    Salmon carpaccio
    Stephen L.

Walking into the restaurant, the aesthetic and vibe were great and would definitely come back to try their other entrees. For this occasion we ordered: Bone in ribeye: 4/5- the 20oz steak was perfectly cooked with a charred flavor, but I personally think it's missing butter and some rosemary. As for the mashed potatoes, it was finely grated and mashed and was just divine to eat Salmon carpaccio 3/5- the ponzu flavor was light and not too overwhelming and thought it was great sauce. However, the deduction comes in the way the salmon was cut. For sure if the Salmon were thinly slice vs chucks, I would've gave this dish a higher score. Cutting it in chucks had this mushy texture Ceviche 5/5- this ceviche was delicious. Right amount of seasoning, and with that hint of coconut it complimented the fish and shrimp to perfection As for the service, definitely could've used some improvement. Our server was slow and didn't come often to pick up our dishes or ask us how we are doing. We were the ones that constantly had to wave her down to get help

This was our first time at ORIGEN, and we absolutely loved it. As soon as you walk in, the vibe is so different. The look of the restaurant is upscale but also laid back. We were seated, and our amazing server, Alex, introduced himself and took our drink order. We ordered a few appetizers, the elote and the queso fundido. Once the appetizers arrived, Alex served us ladies our first taste of the queso - DELICIOUS!! For our entree, my hubby and I shared the ribeye with mashed potatoes from the HH menu. It's their Steak Lovers special and a great deal at $29. You can choose from a ribeye and New York, or a filet mignon. The steak was cooked perfectly and very tasty. We also ordered a side of broccolini. It was tender but way too smoky. A little too smoky in our opinion and our least favorite. We were also celebrating a birthday, and they made that extra special by bringing out dessert and a dessert shot for the table to enjoy. Overall, our experience was great, and we would definitely come back. If you go, make sure and ask for Alex; he was amazing!!

Been here a few times recently. One for my birthday and one for happy hour. Both times the service has been awesome. The decor and ambiance is always top notch. I love feeling like I can dress up for a Gilbert restaurant. Having gone for dinner and happy hour, both did not disappoint. Got the flank steak and pork belly tacos at dinner. Loved both and steak cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes were even amazing! The crevice was incredible. The broth everything is in, is different but on point with the fish. I want it everytime I go! I went for happy hour a month later, and you truly can't beat this happy hour anywhere . $30 for 3 different kinds of steaks , cooked how you want and with a side! My filet was cooked nice and rare and was delicious! Highly recommend for anyone who can make it between those short hours. The cucumber mezcalita drink is my favorite! It's light and refreshing. With such a nice restaurant so close and and a great happy hour , I definitely will be back to take advantage!

It was our first time here and we decided to give happy hour a try. I was really impressed with the ambiance of the restaurant right when you walk in and throughout, it's gorgeous. My husband reviewed the menus prior but I didn't. I was shocked by the price of the food and especially the kids meals $18-20ish, and $48ish for enchiladas. That being said, the quality of the food, service, and ambiance helped me feel more comfortable with the cost. I would say I thought it was going to be a more casual experience (because of the plaza) but it does have a more upscale vibe. Our server was fantastic and really made sure to help make our experience just right. We will definitely be back but I think I'll save this place for special occasions, thank you!

We came for happy hour but let me just tell you, we were so impressed with this place! The food was delicious and the restaurant itself was beautiful! Our server had the coolest looking mustache and definitely gave us a 10/10 service! $30 for 12oz ribeye & $10 margaritas on happy hour?? Yeah we'll be back next week!

Went to Or1gen on Valentine's Day and it was such a cute and romantic spot for dinner. The vibes were moody and intimate, which made it feel perfect for a date night. The service was also great. the staff was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. I ordered the Mary's chicken with truffle fries and both were delicious. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the truffle fries were crispy and full of flavor. definitely a great combo. Overall it felt like a really special spot for a romantic dinner, and I'd definitely come back for another date night!!

Found this place through an instagram story and was excited to try it. We were seated during happy hour with no reservation. They easily accommodated our group of five. The food is excellent and flavorful. The portion sizes are very generous and they even offered to fire the steak at two temperatures to split. We ordered the ribeye during happy hour. There was a nice crust on the steak and was well seasoned. The kids meals have extremely generous portions but are 18-20 dollars per kids meals. The service was excellent. Would definitely be worthwhile to check out at happy hour (Sunday through Thursday 3-5)

Def my go-to East Valley "dinner out" spot. Reviewing a neat concept the restaurant has going!!! Tequila Passport!! Enjoy once a month curated pairing that includes a hand-selected tequila tasting, an entree, appetizer, and dessert (Sunday through Thursday). Also enjoy a cocktail of the month with the meal for only $1; 10% off wine bottles; exclusive invitations and discounts for all signature Origen events; tequila tasting classes with limited spots only for passport members. All for $80 per month. And you'll get the always wonderful, friendly and knowledgeable Origen service, with your choice of delightful patio or cool indoor vibe seating. The menu selections available with the monthly passport include the Mary's Chicken, St Louis Pork Ribs, Ribeye Steak, Pork Shank Cochinita Pibil, Tomahawk Steak, Barbacoa Regia, and many others. A veritable walk through of their most popular food over the passport 12-month period. Live music on the weekends. A great place to meet, celebrate and enjoy good friends, food, wine, cocktails, and tequila!!!

This building and the ambience are remarkable. The decor is high-end fashioned, but also interesting with the natural elements such as barking wood. They had live music playing jazz with a saxophone that was really quite soothing and provided an upscale vibe. The staff here were very attentive, but I will say the food was really disappointing. Salmon was flavorless. The prices are overrated. The guacamole was fine. The salad was a bit lacking. The queso was small portions and very stringy. The one saving grace of this meal was the chocolate churros. They were phenomenal. I would come back here for a drink and churros but that's it. The food was overpriced and bland really disappointing given the beautiful setting.

Second visit to Origen, this time flying in specifically for Origen and a bar before heading back out the next morning. Still a good experience, and the restaurant itself is absolutely gorgeous. Food was decent, and the service was on point. My only critique this time is it did not taste like it did last time at all. Still good, but consistency is important! The octopus this time was very close to overcooked, but just still flew under the radar, and the short rib was great. Carpaccio was good itself but the bread was incredibly over roasted to the point of being a giant crumbling crouton. One complaint was the Churro Carajillo, it was vastly different, appeared to be missing all of the alcohol and taste like a latte. I did bring this up and they assured it was correct and offered a small shot on the side to add to it. This was a good gestures, but the recipe absolutely changed since my last visit, and they should REALLY consider going back to the old one. That being said it was good with the additional shot, but still not the same.

The ambiance and the decor here is spectacular. It's beautiful inside and great for special occasions. We had a party of 12 for a milestone birthday. We were able to get a private area with a sliding door and personal bathroom. It was awesome. The service was fantastic and our server was attentive and made sure to check on our group. The food was great. I highly recommend the guacamole with pork belly for the appetizer. I also thought my enchilada entree was delicious. I would definitely come back to try other dishes!

Where do I begin? The decor, food, the service, the added blankets for those sitting outside (a plus)...all were amazing! Impromptu dinner outing and of course, we made reservations because they are busy!! we got lucky finding a spot for us. Our waiter was amazing, so friendly and accommodating! We ordered a variety of apps: The guacamole The ceviche (table fav) the mushrooms (not a fan on its own but paired well with the steak entree) Smoky mac and cheese (OMG AMAZING) Main course: The planco pasta - excellent The white fish - tasty! Ribeye 12oz..excellent (got cold quickly as we sat outside) We wanted to try the chicken but they were sold out :(. cocktails: Mexi-hatten, Mezcal OF, Hibiscus Mex-calita. all were excellent We had the flan for dessert and it was amazing! (comped as we kept ordering things that were sold out lol just our luck) Will definitely be back, especially since its so close to us. Vegetarian items were limited (obviously) but they do have avocado tacos and of course the apps!

I have heard some mixed reviews on this place. We had a fantastic time. Came in for date night on a Friday and scored seats at the bar. Sara was our bartender/server. She was vey knowledgeable about the menu. She was fun and we loved sitting there watching her make many different cocktails. I had a the biggest baked potato I have ever seen covered with steak bites. I literally ate that night, my husband and I mixed with eggs the next morning and still made a few burritos out of the leftovers. Yum! My husband had the filet tacos and bone marrow. He liked it but when given the habanero hot sauce, he was in love! The bone marrow is always a hit with him and got a mescal luge after was the kicker. We will be back.

Disappointing Anniversary Dinner - Expected More for the Price…read more My wife and I decided to celebrate our anniversary here after getting recommendations from friends who spoke highly of the place. Since we're in the Gilbert area, we loved the idea of a great steakhouse without the drive to Scottsdale. We went in with high expectations -- we're no strangers to special occasion dining, so we knew what we were hoping for. Unfortunately, the experience fell short in almost every way. The ambience and service felt more like a polished chain restaurant than the upscale dining experience the prices suggest. For a $300-$400 dinner for two, you expect a certain level of attentiveness and flow -- and we just didn't get it. After our appetizers, we noticed we never received the pretzel bread everyone raves about. When I asked our waiter, he said they had just finished baking a fresh batch. When it arrived, it was cold -- so that clearly wasn't the case. We also had to flag our waiter down to take our entrée order, which shouldn't happen at this price point. My steak was fine -- just fine. My wife's fish was the same. Nothing memorable, nothing that made us feel like the bill was justified. By the end of the meal we were both ready to leave. Our waiter did offer a complimentary dessert for our anniversary, which was a nice gesture, but we were already checked out mentally and chose to go somewhere else to finish the evening on a better note. If you're in the East Valley looking for a truly special dinner, I'd honestly just make the drive to Mastro's Oceans Club or Steak 44.

Use to visit the Chandler location weekly 12-14 years ago.. even told our kiddos that tonight when we brought them here. Problems started as soon as we got our food. All the food came out besides our son's children's steak, was told they had to cook another one. As we were waiting for his steak, my husband noticed his steak wasn't a ribeye like he ordered. He suspected it was a NY Strip Steak. About 7 minutes goes by and manger brings our sons steak. My husband asked the manager if his steak looked like a NY strip to him and manager replied "yes, I think we have the best NY Strip" and my husband nicely replied, I didn't order a Strip, I ordered a Ribeye and told the manager it was fine, he would eat it still and still tasted good but didn't want to be changed for a Ribeye since he got the strip wrong. ($12 difference) I got the firebirds bacon chicken pasta with steak instead of chicken and no tomatoes and green onions. Well.. there was def tomatoes and onions and no bacon. And I was changed $30 for pasta and steak.. that wasn't even made the way I asked. Well my son's (late) steak was suppose to be medium and it was rare. By the time the server came back my son was eating some of my husbands steak and my pasta so we just asked the server to take his meal off the check because it was late and cooked wrong. She said it was absolutely cooked wrong and insisted to bring him a new steak as well as take it off the check. She even asked him to put his steak on a plate and "she'd throw it away and they'll make him a new children steak." Well manager comes back and tell my husband that his steak was in fact a ribeye (it was def not a ribeye.. no marbling whatsoever) and dropped off our sons steak.... It literally was the pieces we had cut up that they just threw back on the grill. Even pieces our son chewed and spit out when it was rare and too chewy for him. Like GROSS!!! They did take the children's steak off the check and gave us a free dessert( which we didn't even want, we would have rather paid the correct amount for my husbands steak...) The waitress was fine, none of this was her fault because she read us back what we ordered and had it all correct.. but she fell short as to getting us refills (never even offered a 2nd round of wine or beer) and when it was time for the check we gave 2 gift cards $50 each and our card to pay. She brought back our copy to sign and she only took off 1 $50 gift card. We had to call her over and she realized she didn't use both giftcards and had to void our card and redo it. The managers were busy the whole night talking to upset tables. This location really needs to get their stuff together. Again, nice to offer dessert but truly all we wanted was to get what we paid for and how we asked for it and tonight wasn't it. Literally felt like we were scammed outta $160. we will be taking our $$ elsewhere.

I highly recommend this and make sure to say yes to the bread before dinner. The hosts and servers are very well trained, respectful and attentive. No complaints from me. Also the interior and decor is classy but not over the top or old and gothic for a steakhouse. Also tables are isolated enough so it's not super loud and pretty good privacy between other groups The only recommendations I can make is to ask the lady at the table next to us with the pungent perfume to take it easy jk! Music is always on pointe and I would never change the look or ambiance of the place either. My last trip here though I had to ask about why the menu had stopped changing as often since we were one of two parties there in the middle of happy hour and there was a large framed picture of a bartender with a bunch of signed notes on the bottom of it beside me at the bar. It turns out that one of the oldest curators and bartenders of the bar and restaurant had passed from a drunk driving incident and I had not known at all! Gosh I was so disappointed in myself that I had ever complained about not having a new menu to try after that...but at the same time it was amazing to hear so many great anecdotes and to learn so much more about him and the history of the bar itself while dining this time. I had a lot of fun times at this bar - including remembering the first time I met that bartender and sharing that memory with the staff that told me their story. They also shared that they would be coming out with a new menu very soon and some of the new items and ideas that would be rolling out so I am also very excited to go back! New food menu tomorrow too?! What?! I was almost tempted to back today to get more of their amazing dishes from the main menu!! Thank you Cat for the amazing hospitality! To update about the food I tried but some of you may not get to try since they're changing it up :P *Tiger Shrimp - DIVINE - JUICY ZUCCHINI STUFFED WITH CURRY THAT MAKES YOUR ENTIRE MOUTH WATER JUST THINKING ABOUT IT ONCE ITS EVER TOUCHED YOUR TONGUE - the prawns are BIGGER THAN YOUR MIDDLE FINGER *Thai Salad - zesty spicy, VERY filling and made in lettuce cups, so very much not your typical salad but very tasty *steak skewers - much more like the juiciest steak I've literally ever had on a skewer - LITERALLY...but not because it's fat, just because they somehow made this steak completely juicified - don't ask me how - ask Cat *Mole Chicken Skewers - My favorite...you should just try it.

Sat at the bar where service was good, drinks were expertly prepared and really enjoyed the dessert! Food looked great as well, I really wish we had eaten here instead of wasting money at the other place.

It was about 5:30 PM on a Wednesday and the place was Poppin! The bar was completely full and it was loud!. We did not have a reservation and the only open seating was at the bar or high tops in the bar area. We were quickly greeted and our server was incredibly on top of it! I noticed that the main menu had a line at the bottom that stated a gluten-free menu would be available upon request. I did ask to see this menu as gluten-free is my dietary preference, not an allergyand I was brought a complementary gluten-free bun instead of the pretzel bread. I thanked our server and told him not to worry that it was just a preference and he told me that he treats all gluten friendly requests as an allergy. I really appreciated the care and concern he had for my health and well-being. This is unprecedented at most restaurants. They had a very extensive gluten-free menu and I can't wait to go back and try so many more items. We did try the Leonard burger and made quite a few modification requests - all of which were 100% accommodated. This burger was so incredibly juicy! My entire hand was dripping by the time I got done eating it. Everything else we tried was delicious. I have no complaints or suggestions for improvement and will definitely be returning soon!

We were here last year and had such an amazing experience that we decided to make it our go-to celebration spot. As luck--or maybe the universe--would have it, we were seated at the same table, received the same incredible service, and enjoyed the same out-of-this-world food. At one point, we even asked ourselves why we don't come here more often and not just for special occasions. The only con we could come up with? Parking can be a bit tough--but easy solution: valet. The food is consistently delicious and fresh, and the ambiance is romantic--perfect for a special night out. This place has definitely become our spot.

The location has a quaint, house-style feel with beautifully manicured grounds. The large doors were open, allowing a lovely breeze to flow through, a welcomed touch. There's also a convenient parking lot right next door, which was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant offers a variety of seating options: outside patio, high-top outdoor seating, inside bar seating, and traditional indoor dining. We arrived in that sweet spot between lunch and happy hour, so the restaurant was quiet and relaxed, exactly how we like it. Drinks My Blue Hawaiian ($15) was absolutely amazing, it really hit the spot, and I was still feeling great when we left! My husband ordered the Pizza Port Chronic ($5) and said it was a nice, refreshing change of pace. Our Server Andrew Andrew greeted us immediately, walked us through both the food and drink menus, and was genuinely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He was the highlight of our visit. Exceptional service. Appetizer Butter Board & Bread We started with the Butter Board ($14), served with toasted bread. The butter itself, whipped with ricotta, herbs, and what I believe was a honey drizzle, was absolutely delicious. My only note is that the bread edges were toasted a bit too dark for my taste, leaving a slightly burnt crust flavor and aroma. Entrées I ordered the Seared Scallops ($48), which were plated with white potatoes, purple potatoes (possibly ube), and sausage over a rich sauce. Unfortunately, the purple potatoes had a burnt taste that was off-putting, and I wasn't able to finish much of my meal. My husband, on the other hand, thoroughly enjoyed his Grilled Striped Bass ($48), beautifully plated and well-executed. Final Thoughts While my entree missed the mark this visit, Andrew's outstanding service and the overall ambience more than carried the experience. The space is gorgeous, the concept is lovely, and I can absolutely see returning when the seasonal menu refreshes. In my opinion, it's worth a second chance, we will be back.
