Booked a reservation for Valentine's Day last night. Chose this place for its ambience and unique flavors. We both love Latin and Asian cuisine so the menu seemed to fit our palate Was seated pretty quick and they handed my gf a rose. Got me extra brownie points for sure (told her I arranged that jokingly lol) The vibe is awesome a dimly lit jungle vibe for the Peruvian inspiration. Good music not too loud like other "high end" spots in Scottsdale that try to do too much. They also had a fire performer in the middle of our dinner which added to the ambiance. We sat inside but the outdoor seating also looked nice. During the day this place would have great views of the golf course I imagine. Onto the food, oysters were great quality, fresh but still briny. Had a pineapple mignonette that complimented well. My gf doesn't like oysters but these were small enough for her to enjoy with the added sweetness. Calamari was also solid, had a great chipotle aioli and ginger scallion oyster sauce on the side. The salmon ceviche was a bit of a let down. More like a crudo if you ask me, but still great flavors. Cocktails were great too! The corn mezcal was super unique. Not the biggest mezcal person but it sounded too good to pass up and definitely glad I tried it. My gf got the pisco sour and it was perfectly tart but refreshing. For mains we got the Lomo Saltado and Salmon. Both were great, Lomo Saltado was super tender and had great flavors. Same with salmon, nothing too unique but still on point Overall all the food was very well seasoned and flavorful. Nothing lacked. Cocktails were good. Service was a bit slow but our waiter (forget his name) was very professional and fun. Gave a ton of recs and was very animated. Worked there for 4+ years if I remember correctly and it showed. Not what I would have expected. We wanted to try something a bit new, reviews here seemed promising. It's a very nice location, sitting right off the golf course. That being said, service was very slow and the food was lackluster. I had the recommended pork and scallops, my wife decided on the lobster fried rice. The pork was basically chunks of pork fat, nearly inedible. The scallops were ok, ended up just skipped the pork. The lobster fried rice was better, but small portions and a very small lobster serving made us wonder how this dish cost $49. We hoped me might finish with a dessert to pick up the mood after a lackluster meal. The salted carmel brownie we decided on wasn't great; tasteless and bland, it just wasn't worth it. All in all, for a two person, $300 meal, there are much better options. Would not repeat and certainly would not recommend. read more

Also the complementary cheese bread was good, also the ginger shots. We got the churrasco, it had alittle bit of everything. Wish the meat was cooked alittle bit more cause it looked raw. Overall à good experience. The hostesses were a bit lackadaisical, and the atmosphere has a touch of sports bar about it. Definitely a good place for families. Our server Katherine was attentive and enthusiastic. I especially appreciated her willingness to rush back to the kitchen to secure the last octopus dish for me. Loved the new bottomless brunch menu offered on Sat/ Sun- what an experience ! Very lovely spot for a high-end dinner, but expect to pay top dollar for the experience. Toro was able to accommodate our very large party of 13. We were seated at such a fun large round table with a center lazy suzy table top in the center. The table was not occlusive so we were all able to easily talk across the table, but still have individual conversations and plenty of personal space. The ambience was lovely with dim lighting that gleamed lovely off the wood accents and decor. The fire dancer was a fun element. The food all looked so yummy on the menu with Peruvian and Argentinian influences. Albeit the prices were a bit high even for Scottsdale. I got the short rib which was exquisite and fall off the bone tender (no knife necessary!). The sweet potato puree was lightly sweet, and perfectly blended with spices. I do not even know where to begin because Toro was amazing. The food, the service, and the ambiance all came together perfectly. The staff was so attentive and friendly that it made the whole night feel like a 10 out of 10 experience. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share and every single one was incredible. The calamari was one of the best I have had, and the octopus was cooked perfectly. I also ordered a mocktail and the presentation was beautiful. The attention to detail is unreal. They even engrave the restaurant's name into the ice cube, which blew my mind. For our entrees we shared sushi. It was good, maybe not as amazing as the appetizers, but still delicious. We were celebrating my birthday and my friend's birthday, and they surprised us with their La Bamba tradition at the end, which was so fun to experience. Everything about this dinner was memorable. The patio overlooks a golf course, the indoor space has moody lighting with a tropical upper scale decor! There was also great live music. The food was alright. I really loved the calamari appetizer and the dipping sauces. For paying over 20 dollars for a sushi roll, it nothing special. The dessert was good. The server himself was a super kind guy, but the service sub par. We had a group of 10, the server recommended a cocktail to someone and didn't bring it over for 30+ minutes after everyone had cocktails, when we followed up about the drink he said they were out of the ingredients but he "knew what to do". We made dinner reservations for a Thursday evening to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant was dimly lit and decorated with plants and beautiful chandeliers. Our server Brent was excellent. We were never left waiting for service. He constantly checked on us and made recommendations from the menu. We started with cocktails including a dirty martini, served icy cold, a passion fruit pisco sour, cuatros coco and the paper playa. All were tasty with the least favorite cuatros coco. The coconut was just overpowering. For the appetizer, we ordered the short rib tacos, sweet corn empanadas and the heirloom tomato & burrata for the table. The appetizers were plentiful for the four of us and all were delicious. We really liked the corn empanadas which were packed with flavor, especially with the accompanying chimichurri sauce. For dinner, the lobster fried rice, scallops and pork belly and the glazed short ribs. My friends loved the lobster fried rice and felt they had a nice portion of lobster. The lobster was cooked perfectly. I felt the short ribs were a little dry even though it was smothered in a glaze. The glaze was just way too sweet for my liking. The short ribs were also sliced like thin medallions which was different. For the birthday girl dessert, we ordered the brownie con helado which was delicious! The dimly lit space, accented with fire dancers and a welcoming crew, creates a lively and memorable atmosphere. Food - The menu is an exciting fusion of Latin and Asian flavors. We started with the tuna guacamole, which I'd highly recommend pairing with your meal. I loved the plantain chip option instead of traditional tortilla chips, and the dish was flavorful overall. We also tried a sushi roll, which was good quality but a bit underwhelming in its ambition for a restaurant of this caliber. They also brought out a complimentary order of gluten-free cheese bread with a sweet and spicy salsa, which was a delicious surprise. For our main course, we ordered the ribeye and the lobster fried rice. The fried rice had great flavor, but the lobster on top was a bit overcooked. As someone with a partner from New England, we tend to be a little critical of our seafood, so that was some key feedback for us. The ribeye came out slightly more well-done than the warm pink center we asked for. It wasn't enough to send it back, but it was noticeable. One thing I really appreciate is that the kitchen doesn't shy away from spice, which adds an authentic kick to their dishes. We also sampled a few of the drinks. I can highly recommend the American Old Fashioned--it's a punchy, robust, and spicy take on a classic. However, my partner's prickly pear margarita was entirely too sweet and couldn't even be finished. Service - The service was excellent. We had a very personable waiter who was attentive and added to our overall enjoyment of the meal. The entire staff was welcoming and friendly, making us feel right at home. Overall - Despite a few minor issues with the food and one of the drinks, this is still a great restaurant that should be on your list for a special night out. It's a kid-friendly place, sure--but honestly, I think there are better restaurant options for families with kids. Ours weren't too into the food (standard kid fare like chicken fingers with fries and mac & cheese) and were way more excited to run around the golf course afterward, doing flips, handstands, and just burning off energy. The adult experience, however, was excellent. My husband, our friend, and I shared a variety of dishes, including the tomato burrata (heirloom tomato, frisée, compressed watermelon, shaved fennel, balsamic reduction), crispy rock shrimp (aji amarillo aioli, pickled chili, crunchy garlic), salmon (kimchee marinade, cauliflower purée, bacon morita chili jam, achiote ponzu, bok choy), and the toro omakase (chef's selection of ceviche, tiradito, maki, nigiri, and oysters). Each dish was thoughtfully composed, beautifully plated, and packed with bold, creative flavors--exactly what you'd expect at this price point. The food was what you would expect with fine dining, but nothing that stands out. For a weekend night I was expecting it to be booked and busy, but it was pretty quiet/not crowded. When our server took our drink orders, it was 45 minutes until we got them (all of us got wine, except 1 person). Also threw me off that this Latin restaurant only has 1 margarita option for $22, and it there was so much going on with the flavors that it didn't even taste like a margarita. When it came to ordering our food, the server came back 2 additional times to make sure he put it in right. At first, I understood he was wanting to get it right, but to keep doing it over and over was unappealing, and made all of us feel uncertain. Plus our party had ordered multiples of the same 2 dishes to share, so it wasn't a complicated order at all. After an hour when the food finally came out, it was room temp-cold. The server didn't provide anyone with steak knives despite us asking multiple times. Therefore we all had to cut our steaks with butter knives. Throughout our dining, we had to wave over other runners & servers that were filling waters at tables behind us to ask them if they can have someone fill our waters, since we only had them filled once when we first sat down. When we were done eating, we asked for the checks at 8pm, our server didn't return with them until 8:45pm. When he came to the table he then left immediately because he verbalized making a mistake & seemed very flustered, then didn't return until 9pm. As he came back we saw him stop at 3 additional tables before coming to ours. Which made us wait even more. As a former server in the industry, it would be much appreciated if he stuck to one task at a time. All that to say, as much as I was hoping to enjoy Toro, I don't recommend dining here again. If you want to pay the $$$ for fine dining, there are plenty of far better restaurants in phoenix & scottsdale that will be of value your time & money. read more

Describing the foods and answering questions Jeff was so helpful. We dined on Christmas Eve so a pre-fix menu was offered as well as the regular dinner menu. I chose the pre-fix menu and my husband chose from the regular menu. We started with the grilled octopus appetizer PHENOMENAL!!! SO tender with just enough spice, by far the best octopus I've had. My dinner started with a seafood soup which included lobster, clams and shrimp. Very flavorful. My husband had the Avocado salad which was bursting with flavor. My entree was a grilled pork chop. It was served off the bine and already sliced, but the bine was there...I took it home!! My husband enjoyed the scallops and pork belly. The scallops were seared to perfection and the pork was juicy and flavorful. We both shared my dessert of tres leches with raspberries. So creamy with a perfect crunch from the crust enveloped in thin chocolate shavings. A perfect ending to an absolutely perfect meal!! What stood out most was the service! From start to finish, we were well attended to. The welcome drink was delicious - made from purple corn, lime juice, and pineapple juice. Patio seating was lovely, even with the heat of the Arizona summers, the outdoor fans with misters kept us cool. Combined with the music, it felt like we were on a tropical vacation. Great ambiance and excellent service. Certain items on the menu are terrific-- like the poke guacamole which is served with plantain chips and the cocktails (if you're a fan of pisco sours, you won't be disappointed). Other items were good, but not amazing-- like the signature sushi rolls which were inspired but just didn't quite come together ( the sashimi is a better bet). The menu is a little hit or miss. The selection is small and the dishes are so overly composed that it's close to impossible to alter anything due to a food allergy without ruining the experience. As someone who can eat cheese and butter but not milk or cream, it was difficult to find anything other than a steak or sushi. I didn't anticipate it would be an issue given that the description of the restaurant says it's Argentinian/Peruvian fusion and neither of those cuisines use much dairy, but even the grilled octopus (which I've had at other restaurants many times, was sitting in a cream-based sauce). If you're vegetarian or vegan, you will likely have the same concerns. I initially ordered the vegan option on the menu (the grilled cauliflower) as I knew that would be dairy-free but the waitress informed me that despite the menu stating it is vegan, it does have a cream-based sauce. I hope they correct that soon as a less experienced server might not think to inform the customer of that. And I found it odd that in a restaurant of this caliber, there was only one vegan option listed (and even more surprised that it actually isn't vegan at all). There's nothing wrong with the food and it's certainly unique ( if that's important to you), but there was nothing I tried ( other than the poke guacamole) that I'd make an effort to go back and have again. Came here for happy hour, it's been a few years since I've been back and they renovated the place which looks super nice. Happy hour was from 4-6pm but after looking at the receipt the next day we noticed we were charged full price for a happy hour drink when it was ordered within the time frame. They welcomed us with a non alcoholic drink which was nice and floral. We got the guac, oysters, and salmon maki on happy hour. Loved the guac, oysters were pretty good and the salmon maki was average. I also tried the spicy truffle dynamite which wasn't super special either, little disappointed by the sushi here. You can't beat the views though, it's beautiful here and the service is overall really good. Had girls night with some friends on Wednesday and made a reservation just in case it was busy. We got there at 7 and it was not too busy but after an hour it filled up more. Between all of us we ordered the Ribeye, Pork Belly and two sushi rolls. Everything was phenomenal! They also had a complimentary mozzarella gluten free bread to start us off with a refreshing non alcoholic juice shot. I don't remember exactly what was in the shot but it was kind of tart and ginger forward. There is a moody atmosphere that is countered by fresh greenery and a boho style theme. The food portions are large and filling and our server was very knowledgeable and tentative. Stayed at the Fairmont for Christmas at the Princess and this was the only restaurant with a dinner reservation. We were kindly greeted by staff and seated overlooking the gorgeous greens on the patio. It was a bit chilly and they didn't have enough heaters, but we made it work.
