Howdy y'all. This is hands down, my special go to BBQ place. It's a walk up and order style place. You get your drinks and set at the table while you wait for your food. There really aren't any servers, so to speak. It's very much a country feel walking in. Log cabin meets event hall meets family tables. I always get the JW's meat sampler with the Mac n cheese. It easily makes two meals for me, I love Q for breakfast. The Hatch Chili & Chipotle Mac n cheese is mouth watering good. If it wouldn't kill me, I would get a huge bowl and pig out. I am lactose intolerant, but, this is worth it. My partner bounces between the Chopped salad with turkey and the BBQ Turkey breast. She really enjoys how tasty and juicy the Turkey is. In general, the meats are always super tender, juicy and flavorful - without the sauce. Add in the sauces and you have a very pleasant and tasty meal. Speaking of them, I do really enjoy their vinegar based sauces, that is my happy place. I do like to mix the spicy mustard (Dutchman's Gold), Chipotle and Red. But, I'm weird that way. Try them all out first and then go for broke. It's hard to talk up BBQ, everyone has their own style. If you are into Midwest - St Louie style, go get some. Joebob says check it out. read more

Great BBQ spot in AJ. Good food in general with a few definite highlights. Great service and great ambiance. Feels (and smells) like a proper BBQ joint. A bit of a sports bar vibe as well and would be a fun place to watch a game and get the meat sweats. On a scale of 1 to 5, here's how we ranked everything: Sausage - 5 Brisket- 4 Turkey - 5 w gold sauce Ribs - 4 Pulled pork - 3 Cornbread 3.5 Texas Twinkie 3.5 Pork Belly lollipops 5 Beans 3.5 Slaw 3 Elote 4 Gold sauce 5 Red squce 3.5 Chipotle squce 4 We've rated over 30 BBQ joints around the metro and this ranks right up there with the best. Be sure to try all the sauces and don't pass on the pork belly. Sweet and incredible dish, just like my new lady. As a self-proclaimed barbecue queen who is usually pretty skeptical of hyped-up spots like Caldwell's, Country Dutchman Barbecue in Apache Junction completely blew me away! We brought my nephew here for his 32nd birthday, and from the moment we walked in, the ambiance hit the right note--it's a newer building, but they've captured a wonderfully cool, rustic old-fashioned vibe. The service was incredible right off the bat. We were greeted with warm smiles, and our server (a lovely lady with pink hair whose name I missed!) was absolute gold. She made my nephew's birthday so special by surprising him with bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers and a brownie. The food was phenomenal. My nephew got the sample plate loaded with brisket, pork, sausage, and more. I went for the double brisket burger--that thing was a giant, flavor-packed beast! My nephew loved the cornbread with real corn and called the homemade baked beans "fire." We also tried all of their homemade signature barbecue sauces, and every single one was delicious. The green chili mac and cheese was a bit too mild and simple for my personal taste, but still totally decent. Overall? Fantastic flavor, unbeatable hospitality, and great atmosphere. If you haven't checked out this new spot yet, go give them some love! read more

It's a very cute place with fresh smoked meat and such an amazing menu variety. Can get sandwiches, smoked meat, burgers, and so much more with good sides too. The lunch specials are very good too with a nice variety. Of sauces and good ambiance. It has a good vibe and amazing service to help guide you with what is good. Try the food here if you're visiting nearby or need some good bbq. The burger is worth the price and so is the food in general. The staff were also very nice and informative with what was on the menu. Gave us more ideas about the lunch deals as well as what is worth trying on the menu. There is plenty to choose from besides burgers. There is also ribs, brisket, tacos, and plenty other BBQ related items that just taste so good because you can tell, it is fresh off the grill. More than that it also has good decorations and just a comfy vibe. I'll be sure to come again one day in the future whenever I have the chance. read more

Came here for the first time with my family, the place is super lively inside with lots of people and music. If you can I would recommend sending someone to go find an open table while you wait in line to order because the tables get filled up really quickly. I got the brisket for $17.99 and a side of baked beans for $4.99. The rest of my group got the pulled pork sandwiches & Mac and cheese for $12.99 they also got the Texas Twinkie's. The food was amazinggg!! My brisket was super juicy and would just fall apart. The beans were good, they're extra good if you mix them with the bbq sauces. I tried my moms Mac and cheese it was great, had a slight spicy kick to it too, if that's what your into. Their ciders were pretty cheap and they fill those things up to the tip top! Also if you want some good photos, after we ate we got some good ones outside on their back patio area. Overall everyone loved their food and we definitely will be back if we're in the area. read more

Our local barbecue place was out of brisket, so we decided to make the drive out here after seeing this spot on social media. I'm so glad we did! This place was absolutely great. They had fantastic live music and a fresh, inviting atmosphere inside a beautifully rustic location. While the prices were a little steep, it was entirely worth it. Their unique, house-made barbecue sauces tasted incredible--I especially loved the red BBQ sauce. On top of that, they are one of the only places around that serves cheesy potatoes, and honestly, that side dish alone will keep me coming back! The service was also top-notch; our table was consistently cleared of finished dishes throughout the meal. My only suggestion for improvement would be to add a garden salad or some kind of vegetable option as a side choice. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience and we will definitely be back! read more

We don't come out to Apache Junction very often but when we do we try a new place every time. For the first time we got to actually walk in the door of Dutchman's and try the food. Well worth the wait!!!!!! Large outside area and inside was cozy clean and organized. Our bartender was great!!!! No complaints here. Maybe we will try the same place twice. read more

The food was not the best for bbq, unfortunately. The vibe was great outdoors and the live music was fun. I wish the food was better. It also took a long time to get food as it was so busy. read more

Everything from the ice tea, ribs, brisket, Mac and cheese, sausage, elote, corn bread and coleslaw down to the last sip of our prickly pear cider was better than most things I've ever tasted. The bbq sauces were magic. We'll be going weekly while we're in town. We left miserable because we all over ate! The portions were great for price. Our waitress was great, the restaurant and bar were clean and fun. The outdoor eating area had bonfires and we were bummed we didn't eat out there this time, but we shall next time! The food was amazingly good. We also got a half pound of the sausage which was incredibly juicy and delicious. The jalapeño popper was really good as well. Only complaint is the mac & cheese did not have enough brisket. They really skimped out on the brisket, kind of had to move the pasta around to look for it. Other than that, it was good. read more

First time here. I can see why this place is always busy. This place combines delicious barbecue items with good country music & a family atmosphere. I had the Chopped BBQ salad, which was very good & I chose Chipotle Ranch for my dressing. A good kick with delicious flavor & perfect on any salad. The salad is huge & very good! The service here is good & the staff is super friendly. There is seating indoors & outdoors. There are heaters outdoors for cool nights & a dance floor to get your boot scootin' boogie on. The ONLY drawback is this place fills up fast & the parking is scarce. read more

I really wanted to love this place, but sadly, we were disappointed. My brisket was extremely dry, my grandson's chicken was dry, and my husband's sandwich was dry as well. The mac and cheese was very bland, and the baked beans were overly sweet. even the chocolate chip cookie looked good, but it was dried out and old. Our lunch came to $85. My husband had a beer, I had one drink, and my grandson had a Mountain Dew. For that price, the food was definitely not worth it. When we arrived, I also waited more than 10 minutes at the counter just to place our order. There were only a few people in the restaurant, and the employee who was supposed to help us was in the back near another table. You order and pay at the counter, take a number, and they bring the food to your table. this isn't even the best part besides the subpar food My chair had a whole bunch of barbecue sauce on it all over the seat of my shorts so I have to go to the bathroom and try and clean it so I got to sit there with wet shorts. We loved this place before it was revamped. The restaurant is now clean and beautiful, but unfortunately, the food and service did not live up to our previous experiences. No thanks. Husband was here five weeks ago and the sandwich was amazing. The brisket sandwich he said today was nothing like that. so crazy sadly consistency is not their game read more

Best BBQ in Arizona so far!! Don't trust me, try for yourself. I came here for smal bites and I had plenty to take home. We had brisket. Dutchman's bombs, Mac and cheese bombs and texaz twinkies. I can't pick which one I liked best bc they were all equally amazing. The sauces that you ca pick were amazing, mild to hot. Flavorful juicy meats that you'll be thinking of when you leave. Go early so they don't run out of items. We sat at the bar, had great service. Then went out and sat by a fire, definitely a good night and beautiful mountain views. read more

Very friendly and accommodating staff took our order and explained how everything works. Great bar and Eddie poured us a great drink. Reasonable pricing but, here's the catch... the food! We got Brisket and Turkey Breast. Gouda Hatch Chile Mac and Cheese, Baked Beans. Awesome sauce selections, all above the bar. 11 out of 10, don't even talk to me about the venue. It was familiar and welcoming. We. Will . Be. Back. Terrific Experience! read more

Loved the outdoor seating--plenty of space, beautiful mountain views, and live music that really adds to the experience. The atmosphere is definitely the highlight and makes this a great spot to hang out, especially on a nice day. The food, though, was just okay and came out cold. Compared to our personal favorite BBQ spots in Phoenix, it didn't quite hit the same. That said, dining options are limited out this way, and when you stack it up against what else is available nearby, this place is one of the better choices. Be prepared: it fills up fast and the lines can get very long, so getting there early is a must. read more

Dutchman's Country BBQ - Meat Sampler with Mac & Cheese - Barbeque Near Me - Apache Junction, Arizona

Parking is what sets the immediate impression of a location, and this location has a parking lot with impressive views of the Superstition Mountains. No issues parking on a Saturday afternoon. I knew it had great views and decent parking as this location was the previous town favorite - Filly's. I hadn't been to Filly's in decades as I wasn't a fan of the food personally, so I was excited to try a new concept here. Especially since I read MasterChef Champion Chef Shaun led this kitchen as he was one of my favorite contestants through the seasons as he had a drive and passion for the art of food. When you enter, it is an order at a counter and take a number type of restaurant concept. Definitely prefer a traditional restaurant, but I know with barbecue, this is a common way to serve. A perk of this style is the ability to refill your soda without waiting for a server to do so. Since it is this style, they have condiments, pickles, and other items as a serve yourself with bottles you can take to your seat or to-go containers. Like any new establishment I try, I have to do a flight of all the sauces to rank. Four Sauce Choices: - Dutchman's Original (favorite) - Dutchman's Gold (third, but not a gold BBQ sauce fan) - Superstition Red (least - watery) - S&S Chipotle (second) Sometimes you can't beat the original, but it's always nice to have choices! For the meat options, I got the JW's meat sampler plate ($30) so we can try the different meats with sides with my boyfriend getting a pulled pork sandwich. Who gets turkey at a BBQ? Well, I would absolutely here as it's the best turkey breast I've ever had! It was so moist and had a great flavor, and the brisket was also fantastic! I rarely eat pork, but tried the other items. Loved the hatch chile & jack cheese sausage, which was a surprise as well! The ribs were fall-off-the-bone type, which I love but my boyfriend prefers something to gnaw on. Since I'm always right, they are phenomenal here. ;-) For sides, we tried Arizona Elote, BBQ Baked Beans, and Jalapeño + Chipotle Gouda Mac. BBQ Baked Beans were more like ranch-style beans, which I wasn't a fan of and would skip when returning. The Mac was pretty good, but not a creamy Mac n Cheese if that's what you prefer. The elote is more like elote en vaso, but still had a great flavor. We both did say we'd love it on the cob. They have sinks if you get messy, so a real elote would be fantastic at the table in my opinion. Lastly, my plate came with the cornbread which I wasn't a huge fan of. I'm usually a honey cornbread person, but it appears they added jalapeño which I don't like mixing in a cornbread personally. In contrast, my boyfriend thought it was too sweet for a jalapeño cornbread. Perhaps since this location is new, they are experimenting on "the" cornbread recipe, so I'd try again. Overall, both the meat items and the side dishes were a success! I would say 4.5/5 Stars, so with the stunning Superstition Mountains, Dutchman's Country BBQ gets a 5-Star Yelp review in my book! Check them out when you are in the area! read more

One Star??? If I was to base this review on my first encounter with the first person - whom was a much older lady taking the orders, I think her name was Tara, I would definitely give this place a one star. I'm not sure what her rush was to get me and my friend to order, as we were the only two people in line and the restaurant was 98% empty, as you'll see in the pictures. I was SOOOO disappointed even after telling her it was our first time, the lady didn't even allow us to put in our information at the end of the transaction for the Rewards program or an email list or anything that they have???!!! I still don't know anything about it because she didn't give us a chance. I thought it would've been nice to know of new menu items since they have a limited menu??? The information portion just popped on the screen and the lady quickly skipped over it. They should REALLY consider another person to be the face of Customer Service --- CS skills are really much needed! I think her behavior was really strange, off-putting, she was so preoccupied looking around, it was inconsiderate, rude and weird. We ended up sitting in the bar and luckily the cornbread was the first thing I tried and it was deliciously moist with a light crust top of honey. I tried the pulled pork sandwich and was not disappointed, it had so much moisture. The portion was really nice. The sandwich overall was definitely a five and the coleslaw placed on-top was also a five; highly recommend that!!! The side of macaroni was ok - slightly spicy, with a thin cheese sauce, although I prefer a cheesy, thicker sauce myself, with a pasta less overcooked. Here's a tip ~ be sure to grab some napkins and put water on them cause I didn't see any wet naps anywhere. Sauces: Superstition Red - A sweet-and-sour sauce type very watery, but had a mild flavor, not spicy. S & S Chipotle - sauce is definitely on the spicier side. I did really like it. Very tasty. The Dutchman's gold sauce, tangy kind of a vinegar based, savory, my favorite. Dutchman's Original - a traditional bbq, not overly sweetened! Barbie (pictured) was in the spacious bar and she was so nice to visit our table. We had a quick chat she mentioned about live music they host. Eddy (girl) was also very friendly to visit our table and took care of us. The pecan pie was extremely sugary and very hard. The buttercream whipped topping was melted, but the pie was cold so that was a little confusing, of course I wanted it to look like the picture, but it clearly did not. Tip ~ If you don't like the taste of butter on your pie then I would definitely skip that. I love pecan pie myself, therefore wanting to try it, I'm not sure why the topping was melted and the pie was so hard? Sadly, I'm guessing they were both very old, definitely Not fresh. Sharing of course My Friend was most definitely not a fan. There's plenty of space, much of the restaurant was empty and the decor is very pretty and rustic! There's a huge outside sitting area with very warm heaters and fire!!! I'm not sure why I tipped, hopefully it goes to Eddy (she served our table) and NOT the front counter older lady taking orders. I spent $31. read more

I'm giving this three stars because it's mixed review. I know AZ is not the South and I can't expect authentic Texas or Georgia-style BBQ. The good: the brisket is great. I asked for wet and they gave it to me. It was flavorful, moist, and so good. The turkey had a great smoke flavor. The Texas Twinkie was warm from the jalapeño and I love a good jalapeño! The not so great: everything was sweet. The turkey had a sweet bark, the bacon on the Twinkie was sweet, the sauces are extremely sweet, and the pickled onion and pickles were sweet. The cornbread was dry and sweet. Just a lot of one flavor profile. We didn't try the sides (lots of starch) but green veggies like green beans, collards, or similar would be a welcome addition to the menu. read more

Not bad for a casual bbq place. This was the closet bbq restaurant to our stay at the El Paseo for a wedding. We got the JW's meat sampler, hatch & Gouda Mac n cheese, corn bread, Arizona Elote, Green Apple & poblano coleslaw, smoked brisket chili. The brisket was a bit dry. The turkey breast and sausage were juicy and tender. The ribs were very caramelized and dark, but not fall off the bone tender. Pulled pork was ok. The sides were all good. The coleslaw was a bit bland and not sweet at all. The chili came out hot and cheesy. Mac and cheese and elote were creamy. Fast service. read more

Well, well, well! I took my parents here for dinner, and we had a blast. We tried JW's meat sampler which has five smoked meats plus cornbread and added sides of hatch chile mac & cheese. They accidentally brought us a burger, and I wasn't sure if it belonged to the sampler. Turns out it was meant for another table, but our server kindly said it was on the house for the mix-up. We also enjoyed the BBQ chopped salad. There was plenty to eat, and we even took some home. Highly recommend! read more

Went with a group of women. Our food was all excellent. Everyone was very happy. Great BBq and good place for a group.

We didn't expect to find a place like this out in the country, but it was very pleasant and modern and the service was good and the servers they smiled and the food was exceptional and I can say that because I'm married to a Chicagoan who are very fussy with their food and how it tastes and everything and I was pleased that they enjoyed it. And the salad was good for my wife who looks for roughage, and I tried the chipotle barbecue sauce on the salad, and it was GOOD. Plus, the scenery is pretty epic and they have a nice outdoor section. Plus I think bands were scheduled to play there. I saw on the marquee and just in general and overall positive experience. I would definitely go back. It's too bad. There's a lot of other things in Apache Junction to try these guys had good meat. read more

I really wanted to love this place. We like to support local businesses, especially during the summer when it can get quiet, but boy, do they make it hard to have a good time. The food is just bland, not bad, but also nothing special. It smells so good, but it's dry and just ok, so you add sauce.... What is unforgivable is the service. You are paying sit down prices, for less than MacDonalds service. We went at 4 today - July 27th - and were greeted by a blank stare when we walked in, but no welcome. Do we wait, do we sit ? We had to ask for menus (yes it's overhead, MacDonalds style). We ordered the meat plate with a selection of sides. They have no juice and the water had a nasty taste - maybe time to clean the fountain ? We had one bottled coke, one water and the price was $70 for two adults and two kids. The food came out fast, but we had no napkins, no silverware, no side plates. Do we eat mac and cheese with our fingers ? I went back to find a server and stood up again when the server had got half way to our table, and turned back to have a conversation with another member of staff. We got plastic cutlery, and small cardboard trays. It's ok, but not $70 ok. The fries were cold, but there was no one around interested in our experience, so we ate cold fries. When we left the counter was again empty - no one checked on us, until we were packing to leave, she didn't ask about our experience and no one said goodbye. Oh - and there is no soap in the rest room, so maybe take your own ? The table was dirty and there was food on the floor. It feels a lot like someone cared when they designed the venue, but then they left it to minimum wage staff, who turn up and take the paycheck. Go for the view, accept the food, and don't expect anything from the staff. read more

We loved this barbecue spot! We ordered the tacos and the brisket sandwich, and everything we tried was full of amazing flavor. All of the homemade barbecue sauces inside were incredible and really made the meal. If you go, try to time it around sunset and sit on the patio -- the view of the Superstition Mountains is absolutely beautiful and makes the whole experience even better. The staff was very friendly, attentive, and kept the place clean, which we really appreciated. The only downside for us was the cheesy potato side. It was a bit mushy and lacked flavor compared to everything else. We also would've loved more fried jalapeños on the sandwich and a little more meat on the tacos. That said, the flavor, pairings, and overall quality of what we did get were fantastic. Overall, definitely worth visiting. Great food, great atmosphere, and an unforgettable view! read more

We were really excited to try this place after watching the construction and waiting for it to open. The building itself is beautiful, and the views are amazing, they clearly put a lot of thought into the space. Unfortunately, the food was a major letdown. When they first opened it looks like they had some BBQ combo plates, however, the menu has changed to more a la carte. The portions were shockingly small, so small that we honestly thought our order had been made incorrectly at first. For a BBQ restaurant, the portion size just didn't come close to matching the price. It was disappointing. The brisket was 2 small slices, sides were each less than a 1/2 cup each, soda machines were all out of ice and the condiment bar was almost empty. We truly don't want to see a new business in this area struggle or fail, and we hope they're able to improve because the location and concept have so much potential. That said, we simply can't justify paying those prices for that amount of food. We left hungry and ended up down the street at another BBQ that has huge portions but limited seating (iykyk). We really hope they take feedback like this seriously and make adjustments, we'd love a reason to come back. read more

Needs a lot of refinement. The reviews here are overwhelming positive with regard to the bbq. The majority of them also mention the service being slow and the location frequently being out of different dishes. I've got to say those reviews are 100% on point. We got there at noon, and they were already out of about half their meats. They are nice enough to list the stuff they are out of on a menu board by the front door, but when we got to the counter to order they were out of several other appetizers that weren't listed on the board. You've got to move fast here if you want something specific because they sell out at the speed of light. This is a good thing though because it means people really like their food. The takeaway from this is that they are newly opened, and are still working the kinks out. I don't think they were prepared for how popular or busy they would be, and are working to adjust their business to it. It's got to be tough doing bbq, because you don't want to do too little but on the other hand you definitely don't want to be left with a bunch of bbq at the end of the day. Still, running out of half of the items on your menu by noon on a Saturday doesn't exactly scream self confidence. Even with their being out of so many things, the wait was still crazy bad. They definitely need to hire more people, as after placing our order we literally waited forty minutes before the food showed up. Unfortunately the food just didn't do it for me either. It wasn't terrible. It just wasn't special. Maybe it's because they didn't have what I had set my heart on, or maybe it was just the price gave me the impression that the food was going to knock my socks off. Unfortunately it just didn't do it for me on a lot of different levels. There are plenty of choices in the valley, but maybe not so many in Apache Junction which is why this place is such a big hit. I drove up from Florence to try it out, so I am so sad this didn't work out as well as I hoped. read more

Tonight my sister and I had dinner at the Dutchman Country BBQ for the first time. When I walked in there was sweet young girl at the front. She was so helpful and I let her I know I was waiting for my sister to arrive. She offered me a menu to review as I waited. I really appreciate that as it allowed me to time to see the menu in its fullness. When we were ready to order, we were helped by Tara. She took my order but didn't seem to focused on helping us at the counter. Was disappointed After paying we could seat ourselves, it was very spacious and we could sit inside or outside at the bon fire area. It was cold, so we sat inside in the bar area. In the bar area where we sat, they had old soft rock music on the tv playing. Not too bad and not too loud, which was great! I did capture a picture of the smokers , Fat Jacob and Little Filly. Great to see an employee getting food from there hoping it was mine . Lol I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and jalapeño Mac and cheese. It came out fast. It was really good. I also had their lemonade, which was good and not too sweet. I would say my overall experience was good. Best employees there tonight were Barbie and Eddy in the bar area. So helpful and really showing great customer service. As well as the young girl in the front when I first went in. Tara not so much. Barbie did say they even have live bands on Thursday- Sunday at certain times. I'd like to go back and see the band. $13 for a not-generous pulled pork sandwich and salt-encased fries is not a value. Especially when they forget the coleslaw. $3.75 for an 8oz soft drink is theft. Although you can get a free refill. Nobody checked back to see how the food was or if we needed anything (like my coleslaw). The $3 cookie was super thin and very greasy. I have never seen a bbq restaurant that didn't have wet wipes available. I really hoped that when the new owners came in they would improve things over Filly's. They didn't. My wife's food wasn't any better. $13 for a sandwich with very little turkey felt like I was getting my pocket picked. There is no way that when you leave a BBQ restaurant for lunch that you should still be hungry. Any other Bbq restaurant in AJ would be a better choice. We won't be back. read more
