Blue Heron has a really cool vibe. Great place to pop into for a drink or you can have the full menu from Crust which was a surprise! The servers were really friendly and we were able to be sat quickly even though we didn't have a reservation.
Beautiful little speakeasy behind a nondescript door that looks like a service entrance. We didn't eat, but my cocktails were amazing: - Espresso Martini - Last Mango in México My friend had three different cocktails and enjoyed hers as well. $13-17/drink Service was great and the bottle of water on the table was appreciated. They close a bit early for me (11pm on a Thursday) but I have to remember it's Gilbert so that's probably on the later side
About last night.. yesterday was my actual birthday and wanted to spend the night with friends. We caught this place prior to that night after dining at Crust next door. Once we arrived, we didn't know where the entrance was, but there was this blue heron cover over a single door so we went inside and turns out it was an exit. But once we got in, the bartender said we can sit anywhere so we sat in booth all the way in in a corner. Greeted by a man in a beard by the bar who said, "Finally ladies. Where have you been?" I went with my bestie and her bf. And her bf ended up chatting with the guy at the bar while my bestie and I sat down. Anyway, as we got seated, we were handed a menu (food and cocktails). We received water after we ordered our own drinks. My friend and I got the same thing. It had like lychee and lemon in it while her bf had this pornstar drink. The only name that I recall from the cocktails side of the menu lol. After deciding what to get from the main course, we were ready to eat. We waited and waited and waited some more but no one came back to check up on us. We were there about an hr, having a good time chatting of course, can't ruin my birthday but also we were very hungry. So my friend's bf got up the table, went to the bar and asked for the check. He was going to pay but I said it's on me. I left no tip with bad customer service as no one came back to us. I guess it pays to be at the bar and all the outside seating. Really wanted to try the food. Very disappointing. Sorry.
The Blue Heron is located in the back of Crust Italian, it can be hard to miss. You either can go to crust and they will walk you over, or go to the back, look for the awning. Anyways we enjoyed the times at Blue Heron Bar, some things to note. Each mixed drink we tried was amazing, however they are STRONG ( in a good way) so I usually stay with a bourbon based drink so I can sip away. Be mindful if you are driving or just get a ride over. Some of the food we tried -- Charcuterie-- if you like the board with the various items, you will like the plate they offer here, I really liked the food portion. I'm sure this will pair with some wine perfectly ( I don't know if you can bring your own bottle ) The pizza americano, if you get this get it with some extra honey -- it's delicious! Nice portion size and it went perfect with our drinks. We got the butter cake which is perfect to split. If you are doing the date night thing you can easily drink and eat for under $100 easy. One of the managers stopped by to check on us, and sent over some shots. Staff was pleasant as can be. First class and appreciated! Last tip, if you are sitting down at the booth, try to sit next to each other, this is a great place to people watch. Looking forward to going again soon! Thanks.

The lighting level is perfect--dark enough to be intimate but light enough to see your food. There is seating at the bar, of course, and a wall of banquettes. Look around the corner to see some great art on the wall and gorgeous lighting fixtures. There is a patio, too, but it was closed. Who wants the patio when it's 9 million degrees outside? We were greeted and seated immediately. Our server was there promptly and when we said we weren't ready to order, she made sure to come back quickly and not make us wait long. She really was a great server very cheerful and attentive. We ordered: *Painkiller *Last Mango in Mexico *Charcuterie *Fried Calamari *Meatballs Both cocktails were delish and beautifully presented. We also enjoyed all of our food. It's rare that I like everything in a charcuterie plate, but I liked everything on this one. The meatballs come three on a plate lined with ricotta and grilled bread. Sooo good! The calamari was topped with pickled peppers and Fra Diavolo. The Fra Diavolo want as spicy as I thought it would be, but it was good. This was a great place to come to drink and snack in place of a regular dinner. We will be back for a repeat soon!
I love the ambience in here. The fire feature is lovely. I like the speakeasy vibes and the subtle entrance. There was plenty of room for bigger groups and many little tables for a cozy date night. The cocktail I ordered was unavailable. This, to me, is like a pizza place running out of pepperoni. My second choice was good. I wanted to try a bespoke tequila-based drink, the bartender did not have any ideas other than a paloma, which seemed pretty basic to me. I am a big fan of Crust next door, I hope that this bar can level up a bit to match the quality over there. In the future I will probably just go to Crust and order drinks there.

The whole speakeasy vibe is amazing - the staff were so lovely and helpful with all our questions - the food is delicious (I love how the serve up pizza)- and the drinks are outstanding! Omg my husband and I had the best time here. Came for a date night Friday night and were seated immediately (we got lucky). It was very crowded with people enjoying drinks and talking about their week. We ordered the charcuterie board and he got the bone marrow. Both were great. I had two espresso martinis and he had a couple old fashions. Both excellent. At the end we met the alcohol rep or manager or whatever and he had my husband do a luge shot down his empty marrow bone. It was so fun.

There was bar seating too. The hostess gave us The Blue Heron menu which has drinks and some food items. They also serve food from Crust next door. You just have to ask for that menu. I had their pizza before, and really liked it, but they removed my favorite kind (I don't remember the name, but it was a spicy one). This time I tried the Chicken Alla Vodka. I appreciated that the waitress made sure to clarify that the two chicken cutlets are served on a bed of broccolini, not pasta because a lot of people had misunderstood that. Each cutlet was large and full of flavor. It was so good, but I could not finish all of it. The leftovers were good the next day too. For drinks, I had to get their Espresso Martini. It's consistently good and has a really pretty design on top instead of the usual three coffee beans. My second drink was from the Crafts section. I think it was called the Sweater Weather (tried to verify on their website but it's not listed on there). It was a bourbon-based drink. Definitely spirit-forward and is a sipper. The drink ended on a sweet note with the luxardo cherry at the bottom of the glass. My friend also really enjoyed her meal and drinks. I would highly recommend this speakeasy if you're looking for one in Gilbert / southeast valley.
I've been wanting to go here for a while now and I finally got the opportunity to go with a Yelp friend that lives in Gilbert. It was a very rainy night but my friend said let's go anyway so off we went! I entered through Crust and they didn't have a problem with it since it was wet outside but normally there's a door with a fish above it that is the actual entrance to The Blue Heron. The inside is dark and intentionally has low lighting to keep the vibes mysterious. I tried joining the online waitlist ahead of time but the hostess told me it gets turned off when they're booked for the night, thankfully she was able to get us a table anyway. I started with the Painkiller because tropical drinks are very much my jam, my friend had an espresso martini, then we ordered our pastas and talked for a while. Our server was so sweet and very attentive, she brought us water all the time. Our second round was the Last Mango in Mexico for me and Sweater Weather for my friend, both were very strong and delicious. The Mango was perfect for me and had the right amount of spice from the sliced jalapeño and tajin on the rim. I actually drank it way too fast and wanted more!

Great speakeasy in Gilbert! It has a cool and sexy vibe with the eclectic furniture and dim lights. There is a wide selection of signature cocktails that are unique and delicious; however, the Ostrich Pornstar was a little too citrusy for me. The Vesper Martini made you feel like James Bond - Casino Royale. It took me several minutes to find the entrance. You cannot see the door behind the blue awning and drape with the heron logo in the back parking lot. There is no sign that says "The Blue Heron". Cute place. We were the 1st ones there. I like getting the calm before the storm. It was a Wednesday evening. The drinks are theirs, but the food is from next doors. Crust Simply Italian restaurant they share space with. Smart idea!! When we 1st got there, we had very attentive staff. By the end, we were waiting for them to come by and ask if we wanted another drink or to get our check... we waited 20 min before we initiated contact. By then, we passed on 1 more drink each and just opted for the check. The place is dark and intimate, playing current music. We enjoyed their drinks.... great presentation and taste! We happened to be in the Gilbert area so we decided to check out The Blue Heron. As soon as we walked in I was impressed with the decor. Its low lit with nice seating and had all the "speak easy" vibes. The drinks were yummy and the Mediterranean salad was also good! For our main course we ordered the Chicken Francese but neither my husband and I really cared for it. The flavor was just blaw considering its made with lemon and white wine. The chicken wasn't seasoned well and the breading was soggy. Our server did let the manager know and he came over and apologized. We thanked him and let him know we really liked the drinks and salad. I was a regular at The Ostrich when I lived next to the Crust location in Chandler. This is Crust Simply Italian's second speakeasy concept located at the Verde at Cooley Station development in Gilbert. Happy Hour is the best time to visit when they offer discounted prices on food and drinks Tuesday to Friday from 5-6pm. The Blue Heron is located right next door to Crust and has a nice cool vibe to it. The lights are dimmed and the walls are adorned with photos of birds. The Blue Heron is known for their craft cocktails and the fun names that they have for them. I have had their Ostrich Pornstar, Midnight in Tokyo, Wet Your Beak and the always popular Espresso Martini. Many of the names for their drinks reference a bird. Appetizers are made East Coast-style and come directly from Crust next door. I highly recommend the meatballs. Make it a fun night and enjoy a Rustica-shaped pizza over at Crust Simply Italian and then head over to Blue Heron for some drinks. read more

Crust does it again! The Blue Heron is the second and newest speakeasy concept by Crust Simply Italian. This speakeasy has a sexy and moody atmosphere making it perfect for date nights and girls night outs. There's plenty of table seating, bar seating, and even patio seating, still keeping everyone "hidden." The craft cocktails are excellent. My go-to is the espresso martini. Thought it's not my favorite espresso martini in the Valley, it's still a solid one. What truly sets this bar apart is the delicious Italian food from Crust next door. We love having the option of ordering small bites or full meals. The mixologists are not only talented, but also friendly. The staff are usually on point, and can recognize if they fall short. We're fortunate to have this hidden gem nearby and we'll continue to visit! read more

Exquisite cocktails in a classy speakeasy environment. A few of the drinks I've had here are in my top 10 favorite drinks of all time. It's worth a visit. To make matters even better, you can order food straight from the fantastic Crust menu. Makes for an excellent time, whether you're just starting your night, or shutting it down, the Blue Heron has yet to disappoint. The best experiences I've had have been at the bar. You get to the watch the mixologists work their magic, and they've all been friendly and hospitable. My wife and I have spent hours trying new drinks and chatting it up with the folks behind the counter. For those familiar with the Ostrich in Downtown Chandler, this is the Gilbert sibling, which brings an equally cool vibe. Most times that I've come by, there's been plenty of room and hardly any wait. The drinks that stand out to me most recently are the Vesper Martini and the Clover Club. The martini taste like no other martini, and straight from the pages of James Bond. The Clover Club is an OG drink, gracing speakeasys since prohibition days. I legitimately feel like you can't go wrong with most drinks on the menu. Pick your poison and enjoy! read more

Service with Kat was attentive but not intrusive and her suggestions were spot on for a brilliant meal. The ambiance is energized yet intimate. Cute "speak easy" concept, interior decor was nice and we enjoyed the playlist . Cocktails, server & bartender were great. Food was ok. We thought the bolognese was lacking flavor and we had to add salt. Pizzetta americano was highly recommended but it had too much ricotta cheese for our taste. Bone marrow, fried calamari and meatballs were ok. Nothing to rave about. Food needs to be elevated to match the cocktails. read more

We came here three times in total. The first time was right after they opened. We were very excited because there were not a lot of speakeasies in Gilbert. We tried a couple of their whiskey cocktails and they were good. The ambiance was dark with dimmed lights. The decorations made this place feel classic and romantic. Although the place was pretty busy, we were lucky to find a table for two. This place reminds me of Ostrich in downtown Chandler, which is also a speakeasy, and it also happens to be next to Crust Simply pizza. I believe the bartenders told us that this place and the Ostrich are related. The second time that we came here was with a large group of friends. We picked this place because they allow you to order and bring food from Crust Simply next door. They didn't have large tables so instead they placed a couple of small round cocktail tables together for us. Since we didn't have a lot of table space and the plates for pizza and pasta were quite huge, it was very crowded. It was also a bit hard to hear and talk to each other since there were other customers and background music. The dimmed light made it a bit hard to eat as well. I would not recommend coming here with a huge group of people unless you are here just for drinks or small snacks. The third time that we went there was just my partner and myself, and we sat at the bar so we could learn from the bartender. We met one of our favorite bartenders this time. He was so knowledgeable about mixology and was willing to customize our drinks based on our tastes and likings. Sadly we forgot his name but he worked at both Ostrich and here at the time. read more

I came in one evening with a friend to get a drink! Although I do not drink alcohol, I opted in for a Mocktail. The service was great unfortunately my first Mocktail was overly sweet. The waiter was more than helpful and had the bartender make a new one. There is plenty of seating and the decor is very nice! I love the feel of the bar! read more

Very much enjoyed my first experience at Blue Heron. The happy hour was excellent. You have to try the smoked old fashioned. It was delicious. So was the food. They had lots of happy hour bites and snacks and even a couple of pizzas. The food is from Crust. It was great. Loved the ambiance and the big mural of the heron on the wall. I would also love to sit outside once the weather cools down a bit, but it was too hot yesterday. Would come back again when I'm in the area. read more
