O.M.G. The perfect opportunity to go whole hog... First of all, I rarely care for the interior of most Phoenix restaurants, but this restaurant is magnificent. Comfortable, sorta on the dark side. Classy. As I was not driving today, I decided to try their smoked Old Fashioned. Excellent -- and the dark cherries they use are the perfect addition to the cocktail. (The glass is coated with smoke from a smoldering piece of pecan wood, and the cocktail was served with a cloud of smoke under a coaster covering the glass.) The pig sickles ( ribs) were the perfect chance to make a pig of myself. Had the two meat plate, pig sickles and barbecued pulled chicken, If you like corn, you must have the side of corn with your dinner. The barbecue beans were delicious. Our server did a magnificent job tending to our drinks, appetizer, and food orders -- despite being very busy (the place was packed! -- and seemed like she was in constant motion. Very nice individual who liked la Prices? It was expensive, but the best barbecue always is. Eating isn't cheap. It was well worth every dollar spent. All in all, it was a perfect dinner. So, showed up at 3:55 pm on 5/11. Sat on the patio. We were there for happy hour my friend had showed up at 3:40. Our server was initially very attentive and got him his wine and me my beer. This is where the service fell apart. The server never came back This is May in Phoenix. If the server was overloaded with other tables we could understand. This was not the case. There were 3 other patrons in the restaurant. All the servers and other employees were at the hostess stand and there were 4 of them. A bartender could tell visually that our drinks at that point were almost empty. However, we were not her customers Fair enough! However, at 4:15 pm I would expect our server to have come back to check on us. Also, not begrudging employees working double shifts. But, 2 other employees eating wings in the bar. All things forgiven if I had gotten decent service. I was going to eat dinner. But, given the service climate. I decided to cut my losses and pay for my beverages and leave . I would have commented to the Manager on duty if one has been visible. I have been to other locations of BobbyQ's and had a great experience. It's just a shame the employee's and management at this location don't care. Even though this location is only 3.5 miles from my house. I doubt I will be back. Sometimes the national hype of a place can lead you to believe a place isn't worth your time. I know most of us want that small mom and pop place support local and that's a great aspiration to have, keep supporting local and small business. Just don't forget about consistent great places either they need our support as well. Plenty of seating as this place is huge but especially in the bar area where happy hour runs to 6pm. Ordered a few drinks from Kat and a plate to split. The food was promptly served and the drinks were delicious. Portions were plenty to split and enjoy some time hanging out away from our busy schedules for about an hour with no rush from the staff. Perfectly seasoned and cooked prime rib delicious twice baked potato and broccoli. My college baseball teammates and I are making it a tradition to do a reunion trip to Phoenix every year for Spring Training, and Bobby Q's is firmly a part of that tradition. Been here back to back years now and it has not disappointed one bit! We make a reservation in advance for our big party of 12-14 and the wait staff handles us exceptionally well. Big tables to accommodate all of us, efficient order taking and delivery, and always on top of their game with the complimentary goodies (cornbread, donuts for dessert, and two free brownies + ice cream for the two birthday boys)! I was excited to try Bobby Q with an average 4.5 star rating and 5k+ reviews. Four of us had lunch here on Friday and were able to take advantage of the lunch menu they offer on weekdays from 11-3. During lunch, they also offer the full dining menu. We started off with the famous Q rolls: the meat was salty but the "roll" wrapping was light and crispy. I liked it paired with the chipotle ranch which added a creamy kick and balanced it out. Bob's salad (small) was a good portion size and easily shareable. There was a generous amount of chopped chicken breast but it was dry. The rib tips were also dry, stringy and salty. Not a lot of meat on those. The St. Louis spare ribs (really meaty!) were a lot more moist, but were salty as well. Fries also super salty. The side of corn was ok and so was the pecan coleslaw. Recently hub and I stopped in for food to go. We've always had great experiences at BQ, and this time decided to order its 8 oz. prime rib to split ; however, when we returned home, I was shocked and infuriated that each half consisted of fat leaving around 6 oz. of beef. See photo of my half. I realize everyone in retail has raised their prices but this was robbery. With tip our meal was $44.22 including tip. There's nothing super special about the ambiance. Our server at the bar was friendly but after this experience we won't be heading back there for any time forever. I f we had eaten at the restaurant I would've returned the prime rib. Shame on you for taking advantage of people currently struggling with high prices. They advertise themselves as being the world's best bbq. I'm not sure how that happened or if it ever did. I love bbq and I have sampled bbq at a lot of places so I feel my opinion comes from experience. I realize that opinions can be subjective because of different tastebuds and preferences. The building is nice and there is ample parking. We were greeted as we walked in and seated almost as quickly. Our server was very nice and didn't hurry us while we perused the menu. Two of us ordered brisket sandwiches and one in our party ordered a pulled pork sandwich. The brisket for me was rather dry and the other person in our party who ordered thought his was more moist. The one sauce they provided wasn't to my liking. I found out later that my server should have offered another sauce option but failed to do so. So I ate a dry beef brisket sandwich with no sauce. Everyone agreed that it was average bbq and unanimously we agreed the prices were too high. With higher prices comes higher expectations for quality and or quantity. It was a nice place, very noisy, service was good, food was average and prices were high. Food: Visiting my sister and decided to try Bobby Qs. I found the food to be ok. I'd give it a 7/10. I ordered the Tri Tip which tasted like it had been baked in an oven and maybe smoked afterwards to add a little of the smoke flavor but definitely to cooked on a real BBQ grill. The mac and cheese tasted like garden variety boxed mac and cheese and kinda hard to mess up the mashed potatoes. Think every fast food BBQ place you have ever visited. They are ok if you are not a foodie and your thoughts of food are "fills a hole" but if you are a real food and looking for authentic BBQ then this is not for you. Open space, good smell of smoked meats in the place. The service was fast and friendly and you get free doughnuts are the end of your meal. My meal was kind of hit and miss. I gave it a four star review because it is not the best BBQ I've ever had as it advertises itself to be but Bobby Q is a very, very good food experience. I really enjoyed the St Louis ribs. They are sweet, moist, delicious, fall off the bone tender and is just what the doctor ordered. Craving some good BBQ and passed by this place on the freeway. Went in and immediately was shocked at how much space they have inside. They cater so its understandable that they also manage big parties inside. In fact the table behind us had like 17 people Our server was very kind and on it! We got brisket tacos and a pulled pork sandwich. My wife enjoyed her meal but did think the brisket was dry even with sauce and even some lime. The tortillas were also very flimsy and would probably hold better getting time on a grill. She was in love with the cornbread though and she doesn't usually reach for it!! For the pulled pork.. it was okay. The tenderness was there but the bun soaked so much of butter oil? Not sure.. and all of it at the bottom got moist and fell apart. He knew the menu well, made helpful suggestions based on taste, kept my drinks on point, and checked in at the right times to make sure I had everything I needed. Was in phoenix for work trips and came here a few times for take out and the chicken was delicious! I am on an animal based diet and only eat meat and fruit. Vibe was great--modern steakhouse feel with a relaxed atmosphere. Music was low, which I love. Seating felt a little awkward if you're someone who likes to people-watch, but not a dealbreaker. He stayed on top of things, and drinks came out quickly and were mostly really well made. Spicy Mango Margarita - Jalapeño-infused tequila, lime, agave, mango, Tajín rim. Tastes just like a mangonada. The jalapeño tequila gives it a nice back burn that leaves your lips tingling. Personally, I'd double the spice and cut the sweetness a bit, but overall, a fun drink. Blue Rose Lemonade - Vodka, blueberry-rosemary syrup, lemonade. Refreshing and balanced--sweet without being too much, with a nice tart finish. The rosemary adds a surprising twist that really works. Coconut Lime Mojito - Bacardi, coconut purée, lime, mint, soda. Honestly? I want to be drinking this on a beach. Light, tropical, and the mint hits just right with every sip. Easily one of my favorites of the night. Bobby's Mule - Tequila, lime, ginger beer, honey vanilla syrup. Lighter than your usual mule. Not a ton of ginger bite, but the honey-vanilla smooths it out in a nice way. Raspberry Sangria - Fruity, easy to drink, nothing crazy but enjoyable. Q-Rolls - Crispy on the outside, packed with tender smoked brisket inside. The chipotle ranch was a great match--savory, smoky, and creamy. The BBQ sauce on the side though? Way too sweet and flat. Gave serious bottled sauce energy, like something off a grocery store shelf. Now for the real disappointment: the BBQ. We ordered the three meat combo--jumbo beef ribs, brisket, pulled pork--with a side of spicy sausage, mac & cheese, and ranch-style beans. I've had BBQ all over the country, and I really wanted to like this, but it was a hard miss. Everything came drenched in sauce. Not good sauce. It tasted cheap and cloyingly sweet--worse than KC Masterpiece, and that's saying something. Please, leave it on the side. I want to taste the actual meat, not fight through a layer of sugar glaze. The pulled pork was decent, probably the best of the bunch, but again--completely drowned in sauce. The brisket looked beautiful and juicy when it hit the table, but three bites in, it turned dry and tough. The beef ribs were massive but completely smothered, making them hard to eat without commuting to a full face scrub in the restroom. I tried to wrench off a bite with a fork, and it was just...fatty in the worst way. Not that melt-in-your-mouth BBQ fat, more like thick, greasy film-in-your-mouth fat. The mac was super cheesy (which I don't mind), but completely unseasoned. No salt, no pepper, no depth. The ranch beans were sweet, which was confusing--when I hear "ranch beans" I expect something smoky or savory. This just didn't work. There was also no smoke ring, no dry rub, no clear style of BBQ. I'm not sure what direction they were going for, but it fell flat across the board. For "smoking the meat for 22 hours", as Jaden informed us they do, this ain't it. The only saving grace was how well Jaden and Romi (the manager) handled it when we sent food back. Super professional and understanding, no awkwardness at all. Service, drinks, and the Q-rolls were solid--but the food overall was a letdown. Would I come back? This was already their second chance after an underwhelming experience at the Biltmore location. The only reason I might give them another shot would be to try a steak--but even that's a stretch at this point. Overall: 2/5. While prices have gone up, and according to some, portion size have been diminished, well that's all part of shrinkflation. We still frequent them. My server, Jack was such a helpful and kind person. He not only gave us some history on Bobby Q's but also provided respectful suggestions. He was lovely with my young kids by acknowledging them directly and making them feel welcomed. We did reserve online, which was super easy to book online and made the check-in easy once we arrived. Once we ordered, our meal took less than 10 minutes to arrive and Jack was super attentive with us and making sure we had everything we needed. I ordered the family style meal with 2 types of ribs and pulled chicken, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes with gravy on the side, and broccoli. Everything was a 10/10! Full of flavor and perfectly seasoned. The complimentary corn bread was a unique touch to start the meal with creamy butter to top it off. And to end it all, we were served complimentary donuts that were better than the famous SF pier 39 donuts; Soft and warm with a cinnamon sugar coating. We visited on a Sunday evening around 6:30 PM, and the place was already buzzing, parking was a bit of a challenge with a full lot, but that's usually a good sign. As soon as we walked in, we were warmly greeted by the host and seated right away. Our server quickly came over, asked if it was our first visit, and gave us a great rundown of the menu. She highly recommended the Q Rolls, and we're glad she did. They were a hit. We ordered the Q Rolls, a two-meat plate with ribs and brisket, and the Smokehouse Burger. The ribs were tender, juicy, and generously sauced. Brisket can be tough to get right, and while it wasn't the standout, it was still well done. The Smokehouse Burger was the highlight, perfectly juicy with just the right balance of sauce and a great meat-to-bun ratio. The crispy onions added a satisfying crunch. I've already been telling friends and family to check this place out just for that burger. To top it off, we were surprised with complimentary cornbread and donuts--such a nice touch and both were delicious. The restaurant had a warm, rustic vibe and was packed with energy.
