Toms BBQ Salad - with Pork -
Ron M.

TOMS BBQ - Tempe, AZ We were at Tom's BBQ for Lunch and also for Dinner. For Lunch I ordered the Brisket Plate with Red Beans & Rice. The Brisket was good and even better with their BBQ Sauce - it goes perfectly with their Brisket. The Red Beans & Rice are lightly spiced and pretty good. My Wife had Toms BBQ Salad, with Chicken, and it was very tasty. The lady behind the counter is Awesome, very polite, and provided excellent customer service. She earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for going 'above-n-beyond' the norm. For our Dinner on Friday, I had the Fried Catfish with Potato Salad and Red Beans & Rice. The Catfish is very Tasty with a nice light crunch on the breading. Their Creamy Potato Salad is very Tastylicious. Again, the Red Beans & Rice are the right thing to enjoy with anything they serve. My Wife had the Toms BBQ Salad with Pork this time, and it was really good. She loved the Pork. Nancys Grandson, Michael, ordered a Burger, don't know what one, but he said it was very Tasty. He also loved the Curley Fries. Nice and crispy. Toms BBQ is a good place to enjoy some of whatever they have, and they offer a lot of choices.

Rib tips with corn and mashed potatoes

After running the Mesa Marathon, I drove down here to Tempe to get lunch. Since they specialized in Chicago style food, I ordered their rib tips with corn and mashed potatoes as my 2 sides. It was not bad, but the place was pretty dead for lunch. There was only one other customer in there during my visit.

Food was decent service was lacking. We went in and were told to seat ourselves. We sat on the patio. After sitting out there for a bit we were given menus and water. The waitress asked if we were ready. We said we needed a few minutes. After 15-20 minutes I walked in and ordered at the counter. Took a bit to get our food. I had to get up and get my own water refill. Our food was delivered and that was the second and last time anyone came to our table. After eating we cleared the table and went up to the counter to pay. For a sit down restaurant the service was lacking. It was busy and only two people serving. I would be wiling to try it again at some point.

It wasn't crowded on the Saturday night and I am not sure why. The service was stellar and their meats were pretty darn good. Value for the money seemed to be pretty fair and down right inexpensive when compared to other opportunities within an eight mile radius. We will be back to Tom's the next time we want some BBQ

3 meat combo with brisket, rib tips, spicy hot link. mac & cheese and hand - cut french fries sides.

Smelled amazing walking into the door. The lovely lady at the counter was very welcoming. Ordered a 3 meat plate. Wasn't disappointed. Brisket was perfectly cooked, tender, got a real nice flavor that goes tremendous with their bbq sauce. The rib tips were super tender. Hot link had the perfect amount of kick with a real nice snap! Certainly worth the price as it was allot of food. The Mac and cheese was super creamy, really nice! Ate a French fry before I left (got this to go as I live across the street) and was pleasantly surprised by the freshness. Very epic meal! Very happy I decided on this and will be a regular here.

The food and service were amazing. It wasn't very busy and the food came quick. ordered the loaded baked potato and I've never seen a potato so HUGE before. The sauce it came with was amazing as well. I highly recommend coming by.

I was so loud about it and nobody shamed me :) Our waitress was very nice and accommodated everything I asked about/for and obviously the food was literally everything I wanted AND more! Who wouldn't want $6 ribs with their entree that ALREADY includes dessert?!?!? I had no room so it's not in the picture but I got the special new midnight crumble! With ice cream to go!

First the girl at the hostess stand couldn't have looked more miserable. Not a hi, not a welcome nothing. She just saw there was four of us and slowly grabbed four menus and waited for someone to walk us to the table. That guy didn't address us at all and just looked at us with a dead face and started walking toward some tables. He then stood between two empty tables and looked at us with a blank stare like we should know what one to sit in. We picked one. He dropped the menus on the table and walked away. I eat out a lot and have never had an experience like that. Everyone that we encountered there seemed miserable. Our server was pretty good and was helpful. Ok I am willing to trade bad service with awesome food!! But this was bad. This is a photo of my 9 0z $32 brisket. It's gray!! No smoke ring no bark it seriously tasted like they boiled it. Not tender at all, It was just bad. Not to mention it was barely warm. But even if it was heated up it wouldn't have been good. It actually looks better in the picture than real life. My wife said her ribs were ok but hardly warm. Best thing we tasted was the kids mac n cheese. I really hate writing this cause I used to love this place. if you are going to treat my family like crap at least give us good food. You don't get to do both.

My loyal Food Patrol of regular observers know we spent some days in Sunnyslope tending to family business. Little Miss BBQ was a refueling stop. The last time we stopped in for a meal there was no meal. The goods were gone, eaten by an eager, hungry, horde. March 31, 2026 at 3 p.m. They were open, fully stocked. 1962 was the year my Dad was sent to Oklahoma to teach Air Forces from across the globe how to keep the engines of their nuke-tipped Intercontinental Ballistic Missles prepped and ready in case Boom Moment arrived. We lived to the south in Vernon, Texas where I learned the culinary tradition of Moon Pies and RC Cola, or Dr. Pepper. I also had my first meal of Texas Bar B Que. That set my taste for BBQ Brisket and BBQ beans; sweet, smoky and tender. I've since dined in Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Abilene and Merkel. We hit Mr. B's fabulously delicious BBQ near Harper's Ferry, VA. Another year we went on to BBQ in St Louis; Jonesboro, Arkansas; and Memphis, Tennesee. Locally, Bobby Q, My Mother's, TexAz and others I cannot remember. A BBQ universe of flavor, texture, and squirt-on supplemental sauces. BBQ is a very personal pitmaster production, with very personal diner's tastes. The BBQ firing squad has me against a wall, asking me if I want a smoked rib before I die for not writing much about Little Miss BBQ. I'll take the BBQ shack between Merkel and Blair, Texas. I kept going back by myself, yhen with groups of people, always returning in my memory List of BBQ Favorites. That Hole on the Plains and the town of my BBQ initiation, Vernon. Little Miss BBQ is a very cool place. It is worth a visit for the architecture alone. The pits are out the window as you enter the doors and hook a left to the BBQ ride crowd control railing. Menu is on the wall, on at least two spots. The northwest corner has a takeout counter. We ordered brisket sandwich and beans. The brisket was further flavored choosing one or more of the three sauces: sweet hot ish BBQ, sweet mustard sauce and one more flavor. My top taste of the meal was prickly pear lemonade. Going back for a refill I found 2/3 lemonade and 1/3 prickly pear made my perfect BBQ beverage. The peppery beans with another serving of pulled meat mixed in improved on my palate with sweet sauce added. The mustard sauce was recommended for our sandwich. It was a good addition. Will the family return here to dine? I'll write another review when we come back.
