Came by on a Tuesday evening around 7pm. Not too busy as there were only a few other patrons. Open air seating options were nice. Straightforward menu. Ordered brisket, pulled pork, jalapeño cheddar sausages, pork sandwich, with sides of Mac and cheese, potato salad, beef tallow fries, creamed elote, and cornbread. Food came out somewhat quickly, however, a lot of it was pretty dry. The brisket was the only "tender" protein. Sides were decent, except for the cornbread. The cornbread was so dry, we couldn't even finish it. Overall, an okay meal if you just needed a quick BBQ fix. Our waitress was great and attentive throughout our meal. Unfortunately, one and done for me.

I stopped in here to grab some food for my friends in town. I was hoping it would be better than it was. The brisket was the best part Cornbread 3/10 dry and no flavor Mac and cheese - limited flavor, needs more cheese Chicken wings - 6/10 Cheesecake - decent but not great Service was great though

We had the brisket and wings and then finished it off with peach cheesecake and banana pudding. It was very good. * I wish they would do the late night menu all day...

I highly recommend coming here! This was the best BBQ that I have had in the valley! The staff were excellent! The prices were reasonable! The bbq was perfectly balanced and the meat was hot and tender! Plenty of seating and outdoor seating as well! There is a parking garage around back that is a very short walk to the restaurant! The restaurant was clean and decorated nicely!

Our first experience couple of months ago was wonderful!!! Last night, we went again with some family members from out of town and it was horrific! The food was bad, no other way to put it. The brisket was dry and chewy, not moist. The beans were dry, pasty and had no flavor. The corn was bland. I want this business to succeed. We need this type of food in downtown Chandler. I don't know what happened to the kitchen staff but it needs to be fixed pronto.

Went for dinner around 6pm on a Friday night. Was pretty empty inside. You order at the counter, cafeteria style. We ordered the 4 meat platter and chose brisket, pulled pork, cheddar jalapeño sausage, and st louis style ribs. For sides, we got mac & cheese and bacon potato salad. They also give you a piece of corn bread. They weighed every item to make sure we were given no more meat than we were supposed to have (this process took an awkwardly long amount of time). Once we got our plate, we had to tell the cashier every item we chose (on the tray sitting in front of him). We paid and found a table outside. The brisket was good, very tender. Although it got cold very quickly (likely due to the slow service at the counter). After trying this, we were pleasantly surprised and excited. The pulled pork was underwhelming. The ribs were had a flavor we didn't love, but they were fine overall. The sausage was decent but nothing special. As for the sides, the mac & cheese has a kick to it. Which was not advertised anywhere so I was disappointed by this. The potato salad was their second best item, behind the brisket. The corn bread was free, thank god. I would have been disappointed had we paid for it. The restaurant ambiance itself is great. They also had live music being set up as we left. Overall, the food was below average, but the restaurant aesthetic itself has a charm to it.

A Must-Visit BBQ Haven in Downtown Chandler! What an amazing BBQ spot in downtown Chandler! Back Alley BBQ brings chef-driven Southern barbecue with a bold Southwestern twist that's simply unbeatable. From the moment you walk in, you'll notice how impeccably clean the place is - spotless tables, a well-organized counter, and an inviting vibe that makes you feel right at home. The servers are great: friendly, efficient, and always ready with recommendations. They make the whole experience feel personal and fun, whether you're a BBQ newbie or a seasoned pro. And the food? Absolutely amazing! The smoked meats are tender, juicy, and packed with flavor - think award-worthy pulled pork, brisket with just the right smokiness, and sides like creamy mac 'n' cheese or zesty elote that elevate every bite. Pair it with their house sauces for an extra kick. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by - it's the kind of spot that'll have you planning your next visit before you leave!

This was an amazing experience! We were in the area taking pictures and the smell is what led to me looking up what was around. I can say I made the right choice stopping in. We went in on a Sunday shortly after opening. They have plenty of parking in the back as it's right next to a parking garage. We walked in and were immediately greeted with a warm welcome. The employees were all super nice and helpful. They have a pretty straight forward menu. We got the 4 meat sampler and a half rack of ribs to share. All the food was amazing. The ribs were full of flavor, the brisket was perfectly cooked with good char and still juicy, pulled pork was amazing and the jalapeño sausage was amazing with the good BBQ sauce. Their spicy and regular BBQ sauces are also amazing. We could not decide which ones we liked best. The smoked turkey was a bit dry but good flavor. The cornbread was amazing, and the Mack and cheese and cole slaw were also a hit and all the fixings paired well with the meats. We also got a hot honey cheesecake and enjoyed it later that night and it was to die for! The restaurant has plenty of seating with a nice patio in the back next to their smokers! The smell of this place is amazing and they also have weekend specials and live music. Definitely an awesome spot! I think I may have found my go to BBQ spot.

I stopped by Caldwell County BBQ for dinner on a Saturday evening. Located in Gilbert, I found…read morestreet parking right in front of the restaurant despite it being quite busy. I'll preface this review by saying I have very high standards when it comes to BBQ. I am from Houston after all. Caldwell County BBQ very much lived up to the hype. It's no surprise their reviews are so good. Ambiance (5/5): Caldwell County BBQ serves Texas-style BBQ. I felt right at home. There's a lot of Texan decor and the sort of ambiance you would expect at a BBQ joint. It's a spacious restaurant with plenty of seating outside and a decent amount of seating inside. We sat inside. One of the things they do well is keeping the A/C blasting both indoors and outdoors (while you're likely going to wait in line) along with misters. Definitely something you need in Phoenix! Service (4/5): I hate waiting in line. Though it's not unusual at popular BBQ spots, I still wish places like this would hire a couple of more people to make the line move faster (or even completely eliminate the lines). We probably waited in line for about 20 minutes. They have a water cooler along the route, but it was all out. Something the staff should check on a little more frequently. With all this being said, Caldwell County is well worth the wait. Drinks (5/5): Whenever I'm at a BBQ joint, I'm looking for sweet tea. Which they have here. Plus your standard assortment of soft drinks and alcohol, with a focus on beer. Food (5/5): BBQ joints typically have you pay by weight or by plates (one meat, two meats, three meats, etc.). Caldwell does it by the pound unless you go with a sandwich, loaded baked potato, etc. What's nice is they also have a family pack for 4 which comes with brisket, pulled pork, and your choice of ribs, sausage, or one other protein which is escaping me. Plus two large pint-size sides. We rolled with this option as it's a good deal (brisket, pulled pork, and St. Louis style ribs with corn casserole and mac and cheese). White bread, pickles, onions, and jalapenos are available free of charge. There are three BBQ sauces at each table: their classic BBQ, spicy, and AZ gold). We also added a quarter pound of the AZ burnt ends. Man, these are some quality meats. Brisket is the true test of Texas BBQ and the shining star. The brisket here isn't the best I've ever had but it's quite respectable. The sweet and spicy AZ burnt ends were delicious too. The ribs were tender and had a nice sweet glaze on them. The pulled pork was my least favorite, but still quite good. The sides are solid, though they could be a bit better. The mac and cheese was too peppery for my taste and the corn casserole was too sweet. Like pretty much all craft BBQ these days, Caldwell County BBQ isn't cheap. But the quality is there. This is the type of place that I would come back to again and again. They also have a location in Peoria though this one is the original. And I hear they don't run out of meats as other BBQ joints do (especially in Texas). That's a big plus! It's always a bummer when a BBQ joint is out of something you want. If you haven't been to Caldwell County BBQ, change that quick. Yeehaw!

Parking 5/5 We arrived at 6 pm and took one of the last spots in the back. Service 10/5 Celebration arrangements were done by my neighbors amazing daughter who ordered the Full Monte sampler which included generous portions of protein, all the sides and drinks. Seating 15/5 Anyone familiar with Caldwells business model knows this is a wait inline to order, move over to the cashier then search for seatings which can be challenging at best during peak lunch & dinner hours. In our case the Caldwell's manager Torrin personally re-arranged tables so our group could be seated together and included one table for all the food and gifts. Food 10/5 This rating recognizes Caldwell's BBQ is wildly popular. Pushing it higher for this experience was how the food was delivered to the party. Once our party of 30 were seated together, four + large variety platters of protein, sides and fountain beverages were placed on a serving table family style. Atmosphere 5/5 The back patio was our celebration location and it was filling up quickly and we gathered for the celebration. During the course of our visit we enjoyed the transition from daylight to evening where the atmosphere of the back patio began to soften with a wonderful span of string patio lighting for outdoor ambiance. This quickly became an extremely fun place to move table to table visiting with everyone. My neighbors family (11 siblings, 9 stateside) are Doctors and Nurses who served in the VA Hospitals throughout the US and their families who have treated me as family over the years. What a beautiful family and culture. Caldwell's staff To Torrin. Malissa our birthday Girl's daughter made all the arrangements and surprise us with a banquet; and you delivered big time for this celebration!m. From getting our food out to arranging tables to keep our large group together is truly amazing! The entire Caldwell team has our sincere gratitude. As always, we love the BBQ here...we typically get the moist brisket, the smoked potatoes, the three bean salad...today I also added a couple of corns and their cole slaw. The food is always so good and we find very consistent. Here's where the customer service outshined previous visits...when I got there and started to order our to-go dinner, I was told the potatoes were gone and they were making more but it would be about 20-30 minutes before they were ready. I was told that someone previously had come in an purchased 30 potatoes, which I will always say...if you are going to order something that large from a restaurant, please be considerate and pre-order so they are prepared. You walking in and ordering that big of an order put the people behind you without some of their choices. No worries today...it's Mom's Day and I wasn't going to sway from getting BBQ for our dinner. I had some other things to do so left the store to take care of other business. Once back home (we live fairly close to the store), I called to ask if the potatoes were ready and after being placed on a brief hold, was told they had some ready but they were flying out the door! The young lady asked me if I wanted to place an order over the phone and decided to do that just so I could be sure we had their most wonderful smoked potatoes. I drove down to pick up our order and was met with some of the best staff, who laughed with me about the situation. They agreed about people calling beforehand when wanting that much food, apparently they also got about 30 lbs of meat as well. It's all good and we will be back when we need our Rudy's fix!

The pork lion rib tasted like a smoked neck bone I was disappointed there. The baby back was a little better. I tried both sauces and prefer the sissy sauce. Not the best taste for me. You order at the counter, and then you either get a seat number and choose a seat or wait at the counter for pick up. There was a decent sized menu of bbq options, sides and drinks. The dessert display was filled with what looked to be DELECTABLE goodies! :) (this is what I'd try when I come back, FOR SURE!). I ordered the double meat platter with a half rack of ribs and brisket. The sides were chose were baked beans and Mac and cheese. The platter came with the two rolls, as well. This was to share with one other person. I'd say the ribs were okay, not my favorite! The brisket, on the other hand, had a PERFECT Smokey taste. The Mac and cheese was okay and so were the baked beans (they were super sweet, if that's what you're going for!). Add the regular bbq sauce on the side for dipping and you've got a tasty meal! After dining, we were able to go around the antique shop in the back. It was HUGE! And it kept GOING AND GOING! There here vendors of all sorts from furniture to home goods to jewelry to clothes/shoes. There's a little something for everyone here! There was even a hidden (I guess not hidden if you know about it), second hand, vintage clothing store in the very back. I didn't walk out with anything, but it was as worth the window shopping! The exit was through the antique shop near the cash wrap. Overall, the experience was lovely. The food was in the mid range for me, but I'd come back for dessert and the shopping.
