I couldn't have had a better meal. I'm here in Phoenix for a conference, and my friends took me to this place for dinner. It was absolutely incredible. I usually loathe what some people call American food because the vegetables are overcooked and the food is under seasoned, but this place was perfect! We started off having the Frito pie, and the chili was just spicy enough with Fritos, cheese, and onions, and it was just a great, great dish. I remember this dish from my old neighborhood. I had a cocktail that was made with whiskey, lemon, and some other things that was incredibly refreshing. Then I had a chicken-fried pork chop, and this was so good, so flavorful! The gravy was wonderful! I added a little pepper to it and a little bit of the juice from those peppers in the bottle, and it made it perfect. This came with fried potatoes, which were wonderful, and green beans, which were stupendous. The green beans were not cooked in the usual lousy American style but were shiny, taut, crunchy, with just enough give. The almonds added to the deliciousness. Some of the best green beans I've ever had in my life. The pecan pie tasted homemade, and I wolfed it down. The restaurant itself had a kitschy old West theme with tons and tons of signs and pictures up on the walls. It looks like the kind of place that you'd probably drink beer, but the fact that they had great cocktails and great everything else really made it shine. Our server was friendly and very attentive. We have been going here for years and it never disappoints. They are known for their chicken fried steak and that's usually what I order. We went for lunch so I got the lunch size portion which comes with one steak and it is still huge. Dinner portion comes with two steaks so be warned, you will be getting a lot of food. My lunch came with mashed potatoes and gravy and corn along with a delicious biscuit. The chicken fried steak has a light crispy breading and is never greasy. The gravy has a delicious peppery flavor. Plan on leftovers and if you're nice, they give you a little extra gravy. My husband got the chicken fried chicken dinner which comes with 2 large chicken breasts and 2 sides. He got the mashed potatoes and a salad. They have good salads but be warned, they put chopped green olives on top unless you request to have them left off. We both had half our meal left over to take home. I had been dying to try one of their deserts so I got the peach cobbler and it was really good. More of a cake type top than I'm used to but delicious. They have really good fried catfish and even a decent burger. On the weekend you can even get a brunch chicken fried steak(called Eggs Bubba) that comes with a fried egg on top. So yummy! Joined a couple of friends for lunch. Was seated at a booth barely large enough for 3 grown men. Ordered the " famous" chicken fried steak. Comes with mashed potatoes and corn, a biscuit and gravy. Biscuit, very good, especially with the rich white gravy. Mashed potatoes were excellent. Just lumpy enough, and the same tasty gravy! Corn was delicious. Nice side. The CFS? Average. Not bad, nothing special. A definite plus... condiments included A1& Heinz 57 sauce, Tabasco peppers in vinegar ( real Southern style), and Cholula hot sauce. I live up the street from this place, and it was already a great experience being able to walk to it. Upon arrival, the inside is so much fun. Quite the exciting atmosphere, very Texan-country vibes. We arrived for dinner, and were seated almost right away. The waitress was very attentive, personable, and nice. She offered the specials, gave us some ideas about the menu, and notified us of their most famous dishes. After looking over the menu, I decided to go with the CFC (Chicken Friend Chicken), with mashed potatoes and French fries, with my gravy on the side. Before the entrees came out, the waitress dropped off some of their buttermilk biscuits, which I gotta say, were probably the best I've ever had. I've never been a huge fan of them previously, because most of the one I've experienced were dense, dry, and quite crumbly. TexAZ's biscuits were perfectly light, buttery, and soft. SO Good! Our entrees came out and they most certainly did not disappoint. The CFC comes with TWO, full-sized chicken breasts, fried to perfection. It's not a super thick batter, which makes for a really nice crisp crunch. The chicken was quite juicy and flavorful, and adding a little of their gravy on it only enhanced the dish even further. The mashed potatoes were also fantastic, and the French fries were very fresh, and lightly salted. Overall, the experience was great, the service was great, the food was great. Really nice. First time here and not at all disappointed. The inside is really fun. And has all these decor around. The food however also pretty good. I had the steak and eggs. The steak personally could've used more salt and so could the potatoes. I had the Sunday driver as well. Tastes like oj and vodka. My mom had the burger and it's a big burger. The burger beef is very soft and easy to eat and flavorful. My steak was easy to cut as well. The waitress was very friendly and I'd come back. Returned after 5 years out of state. Chicken fried steak is as amazing as I remembered.

I really wanted to love this place but was somewhat disappointed. The biscuits and chicken fried steak with the gravy were really good. However, all of the sides...corn, green beans, fried potatoes had NO flavor. It was like they forgot to season everything. Also, we had a large party in a long booth, as well as a toddler. We asked for a highchair and the only kind they had strapped onto the table and they they wouldn't let us use it unless it was inside the booth, but we were already fully crammed in with adults. They didn't have any stand alone highchairs or let is use a regular chair. I've never been to a restaurant that wouldn't accommodate something like this. Our waitress was really nice and provided good service. Not sure if I'll try this place again or not. read more

It's a little dark and the walls are busy but it's also kinda cool as you can find something new every time you come in. Very cowboyesk.... Their prime rib was absolutely phenomenal - seriously smoky and delicious. I was *blown away* by that. The chicken fried chicken sandwich, though? Eh, it was okay, nothing to write home about. I needed to doctor it up a bit - added some coleslaw (with a healthy dose of Tabasco ), because it needed a little something extra, The bun came dry. There was again tomato pickle, lettuce and onion on the side.The chicken was a bit greasy, and the mashed potatoes, while super delish and the gravy was amazing with some lumps and peels. The only downside was the wait time. It took about an hour to get our food, and the place wasn't even that busy. Sounds like they might have been training some new staff. Bring your appetite because both servings sizes will fill you up. It doesn't sit heavy like ALOT of CFS but it is satisfying. Service is always prompt and attentive. The building at 16th St and Bethany Home is smallish but has quirky western flair. A better side vegetable selection would be nice. Front parking is tight. Tried their signature chicken fried steak (CFS) with country potatoes, wife went for the grilled chicken sandwich. Everything was fresh and cooked to order. Wife loved her sandwich. The CFS was flavorful and the gravy nice and peppery. Best I've had in PHX. What kept it from being a solid 5 stars was the steak itself is paper thin and shrunk when cooked to leave all the edge breading empty of meat. I prefer the breading to be flaky like fried chicken. This was smooth like fish and chips. The flavor made up for it though. $50 for two people, to include a $15 t-shirt, is unheard of these days! Great value. I celebrated my 63rd birthday, here at Texaz Grill on October 8th. I ordered the chicken fried steak. It came with mashed potatoes and a choice of corn or salad as a side. The chicken fried steak was plentiful. The added gravy added to the flavor of the meat. My only gripe was that the patty could have used some seasoning. Beyond that, there was constant customers arriving. The decorations were all Texas related. The waitress told me that Monday was the only day the restaurant serves their famous fried chicken. The server was a really nice lady. We ordered Mac and Cheese and she informed us that they put gravy in the Mac and cheese, which I found odd but ordered it anyway. We went to Texaz twice this week for lunch. Wednesday special was Texaz Reuben and Thursday was Open Face Roast Beef Sandwich with mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy. Me and my husband decided to finally stop by and try this place out for lunch. The location is good and the inside had nice decor. We were right away greeted and sat down. The place wasn't packed like I had anticipated. Meanwhile we waited closer to an hour for our food to arrive.. keep that in mind. While waiting so long, the gravy had that dry film over the top like it had been sitting out. But good to know the mashed potatoes were made in-house cause I was pulling clumps of potato skins. The positive was the portion size. Could feed 2 people and have leftovers. On the other hand, my husband ordered a medium-rare Texaz Grill Burger with cheddar cheese. He ordered something so simple yet it came out cold and well-done ON A HOT DOG BUN with shredded cheese that had not been melted. His bun looks like it had a bite taken out of it too LOL Took me a lot not to laugh out loud when our food was brought to us because our poor server was already embarrassed it had taken so long and had to explain they had run out of hamburger buns.. during early lunch hour.. This place had nice people but the food was not up to expectations and why was everything got cold and dry when the place was not busy at all! We did the dinner chicken fried steak and split it. This consists of two chicken fried steaks smothered in gravy. I love gravy. We got mashed potatoes and corn as our sides. These were generous portions I had half of one of the chicken fried steaks and the boyfriend ate the rest the potatoes and corn were also great. The biscuits w honey so good. We also tried the frito pie it comes in the actual frito bag. BETTER RESTAURANTS NEARBY !!! Good staff, kind and quick with service and food. The ambiance is a classic roadhouse vibe hard to mess that up. The problem started with the menu, the prices were not accurate to the bill which is ILLEGAL! We ordered the brisket sandwich and got 80% toast and two measly slices of brisket. With a side of 8 fries.. maybe. This was advertised as 20.95 but I was charged 21.95 The flavors are all there with great sauce but terrible portion sizes for the prices. We were visiting friends in Phoenix and they took us here, one of their favorite places. Fun place! Lots of Texas and Arizona memorabilia on the walls, homey and welcoming atmosphere. The server was attentive and non-optrusive. Food was delicious. I had the brisket sandwich...done to perfection! The only complaint (may be unfair to drop the number of stars for this.) I have is for their margarita (I am a expert margarita drinker!) I could barely drink it but wouldn't let it go to waste! Some margaritas have this strange taste, I think guave.
