    Surf & Turf Burrito
    Nina T.

Drove through here and stopped to eat for dinner. It was busy when we came in but were able to sit down right away inside. Our waitress Bree was very friendly and answered all of our questions. She even suggested some items off the menu especially for first time diners here. I ordered the shrimp enchiladas and they were good! I was really happy to ask for no cheese and they did not put cheese inside, while most restaurants have it already pre made. Hubby ordered the surf and turf burrito and he said it was very filling. Highly recommend to come to this gem! Gluten free friendly and well. Atmosphere was busy. With music and lively.

Sat at the bar with my family and service was excellent! Margs so good. Food great. The dinning area was both casual and nice! Packed on a Mother's Day but the team at Zona accommodated. Outdoor seating and lots of beer options.

I found this spot on a whim. We were hungry and decided to stop for a bit to eat before topgolf. Already nearby, and thanks to a quick Yelp search, this spot popped up. The menu looked great and pictures were enticing. We arrived during happy hour which applied to tacos and $3 off all appetizers. We took advantage of some of these offers, but still ordered additional items from the regular menu. Service was wonderful! We were impressed with almost everything we ordered. 1 taco wasn't quite to our liking, but that's a personal preference, not the restaurants fault. We dining on the patio as the weather was perfect. When we arrived, it was pretty chill and and rather peaceful. Nearing the end of our visit, the patio and bar were packed and it was a bit noisy.

Love this new location. They have a fantastic bar and the service is very friendly! Love the ambiance and they have a huge dog friendly outdoor patio! We went for taco Tuesday and got $5 margaritas and tacos! The margaritas are so good definitely not that cheap mix taste. They are legit! The chips and salsa are also great unfortunately not spicy but a great flavor. My family loves the fried fish tacos and they are huge! I really enjoyed my quesabirria taco which was super cheesy! Also had the Al Pastor Pork Belly taco which had a good flavor however it was way to saucy. We also got the calamari and personally I didn't care for it at all due do how large the pieces were and super heavy breading. But other then that I definitely recommend this spot for a Taco Tuesday or happy hour!!

Last weekend, my wife and I dined at Zona Cantina in Gilbert. I went with the carnitas burrito, served enchilada style smothered in both their red and green sauces. The sauces were fantastic--well-prepared, vibrant, and packed with bold, authentic flavor. The burrito was a nice generous size, but unfortunately it wasn't served as hot as I'd prefer. My wife ordered the short rib enchiladas. She found them very tasty with tender meat, though the portion was a bit undersized and, like my dish, could have been hotter. Service was excellent; our server was friendly, attentive, and did a great job. The house margarita was truly outstanding--one of the best we've had in the area! Fair warning: they don't offer complimentary chips and salsa. Minor temperature issues aside, the food had great flavor and we'll definitely be back to try more items soon.

We love Zona! We normally go to the one in Mesa but we were driving by this one and decided to try it out! Great service as you walk in, lovely big spot, nice inviting clean vibe. Loved the wall decoration and I loved how the outdoor area faces the street so you have a nice kind of on the go view! The bar area is very open and large. Waitress were great, everyone helped everyone out if they saw we needed a drink refill and they were just walking by someone who would refill it and if someone was walking by, they would just make sure that we were enjoying our food so it was nice to everyone worked together very well. Food was great as always! So if we are in that area again, we will definitely be going back

This place is redeemed! We absolutely love their other location, but honestly our first visit to this one during grand opening week wasn't the best service experience. We decided to give it another shot and I'm so glad we did. This time the service was so much better. Our server was friendly, attentive, and on top of everything. The food is always insane. So many options all in one spot. Sushi, pasta, Mexican food, and more. There's literally something for everyone. They even adjusted a burrito into a bowl for me to make it gluten free, which I really appreciated. Plus they surprised me with a birthday treat, which was such a good touch. Great food, great service, and totally redeemed in our book. We'll definitely be back!

House Marg. $5 everyday (2-6 PM).

I loved this spot! While in town for a hockey tournament, my wife and I stopped at ZONA Cantina for a late lunch. We arrived about 15 minutes before 2pm (this will make sense shortly) and were quickly seated outside on their covered (pergola) patio. Our server came over to take our drink order, and I ordered a house lime marg. Our server (also the bartender) let me know the margs are $5 from 2-6PM, but... as he was also the bartender, he'd make it work! I very much appreciated that. The marg was good (dried lime wedge added, which I've never seen before), their house chips and salsa are fantastic, and my fried shrimp tacos were very satisfying. My wife had potato tacos, which were also a first for her. She said they were tasty (which worked, as they were the only vegetarian option on the menu). Prices are decent and parking is not an issue. The next time I am in the Phoenix area, I would definitely stop off at a ZONA Cantina again (a few locations across the metro area).

The staff are very nice and friendly. Each one was smiling while serving. The atmosphere was lively and upbeat. I ordered the Birria eggrolls and Carne Asada fries with beans on the side. For a drink I went with the house margarita that was on happy hour. I enjoyed the margarita. The shell of the Birria eggroll was really thick and the inside was mostly cheese...no Birria meat. It tasted like I was eating a thick cheese stick. The Carne Asada fries were just ok.

I knew I was going to love Zona from the first bite. I'm already plotting my return; honestly it could be later this week. Asada Nachos, 10/10: huge portion, no lack of toppings, the red sauce is amazing and kid friendly. Caesar salad, 10/10: tons of chicken, delicious dressing that was more of a Mexican inspired Caesar. Breakfast burrito, 7/10: it was good but it was giving more of a lunch burrito than a breakfast burrito, was hoping for more egg. Asada queso taco, 9/10: big taco, it was delicious. Wish it had some salsa. Drinks were FANTASTIC. You won't regret getting a margarita. Our server, Tony, took good care of us. He was very attentive and friendly, and very accommodating with our food modifications. Had no issues getting a table for brunch on a Sunday. We sat on the patio and it was lovely.

I am SO happy they opened a Gilbert location!! I had been to their East Mesa location a handful of times and never had a bad meal or a bad drink. I had to get my go-to order just to make sure this new location was up to par with the OG. My favorite dish is the chicken enchiladas, and they did in fact taste the exact same as any other time I've had them. Very delicious, and the rice and beans on the side are a perfect pairing. I need to come back soon, I've been craving them again!

I have been to Zona at their old location, but decided to try this new Gilbert location. The decor is fine - - there are a couple of cool art pieces, but other than that it's nothing to write home about. Our server was really sweet and attentive. We started with the $5 lime margaritas. They were standard margaritas. The Arroz Yakimeshi I ordered was delicious. I added steak to it, but really it isn't necessary--it is delicious just the way it comes. Son's Zona Burrito was ginormous, and pretty good. It was served with a side of fries. Hubby had the grilled fish plate, which was also pretty good. Is this the best Mexican food around? Maybe not, but it is good. Definitely worth a visit.

Ugh. Second visit and I really want to love this place, but don't! The first visit we had mostly happy hour food/drinks so I gave it a pass, fried food and sushi rolls were "ok". Tonight it was just me and my husband we sat outside and it was lovely. I got the surf and turf tacos, and they were like tiny pieces of shrimp, very well done carne asada, and onions that tasted like they'd been soaked and fabuloso dang it!! I ate one of the three, my husband ate the other. He had birria nachos and they were descent. The service was GREAT! Guess I'll try something else next time - but if it's another miss we may be done

I kicked off our 90-minute experience with the Blackberry Yuzu Margarita, and it was the perfect balance of crisp, sweet, and tart. In between cocktails, we shared a couple of snacks that were such a welcome addition -- something you sadly don't always find at local speakeasies! The service was top-notch thanks to our bartender Rocco, whose knowledge and attention to detail made the experience even more fun. Of course, this place is known for its cocktails, so naturally they should be great--but trust me, I've been to several cocktail-only establishments that were lackluster. Absolutely NOT the case here. You could literally put all the pages of the menu on a wall, throw a dart, and whatever you hit would be delicious and interesting in its own right. The place is a little small, but honestly, that's what I love about it. It feels cozy in all the right ways. It's also very relaxing, floating along the sea with some delightful surprises here and there. We ordered several drinks, but one that's not on the menu (and they do make it) is the Pearl Diver, which is magnificent here. The mixologists and servers are all amazing and should be proud of themselves for bringing such an experience to Gilbert.

I went with my bestie and her bf. And her bf ended up chatting with the guy at the bar while my bestie and I sat down. Anyway, as we got seated, we were handed a menu (food and cocktails). We received water after we ordered our own drinks. My friend and I got the same thing. It had like lychee and lemon in it while her bf had this pornstar drink. The only name that I recall from the cocktails side of the menu lol. After deciding what to get from the main course, we were ready to eat. We waited and waited and waited some more but no one came back to check up on us. We were there about an hr, having a good time chatting of course, can't ruin my birthday but also we were very hungry. So my friend's bf got up the table, went to the bar and asked for the check. He was going to pay but I said it's on me. I left no tip with bad customer service as no one came back to us. I guess it pays to be at the bar and all the outside seating. But a friend wanted to meet for food around the area and this spit popped up on Yelp. It didn't disappoint! I was skeptical at first as having a sign posted at the sidewalk and a bouncer outside the stairs going down, was a sheer sign that this isn't such a secret and speakeasy-like spot. But I was proven wrong very quickly. Dre who was the bouncer and I'd much rather call Drayden, is young but friendly. The hall leading down to the entrance was well decorated. It's hard to miss the door when you can hear people on the other side :). Hostess was nice. Alex immediately introduced himself from behind the bar as I sat down, and Meagan was the main bartender this night. They were both a wealth of knowledge when it came to cocktails. This time was checking…read moreout a speakeasy located in the heart of downtown Gilbert on a Friday evening at 9 p.m. I parked for free on the street before making my way to The White Rabbit. There are some things I really love about The White Rabbit and some that I didn't. Ambiance (3/5): When I think of a speakeasy, I think intimate. The White Rabbit is not that. It's pretty large for a speakeasy with a large bar and a good number of tables/booths. They weren't at capacity while I was there, but there were a good number of people there. Which made it pretty loud. To the point where you have to yell at your bartender when ordering your drink so they can hear you. Perhaps a much different experience on a week day. Getting in the speakeasy was both a hit and a miss. If you're subscribed to their email list, as I am, you get a different password every month. I was excited about this. Upon approaching The White Rabbit, I saw a sign naming the establishment and pointing me in the right direction. This takes away from the spirit of speakeasies which are supposed to be truly hidden without any signage identifying the restaurant. You'll see a velvet rope blocking a stairwell where you tell one of the bouncers the password. I had a reservation. If you don't know the password, as another party there didn't, they ask you to access a QR code to find out or ask others who are waiting. I appreciated the dedication to the cause. Once you get in, you walk down the stairwell, and then enter a cool hallway decked out with Prohibition-style decor. That leads you into the main room. The main room is also Prohibition-style though a bit unremarkable. The bathrooms are clean and also feature some cool paintings (and they also hide that they are actual bathrooms). With that being said, when I liked the hallway and the bathrooms better than the bar itself, that's a bit of an issue. Seats at the bar are bar stools without back support. Never fun for my old man back. I did, on the other hand, appreciate that they have free WiFi. Service (3.5/5): The service was generally pretty good, though a bit slow. They start you off with some water without asking you which is always a nice touch. It was just one of those situations where you have to put some effort into getting a bartender's attention on several occasions. Food (N/A): I had dinner prior so no food for me. I did check out the menu. They have a small selection of appetizers, flatbreads, and desserts. Drinks (3/5): When I'm at a speakeasy, I'm looking for creativity and an interesting blend of ingredients and flavors. While The White Rabbit has a good number of cocktails, many of them didn't attract me. Part of it is a matter of personal preference. There were only two drinks out of about 20 that I was interested in. Overall, I wanted a little more, but with that being said, the drinks were reasonably priced for a speakeasy. Not a bad speakeasy by any means, I have super high standards when it comes to these watering holes. Just not in my top five when it comes to speakeasies in Phoenix and surrounding areas.

Our server was attentive as were all the staff that helped around the restaurant. We both ordered a cocktail, filets, and split the creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. We ended the night with a butter cake, a gift from our server (thank you!!). The filet was cooked perfect, the sides were delicious, and how could you not love a butter cake? The cocktail wasn't too strong, and we were checked on an appropriate number of times. Because we got married on a Wednesday night, the restaurant was not busy! Loved the interior, it was the perfect mix of fun but elegant without being too fancy. We would highly recommend and look forward to another visit!

On a Saturday night after grabbing some ice cream at Topo, we stopped by Sotol Modern Cocktail…read moreKitchen for a nightcap. Located in downtown Gilbert, Sotol is a rooftop bar and restaurant. I love a good rooftop and the weather was perfect. While they don't have a parking lot, free parking is available on the street and in the various surface lots and garages in the area. Ambiance (4.5/5): It's tough to beat a rooftop. Here you'll have nice views of downtown Gilbert, including the historic Gilbert water tower (which lights up at night). It's not a huge restaurant/bar, probably 50 seats or so. A good number of tables and then 15 seats or so at the bar. We sat at the bar. There's a pretty nice mural on one end too. Service (4/5): A little slow to start out with and to close out, but overall, friendly. We found one of the last four remaining seats at the bar. If not for that, there would have been a wait. One drink and then we made our way. Overall, about average. Food (N/A): I was on a liquid diet for this visit but they do have a full menu. Drinks (4/5): Interesting craft cocktail list. The first one on the list is a Sotol cocktail. If you've never had Sotol, it's a Mexican spirit. Not tequila and not mezcal, but somewhat similar to mezcal and it does have a bit of a smoky flavor. The Sotol So Good has sotol, butterfly pea, coconut rum, pineapple, lime, and orgeat. It's purple so it makes an impression. It packs a punch too. If you're looking for a cool spot to grab some food and drinks in the heart of downtown Gilbert, when the weather is nice, Sotol is a great choice!

Right from the start, the elevator was out of order, which wasn't ideal. When we got inside, the place was mostly empty -- only a couple of other guests -- yet we were told to sit anywhere except along a section of tables by the wall. I pointed out a table at the far end, well away from the entrance, but was directed instead to what felt like the least desirable table, with the reasoning being they might need the space for a large party. After a bit of back-and-forth, they eventually let us sit where we preferred, but it made for a poor first impression -- especially considering the restaurant never filled up. Tried a few cocktails -- they were well made and enjoyable, definitely the highlight of the visit. Overall, good drinks but the initial experience left a sour note -- may or may not return. Saluti.
