YUM!!! Been on a real beer kick lately, and this really hit the spot for a quick happy hour pick-me-up on a Wednesday evening. I got one of their sour beers and absolutely loved it! It was practically empty when me and my friend came in, so we sat at the bar and were offered samples if we wanted to try anything before buying a pint. The person working was so kind, and understanding of our chattiness hahaha! The value was good as well, reasonable pricing for good draft beer! This place has a ton of games and it would be an amazing date night! They have a ton of beer and wine choices. I had the sangria and it was super refreshing and my wife had the pomegranate mule. There is a lot of room at the bar and little bar stools all around. The bartender was quick to check in. I just wish he was a little more friendly. This was our first time coming so it would've been nice to have some conversation and a little more information on the beers and drinks other than reading a board. This is a very calm space from what we experienced. It seems like it is a local sport; not to many people. I think the time we stayed there was about 5 people in addition to us. It looks like they have a happy hour from 1-7 everyday. The only other thing I wish they had was dine in foods. It does look like they offer snack foods. Stopped in here thinking it was a restaurant since I was shopping in the area but it's more like a pub-type environment. Upon entry, I immediately felt out of place as the staff and everyone inside(only a few people were inside) looked at me as if I didn't belong in there. Talk about an awkward moment so instead of seating myself to explore and possibly stick around, I just started snapping a few photos and left. I was so out of place and was such in shock at not being greeted by the lady who worked there that my nervous awkward moment kicked in. Nope, I'll never return and nope I don't recommend it unless you've visited before and fit in. We stopped in on a Friday evening. They have a Happy Hour everyday from 1pm-7pm, so you're sure to find something you like. They offer wine and craft beer. They also have cans for you to enjoy or take home. They are not a restaurant however, they allow you to bring food in or have it delivered. They do have small plates to snack on. The only thing I would have liked was a QR code to view the menu rather than making a selection from the chalk board menu. If you're walking in and sit on the right side of the bar, you'll be so close to the menu that it makes it very hard to read. I noticed a couple sitting at the end of the bar that had their dog practically sitting on the bar as they allowed it to sit in their lap as their seats were lower than the rest of the bar seats. read more

The beer selection is amazing... that's an understatement; but what sets the Pig apart from other places is the service! Dale in particular is an amazing bartender. His knowledge of beer is endless... His ability to connect with customers is seamless and is overall attitude and service is exemplary. A buddy of mine left his sunglasses in the bar one night, and just because Dale happened to overhear a conversation...left the bar after his shift and took my friend's sunglasses to him at a nearby restaurant. When's the last time your bartender shook your hand? The few and rare times have been at the Whining Pig. This place stands out to me because of it's very unique charm and massive menu of refreshments. You walk in and it's pretty much a room with a bar. Around the circumference is additional seating and space for your beverage and snacks. Look to your right, the wall is a chalkboard completely overwhelmed by beer and wine selections. It's a sight to be admired. It took me a couple visits to learn it and realize the variety and options readily available. Sometimes I order beer. When I do, I like to ask the bartenders and they always have a recommendation based on my tastes. They have over 100 craft beer selections, so it's worth going back to really fine tune your favorites. There's even a brown bag special - a mystery canned beer for cheap. Sometimes I order wine. When I do, I opt to create my own flight. I've carried a pretty good buzz off of several shades of red. Pare it with a meat and cheese plate and you've got yourself a date. Speaking of dates, you ought to bring a friend to this establishment. Taking turns picking drinks is half the fun. Then, bust open one of the board games. They're all over the place. Superb little happy hour spot in a bustling area of Gilbert. The Whining Pig may be easy to miss since it's a pretty small space but they have an overwhelmingly large selection of craft beers on tap. The organization of beers can be a bit much --they are just written on one side of the bar on a large chalkboard wall, so I asked the bartender what she recommended for a lighter IPA and I loved her suggestion (but forget the name). This is a cool little secret that you almost don't want to give a great review in fear that even more people will come. But it is just too cool to deprive them of their proper kudos. The staff is extremely knowledgeable, though at times I feel as though they are pushing certain brands or brews (maybe their favorite or maybe ulterior motives?). No biggie, they never blink if you pass on the recommendation and are always willing to provide a sample of anything not bottled or canned. The only drawback, and also another cool aspect, is the small venue. So, it will be packed at prime time. We tend to go for One-And-Done after a night out or after dinner and could usually get a few seats. Or wait a while and the place rotates as food is very, very limited to grilled cheese. Nobody sits there all afternoon chugging $9 brews (prices vary all over the place from extremely affordable to tempting to try $$). And the best part... No Coors Light or Budweiser! The bar offers nearly three dozen taps, well over 100 beers by the bottle and can, and about 50 wine selections. The Whining Pig bar has an ever-changing selection of beer and wine. Ask for a brown bag beer! It's a "surprise" cold canned beer selected by your server, nestle in a brown bag & served to you! Fun concept! Didn't try their food menu. While The Whining Pig's drink selection may be extensive, the food options are pretty limited. For the wine menu they pair a meat and cheese plate and suggest a sweet peanut butter brownie for dessert. We didn't see this, but supposedly they provide plenty of board games to keep you entertained while you drink! We had great conversation & tried some great new drafts! We will be back.. read more

I absolutely love The Whining Pig! This is quickly becoming my favorite spot in Gilbert - which is important because it is close to home and I will be visiting frequently! This last visit I came with five others and we all sat up against the chalkboard and played board games while sipping on beer and wine. Although it is a very small space it was still big enough for each of us to feel comfortable and have an amazing time! Try it out but don't wait around for a big spot, you'll get lucky for a few chairs or else you'll be standing. I've been here twice now and each time I end up staying much longer than anticipated because the drink selections, games and atmosphere. I love the chill dive vibe, giving off a very comfortable and throwback feel. I feel like a kid again with the benefits of being an adult. I already can't wait to go back! If you're looking for something that isn't as busy as Downtown Gilbert, has a great variety of drink options (beer/wine) and has a lot of character - this is going to quickly become your favorite spot too! read more

We had such a blast here! I have visited the Whining Pig in uptown and love that location as well. I particularly enjoy the games available for everyone to play. I feel as though it provides fun with friends or can even become an icebreaker to meet new people at any given opportunity. I was a little bummed they were out of one of their panini but, they must be that good because we did arrive rather later in the evening. The staff was very friendly and pretty chill which made for a pretty chill environment. I had a few of their brown bag options at a discount because the wide variety of beer selection leaves me scratching my head with 2 empty hands... easily solved with a "surprise me" type of option which is left up to the server. They also didn't seem to mind all the doodling on the chalk board, I just can't help myself when there is a chalkboard and chalk to doodle on. All and all, I am stone things are coming out to the east side of the valley because it's been rather unamusing until the past year or so.
