For more than six years, working in the airline industry has given us the opportunity to travel across the country and experience some incredible BBQ. We've developed favorites in several cities, particularly when it comes to authentic Texas-style BBQ. Since moving to Arizona, we've enjoyed exploring the local BBQ scene, including Little Miss BBQ. However, after our first visit to Caldwell County BBQ, we can confidently say we've found our new local favorite! From the moment we walked through the door, the experience was exceptional. We were greeted by Mason, who immediately made us feel welcome. When he learned it was our first visit, he took the time to explain the ordering process, describe the different meats, and share his personal recommendations. Even as the line grew behind us, he never made us feel rushed. He treated us as though we were the only guests there. Mason offered samples of the beef rib, brisket, and sausage, all of which were outstanding. He genuinely wanted us to experience the flavors before ordering. He explained that everything is served à la carte and prepared fresh daily. His enthusiasm was especially noticeable when describing the banana pudding, made fresh at 5 a.m. with bananas, homemade custard, and smoked vanilla beans. That attention to detail immediately impressed us. We ordered a pound of brisket, pulled pork and brisket sliders, green chile mac and cheese, corn casserole, pinto beans, and two absolutely massive beef ribs served with house-made chimichurri. The beef ribs were phenomenal! Incredibly tender, flavorful, and slightly sweeter than the brisket, they were easily among the best we've ever had. The chimichurri was equally impressive, bursting with fresh herbs and peppers. We honestly could have put it on everything! The green chile mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy, with just enough chile flavor without overwhelming heat. The corn casserole was rich, thick, and buttery, while the pinto beans were perfectly tender with a subtle smokiness that wasn't buried under excessive seasoning. The brisket had beautiful bark, exceptional flavor, and was incredibly juicy without relying on excessive fat. The sliders, served on salted pretzel buns, may have been small enough to fit in your palm, but they were generously packed with meat. Don't underestimate them! For dessert, we enjoyed the banana pudding and sheet cake. The pudding was perfectly balanced without being overly sweet. Learning that the vanilla beans are smoked and the wafers are buttered, baked, and layered into the pudding made us appreciate it even more. The sheet cake featured a tender layer of cake topped with rich fudge frosting and walnuts. Both were a wonderful ending to an incredible meal. But as exceptional as the food was, what truly set Caldwell County apart was the hospitality. Mason made a point to check on us during our meal, genuinely interested in hearing about our experience. That simple gesture meant a great deal. Throughout our visit, it was obvious that the entire team takes tremendous pride not only in the quality of their food but also in how they treat their guests. There is a meaningful difference between serving customers and making people feel genuinely valued. Caldwell County understands that difference. Every interaction felt personal, sincere, and unhurried. We never felt like another transaction or simply the next people in line. We felt appreciated, and that is something we'll remember long after the meal. In fact, before we had even finished eating, we were already telling family, friends, and fellow BBQ enthusiasts about our experience! Having enjoyed BBQ throughout the country, we can confidently place Caldwell County among our absolute favorites. Love coming here!! I had some family come to town so we decided to stop by here for lunch. A couple of them got the bbq salad with brisket. I split 1/2 lbs brisket and a sausage link. We got a pint of corn casserole and an individual size of mac & cheese. Everything was so good!!! I love the sides here. They don't sound like anything special but they're super tasty. The meat is really good, juicy, and flavorful. The parking lot was full but there wasn't really a wait once we got inside to order. You order at the counter and they prepare your tray as you go down the line. For a group of 5, the total was only $75 which is not bad! We each placed our orders. My friend & her man ordered the Family of 4 meal, which looked & smelled so good! They ate & took the rest home to have leftovers. My other friend & I both got a loaded baked potato with sausage, plus she got a side of cole slaw with hers. I knew as big as their potatoes are that I'd eat half & take the rest home, so I only got the potato. So damn good! I love that Coke products are served here. You know me & my Coke Zero! My friends come here enough that the owner, Mason, knows them well. Mason is awesome & so is his crew. On Sunday, 8/16, my friend was craving BBQ and invited me. I am a new resident of Arizona of one year and I'm still exploring many places and things. Let me say that this place did NOT disappoint whatsoever. The (lean) brisket is so delicious! I hadn't had a baked potato in a very long time and that, too, was delicious. This was our first experience at Caldwell County BBQ. We are in town from Vegas visiting family and they highly recommended this spot! So our expectations, of course, were very high! Upon entry they have a cold water station and a menu. The menu is very extensive and everything sounds amazing! We wanted brisket, sausage, and mac & cheese. You order at the counter and they make everything fresh as you watch! It was an experience in itself. We passed the corn casserole and I said, oo that looks yummy! The gentleman, Ben, behind the counter asked if we wanted to try it first and gave us a sample. I was immediately hooked and ordered one of those as well! The family got sandwiches, mac & cheese & chili. Prices were ridiculously reasonable for all the food we got! Tasha was excellent and walked us through our insane order :) she was patient and kind with out crazy. The seating is both indoor and outdoor. Rustic picnic benches with umbrellas and misters! It really was a lovely atmosphere and an amazing meal! When I asked for a manager to let them know how wonderful our experience was he was kind and hyped up his employees, and thanked us for coming in. My husband and I just found our new neighborhood BBQ spot and we couldn't be happier! The brisket is succulent and flavorful, not to mention how delicious each homemade barbecue sauce is. The macaroni and cheese had an insane flavor profile, corn casserole has become a newfound favorite and the Texas sheet cake blew me away to a chocolatey heaven. The owner and staff members encompass that good ol southern hospitality. And the pitmaster Chad was kind enough to give us a tour of the pit and taught us a few things about Texas style BBQ. They have a small indoor area with tables with many more outside with misters. It was 112 today so we waited for an indoor table. I thought to myself, it must be really good as there were many people outside in the extreme heat to have lunch . 5/6/26 Today was my Neighbors 89th Birthday, the celebration was food for 30 people managed as Filipino family service. Parking 5/5 We arrived at 6 pm and took one of the last spots in the back. Seating 15/5 Anyone familiar with Caldwells business model knows this is a wait inline to order, move over to the cashier then search for seatings which can be challenging at best during peak lunch & dinner hours. In our case the Caldwell's manager Torrin personally re-arranged tables so our group could be seated together and included one table for all the food and gifts. Food 10/5 This rating recognizes Caldwell's BBQ is wildly popular. Pushing it higher for this experience was how the food was delivered to the party. Once our party of 30 were seated together, four + large variety platters of protein, sides and fountain beverages were placed on a serving table family style. Atmosphere 5/5 The back patio was our celebration location and it was filling up quickly and we gathered for the celebration. During the course of our visit we enjoyed the transition from daylight to evening where the atmosphere of the back patio began to soften with a wonderful span of string patio lighting for outdoor ambiance. This quickly became an extremely fun place to move table to table visiting with everyone. My neighbors family (11 siblings, 9 stateside) are Doctors and Nurses who served in the VA Hospitals throughout the US and their families who have treated me as family over the years. Amazing BBQ find in Gilbert and I had this place bookmarked for a while. They have huge smokers/pits in the back and you know it's legit. I ordered the pork ribs as it's one of my favorite things and it was so good, I had to stop myself from eating the full rack in one seating. They are not shy on the pepper so it has some heat. Sauces include house and AZ gold mustard base. They gave me a brisket sample while I was in line and it was so melt in your mouth. Huge seating area outside and they also have inside AC seating. I ended up getting a half a rack of pork ribs and 1 pound of beef ribs. $38 a pound even with 30% off is a little overpriced. They were good but they were not great but I don't think I'd buy them again probably not but thanks for allowing me to try them still great food still great service. I've had really bad BBQ in the past which turned me off of all BBQ for the longest time, but Caldwell Co. has officially changed my mind. The food portion here is generous and it's absolutely banging. Salad greens are fresh and very cleanly prepared. Just remember to be clear on what kind of meat you want (if you want the moist cuts, then ask for the moist cuts). There's plenty of outdoor seating in the beer garden area, and a couple of tables inside as well. If you park in the parking lot, you'll likely go through the outdoor seating area to get inside. But look for the sign on the siding to the left that shows you where to go. You have to circle around towards the front entrance where the line actually starts. Can't miss the big blackboard facing the front of the building. It'll go pretty quick -- folks behind the service counter work fast. We came during the day, but I hear it's really nice at night with all the Edison lights on. One day, I'll have to come visit again and check it out. I stopped by Caldwell County BBQ for dinner on a Saturday evening. Located in Gilbert, I found street parking right in front of the restaurant despite it being quite busy. I'll preface this review by saying I have very high standards when it comes to BBQ. I am from Houston after all. Caldwell County BBQ very much lived up to the hype. It's no surprise their reviews are so good. Ambiance (5/5): Caldwell County BBQ serves Texas-style BBQ. I felt right at home. There's a lot of Texan decor and the sort of ambiance you would expect at a BBQ joint. It's a spacious restaurant with plenty of seating outside and a decent amount of seating inside. We sat inside. One of the things they do well is keeping the A/C blasting both indoors and outdoors (while you're likely going to wait in line) along with misters. Definitely something you need in Phoenix! Service (4/5): I hate waiting in line. Though it's not unusual at popular BBQ spots, I still wish places like this would hire a couple of more people to make the line move faster (or even completely eliminate the lines). We probably waited in line for about 20 minutes. They have a water cooler along the route, but it was all out. Something the staff should check on a little more frequently. With all this being said, Caldwell County is well worth the wait. Drinks (5/5): Whenever I'm at a BBQ joint, I'm looking for sweet tea. Which they have here. Plus your standard assortment of soft drinks and alcohol, with a focus on beer. Food (5/5): BBQ joints typically have you pay by weight or by plates (one meat, two meats, three meats, etc.). Caldwell does it by the pound unless you go with a sandwich, loaded baked potato, etc. What's nice is they also have a family pack for 4 which comes with brisket, pulled pork, and your choice of ribs, sausage, or one other protein which is escaping me. Plus two large pint-size sides. We rolled with this option as it's a good deal (brisket, pulled pork, and St. Louis style ribs with corn casserole and mac and cheese). White bread, pickles, onions, and jalapenos are available free of charge. There are three BBQ sauces at each table: their classic BBQ, spicy, and AZ gold). We also added a quarter pound of the AZ burnt ends. Man, these are some quality meats. Brisket is the true test of Texas BBQ and the shining star. The brisket here isn't the best I've ever had but it's quite respectable. The sweet and spicy AZ burnt ends were delicious too. The ribs were tender and had a nice sweet glaze on them. The pulled pork was my least favorite, but still quite good. The sides are solid, though they could be a bit better. The mac and cheese was too peppery for my taste and the corn casserole was too sweet. Like pretty much all craft BBQ these days, Caldwell County BBQ isn't cheap. But the quality is there. This is the type of place that I would come back to again and again. They also have a location in Peoria though this one is the original. And I hear they don't run out of meats as other BBQ joints do (especially in Texas). That's a big plus! It's always a bummer when a BBQ joint is out of something you want. The was the best bbq I've had in AZ in 6 years. The brisket, turkey, sausage, potato salad corn casserole were great. The burnt ends were a little saucer than I expected but were still very good. Service was fantastic we had multiple people check on us and proactively helped with dropped silverware (dining with a toddler (: ) When we mentioned it was our first time there they threw in a banana pudding which was great! I'm not a huge banana fan but I still liked it. They have some indoor seating but it's probably 30% indoor 70% outdoor seating. We ate early so we got an indoor seat but this place is busy (because it's good :) ) it reminding me of a lot of the bbq staples on TX, and the shinerbock helped.
