We went to Buck & Rider for their 10th Anniversary Oyster Day and had a great time. We didn't have a reservation, but decided to take our chances and see if we could grab seats at the bar for happy hour. They weren't taking any more table reservations for the evening, but they added our name to the waitlist for bar seating and quoted us about an hour. We left to run a quick errand and returned just in time to be seated. The atmosphere was lively with live music, $2 oysters, drink specials all night, and their regular happy hour menu. We ordered a dozen oysters, ceviche, trout dip, tuna crispy rice (not on happy hour, but it's too good to pass up) and wine. Everything was fresh and delicious, just what we've come to expect from Buck & Rider. Even with the restaurant packed, the bartenders were friendly and attentive. The only unusual part of the evening happened before we even walked in. There was a woman passed out in the bushes outside covered in vomit. We mentioned it to the hostess when we checked in, and she let us know they were already aware of the situation and were handling it. Obviously, that's not something the restaurant can control, and it's definitely not something we've ever seen outside Buck & Rider before. Overall, it was another great visit. My first and probably last time going to Buck & Rider, we decided to check it out for my sisters birthday and despite putting in our drinks first, they didn't come out till after the appetizers which was okay because it was busy. For the price of dining though, the "crispy calamari" came out cold and soggy and then they forgot to ring in our bread rolls! I was really excited to try the steak after hearing good reviews from friends and online! I ordered it medium but it came out well-done, I'm not sure if it was busy or it was put in wrong , I ended up just sending it back and getting a burger which was okay. It's my second time back and I'd give it a 3.5 if I could. Of course this place and location is popular, that's a given. For any who haven't dined here yet, expect a wait and crowds. I do like the ambiance inside, it has a nice vibe and the outdoor patio area is inviting and cozy. Our server was working very hard and was nice and helpful to the extent they could be. They also helped me with picking between 3 entrees and I was happy with the one I picked. While the pasta dish was delicious I will say the portion sizes for the cost leave me disappointed each time. Since it's so busy, the restaurant staff is super stretched. Kudos to them for all their hard work. With that being said, there's improvements that can be made since the orders at the table got mixed up, weren't prepared at the same time and drinks were forgotten. One of my favorite locations! It's bigger than the one on camelback (or maybe it just feels bigger). They have great outdoor seating with misters, indoor seating, bar seating and a sushi type bar seating. They offer complimentary parking as all location do. The service at any location is excellent. This is a go to every time I am in AZ. It's a very busy restaurant, I recommend reservations on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If you don't get reservations the back patio is open seating with tables and servers. Still such a great experience. I always get the same thing when I come here but you can't go wrong with anything. What a disappointing experience yesterday. I come here (and to Pinyon) nearly every week (sometimes twice a week!) and decided to come here for my birthday lunch with family. The server we initially had never came back to take our order (apparently she got relieved from her shift, but we were never told), so we ended up flagging down a different server who was so cold and rude (I think her name was Kara?). Simple questions about the menu seemed like an inconvenience to her. She also did not describe the lobster portion accurately, despite my multiple questions about it before ordering. Our food arrived, and there were flies all over our table landing on the food. When I asked the manager about it, he said that their doors were open all day the day prior for oyster day and they didn't have any fly fans to put on the tables. I don't understand why restaurants leave their doors open when it's 120 degrees outside. We ended up just taking our meal to go and leaving. I took one bite of my lobster, and it was so chewy and overcooked. The calamari was hot but rubbery. Before I say anything specific, lemme tell you... the food, the service, everything was FANTASTIC! Waitress: Shire Party of 3 This amazing restaurant was a fantastic way for my family and I to end our most recent trip to Scottsdale Arizona. We came here based on a suggestion from someone who works at the resort that we were staying at. I cannot tell you how perfect this experience was. The recommendation was probably hands-down the best one they could've given us. B&R had something for all of us to enjoy. I was a bit concerned that my young-ish kiddo would not find something on the menu that would be appealing. I spoke to one of the hostesses at the front of the restaurant about my concern. That is when she let me know that there was a separate kids menu, but also that, essentially anything that we needed, they were pretty confident that the kitchen could figure out. Crazy, but even at as nice and as pricey, a restaurant as this, children's menu, meal items were only about $10-$12 each. I was shocked. Even more impressed, I found items like California rolls and smaller portion steak on the kids menu. Awesome!!! The ambience of the restaurant was perfect. It was dimly lit, but not dark. It was romantic, but somehow still dressy casual if you will. The entrance is beautiful and shows off their patio. I had the most delicious ribeye while my husband had fresh, raw oysters, as well as another entrée that I really didn't pay attention to because I was so engrossed in my own meal. Oopsies. LOL! My kiddo loved their California roll. It also came with a small side of strawberries. That was perfect. We ended up also ordering the small portion of steak for them. An entire morning at the aquarium, followed by an afternoon full of swimming, we had all worked up quite an appetite. They offered us a doggy bag, but once they realize that there were no leftovers on the table, we all had a good laugh, but looked at each other sideways when someone asked us if we were interested in dessert. There was no way. We were all so stuffed and we were so content. I don't quite know how we managed, but we waddled to our car and made our way back to the resort. The entire time, we talked about how fabulous our server was and how fabulous her suggestions were. We also talked about how phenomenal our food was and just how wonderful and experienced the whole night had been at Buck & Rider. My kiddo tried their first raw oyster here. I thought that was pretty amazing. I knew it must've been good since they asked for another shortly after. This is definitely a restaurant that I will suggest to people if ever they ask me for a good dining experience recommendation in Arizona. Dinner was a tad pricey, but considering we were on vacation and we were celebrating our being together as a family and having had such an amazing time in Arizona, it was worth every penny and then some. Having been to multiple locations of Buck & Rider including the Mayo location more than once, I can confidently say that they have a lot of good stuff to offer - and some food is pretty exceptional. I especially like the risotto with shrimp, raw seafood tower, catch of the day, and hamachi crudo. I think some items are a little bland and underwhelming for my palate and I wish they would push the flavors a little more - thinking of the tuna crispy rice, ceviche, and sushi. I was also a little disappointed in the calamari today. It was begging for salt. That said, this is some of the best seafood in the valley! And anything raw cannot be missed. This location is quite large inside and the outdoor patio is nice and shaded with umbrellas. They also have a huge parking lot which is super convenient. We have been back for happy hour several more times. Service is always great here. The only thing to note this time is we were seated at the sushi bar, which makes it hard for a family of four to share food. They were nice enough to move us to a table once it opened up, but we noticed they had seated parties of 2 at the tables for 4.. not sure why. I'm really disappointed that they no longer have the green juice drink. Our server recommended the Playa de Pina, which was surprisingly good. I usually can't do mescal because of the strong flavor, but it is not very strong in this drink. We enjoyed our usual happy hour dishes- the oysters (so worth it for the HH price!), shrimp ceviche, voodoo fried rice, fried chicken, hibachi and salmon roll. Everything is good.
