First off the restaurant is super cute amd they have a giant dog friendly patio! The margaritas were fantastic as were the chips and salsa! However, I think they use too many sauces in everything including tons of mayo (aioli) and also everything deep fried is beyond heavy breaded! I lime that they're trying to do something a little different but for me I like my tacos simplistic. Also, I tried ordering the Grilled White Fish and it was way too fishy for me. Hardly ate any of it cause it was that bad. Service has always been great though!
Honestly? Meh. This place is just down the road from me and I've seen it for a bit since it opened so I finally decided to try it. Cocktail and mocktail were ok but took SO LONG to get to us. It was not busy, we got a table right away so not sure why it took so long. We ordered queso fundido appetizer and it came well after our entree. We ended up not eating much because it was pretty bad. The texture and flavor was just off. The waitress did take it off the bill which I appreciated and told her she didn't have to. The potato tacos were decent but I would have preferred them whole and not cut in half. Service was just slow and nothing to rave about. Not the worst but definitely not the best.
Great food, drinks and service. Staff were all super nice and hardworking. We just moved to the area and are happy we found this place! We will be frequenting here! Highly recommend!!
I found this spot on a whim. We were hungry and decided to stop for a bit to eat before topgolf. Already nearby, and thanks to a quick Yelp search, this spot popped up. The menu looked great and pictures were enticing. We arrived during happy hour which applied to tacos and $3 off all appetizers. We took advantage of some of these offers, but still ordered additional items from the regular menu. Service was wonderful! We were impressed with almost everything we ordered. 1 taco wasn't quite to our liking, but that's a personal preference, not the restaurants fault. We dining on the patio as the weather was perfect. When we arrived, it was pretty chill and and rather peaceful. Nearing the end of our visit, the patio and bar were packed and it was a bit noisy.
Last weekend, my wife and I dined at Zona Cantina in Gilbert. I went with the carnitas burrito, served enchilada style smothered in both their red and green sauces. The sauces were fantastic--well-prepared, vibrant, and packed with bold, authentic flavor. The burrito was a nice generous size, but unfortunately it wasn't served as hot as I'd prefer. My wife ordered the short rib enchiladas. She found them very tasty with tender meat, though the portion was a bit undersized and, like my dish, could have been hotter. Service was excellent; our server was friendly, attentive, and did a great job. The house margarita was truly outstanding--one of the best we've had in the area! Fair warning: they don't offer complimentary chips and salsa. Minor temperature issues aside, the food had great flavor and we'll definitely be back to try more items soon.
We love Zona! We normally go to the one in Mesa but we were driving by this one and decided to try it out! Great service as you walk in, lovely big spot, nice inviting clean vibe. Loved the wall decoration and I loved how the outdoor area faces the street so you have a nice kind of on the go view! The bar area is very open and large. Waitress were great, everyone helped everyone out if they saw we needed a drink refill and they were just walking by someone who would refill it and if someone was walking by, they would just make sure that we were enjoying our food so it was nice to everyone worked together very well. Food was great as always! So if we are in that area again, we will definitely be going back
So much can go very wrong when you fuse food. Zona's has found the magic sweet spot between asian and mexican. I am from Hawaii and can be brutal in my poke nacho review, so to say I would order it again is a glow up. The birria egg rolls... genious!!! The server recommended a cucumber jalapeno margarita, which was appreciated, so refreshing. The neon lights are club like and fun. However, I do not recommend sitting directly under them.
This place is redeemed! We absolutely love their other location, but honestly our first visit to this one during grand opening week wasn't the best service experience. We decided to give it another shot and I'm so glad we did. This time the service was so much better. Our server was friendly, attentive, and on top of everything. The food is always insane. So many options all in one spot. Sushi, pasta, Mexican food, and more. There's literally something for everyone. They even adjusted a burrito into a bowl for me to make it gluten free, which I really appreciated. Plus they surprised me with a birthday treat, which was such a good touch. Great food, great service, and totally redeemed in our book. We'll definitely be back!
I loved this spot! While in town for a hockey tournament, my wife and I stopped at ZONA Cantina for a late lunch. We arrived about 15 minutes before 2pm (this will make sense shortly) and were quickly seated outside on their covered (pergola) patio. Our server came over to take our drink order, and I ordered a house lime marg. Our server (also the bartender) let me know the margs are $5 from 2-6PM, but... as he was also the bartender, he'd make it work! I very much appreciated that. The marg was good (dried lime wedge added, which I've never seen before), their house chips and salsa are fantastic, and my fried shrimp tacos were very satisfying. My wife had potato tacos, which were also a first for her. She said they were tasty (which worked, as they were the only vegetarian option on the menu). Prices are decent and parking is not an issue. The next time I am in the Phoenix area, I would definitely stop off at a ZONA Cantina again (a few locations across the metro area).

The staff are very nice and friendly. Each one was smiling while serving. The atmosphere was lively and upbeat. I ordered the Birria eggrolls and Carne Asada fries with beans on the side. For a drink I went with the house margarita that was on happy hour. I enjoyed the margarita. The shell of the Birria eggroll was really thick and the inside was mostly cheese...no Birria meat. It tasted like I was eating a thick cheese stick. The Carne Asada fries were just ok.

Asada Nachos, 10/10: huge portion, no lack of toppings, the red sauce is amazing and kid friendly. Caesar salad, 10/10: tons of chicken, delicious dressing that was more of a Mexican inspired Caesar. Breakfast burrito, 7/10: it was good but it was giving more of a lunch burrito than a breakfast burrito, was hoping for more egg. Asada queso taco, 9/10: big taco, it was delicious. Wish it had some salsa. Drinks were FANTASTIC. You won't regret getting a margarita. Our server, Tony, took good care of us. He was very attentive and friendly, and very accommodating with our food modifications. Had no issues getting a table for brunch on a Sunday. We sat on the patio and it was lovely.

My lunch with my wife during happy hour. Nachos-not spicy but delicious. The two street tacos-Fish & Shrimp were devoured by my wife. The appetizer (center) for the name but presented uniquely and eaten. They had drinks and a full inside and outside bar. Loved the feeling. Would visit again. read more
My husband and I have been waiting a few months to try Zona since we live in the area. We came in on a Friday night and it was busy! We were lucky enough to take the last seat and it was tight! Our server was wonderful, efficient and friendly. We shared the guacamole and chips, and the serving size was small. We did have to ask for more chips. I had the chicken flautas from the appetizer menu for dinner and it was a great size. Personally, I wish the sauce came in something a little bit bigger for dipping. The flavors were excellent and we had one of the best margaritas I've had in a long time! Overall, we would definitely come back and I'd love to try their sushi. I have been to Zona at their old location, but decided to try this new Gilbert location. The decor is fine - - there are a couple of cool art pieces, but other than that it's nothing to write home about. Our server was really sweet and attentive. We started with the $5 lime margaritas. They were standard margaritas. The Arroz Yakimeshi I ordered was delicious. I added steak to it, but really it isn't necessary--it is delicious just the way it comes. Son's Zona Burrito was ginormous, and pretty good. It was served with a side of fries. Hubby had the grilled fish plate, which was also pretty good. Is this the best Mexican food around? Maybe not, but it is good. Definitely worth a visit. read more

Ugh. Second visit and I really want to love this place, but don't! The first visit we had mostly happy hour food/drinks so I gave it a pass, fried food and sushi rolls were "ok". Tonight it was just me and my husband we sat outside and it was lovely. I got the surf and turf tacos, and they were like tiny pieces of shrimp, very well done carne asada, and onions that tasted like they'd been soaked and fabuloso dang it!! I ate one of the three, my husband ate the other. He had birria nachos and they were descent. The service was GREAT! I am SO happy they opened a Gilbert location!! I had been to their East Mesa location a handful of times and never had a bad meal or a bad drink. I had to get my go-to order just to make sure this new location was up to par with the OG. My favorite dish is the chicken enchiladas, and they did in fact taste the exact same as any other time I've had them. Very delicious, and the rice and beans on the side are a perfect pairing. I need to come back soon, I've been craving them again! read more

Zona Cantina is a decent spot with a good atmosphere, but unfortunately, the food didn't quite deliver during my visit, leading to a mixed experience. We started with a Happy Hour Margarita, which was a nice, refreshing way to kick off the meal. For the appetizers and mains, we ordered the Birria Eggrolls, Guac and Chips, and the Asada Loaded Fries. Honestly, the food was just okay. While everything was fresh and the portions were good, there were no real flavor bombs in what I tried. The dishes lacked the punch and seasoning I look for in modern Mexican cuisine. Everything felt a bit muted and didn't leave a lasting impression. However, the reason this review stays at three stars (and not lower) is entirely due to the service. Our server, Jade, was an absolute delight. She was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience enjoyable, despite the mediocre food. Overall, it's a fine place for drinks and maybe the atmosphere, but the kitchen needs to step up the flavor profile of its popular items. A group of friends and I decided to try out Zona Cantina on a Saturday evening and it was a meal that started out strong and unfortunately declined by the entree course. The restaurant is new and hip and modern inside with a nice looking bar and outdoor seating with heaters. Despite the restaurant being half empty, we were seated right by the front door but were able to change tables once we asked. To start, we ordered some margaritas, the birria eggrolls, taquitos, and chips and salsa. The birria eggrolls were tasty with the consommé and the taquitos were good as well. The salsa in the chips and salsa was very good and the chips are on the thicker side but homemade. I definitely prefer complimentary chips and salsa but $5 wasn't bad and at least the salsa was great. The entrees were where it started to decline. Two out of four of us received our food fairly quickly and then the third person received theirs shortly after. We sat there waiting for the fourth person to receive their enchiladas but five minutes went by before our server checked on us. She saw we didn't have all of the food and said she would check on it. This repeated two more times before she came back and told us that the food runner brought the enchiladas to the wrong table and they'd have to remake the food. Eventually, she finally got her food with a small apology and the runner almost brought her food to the wrong table again. Unfortunately, that wasn't the only hiccup. I ordered the shrimp tacos and immediately could smell something off but couldn't place my finger on it. Finally, I smelled the corn tortilla and while it smelled like corn, it also smelled like chemicals/plastic/something completely off putting. I passed it around the table to verify and everyone agreed that corn tortillas should not smell like that--we all live in Arizona so we know what tortillas should smell like. I informed the waiter so that they could at least check it out in the back and the manager came out apologetically. She said she didn't smell anything but would apply an entree discount. Later, we received the bill and she applied 15% or $2.70 of a discount on our $140 check. Overall the drinks and apps were good so I wish we just ended at that point. We were hopeful for this new spot but probably won't be rushing to return after our experience. read more

The Chef is so creative with the fusion of Mexican food with other nationalities. The Mexican & Korean Style Burger was amazing with the Korean short ribs. The tacos and other foods were delicious with large portions. We arrived at 6:00PM and there were many tables available; however, by 6:30PM almost all the tables were taken. We then understood why the hostess asked if we made a reservation. There is comfortable indoor and outdoor seating. The only drawback was the check-in process with the hostess that took so long. If you did not have a reservation, you had to provide an email address and phone number which took a while to input in the computer. We arrived at 6:00PM and there was a line at the hostess stand because it was taking so long to input the information. They need a better system because it was a bad first impression. read more

We have now been 2x to this establishment and we will be back. The food is delicious, the staff is attentive and the management was amazing! We had an issue with our carne asada one day and it was handled perfectly. The ambiance is very family friendly and my 4.5 year old loved the food too! Love Zona Cantina & Cocina! The vibe here is awesome! It's fun, lively, and super chill at the same time. The décor and music make it such a great spot to hang out. The food is so good! The potato and surf and turf tacos are my absolute favorite! And the jalapeño margarita is to die for!
