First impressions matter, and The Mission in Gilbert started us off right. We called while stuck in traffic and Julia answered. She was kind, calm, and genuinely understanding. She gave us about a 15 minute grace period on our reservation and still made sure we were seated at a great table when we arrived. That kind of hospitality sets the tone. My husband and I have been to the Scottsdale location, so we were excited to see this concept in Gilbert. It is a smaller space, cute. Joshua was our server and he was excellent. Friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. His recommendations were spot on and he made the whole experience feel enjoyable. Definitely one of those servers you hope to get again. We started with the tableside Mission guacamole. Jace prepared it and followed our request for extra spice perfectly. He was engaging, asked about our night, and added a fun, personal touch to the table. When we found out he is only 16, so sweet to see young hardworking people. We had seen some mixed reviews before coming, but as a former restaurant owner, I think it is important to give new locations time to find their rhythm. Our experience was smooth, well-paced, and genuinely enjoyable. Joshua recommended the Arroz Chaufa with Peruvian duck fried rice, and it absolutely delivered. Great depth of flavor, balanced, and a generous portion so we took some home. We also ordered the Duck Carnitas Empanada with orange habanero glaze and queso Oaxaca. It was rich and flavorful, but we were already starting to get full since we like to order a variety and share. Like I said, we took some home. Lol. For drinks, I had the Mission Margarita and my husband had the Primarita. Both were well balanced. The agave and tequila selection here is worth noting. We tried the Arette Gran Clase from the extra añejo list, and it was smooth, clean, and perfect for sipping. For our main, we shared the 18 oz bone-in ribeye. Presentation was beautiful. It comes with handmade corn tortillas, chimichurri, sherry glaze, and roasted garlic crema. The chimichurri stood out the most for me, fresh and bright, and everything paired really well without competing. We still ended up ordering dessert and took it home for the kids. The espresso churros with cinnamon, brown sugar, and Ibarra chocolate milkshake were sweet and satisfying. The milkshake is thick, rich, and definitely something to share. The churros are sweet, if you are into the sweet flavors. Overall, this place is fun and energetic. It does get loud, but that is part of the vibe, and we liked it. If you are expecting quiet, this is not that kind of spot. If you want a lively atmosphere, solid food, and great service, it is absolutely worth trying. We will definitely be back.

My husband and I decided to finally try out this place since they opened a location in Gilbert! We had a reservation so we only had to wait a few minutes before being seated. I will say the interior of the restaurant is beautiful and it's definitely a vibe. The music is played a little louder here in my opinion and since this place is quite small, the tables are pretty close together. The skirt steak tacos were a hit and were so good!! Highly recommend that dish. We also got some chips and salsa (comes with the table) and that salsa was super yummy and had a great flavor. I will say that this place is definitely priced on the higher side and we didn't leave completely full. But it was a good spot to try out! Service was good as well.

First time in this relatively new spot off Ray Rd. Worthy addition to the neighborhood. VERY crowded for a Thursday night ... a good sign. Don't go without a reservation at this point!! I'm impressed by how well the restaurant seems to be running so early in its life. Well organized front desk, very accommodating young ladies who found a great table for me and my service dog. And then managed the table nearest us to make sure my service companion was not bothered. Menu has some interesting items on it. All on one page, refreshingly simple, but complete. We tried the Mission Guacamole and the Duck Empanadas. The former was great, made tableside by an engaging young man. Would recommend to go "hot" as we did medium and it could have used the extra heat, even though it was REALLY GOOD. We also tried the Duck Empanadas. I found them just "ok", rather bland and 2 of the three on the plate were over fried. Would not recommend. Craft cocktails a strength. We tried the Mission Sour and the Saturday Morning Cartoons. Both were excellent. For entrees, we went with the Linz Reserve Filet and the Tecate Skirtsteak. Very reasonable portion sizes, not too much food. Cook on the steaks was perfectly what we requested. Server was attentive, but not bothersome. Staff kept our water glasses filled. Took a bit of time to get our initial cocktails. I had view of bartenders and they seemed stressed and undermanned. For dessert, we tried the pumpkin bread pudding. Also, pretty nice. All in $250 pre-tax for 2, so to get the full Monty of the experience it's gonna cost you. Vibe here is lively, and it really has a high-end mission feel to it. Colorful ties, lower lighting. In section of restaurant I was in there were several larger parties of 6+ patrons. Everybody having a great time. It's a bit noisy, so don't expect a quiet, fine dining experience ... but I don't think this is what they are going for Recommend you give The Mission a try

I've been really enjoying frequenting The Mission in Gilbert. Staff are personable and friendly. They aim for attention to detail and it shows in the way food and service is displayed. The table guacamole is delicious. I truly love this shared table dish. I also always get the steak skirt tacos. $25 for three- it's definitely on the expensive side but the flavor is there! It's something I'll keep ordering. I've also tried another pork appetizer dish and it was quite dry. I enjoyed their corn dish and their table salsa and chips. I'll keep coming back! Highly recommend

New Date Night destination unlocked! Great place with beautiful ambience. Beautiful chandeliers and decor through the restaurant. Has a charming Latin artsy feel. Great customer service from a knowledgeable staff and curated menu by a passionate chef. The food was GREAT! Everything was full of flavor and was presented well. The kitchen has a passion for plating and presentation as everything was aesthetically pleasing.

This place is fun! I really liked the prickly pear margs but I do not recommend the add on topper. It's Smokey and doesn't go with the pear well. I had the Mahi mahi tacos. The tortillas were fantastic but the fish was breaded and I was disappointed. The guacamole is fantastic! The skirt steak tacos were good. My husband ordered the Cubano torta which was one of the best things I have ever tasted. Highly recommend!!! We finished with the chocolate dessert and it was amazing! The place is pretty pricy. May be best for a special occasion. They really need to do something with the bathrooms. The floor is so slick and the women's bathroom's first stall wasn't flushing, water(I hope) on the floor. I almost slipped and fell. Be careful.

We enjoyed our dinner at the new Mission in Gilbert. The table side guacamole is a must, as they made it to your preferences! The elote dip was so good and paired really well with the guacamole and salsa. We shared the flank steak tacos which were very flavorful! The margaritas had great flavor but we pretty weak in terms of alcohol. The staff however was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is set up beautifully and has a really nice date night vibe!

I would do 3.5 if that was possible. The ambience was great, it's a very nice place. There were so many employees working it was crazy. We had great service, started with the pork belly lettuce wraps or whatever they're called and they were delicious! They don't have draft beer which is weird, and they also don't have draft soda also weird. Our entree was the pork tacos for two, supposedly marinated and pineapple and habanero? It was like a pork loin piece with a ton of barbecue sauce. I'm not a big fan of barbecue sauce, and the pork wasn't really shreddable? Maybe they should have cooked it for a little longer I don't know. We asked for chips and salsa because we saw other people with chips and salsa and it was $6 no mention of a cost. The salsa wasn't great but the chips were. We might come back and try something else... Maybe.

We finally checked out The Mission, a brand new spot we've been waiting months to open, and it did not disappoint. The space is absolutely beautiful, super aesthetic, and instantly gives elevated neighborhood hotspot vibes. We started with the tableside guacamole, which was such a fun experience. You choose the texture, spice level, and mix-ins, and it's made fresh right in front of you. We also ordered the crispy pork with a cola lime glaze ( basically pork belly served in a lettuce wrap) which was hands down the standout and my favorite bite of the meal. The roasted pork shoulder tacos and Tecate skirt steak tacos were also flavorful and done really well. For drinks, we had the Mission Sour and Lazy Maize, both mezcal based. The Mission Sour was the winner, so smooth and easy to drink. We were too full for dessert, but we're already planning a return just for drinks and that pork belly. Service was excellent. Jenna was incredibly helpful and walked us through the entire menu, and Camia was so sweet during the tableside guacamole experience. Overall, great food, great service, and great vibes. We'll definitely be back.

So excited to have The Mission in Gilbert! By sheer luck, we were able to snag a 7pm reservation on the Friday night of their soft opening. Last minute date night, hooray! It was BUSY. The place was packed and the vibes were high. The restaurant is beautiful; I had a hard time trying to picture how it used to look before (it used to be Belly). They really knocked it out of the park with the design. The service was great. When attending a soft opening, I always try to come with a little grace and patience. Our waitress was a seasoned pro -- very attentive, kind, engaging, and well-versed on the menu. The food was a bit slow to come out, but that was completely understandable given the soft opening. Overall, it was a very positive experience. Cocktails and food were both incredible. The margaritas tasted super fresh, and the chips and salsa were SO delicious. For our meal, we ordered the tableside guacamole (which you can customize to your liking), the Arroz Chaufa (Peruvian Duck Fried Rice), and the Roasted Pork Shoulder Tacos. The rice was our favorite dish -- salty, savory, and bursting with flavor. The tacos were also a 10/10; the pork was perfectly tender and packed with flavor. Everything was outstanding, we can't wait to come back and try more!

If you come for the cocktails and nothing else, it will be worth your time. If you're a mezcal lover, go for the The Mission Sour, the mezcal comes through beautifully while still getting the classic sour taste. Also, the La Familia is delicious and unique, don't skip on it either! We got the Duck Confit Empanadas, as recommended by our wonderful waiter Shawn. While the sauce was something I will dream about, with a perfectly crisp empanada, the mushrooms definitely overpowered the dish. For an entree, we got the Skirt Steak Tacos and Chorizo dish. Both were delicious, and make sure you make room for the Chipotle Grits! Loved the atmosphere of this restaurant and the service was top notch!

Red pork chilaquiles

Came here for brunch and it was delicious! I ordered the red pork chilaquiles and I am anticipating the next time I'll have them! Service was great and always checked in on us. The vibes were vibing with constant customers too. The margaritas were delicious but also a bit pricey (heads up). The table side guac was fresh and delicious along with the salsa.

It was well packed inside at the time we walked in between 12:30-1 on Sunday, made reservations but was still an hour wait, however (I believe it was a manager) by the hostess stand stopped us from leaving to walk around the shopping center and offered a bar seating area, tried that but the couple sitting near the two open seats didn't offer to scoot over to make room for us to sit down, then the manager offered a private table that was reserved for a group that never arrived, which was super sweet of her to do, thank you SO much, truly appreciate the hospitality and the kindness during our whole visit! Hubby and I enjoyed our drinks and enjoyed every dish we ordered wishing we had more room to order. We will be back hoping the outstanding service continues. Beautiful layout, you can't go wrong with ordering from menu, it all sounded amazing to try! We want to come back for their "Whole Roasted Pig Out" All you can eat ($19 per person) Hubby has gone to the Mission in Scottsdale couple years ago, and was excited to take me to the new location near our home, we were well impressed with everything!

Of course, this place is known for its cocktails, so naturally they should be great--but trust me, I've been to several cocktail-only establishments that were lackluster. Absolutely NOT the case here. You could literally put all the pages of the menu on a wall, throw a dart, and whatever you hit would be delicious and interesting in its own right. The place is a little small, but honestly, that's what I love about it. It feels cozy in all the right ways. It's also very relaxing, floating along the sea with some delightful surprises here and there. We ordered several drinks, but one that's not on the menu (and they do make it) is the Pearl Diver, which is magnificent here. The mixologists and servers are all amazing and should be proud of themselves for bringing such an experience to Gilbert.

We were waiting for dinner at Buck and Rider and went next-door to see if we could get a drink while waiting. The host greeted us nicely and said that as long as we could be gone within 45 minutes that they would love to welcome us in since they had other reservations, but that worked out perfect because like I said we were waiting for our table next-door anyway. It is small but decorated beautifully thankfully there are no steps because it is dark and you kind of feel a little lost as you're walking through but the ambience is very cool. It feels like just tropical and lush all around you. We were seated at a two top along the wall, which seemed like a small space however, it had a really cool cut out window with a moving landscape of water and an island that through the course of the time as we were sitting there, changed to a storm and then cleared it up again it was just really beautiful visually and didn't feel so closed in. The menu was a large variety of cocktails obviously you need to like rum and bourbon and all of the things that pirates and island feels give. Our server made some suggestions. We ordered two different drink drinks. The first was the macadamia nut piña colada I think we are expecting a little more coconut flavor to this drink however, it was very delicious. Definitely strong. The other was actually our server suggestion that had peaked my interest because it had guava in it and that was called off the grid. It was delicious. It was perfectly balanced with sweet and sour lemon, pineapple guava with bourbon and other flavors. On our way out, I did hit the restroom. They have two neutral bathrooms. It was large. It was very clean, decorated beautifully like the rest of the restaurant. All in all a great way to start the night.

The only name that I recall from the cocktails side of the menu lol. After deciding what to get from the main course, we were ready to eat. We waited and waited and waited some more but no one came back to check up on us. We were there about an hr, having a good time chatting of course, can't ruin my birthday but also we were very hungry. So my friend's bf got up the table, went to the bar and asked for the check. This time was checking…read moreout a speakeasy located in the heart of downtown Gilbert on a Friday evening at 9 p.m. I parked for free on the street before making my way to The White Rabbit. There are some things I really love about The White Rabbit and some that I didn't. Ambiance (3/5): When I think of a speakeasy, I think intimate. The White Rabbit is not that. It's pretty large for a speakeasy with a large bar and a good number of tables/booths. They weren't at capacity while I was there, but there were a good number of people there. Which made it pretty loud. To the point where you have to yell at your bartender when ordering your drink so they can hear you. Perhaps a much different experience on a week day. Getting in the speakeasy was both a hit and a miss. If you're subscribed to their email list, as I am, you get a different password every month. I was excited about this. Upon approaching The White Rabbit, I saw a sign naming the establishment and pointing me in the right direction. This takes away from the spirit of speakeasies which are supposed to be truly hidden without any signage identifying the restaurant. You'll see a velvet rope blocking a stairwell where you tell one of the bouncers the password. I had a reservation. If you don't know the password, as another party there didn't, they ask you to access a QR code to find out or ask others who are waiting. I appreciated the dedication to the cause. Once you get in, you walk down the stairwell, and then enter a cool hallway decked out with Prohibition-style decor. That leads you into the main room. The main room is also Prohibition-style though a bit unremarkable. The bathrooms are clean and also feature some cool paintings (and they also hide that they are actual bathrooms). With that being said, when I liked the hallway and the bathrooms better than the bar itself, that's a bit of an issue. Seats at the bar are bar stools without back support. Never fun for my old man back. I did, on the other hand, appreciate that they have free WiFi. Service (3.5/5): The service was generally pretty good, though a bit slow. They start you off with some water without asking you which is always a nice touch. It was just one of those situations where you have to put some effort into getting a bartender's attention on several occasions. Food (N/A): I had dinner prior so no food for me. I did check out the menu. They have a small selection of appetizers, flatbreads, and desserts. Drinks (3/5): When I'm at a speakeasy, I'm looking for creativity and an interesting blend of ingredients and flavors. While The White Rabbit has a good number of cocktails, many of them didn't attract me. Part of it is a matter of personal preference. There were only two drinks out of about 20 that I was interested in. Overall, I wanted a little more, but with that being said, the drinks were reasonably priced for a speakeasy. Not a bad speakeasy by any means, I have super high standards when it comes to these watering holes. Just not in my top five when it comes to speakeasies in Phoenix and surrounding areas.

A carne asada quesadilla and a Philly cheesesteak. We would never order either again. My wife had a small portion and told me I could eat it for lunch the next day. She didn't want to send it back. And the prices are pretty high for the food. We may go back. The place seemed fun. But not sure based on the food.

The server was nice but unfortunately not attentive. Around 6pm it started to pick up and it seemed like there were only 2 servers, 1 being trained, 1 food runner, and 1 bartender. Therefore I want to give the server the benefit of doubt and say she just couldn't keep up with the tables (valid and it happens). However I didn't see front of the house management step in to help (unfortunate). Support was very much needed. A table was sat next to us and they didn't get drinks until about 10 minutes after they were seated. Overall, the service lacked and there was no explanation as to why. Usually if the kitchen is backed up, the server advises of such or management comes up and checks in on the tables. Food was okay. Not terrible but nothing I'd come back for. All in all, the service needs attention and management needs to provide support (starts from the top). Maybe they were just off their game that day.

We decided upon Bourbon and Bones for the big celebration night. My mother-in-law was able to make a reservation easily over the phone. We have young kids so we were trying to get in as early as possible. The host said they could accommodate us earlier than five, most likely so we set our reservation for 5 PM. We showed up about 4:20 on a Friday and they only had high tops available and said they wouldn't have anything else available until five. The manager-Shadi came over and introduced himself. He was super nice and helpful. He said there was one booth available and if we gave them a few minutes, they could get it ready for us. We already felt very warm, welcomed, and at home! They had a beautiful booth, waiting for us within minutes. We were greeted instantly by our incredible server, AmberLee. My husband and father-in-law ordered Elmer T Lee over an ice ball, actually a few of them. We had sparkling water for the table that was absolutely delicious and thirst quenching on a hot day. The kids ordered water and milk and they came in adorable sippy cups. They brought over complimentary bread and garlic butter, which was delicious. The bread was both pretzel and a regular loaf. We were able to place our orders right away. They have a great happy hour menu Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 PM. We were within that window so I ordered the steak frites for myself and to share with my daughter, my son ordered the burger and fries off of the happy hour menu since there was no kids menu. They can make buttered noodles, grilled cheese, basically anything modified for the kids. Everyone else on the table ordered a fillet with different sides. We all shared the Caesar salad, which was absolutely delicious, I highly recommend that. Everything came out at once, there was a little bit of a weight, but it was well worth it. The steak was delicious, I also highly recommend getting the bone marrow butter as my husband did. So delicious. The burger off the happy hour menu was great as well as the steak frites. Shadi came over to check on us and asked how our experience was, he learned it was my husband's birthday and when we were finished with our meal, a tray of desserts came over. Crème brûlée, chocolate cake, and their famous bourbon buttered cake with ice cream. All three of them were absolutely delicious, but I really loved their bourbon cake. I highly recommend that as a dessert. Ethan also came over several times to explain things about the restaurant, check in on us, and make conversation with us. He was absolutely wonderful. Everyone who worked there was so attentive and lovely. The environment was lively and fun. The place was clean as a whistle and smelled amazing. I couldn't have a single bad thing to say about this experience. It had been a while since we had been out to dinner and this was the perfect experience, through and through. I already can't wait for the next celebration we have in our family so we can go back and celebrate there. Shout out to Shadi, AmberLee, and Ethan for making this experience so incredible.

On a Saturday night after grabbing some ice cream at Topo, we stopped by Sotol Modern Cocktail…read moreKitchen for a nightcap. Located in downtown Gilbert, Sotol is a rooftop bar and restaurant. I love a good rooftop and the weather was perfect. While they don't have a parking lot, free parking is available on the street and in the various surface lots and garages in the area. Ambiance (4.5/5): It's tough to beat a rooftop. Here you'll have nice views of downtown Gilbert, including the historic Gilbert water tower (which lights up at night). It's not a huge restaurant/bar, probably 50 seats or so. A good number of tables and then 15 seats or so at the bar. We sat at the bar. There's a pretty nice mural on one end too. Service (4/5): A little slow to start out with and to close out, but overall, friendly. We found one of the last four remaining seats at the bar. If not for that, there would have been a wait. One drink and then we made our way. Overall, about average. Food (N/A): I was on a liquid diet for this visit but they do have a full menu. Drinks (4/5): Interesting craft cocktail list. The first one on the list is a Sotol cocktail. If you've never had Sotol, it's a Mexican spirit. Not tequila and not mezcal, but somewhat similar to mezcal and it does have a bit of a smoky flavor. The Sotol So Good has sotol, butterfly pea, coconut rum, pineapple, lime, and orgeat. It's purple so it makes an impression. It packs a punch too. If you're looking for a cool spot to grab some food and drinks in the heart of downtown Gilbert, when the weather is nice, Sotol is a great choice!

I've been wanting to check this place out for a while. Right from the start, the elevator was out of order, which wasn't ideal. When we got inside, the place was mostly empty -- only a couple of other guests -- yet we were told to sit anywhere except along a section of tables by the wall. I pointed out a table at the far end, well away from the entrance, but was directed instead to what felt like the least desirable table, with the reasoning being they might need the space for a large party. After a bit of back-and-forth, they eventually let us sit where we preferred, but it made for a poor first impression -- especially considering the restaurant never filled up. Tried a few cocktails -- they were well made and enjoyable, definitely the highlight of the visit. Overall, good drinks but the initial experience left a sour note -- may or may not return. Saluti.
