We had one of the best dining experiences ever. It started with the gracious host, Alex, who went out of his way to help my handicapped friend, who was unable to unlock her seat belt. He came out to the parking lot (in 110° heat) to help us get her out of the car. Manager, Dimitri, is to be commended for his excellent staff. Our party of 5 was seated promptly, during the lunch hour, & helped with our special wheelchair needs. Our waitress, Tana, was so gracious & personable. We appreciated her knowledge of the menu & helpful suggestions. The roasted Brussels sprouts & oysters were amazing. The food was delicious - from the fried fish to the sushi to the fabulous desserts. Wow! Such a great experience, my family and I were visiting from SD and a friend recommended this charming little spot and I see why. Every single food item was delicious. Started with tuna crispy rice which was bomb, the fish sandwich was nice and light, the sushi super flavorful, and the gazpacho was, idek just so freaking good. Oh my gosh and the Banana cream pie! SO yummy! Samatha was helping us out and she's wonderful! She knew we were going to love the desert because although only 2 of us had the room for it, she brought enough forks for the table and boy did ALL of us eat it. An exceptional meal from start to finish! We were there to celebrate my husband and they definitely made us feel special. But what I really appreciated were 1) an extensive kids menu with coloring - as a foodie parent with a toddler it's rare to find a place with amazing food for us, and for our kiddo. Bravo! And 2) the food, did I mention the food? It's some of the best we have had in the Valley! It's my second time back and I'd give it a 3.5 if I could. Of course this place and location is popular, that's a given. For any who haven't dined here yet, expect a wait and crowds. I do like the ambiance inside, it has a nice vibe and the outdoor patio area is inviting and cozy. Our server was working very hard and was nice and helpful to the extent they could be. They also helped me with picking between 3 entrees and I was happy with the one I picked. While the pasta dish was delicious I will say the portion sizes for the cost leave me disappointed each time. Since it's so busy, the restaurant staff is super stretched. Kudos to them for all their hard work. With that being said, there's improvements that can be made since the orders at the table got mixed up, weren't prepared at the same time and drinks were forgotten. We went to Buck & Rider for their 10th Anniversary Oyster Day and had a great time. We didn't have a reservation, but decided to take our chances and see if we could grab seats at the bar for happy hour. They weren't taking any more table reservations for the evening, but they added our name to the waitlist for bar seating and quoted us about an hour. We left to run a quick errand and returned just in time to be seated. The atmosphere was lively with live music, $2 oysters, drink specials all night, and their regular happy hour menu. We ordered a dozen oysters, ceviche, trout dip, tuna crispy rice (not on happy hour, but it's too good to pass up) and wine. Everything was fresh and delicious, just what we've come to expect from Buck & Rider. Even with the restaurant packed, the bartenders were friendly and attentive. The only unusual part of the evening happened before we even walked in. There was a woman passed out in the bushes outside covered in vomit. We mentioned it to the hostess when we checked in, and she let us know they were already aware of the situation and were handling it. Obviously, that's not something the restaurant can control, and it's definitely not something we've ever seen outside Buck & Rider before. Overall, it was another great visit. The food, drinks, atmosphere, and service were excellent, and Oyster Day is definitely worth checking out if you're an oyster lover. read more

One of my favorite locations! It's bigger than the one on camelback (or maybe it just feels bigger). They have great outdoor seating with misters, indoor seating, bar seating and a sushi type bar seating. They offer complimentary parking as all location do. The service at any location is excellent. I'm a regular at this location and camelback. I want to give a huge shoutout to Stephanie. She was a phenomenal waitress. She knew I popped by for happy hour and was on a time crunch. She made sure everything went speedy so I could eat and go! Constantly checking on my water as I was pounding that water down. Her overall energy made me feel so welcomed and taken care of even though I was in a rush. I had plenty of time to enjoy. Now the food: if you've been to Buck & Rider you already know how amazing it is. If you've havent been, it's an absolute MUST! Everything here is so good and FRESH! Went to Buck & Rider for my cousin's birthday we had brunch. The menu is unbelievable. I actually had the Crab-cake Benedict on spinach, it was so incredibly delicious. Then the manager came over and gave my Cousin a box of French macaroons as a gift. The service is impeccable probably the best in Scottsdale. Before I say anything specific, lemme tell you... the food, the service, everything was FANTASTIC! Waitress: Shire Party of 3 This amazing restaurant was a fantastic way for my family and I to end our most recent trip to Scottsdale Arizona. We came here based on a suggestion from someone who works at the resort that we were staying at. I cannot tell you how perfect this experience was. The recommendation was probably hands-down the best one they could've given us. B&R had something for all of us to enjoy. I was a bit concerned that my young-ish kiddo would not find something on the menu that would be appealing. I spoke to one of the hostesses at the front of the restaurant about my concern. That is when she let me know that there was a separate kids menu, but also that, essentially anything that we needed, they were pretty confident that the kitchen could figure out. Crazy, but even at as nice and as pricey, a restaurant as this, children's menu, meal items were only about $10-$12 each. I was shocked. Even more impressed, I found items like California rolls and smaller portion steak on the kids menu. Awesome!!! The ambience of the restaurant was perfect. It was dimly lit, but not dark. It was romantic, but somehow still dressy casual if you will. The entrance is beautiful and shows off their patio. I had the most delicious ribeye while my husband had fresh, raw oysters, as well as another entrée that I really didn't pay attention to because I was so engrossed in my own meal. Oopsies. LOL! My kiddo loved their California roll. It also came with a small side of strawberries. That was perfect. We ended up also ordering the small portion of steak for them. An entire morning at the aquarium, followed by an afternoon full of swimming, we had all worked up quite an appetite. They offered us a doggy bag, but once they realize that there were no leftovers on the table, we all had a good laugh, but looked at each other sideways when someone asked us if we were interested in dessert. There was no way. We were all so stuffed and we were so content. I don't quite know how we managed, but we waddled to our car and made our way back to the resort. The entire time, we talked about how fabulous our server was and how fabulous her suggestions were. We also talked about how phenomenal our food was and just how wonderful and experienced the whole night had been at Buck & Rider. My kiddo tried their first raw oyster here. I thought that was pretty amazing. I knew it must've been good since they asked for another shortly after. This is definitely a restaurant that I will suggest to people if ever they ask me for a good dining experience recommendation in Arizona. Dinner was a tad pricey, but considering we were on vacation and we were celebrating our being together as a family and having had such an amazing time in Arizona, it was worth every penny and then some. Having been to multiple locations of Buck & Rider including the Mayo location more than once, I can confidently say that they have a lot of good stuff to offer - and some food is pretty exceptional. I especially like the risotto with shrimp, raw seafood tower, catch of the day, and hamachi crudo. I think some items are a little bland and underwhelming for my palate and I wish they would push the flavors a little more - thinking of the tuna crispy rice, ceviche, and sushi. I was also a little disappointed in the calamari today. It was begging for salt. That said, this is some of the best seafood in the valley! And anything raw cannot be missed. This location is quite large inside and the outdoor patio is nice and shaded with umbrellas. They also have a huge parking lot which is super convenient. I think the staff always do a great service and I love that they do not rush you here so you can really sit back and enjoy. Overall, I'd never turn down an invite to Buck & Rider. read more

While in town for a quick visit we decided to pop in for a bite. Had a chance to grab a table in the patio, and the weather was perfect! There was a slight chill in the air, but underneath the heat lamps it was extremely pleasant. We were greeted by our server, Chloe, who told us about the fresh catches of the day and made sure that drinks were flowing throughout the entire evening for the crew. Everything that we had from the appetizers to the variety of dishes were all excellent. One of the appetizers, the crunchy tuna, was so good that one of my colleagues decided to order it as part of their main dish. Only slight drawback is the fact that that desserts did not sound too appetizing but that's just because they weren't my cup of tea. Banana cream pie, lemon, meringue, pie, and chocolate cake. We have been back for happy hour several more times. Service is always great here. The only thing to note this time is we were seated at the sushi bar, which makes it hard for a family of four to share food. They were nice enough to move us to a table once it opened up, but we noticed they had seated parties of 2 at the tables for 4.. not sure why. I'm really disappointed that they no longer have the green juice drink. Our server recommended the Playa de Pina, which was surprisingly good. I usually can't do mescal because of the strong flavor, but it is not very strong in this drink. We enjoyed our usual happy hour dishes- the oysters (so worth it for the HH price!), shrimp ceviche, voodoo fried rice, fried chicken, hibachi and salmon roll. Everything is good. This time we ordered the red fish from the regular menu and it was delicious! We will definitely try other fish options next time. We ordered dessert and the banana cream pie is excellent. read more

What a disappointing experience yesterday. I come here (and to Pinyon) nearly every week (sometimes twice a week!) and decided to come here for my birthday lunch with family. The server we initially had never came back to take our order (apparently she got relieved from her shift, but we were never told), so we ended up flagging down a different server who was so cold and rude (I think her name was Kara?). Simple questions about the menu seemed like an inconvenience to her. She also did not describe the lobster portion accurately, despite my multiple questions about it before ordering. Our food arrived, and there were flies all over our table landing on the food. When I asked the manager about it, he said that their doors were open all day the day prior for oyster day and they didn't have any fly fans to put on the tables. I don't understand why restaurants leave their doors open when it's 120 degrees outside. We ended up just taking our meal to go and leaving. I took one bite of my lobster, and it was so chewy and overcooked. The calamari was hot but rubbery. The manager tried to make it right, but this experience definitely left a bad taste in my mouth (literally and figuratively). read more

Buck & Rider has officially become one of those places where I start planning my return visit before I've even paid the bill. Let's address the obvious challenge: convincing people that outstanding seafood exists in the Arizona desert. Somehow, Buck & Rider pulls it off. The tuna crispy rice disappeared from our table so quickly that I barely had time to snap a photo--a true Yelp tragedy. The crab cakes deserve their own fan club. Packed with crab, lightly crisp on the outside, and not weighed down by filler, they're the kind of dish that makes you immediately start calculating how often you can reasonably come back without alarming your bank account. The atmosphere hits that sweet spot between upscale and approachable. You can celebrate a birthday, enjoy date night, impress out-of-town guests, or simply show up hungry and leave happy. The open kitchen adds some energy to the room, and even when the restaurant is buzzing, the service remains polished and attentive. Speaking of service, our server was fantastic--friendly, knowledgeable, and somehow always appeared exactly when we needed something. Water glasses stayed full, recommendations were spot-on, and the entire staff seemed genuinely invested in making sure guests had a great experience.
