Found this hidden gem and had a great experience! They even gave me free fries just for mentioning I found them on Instagram--definitely a nice bonus. As a vegetarian, I was happy to see plenty of sides to choose from, and they did not disappoint. The mac and cheese and potato salad were both solid (7/10), while the rice and beans stood out at an 8/10--smoky, flavorful, and really satisfying. I can only imagine how well everything would pair with their meats. The fries (on the house!) were perfectly cooked and well-seasoned. And the BBQ chipotle spicy sauce? Easily the highlight--rich BBQ flavor with a great kick of heat. Service was excellent--ask for Tom--and the ambiance was casual but lively. Let me preface this by saying, this was my first time at Tom's BBQ. There was an older gentleman at the register. Not the friendliest. I came in the 6 o'clock hour. I walked in and began looking at what I know now is the lunch menu. He directed me to the main menu. I smiled and stated how it was my first time. He retorted by advising how long Tom's been in business and possibly at that location. Not sure if he took offense that I (a non-Arizona native) have never been. I knew then, that perhaps I wouldn't be back. My order: 3 meat combo w/ red beans and rice and green beans, peach cobbler, and a canned peach tea. When I ordered the peach cobbler, I was directed to grab a decent size syrofoam container out of the cooler. He advised that I take it home and warm it up. I advised that that was the plan as I had butter pecan ice cream waiting. I noticed that the he added a small container of crumbles. I asked if that was supposed to be the crust. I then asked if the "peach cobbler" was just the peaches. There was a woman who poked her head out and said yes and asked if I wanted her to warm it up. I declined. The gentleman insisted that it was peach cobbler adding that,"it's not your grannie [or grandmothers], but it's peach cobbler". I picked up the container to open it. The gentlemen went to grab it from my hand exclaiming that I had to pay for it first. I advised that I would pay for it even if that means I would have to throw it in the trash. Right then, I knew that today's visit would indeed be my last. When it comes to peach cobbler, one shouldn't cut corners. There are too many wonderful soul food places and bbq places that have pretty good peach cobbler in the U.S. for you not to have a half decent peach cobbler on your menu. I was so disgusted with the service (let alone the peach cobbler), I didn't try the food. I gave it away. I wish I would have read the reviews first. I could have saved $39.32. I'm usually not one to leave a review but after today I felt compelled to write this one. The person who took my order was just blatantly rude and when confronted about the mistake they made about the order (for here or to go) was rude and verbatim told me "so you changed your mind" after I repeated "to go" to him. Upon receiving my order and opening it at home, I realized that he further had messed up the order by mixing up bread rolls for corn bread which costed me extra. Overall the food wasn't good and the service was not welcoming. If you are considering BBQ there are much better places to dine at. read more

The Brisket was good and even better with their BBQ Sauce - it goes perfectly with their Brisket. The Red Beans & Rice are lightly spiced and pretty good. My Wife had Toms BBQ Salad, with Chicken, and it was very tasty. The lady behind the counter is Awesome, very polite, and provided excellent customer service. She earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for going 'above-n-beyond' the norm. For our Dinner on Friday, I had the Fried Catfish with Potato Salad and Red Beans & Rice. The Catfish is very Tasty with a nice light crunch on the breading. Their Creamy Potato Salad is very Tastylicious. Again, the Red Beans & Rice are the right thing to enjoy with anything they serve. My Wife had the Toms BBQ Salad with Pork this time, and it was really good. She loved the Pork. Nancys Grandson, Michael, ordered a Burger, don't know what one, but he said it was very Tasty. Tom's is an excellent spot for Friday fish. I've been going there for many years and the Fish Dinner Friday Special is the meal to have. You can choose from the White or Catfish and both are great. The fries and hush puppies that come with the meal are solid and the Jalapeno Mac N' Cheese is a tasty side. Their menu is extensive and my wife loves the brisket loaded baked potato. Their spicy house made BBQ sauce is the standout. It's one of my favorite sauces and they serve it warm. Lastly, Billie is THE star of the show. Food was decent service was lacking. We went in and were told to seat ourselves. We sat on the patio. After sitting out there for a bit we were given menus and water. The waitress asked if we were ready. We said we needed a few minutes. After 15-20 minutes I walked in and ordered at the counter. Took a bit to get our food. I had to get up and get my own water refill. Our food was delivered and that was the second and last time anyone came to our table. After eating we cleared the table and went up to the counter to pay. For a sit down restaurant the service was lacking. It was busy and only two people serving. We got the Burnet ends, and they are fantastic and good pieces of meat. We also got the sliced brisket, which was not fatty at all and cut in great pieces. A fish and shrimp meal as one of our groups' food. The fish was nicely cooked and lightly breaded with great flavor. The shrimp were a good size. A burger was ordered and it was great! I feel like I've driven past this place for years and I finally decided to see what it was about. The woman managing the front was so kind and helpful. She provided great recommendations. I didn't know what to try as this is Chicago-based BBQ. I decided to get pulled pork, coleslaw, and potato salad. This BBQ spot only has two different sauces on hand so and I wasn't crazy about either of them (both were. very mild). First time at Tom's! I had a craving for BBQ and decided to stop in for lunch. The place had 2 other patrons and I had to initiate a greeting with the lady up front taking orders. I got the impression that she was not a fan of the food herself because I told her I was in the mood for bbq chicken and I asked for spicy bbq sauce. I spent $23 for the smoked bbq breast with 2 sides and a desert. The bbq smoked breast had zero smoke taste to it... infact it taste like they boiled the chicken breast versus smoked it...and the bbq sauce was put on like ketchup... the mac and cheese is by far the worst I have ever paid for. The sauce wasn't good, I forced myself to eat half and ended up throwing it away. We also got the 3 meat dinner plate. The burnt ends were very "eh", the brisket was mediocre, the only good thing was the link which was probably not made in house. The Mac n cheese was underwhelming, to say the least. We also had such an awkward time in there while ordering and waiting for our food. The lady tending to us had her child or grandchild with her who she kept scolding in front of us SO loudly, it was uncomfortable. She wasn't very nice.
