This is the second time dinning at The Vig at Dana Park and tonight we sat out on the large patio. The patio has plenty of seats and has both misters and heating lamps making it possible to use year round We kicked things off with the pretzel served with queso and house mustard--perfect for sharing. The queso was rich without being too heavy, and the mustard added a nice contrast. For my meal, I had the Caesar salad topped with a bistro steak cooked a perfect medium rare. The romaine was crisp, the garlic-anchovy dressing bold, and the garlic croutons and parmesan tied everything together. The steak was tender, flavorful, and elevated the salad. At the table, we also ordered the cheesesteak with Angus beef, roasted peppers and onions, Havarti cheese, and garlic aioli served on a baguette, with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was hearty and satisfying, and the fries were really good The wagyu burger was another standout--topped bacon, Gruyère and smoky blue cheese, caramelized onions, tomato jam, and garlic aioli on a pub bun. The beef and bacon were fabulous and the fries cooked to perfection Jake, our server, was terrific--attentive, friendly, and helped make the whole experience even better. We finished with the butterscotch bread pudding topped with vanilla gelato and caramel sauce, which was the perfect ending--warm, comforting, and just the right amount of sweetness Overall, a great patio dining experience with flavorful dishes, excellent service, and plenty of variety. read more

I'm so glad this place has moved into my neighborhood!! We went tonight to celebrate my birthday and had the most wonderful experience. Most impressive was the bartending staff. Mason was on point with all aspects of service, he was attentive, welcoming, and really made us feel at home. I was also impressed with the new bartender whose name I didn't catch but it was her first night and I would have never known unless she told me. She was friendly personable and slinging drinks like she'd been there for a while. Great job to both of them! As for the food, it was phenomenal as expected but a special call out needs to be made for the butterscotch bread pudding. It was complementary for my birthday and I probably would have never tried it before but it turned out to be the best bread pudding I've had in ages. So tender and sweet delicious!! 5 stars. When my boyfriend was in town for President's Day weekend, we wanted to try somewhere new for lunch to discuss my weekend trip to Florida to meet my boyfriend's family. I had The Vig on my bookmarks, so we figured why not give it a go as they were open on President's Day. I've heard the patio is spacious, and provides a great experience for cocktails and eats for a relaxed atmosphere. To start, we ordered drinks and shrimp ceviche. To say we were shocked when it arrived in a complete green hue is an understatement. When it listed avocado, we didn't think the sauce was avocado based versus a more traditional ceviche. It was lacking any spice, and quite honestly, any flavor at that. The star of the dish were the tomatoes as they were flavorful and perfectly ripe. We were hopeful the food would improve once the entrees arrived. Here are the ratings as I asked them as we got to the parking lot to gauge if I was the only one disappointed: Boyfriend's Rating: 3/5 Dad's Rating: 3/5 Mom's Rating: 2/5 The beans were runny for the Shrimp Tacos side, and we thought maybe if the flavor is there you can overlook that... in the words of my dad: "OH Boy... that's a mouthful of cumin." I thought for sure they couldn't be that bad, then I tried it. I've tasted less cumin in Indian cuisine than these black beans. I think everything on the plate of the Shrimp Tacos was a miss. The guacamole lacked any flavor, the haberno salsa didn't pack any heat, and the shrimp were lackluster at best. As for the burgers, since the rest of us either ordered the lunch special or The Vig Burger. My dad noticed our burgers were switched as we ordered different temperatures. Understandable, so I wasn't too fussed. My boyfriend's was well done when ordered medium rare, but he said outside of that it was pretty good. I enjoyed mine, and I did like the fries. The patio was beautifully redone as I frequented The Harp often years ago, and our waitress was friendly enough. Though service was a little slow and she didn't get my soft drink choice for my lunch special item. I ordered the spicy margarita it was on point, served in a small glass tho.. . For my entree I got the burger, I'd say it was pretty average, and couldn't decide between the sweet pot fry or reg fry, server told me I could do half n half, great! We stopped in for a family dinner on a busy Saturday night and were impressed to be seated and greeted immediately. The service was efficient throughout the evening; our water stayed filled and appetizers arrived quickly. While the salsa and guacamole were a bit under-seasoned, the cauliflower appetizer was delicious (though the portion felt small for the price). We appreciated that the kitchen split our burger onto two plates for us. However, the cook was off--we requested medium-well, but the thick patties arrived medium with a lot of pink. My husband wanted to watch the game somewhere and I wanted a great brunch, so I suggested The Vig! I've been to two other locations and enjoyed them, so I was excited to see one open in Mesa. We arrived just after 12 pm on a Saturday and though there were many diners, the restaurant was't super busy. We were greeted and seated right away. My husband requested to be seated near the bar with a great view of their TVs. We also had a great view of their beautiful patio. The space is stylish yet laid back. We ordered the following: Truffle Parmesan fries $12 Grilled chicken wings $18 Chilaquiles $18 I had the chilaquiles. Theirs comes with scrambled eggs, corn tortillas, white cheddar, braised pork, jalapeño crema, lettuce, and pico de gallo. However, I asked them to place the pork on the side. I'm not used to having a lot of lettuce in my chilaquiles, but it still was good. I've had better, though. I loved the truffle parmesan fries, who doesn't? There were 4 tacos served with a side of habanero salsa which was just the right amount of heat and I loved the pickled onions on the tacos. It also came with a side of well seasoned beans. Recently visited for a lunch with friends, and luckily came in for Happy Hour! We both had little ones, and I was a little concerned when we were placed in a booth, but it worked out great for us. We had a great server, and let us stay in her section while we were there for hours catching up! Their happy Hour menu was great: I highly recommend their nachos and sliders! We met some friends here for lunch that live in Queen Creek and it was the halfway point. We've been to the big in Arcadia and thought this place looked nice. We seated in the room behind the bar and there was also a party of 12 people in there as well, it was incredibly loud! We probably should have Requested to be moved since we were catching up with friends. It was very difficult to hear. I ordered the puzzle and my husband ordered the Asian chicken salad. He wasn't thrilled with the chicken salad as the chicken had the consistency of deli meat. My Pozole was OK, but it was severely lacking in protein and had very limited hominy as well. Maybe I've just gotten spoiled by what I get at Gallo Blanco or what I make at home It did have a decent level of heat though, and it was served hot. I had a glass of wine, a Pinot Grigio for $12 and husband had a beer, total bill was about $50 so it's a pricey lunch They do have a huge beautiful bar though, and this would probably be a great place for a happy hour with friends. We met my son and DIL for brunch to celebrate his bday. Seated outside at a circular booth which was awkward for a party of 4. Asian chicken salad was full of limp greens and overdressed. Spicy chicken sandwich came with white bbq sauce on sandwich despite assurances from server that it was always served on the side. Turned the bottom bun to mush. Honey spilled all over plate making eating a sloppy mess. Roughly half the chicken inedible due to grisly pieces. Chicken breast wasn't trimmed or tenderized. Side salad in little ramekin was arugula a a couple cherry tomato halves. Should be sold as "arugula salad, not a side salad. At least dessert was brought for son's bday, which was bread pudding. Very good. Guitarist outside was great--good music and not too loud. I wish their food was as good as the big in Arcadia. UPDATE: GM responded very promptly and appropriately to my review. I have been to the Vig one other time but a different location and it was good! I'm glad they opened one closer to me. Went here with my boyfriend for date night on a Friday. My first impression was that the space is beautiful, I love the design of it. Our waiter was friendly as well. We shared some wings which were pretty good, and I got a salad, I think it was an Autumn salad, but it was also good! I will definitely be back to try more. read more

This place was busy for a Friday at 5:30pm. We were told they had a 40 min wait. We opted for a spot at the bar and squeezed our way in. The bartender, Monica, was friendly and gave great recommendations. She was busy and it looked understaffed, but she never looked stressed and kept her cool as she juggled a lot of orders. The Happy Hour menu is what drew us in, and sold me for sure. They have lots of options and great cocktail choices for a good price. I'd go back for the Happy Hour alone. This was our second visit here. Our first visit was based on several great recommendations from Go Gilbert. The first time, we had reservations, but I didn't leave a review because I wanted to come back for a second experience. This time, we didn't have reservations but were seated fairly quickly. We sat in the outdoor dining area, and it was lovely. The ambiance was perfect for both family dining and a casual date night. My husband order a sandwich and a salad, it was delish! I ordered the fish and chips -- the fish was delicious, though the "chips" were mostly small, broken pieces. I'm not sure if that was intentional, but it felt like we might have gotten the last few fries from the batch. Nevertheless, I really thought the fish was delicious! My friend chose to come here for her birthday lunch this week. I'd read a bunch of reviews the night before and grew nervous because many were less than stellar. I'm happy to report that we had a great experience here. Elena set the tone by welcoming us warmly and there was a birthday card on the table for my friend. I love that they offer a lunch specials menu M-F with several choices for $15. It includes the entrees plus a soft drink which is a great deal. We both chose the burger. Side options are fries, sweet potato fries or a salad. My burger was really delicious and cooked to order with a generous portion of fries. Elena also brought out a complimentary birthday dessert (Butterscotch Bread Pudding) for my friend. The restaurant itself is very attractive and well-appointed with a spacious patio out front. First time here after several recommendations from my wife who's been here on a girls night. Warmly greeted and seated quickly. Cool, spacious interior, big comfy booth. Server went over some specials and took our drink order. Opted for the Old Fashioned and wife ordered the Strawberry Fields which consists of rum, strawberry puree, banana liquor, orgeat, and lemon juice. Old Fashioned was slightly too sweet for my tastes but I'm picky, still delicious and worth getting if you lean towards Old Fashioned's, sampled wifeys drink and it was super sweet but pretty much what you'd expect from the name, very tasty. I ordered the Wagyu burger, which was a 7oz wagyu party, bacon, Gruyère, blue cheese, caramelized onions, tomato jam, and garlic aioli. Wife went with the Ribeye Cheesteak which was exactly what the name implies. Burger was perfectly medium as I ordered and all components worked well together, juicy beef patty, salty bacon, umami cheese, smoky/funky blue cheese, a truly awesome burger with what appeared to be hand cut fries. The cheese steak was also amazing with actual shaved ribeye, cheese, peppers and onions on a crusty baguette. I was very impressed by the service the quality and the portions. First time checking out Dana Park and I was super impressed with all the food spots and shops in the plaza! I've been to The Vig before, but never to this location. The vibe here is great...warm and cozy inside with an open patio and plenty of bar seating. My friend and I both ordered the same thing: a Strawberry Fields cocktail and the steak frites. The cocktail was yummy--sweet and refreshing. The fries were honestly the star of the meal. The steak itself had good flavor, but it was a little tough to cut with just a butter knife and had more fat than I'd like. Overall, I'd definitely come back to try another entrée, but I'd 100% order the fries and cocktail again. So good! read more

First off, The Vig is gorgeous. It gives a very high end restaurant vibe, and the atmosphere is very calm and relaxing. Even that patio seemed beautiful with misters and fans on above. The service was fast and very friendly. Our waitress, KD, was perfect in every way, please go see her. They were running a deal for $6 espresso martinis and margaritas, so obviously I'm grabbing a martini pick-me-up. It was very strong, but delicious. I ordered the steak and potatoes, and it came out perfect with such a tasty chimichurri over the top. The end pieces were a little charred, but nothing to the point of it being an issue. We ordered their limited time tres leches French toast sticks as well and they were very decadent but delicious, as long as you're okay with something that sweet. Overall, I'd highly recommend you check this place out. The prices are really not that bad ~$15-18 for most options, my steak was the highest at $26. Idk how their lunch/dinner is (yet) but the brunch is such a great find. read more

The first review I was aware the place had just opened so I was nice. We gave The Vig a second chance after two months, but it was very disappointing. Service was slow, drinks weren't good, and food was bland -- my "wagyu" burger was small with cold, unsalted fries, and my wife's salad had no flavor. Our server was MIA most of the night and even brought us a carafe of warm water. Not room temperature, but actually warm. Between poor service, bland overpriced food, and zero attention to detail, we're done with this location. Other Vig spots have been great, but this one needs major work. read more

We came to The Vig for the dinner part of a playdate and arrived around 4 PM on a Friday during Happy Hour. It wasn't very busy, which made it a nice, relaxed atmosphere. The kids' menu had good options like mac and cheese, sliders with fries, and chicken fingers, which is always helpful. A little more than I hoped to spend on a kids meal though. I ordered the nachos without meat (adding meat made them a little pricey for just an appetizer). My 4-year-old tried the sliders--pretty standard, but ate a few bites. My friend enjoyed her salmon salad, and her little one loved the mac and cheese and finished the whole plate. Overall, it was a nice spot for a casual dinner, though a bit on the pricier side for what you get. While the atmosphere isn't the most kid-focused, it worked well enough for our playdate. We had an awesome experience at The Vig Dana Park! First of all, the restaurant is absolutely beautiful, modern and cozy. They did an excellent job with the patio too. I had the Genuine burger with veggie patty and fries. Delicious! I would love to see more vegan and vegetarian options on the menu however. My husband had the chilaquiles with no pork, sub black beans. He loved every bite! The bottomless brunch mimosas were great too!. Our server was Blake and he was super friendly and attentive. I was pretty excited to check this ne location out. First, this location is a home run as far as the design is concerned. Awesome patio! Server was great also. Now, the reason for the average review. I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich. Undersized, under seasoned and a little tough. The fries were underwhelming also, not crisp enough. Both the chicken and fries could have been served a little hotter too. My wife got the burger, and she said it was average at best. Not sure if they are still getting the kitchen up to speed or not. I had never been to The Vig but heard good things from friends who had tried the other locations. Was excited to see there was a location close to home. I am not sure if I ordered the wrong thing or maybe just got them on a bad day but service was poor and food was even worse. I ordered a Caesar salad that was practically inedible it had huge pieces of the lettuce core, it tasted like it was sitting in the fridge for hours. The lettuce was wilted and the dressing was off tasting my one saving grace was I added on grilled chicken so I was able to eat that. The truffle fries were decent but nothing to write home about. Love the patio! We have been wanting to try the new vig in the East Valley. Really good service great cocktails I have the blueberry haze and the lavender haze. There's also a good hibiscus cocktail which I've had in the past. on Valentine's Day, I was surprised they weren't having to deal with a weight I think because they're so new people don't know who they're there yet. I had the salmon which was wonderful. It was served with brussels sprouts and sweet potato crisps. There was also a potato fluff of salt underneath the salmon. Very good Had a little bit of pomegranate and chili glaze. My husband had the steak and frites which he liked. The fries have some type of truffle seasoning on top which made it a great treat on the pallet. Only disappointment was they don't have coffee in the evenings to go with your Dessert. read more

This was our second attempt at dining at the vig, the first time they were on over an hour wait. There were just two of us so we sat at the bar. I love the atmosphere - it's open air and has a lovely patio! We were there for hh and got a couple beers to start. We had the calamari abd shrimp and it is definitely one of the best we've had in AZ! it had a dusting of spice and yummy spicy aoli - also fried shishito peppers! We also had a pretzel - it was oddly dry, not regular chewy pretzel texture and the spicy mustard was so thick it wasn't spreadable. We'll definitely return to try some salads and entrees! Had a bday lunch here with our best friends on Monday. Sofia, our server was a doll! The ambiance is super nice too! The manager came by to check up on us. The food was good but not great. I had The Vig burger, it was cooked to my liking which I loved, but the bun was a little dry. My hubby had the Fried Fish, which was ok, but the batter was not crunchy it was soggy. My friend got the Asian chicken salad which was huge & looked beautiful and the bday boy got a grilled chicken sandwich that he loved. Sofía brought him a birthday treat after our meal, the bread pudding with vanilla ice cream w/4 spoons so we can all taste it, it was yummy! the young man who opened the door at 11am could be a better greeter if he smiled, he looked like we were bothering him but he did cheer up a LITTLE big when we were leaving & asked him to take a group pic of us. Tried the new Vig in Mesa and unfortunately it was a huge letdown. The food was very basic and nothing stood out. The pasta dish was undercooked, salads were bland, and the tacos were just...mid. Drinks were even worse, barely any alcohol, and the espresso martini (which was apparently on tap) was the worst I've ever had. On top of that, we didn't get appetizer plates or silverware for the apps, and our server never checked if we wanted another round of drinks. For a brand-new spot, I expected a lot more effort and quality. read more

Our party had the oriental chicken salad, Turkey club sandwich, sweet potato fries, and Caesar salad with added salmon. Everything very good but the salmon was room temperature, which I didn't expect, and the salad slightly wilted, also a surprise. I did appreciate the fried parmesan cheese garnish. I've been back to The Vig Dana Park a few times since they opened, and while the location and menu have great potential, the service continues to be pretty mediocre. On a prior lunch visit I really enjoyed the Asian Chicken Salad--since it's something I wouldn't usually make at home, I decided to order it again. Unfortunately, this time the experience was very different. The chicken was mostly hidden at the bottom of the plate in clumps (at least there was some--always a plus in this economy!), but the real issue was the dressing. The salad was completely drenched, which made it tough to enjoy. I get that balance is hard with a dish like this, but this time they really missed the mark. It's not something I'd order again. I truly hope management takes guest feedback to heart, because this spot has so much going for it with its location and menu variety. With a few improvements to consistency and service, it could be a real neighborhood gem. read more
