My first time was at the Arcadia location and I ended up giving 4 stars there, really only due to the fact that I didn't enjoy the 2- top seating near the port holes. This time I had a reservation for 5 people and I knew that would mean we would get a booth to fit everyone. The experience was 5 stars all the way! Each cocktail we ordered was delicious and served up in a fun and unique tiki presentations. Both locations have the same set up for the most part. Appeared to be about the same size as well? There are bar seats, 2 tops surrounding the bar area, and a couple of booths. Each location gives you the experience of being on a floating pirate ship, enjoying the finest and solid strength tiki drinks. The menus appeared to differ and that could be due to visiting at different time of year. Service was polite, prompt, and my only critique is that I felt a bit rushed in the reservation window with 5 people, whereas with 2 people the time limited is no problem. Either way, UnderTow is a unique Tiki experience with fantastic drinks and I would recommend it for sure. read more

After an amazing dinner at Buck & Rider this place caught or eyes. We decided to check it out and grab a drink. The people work in the front asked us if we had a reservation, which we did not. They told us they'd be able to get us in, in about 15 minutes, which was fine. We waited out front. Not one person left the place but in about 15 minutes we seated. The inside was half full. None of this was making sense but OK whatever. The place has a cool Hawaiian ambiance. We were really excited to try our drinks as how could they not be good at a place like this? Our serve was very nice and took our order. The problem arrived when we got our drinks. We both took a sip of our drinks and they were absolutely disgusting. Add this to the fact that our server went missing. We just talked to each other and waited for the server. And then we waited some more and then some more. After 20 minutes or so I threw a couple dollars on the table and we left our full drinks there. read more

An absolutely wonderful and unique experience I would highly recommend everyone to try. We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary last night. We were not expecting anything; but they decorated our booth and every one of the staff made us feel special. Time is limited to 90min reservations and you get great service while you are there. If you have friends or family coming from out of town, it would be a great place to visit. 4 stars instead of 5 because me and my friend are not regular drink people so we weren't sure what to order and staff that night was busy and did not have drinks to recommend. PARTIES BEWARE!!! Have been going here multiple times with my fiancée and always have an excellent time as a couple. Drinks are very good and the vibe is excellent. However, we attempted to come with another couple and made a reservation for four people. When we arrived they placed two of us at the bar and two of us at a two top. When we asked why they said it was the system that separated us all and they didn't catch it. Sadly, they were unwilling to work with us to change us to a four top. So if you're coming with more than two, call ahead and make sure they got everyone together because this is kind of ridiculous especially considering it was $60 ahead to time to even reserve a spot. read more

Okay where to start. The environment/experience was amazing! The rating is strictly for drinks and snacks. The drinks were horrible! we ordered the pina colada, Mai tai, and a few others just trying to get something we could drink! The crab Rangoon dip was subpar. Basically just cream cheese no crab, scallions, spice, etc. The wonton chips were the best part! Just know you're going for the immersive experience. Don't waste the money on reservations. Just show up when they open. That was also a waste of our money. You don't get it back towards the cost of you cocktails and snacks. To management, use traditional recipes. The nutmeg on everything just makes them bitter. Stop using premade in the back drinks! Use cream of coconut in your pina coladas, use pineapple juice in the Mai Tai. Whoever put together your drink combos needs to go back to school as a mixologist. Wish I could say this was worth it. It was so bad we were afraid to order the shrimp cocktail! read more
