Went on Sunday around 2, the place was almost empty , waited about 10 minutes to see a waitress for drinks . After we ordered our food we never saw our waitress again . I had to find her at the bar after waiting for 15 minutes at least for our check so we could leave . Food is good -ish won't be back for poor customer service. Taco Giro (formally Elvira's) is a Mexican restaurant in Apache Junction. It's known for their colorful dining room, tables, seating booths and bar area as well or their food. Their new food menu is amazing with plenty of choices for breakfast lunch and dinner. We stopped by just for happy hour drinks. My strawberry daiquiri hit the spot. Two paved spaces are Handicapped parking the rest is a dirt lot. Service 5/5 We were immediately greeted by a gentleman and our server Emanuel. We chose a table in the main dining room. It was busy but noticed only half of our tables were busy. If all the tables were busy that parking lot would be full ++. Ambiance 5/5 We really liked the decor, unique design details on each table & booth. The lively bold colors created a nice atmosphere and Mexican vibe, well done! Food 5/5 We ordered iced teas, menudo, and Wet Steak Burrito aka Chimichanga. Both were delicious and my Chimichanga has risen to the top of my list for best Chimichangas!!! Located in the old Elvira's location with a lot of the nostalgia from when that restaurant was open (booths still display the name/logo as well as murals). I had high hopes as I read that there are already six Arizona locations, and this the first in the area. My cousin and I met and both were amazed at our meals! Flavor, quality, and a great price point. So much so that we plan to return tomorrow morning for breakfast! The Chilimoy Margarita is a must try if you enjoy a good Margarita as it has the perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and a hint of the tequila flavor. The unsung hero for me was the rice the dishes come with. It is packed with flavor and is simply not just a side with your dish - it stands on its own in flavor! My cousin is a culinary school graduate, and as I joke as picky as Gordon Ramsey himself. She kept taking a bite of each dish component and approving! What can I say? All of the staff seemed high lol except for one muscular dark haired young gentleman who was tending to the tables, seemed like a bus boy. My husband loved his Micheladas but my Cadillac marg was just too much juice. I even ordered an extra shot of tequila and added it in but didn't help. I didn't get thru half of the drink. My husband got a shrimp burrito and I got the number one combo. Food was mid. Our waitress disappeared half way thru. We had to wave down two different people to attempt to get our check. My husband and I don't get Taco Giro's new review average. May is the month as things heat up and winter visitors leave. Is a low average the same thing reviewers did to the former restaurant here called Elvira's? I grew up in Yuma and still return often. Lived all my adult life in Tucson. Now we live in the East Valley and have travelled and worked in Mexico. We've eaten Mexican food all over and respect different regions have different styles. Taco Giro has been wonderful and for us consistent everytime. Fresh and always filling. We can order a $25 plate and split it and be stuffed because portions are generous. For a drink we ordered: The Michelada El Giro that has their house michelada mix, beer, and shrimp juice. It has a delicious rim dip, with lemon, green olives, and shrimp around the rim of the drink. Inside it has chamoy candy!! Absolutely delicious and very fun to look at!! Appetizer: Molcajete Guacamole made FRESH! With a side of chips Dinner plates we ordered: *Camarones Costa Azul, it is shrimp wrapped in bacon stuffed with surimi, with a side of beans and rice. I had been here once before a while back when it was Elvira's, but apparently they changed ownership. Our waitress Dolce, who was super sweet and on top of it, she recommended the molcajete mixto. It had cheese, steak, chicken, shrimp and nopales, the works! It also comes with your choice of corn/flour tortillas and rice and beans. It was so delicious! Two of us split it. We happened to go on a Monday and they had $1.99 margaritas, which were also great tasting and generously poured. You get free chips and salsa as well before your meal. The ambiance is cute, well spaced and well decorated with Mexican theme. The portions are perfect and delicious. Will definitely be back to visit Dolce, and try more of the menu out!! read more

My husband and I ate here tonight- we walked in a few minutes before 8pm the customer service was excellent, the restaurant was very clean, large menu with lots to choose from & the food is Authentic, hot and fresh, without us knowing they close at 8pm we were there quite a while (not realizing) and they were happy to have us there, didn't make us feel like a burden or turn us away and told us to take our time. We are old customers of Elvira's, and loved it. Now we have this new version, with a new name and new decor, although the name "Elvira's" is still proudly displayed through the dining room. This place is no Elvira's. First, the good news: The restaurant is brightly decorated and clean. We were immediately greeted by friendly, attractive staff, and shown to a table where we were provided tasty chips and salsa right away. Soon our server arrived and took our orders. Food was promptly delivered, and looked really good. Then, things went downhill. I had a combo meal (2 items) with sides that looked like a huge feast. It was an optical illusion, propped up by copious amounts of lettuce. Actually, the enchilada and taco were quite small, but it was okay, I wasn't that hungry, and therefore satisfied. My hubby's green chili burrito was medium sized, and he commented that the chili could have been cooked longer - it didn't have that tender melt-in-your-mouth quality he loves. The biggest complaint was that our food was barely warm. Plates were not at all hot. I'm not sure how/when our food got cold, because the delivery by our server had been quick. So, the food quantity and flavor was only marginally good, lowering to an "inadequate" rating because it wasn't hot. We brought our leftovers home to reheat in the microwave, and hopefully then it will be better. My other complaint? FIVE DOLLARS FOR AN ICE FILLED GLASS OF COKE is unacceptable. I have been coming to "Elviras" since 2013. Last year they turned into Taco Giro. Taco Giro's food is good, I''m not complaining about that, even though Elvira's homemade tortilla chips were amazing and Taco Giro didn't keep them on. I'm just not sure what is going on there, but the service here is so freaking slow. How can a restaurant that only has 3 tables taken be this slow? Every time I visit, it happens every time. THE. SERVICE. IS. SLOW. IN. A. EMPTY. RESTAURANT. I was sat quickly when I arrived, chips and salsa immediately, drink and food order at the same time. Great! Then at least 15 minutes go by and no drink. Not even water at the table. I look around and see my waitress just walking around doing other stuff. Then my food gets delivered and remarked that I didn't have my drink. The waitress just said oh and walked off. No apology, nothing. Then I watched as she went around for a minute doing other tasks. ??????? Finally she brought my drink without saying anything. I ate my food, It was good and hot. But then nothing. No waitress to ask if I needed anything else. Zero. She was just off doing stuff at the main counter, etc. A busboy removed my plates. Another 10 minutes went by and no bill. Finally had to just go up to the counter to pay it. And guess what? It was my waitress at the cash register. Just absolutely no response of "sorry to keep you waiting". Just absolutely no self-awareness of her job as a server. I swear she seemed out of it. I can't do this to myself again by coming back to this location which is sad because it was one of my go to's when in AJ. Seriously, I don't know who owns or manages this location, but something has to be done about the servers. Like I mentioned, this has happened every single time I have been here in the last year. Upon entering the restaurant, it was clean and bright. The staff was all very friendly and helpful. For being a full restaurant on a Saturday evening, the service and food was very quick! To start, complimentary chips and salsa. I ordered a chilimoy margarita which was giant and absolutely delicious. The perfect blend of sweet and spicy. The margarita was adorned with a chamoy and tajin rim, tamarind candy straw, and fruit roll in the bottom of the drink (I believe, the menu did not offer a description)! For my meal, I ordered the #23 combination platter which came with a Chile relleno, beef tamale, and chicken hard taco accompanied by rice, refried beans, and a salad. When the plate of food I had ordered was set down in front of me, my eyes about bugged out of my head. It was SO much (quality) food. The side of rice and beans were flavored wonderfully and weren't just "sides" in my opinion. They absolutely added to the overall dish; so tasty! The salad was really just undressed lettuce, but given the rest of the meal, a traditional salad was not missed. The relleno was fried beautifully and the sauce was amazing. The beef tamale had deliciously flavored shredded beef and the masa was tasty. If I am being honest I didn't have room to taste the taco... lol! I am a sucker when the check comes with candy, and this check was delivered with 3 different hard candies which put a smile on my face. I am quite picky when it comes to eating at restaurants and typically disappointed. I was absolutely pleased with the meal and experience at Taco Giro. Elvira's was good back in the early 2000's until they moved into the new building. After that it seemed like the employees ran the place and they were nasty and rude and the food unsafe. The owner closed it down for a while then reopened and it was average at best. Now it's rebuilding itself again but sad to say no better. Service is bad, but not intentionally. Not enough help and for the prices of the food they can afford more help. there is also no leadership. Food was pretty average at best. Margaritas were good if you like them without tequila. I was really hoping this place would be good but they won't even give Taco Bell a run for their money Although I do have to say their shredded beef taco was excellent even though it was on a premade shell which crumbled after the first bite.
