The restaurant ambiance is classy yet relaxed, not overly stuffy, but visually clean and inviting, like you feel better about yourself when walking in somehow. You know you are in for a true fine dining experience. We started off with some cocktails and I was very impressed with the clear ice cube in my Smokey Old Fashioned as it was branded with the "Toro" logo. It was so smooth and probably the best Old Fashioned I ever had, so I had 3 more! My wife throughly enjoyed her Espresso Martinis also. I started off with the Grilled Octopus and nearly cried because it was so good. This is a food favorite of mine and although I love the flavors, most restaurants over cook it and you need to cut it with a steak knife. Not this dish, no knife necessary, your fork will do. So tender, so flavorful, so amazingly delicious. The Mrs. ordered the crispy calamari and was thoroughly impressed as the texture was what fresh calamari should be and not the rubbery texture you get from 8 out of 10 other places. Seasoned to perfection with spices but not overly spicy. My wife can't bear spicy anymore , but she really enjoyed it. I finished it for her of course, because she always remembers to leave room for desert and never finishes anything. And I'm glad because I always get to taste her meals too. It's a win-win for me! I then had an off-the-hook Ceviches that rivaled my own. I am also a part-time cook and also wrote a cookbook. Ceviche is a particular dish that I compare to other restaurants and until now, never found another place that compares to mine. Toro doesn't disappoint my friends. Now for the entrée, Lomo Saltado for myself and a medium rare Ribeye for the Mrs. The Lomo Saltado was beef tenderloin on creamy rice, crispy potato, heirloom tomato, bell peppers, Rocoto Aioli and a Chifa Soy Sauce. It was mouth watering. The beef tenderloin was cooked a little on the well done side, but my bad for not specifying to cook it medium rare. It was still amazing and not a big enough deal to even mention it in the review, but I just want you to specify your preference when you order yours. My wife had the 14 Oz. Ribeye, medium rare ( she thought it was also medium but I found it to be medium rare myself) it was soooo good. She had a side dish of Crispy Brussels sprouts that were unworldy. We never had Brussels sprouts that good, it must be the sherry vinagrette and cotija cheese. Unreal. I had a side of shishito peppers that made my heart happy. My favorite peppers are not usually available everywhere so it was a real bonus to the meal. Desert, well the desert was worth the wait. We both ordered the Ube Basque Cheesecake. It is a dark purple colored slice of heaven with masa crumble, Yuzu espuma and coconut jam. The presentation was stunning. We even enjoyed espresso with sambucca to finish our dining experience. How many places offer espresso on their menu just to inform you the espresso machine isn't working? Just another bonus for us. Price wise, what you would expect for a high-end restaurant in a beautiful resort area of Scottsdale, no sticker shock there, but still, I'd save this place as a never can fail go to for a first date, anniversary, job promotion, marriage proposal, special occasion restaurant. Not what I would have expected. We wanted to try something a bit new, reviews here seemed promising. It's a very nice location, sitting right off the golf course. That being said, service was very slow and the food was lackluster. I had the recommended pork and scallops, my wife decided on the lobster fried rice. The pork was basically chunks of pork fat, nearly inedible. The scallops were ok, ended up just skipped the pork. The lobster fried rice was better, but small portions and a very small lobster serving made us wonder how this dish cost $49. We hoped me might finish with a dessert to pick up the mood after a lackluster meal. The salted carmel brownie we decided on wasn't great; tasteless and bland, it just wasn't worth it. Everything about Toro was a beautiful experience. The restaurant sits right on the golf course, offering a lovely view of the sunset in the afternoon. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The food and drinks menu had both traditional options you may expect from a sushi/steakhouse, while also offering a unique twist to make the experience memorable. It was apparent that they value fresh, high quality ingredients. My favorite items of the night were the heirloom tomato salad and the hamachi nigiri, but my husband also loved his New York strip and the Mac and cheese. The price is pretty typical for an upscale Scottsdale steak house, so it's definitely not for your average Tuesday, but well worth the cost for a special occasion. We were seated at such a fun large round table with a center lazy suzy table top in the center. They even engrave the restaurant's name into the ice cube, which blew my mind. For our entrees we shared sushi. It was good, maybe not as amazing as the appetizers, but still delicious. We were never left waiting for service. He constantly checked on us and made recommendations from the menu. We started with cocktails including a dirty martini, served icy cold, a passion fruit pisco sour, cuatros coco and the paper playa. All were tasty with the least favorite cuatros coco. The coconut was just overpowering. For the appetizer, we ordered the short rib tacos, sweet corn empanadas and the heirloom tomato & burrata for the table. The appetizers were plentiful for the four of us and all were delicious. We really liked the corn empanadas which were packed with flavor, especially with the accompanying chimichurri sauce. For dinner, the lobster fried rice, scallops and pork belly and the glazed short ribs. My friends loved the lobster fried rice and felt they had a nice portion of lobster. I chose the pre-fix menu and my husband chose from the regular menu. We started with the grilled octopus appetizer PHENOMENAL!!! SO tender with just enough spice, by far the best octopus I've had. My dinner started with a seafood soup which included lobster, clams and shrimp. Very flavorful. My husband had the Avocado salad which was bursting with flavor. My entree was a grilled pork chop. It was served off the bine and already sliced, but the bine was there...I took it home!! My husband enjoyed the scallops and pork belly. The scallops were seared to perfection and the pork was juicy and flavorful. We both shared my dessert of tres leches with raspberries. So creamy with a perfect crunch from the crust enveloped in thin chocolate shavings. A perfect ending to an absolutely perfect meal!! Certain items on the menu are terrific-- like the poke guacamole which is served with plantain chips and the cocktails (if you're a fan of pisco sours, you won't be disappointed). Other items were good, but not amazing-- like the signature sushi rolls which were inspired but just didn't quite come together ( the sashimi is a better bet). The menu is a little hit or miss. The selection is small and the dishes are so overly composed that it's close to impossible to alter anything due to a food allergy without ruining the experience. As someone who can eat cheese and butter but not milk or cream, it was difficult to find anything other than a steak or sushi. I didn't anticipate it would be an issue given that the description of the restaurant says it's Argentinian/Peruvian fusion and neither of those cuisines use much dairy, but even the grilled octopus (which I've had at other restaurants many times, was sitting in a cream-based sauce). If you're vegetarian or vegan, you will likely have the same concerns. I initially ordered the vegan option on the menu (the grilled cauliflower) as I knew that would be dairy-free but the waitress informed me that despite the menu stating it is vegan, it does have a cream-based sauce. I hope they correct that soon as a less experienced server might not think to inform the customer of that. And I found it odd that in a restaurant of this caliber, there was only one vegan option listed (and even more surprised that it actually isn't vegan at all). There's nothing wrong with the food and it's certainly unique ( if that's important to you), but there was nothing I tried ( other than the poke guacamole) that I'd make an effort to go back and have again. Came here for happy hour, it's been a few years since I've been back and they renovated the place which looks super nice. Happy hour was from 4-6pm but after looking at the receipt the next day we noticed we were charged full price for a happy hour drink when it was ordered within the time frame. They welcomed us with a non alcoholic drink which was nice and floral. We got the guac, oysters, and salmon maki on happy hour. Loved the guac, oysters were pretty good and the salmon maki was average. I also tried the spicy truffle dynamite which wasn't super special either, little disappointed by the sushi here. Solid service, solid food. Really a 4.5 star review as everything was very good but not exceptional. The dessert; the bomb was fun and a great play on textures and that' was the highest point. However, I have nothing to complain about and I'm a picky nyer, so that's something. The complimentary bread basket is a huge winner; how can you go wrong with cheese bread? The chef's sushi platter was fine, but nothing groundbreaking. The salmon dish was a hair overdone and a touch too salty, but overall a good dish. read more

One of my favorite restaurants now. I had the octopus, hamachi and salmon Nigri, scallops and pork belly, and brownies for dessert. Everything was SO good and I don't think I would order one thing differently. Service and ambiance were amazing! read more
