This place is so good. So, so good. It's a great cross between barbecue and Mexican, in the best way ever. There is a very small amount of indoor seating--one long high top table, and a counter along one window. There is plenty of patio seating in the front porch area, and a large covered are with picnic tables and large mister fans. Its very cozy, surrounded by greenery. The menu is made up of barbecue plates with meat sold by the pound, platters for larger groups, tacos, burritos, and various sides. Energy time I have been here I've ordered the brisket burrito--it's simply too delicious for me not to get. Loved it! Not normally in Gilbert, but since I was this place was high on my list of places to try. I knew Mexi-Q was going to be good when I found myself rationing the last few bites of my taco because I didn't want it to end. We went all-in on the brisket and ordered the Large Call Out Brisket Taco, Brisket Tostada, and Brisket Burrito. Everything was solid, but the taco was the standout by a mile. The brisket was smoky, tender, and loaded with flavor, and somehow every bite was better than the last. The real sleeper hit was the BBQ sauce. I'm usually not someone who talks about sauce, but this one deserves its own mention. It had the perfect balance of sweet, smoky, and tangy and made everything on the table better. The mac and cheese was another surprise favorite. Rich, creamy, and absolutely worth ordering. We also tried the Mexican Twinkie. Full disclosure, I actually don't really care for BBQ food and consider it my least favorite cuisine but every once in awhile, I find myself wanting some, which makes my husband very happy! Anyway, because I don't really gravitate towards BBQ food, I loved the idea of going somewhere where I could also get Mexican food and other types of sides, and Caldwell County Mexi-Q was so perfect for both of us and our wants, that I could seriously cry. It was amazing and so delicious and exactly what we both wanted. I loved everything, even the BBQ food! That's how good it was if it won we over. I really loved the birria tacos, the jalapeño cheddar sausage, the brisket (the fat was insane on this and I loved that so much), the pulled pork, the refried beans, the mac and cheese, and the elote corn. There wasn't a bad item among the bunch! I highly recommend getting the Mexi-Q platter because you get to sample a little bit of everything and it's perfect for two people. I stopped by this spot to try their spin of Mexican bbq. The carnitas taco was really good. I put the Carolina gold bbq sauce on it and it was perfect. I liked that sauce so much that I'd consider going back just to try it on some of their other bbq. I didn't like the brisket birria taco as much because it was way too salty for me. When you go in you have to loops around the only large table in there so no one actually sits inside because it's a bit awkward. The line goes by pretty quickly. It was not busy and he went through each dish and explained how it was different from the dishes at Caldwell BBQ. I appreciated the information and pondered the different choices. Other two in party showed up and placed started to get busy. I selected the smoked brisket burrito with beans and pico. The side dish was elote. 12/23/2025 I had tried Caldwell County BBQ a while ago and really enjoyed it, so of course their sister location Mexi-Q has been on my must-try list. Finally dined here with a friend for dinner on a Tuesday around 6pm. The small parking lot was full, so I ended up parking down the street. The indoor space is also small. There's one large high top inside, and the line was wrapped around it. We waited in line for about 20 minutes, ordered at the counter, then got our food within a few minutes. It felt too warm and muggy inside, so we sat at one of the many tables on the patio. I went in thinking I'd try a burrito, but got three tacos instead so that I could try different meat options - smoked chile verde pork, smoked carnitas pork, and smoked chicken. The chile verde was my favorite - flavorful, tender pork. The chicken was light on flavor - probably won't order that again. I also got a Mexi-Q Twinkie - jalapeño stuffed with brisket and cream cheese, wrapped with bacon. I would definitely order the Twinkie again. My friend got the El General Patton sandwich - it was stacked so high with 1/3 pound of chopped prime brisket, 1/3 pound of pulled pork, and a 1/3 of a sausage link on a Hawaiian roll. Yo, I cannot write enough reviews about how good the barbecue is at this place. Every time we go, we have the best experience and the best food. Service is always on point. The restaurant is a bit small so when you walk in you immediately walk up to the counter and order your food and then you take your tray and find another place to sit. There's a plenty of seating outside, but not as much seating on the inside, so if there's inclement weather, I would definitely be aware of that This time wasn't any different. Unfortunately this was a pretty miserable experience for us. First, we had no choice but to eat in the outdoor seating area. 112 degrees and the misters did nothing. Not the restaurant's fault but they may want to consider enclosing the area and adding air conditioning. Second, my food was quite poor. I got the brisket burrito and knew with the first bite that something was wrong. I opened the burrito and found that about 80% of the "brisket" was actually inedible fat. I understand that brisket has some fat, but since the poor meat was selected by an employee and then hidden inside a burrito, I was forced to spit out large wads of disgusting fat.
