This place is honestly such a hidden gem, it is in between a lot of industrial businesses which is an odd place for it to be, but there is an amazing story behind that! They have their own farm with their animals and they actually have a slaughterhouse up the street as well so everything is always fresh! This place has been there since before any of the industrial stuff went up. That's why it is kind of the oddball out in this area! It is extremely large inside the decorations in there are very fitting for a steakhouse! Fun fact John Wayne used to eat there. They have his booth with his pictures up, so that's a pretty cool fact to know! The staff was absolutely amazing so informative. The waiter was probably one of the best I've ever had. He suggested different items on the menu, He told us about the restaurant, and was so helpful and so friendly all the employees were great! Timely on refilling your water and taking the food plates that were empty. It was nice how quickly they took care of everything. They had some amazing jalapeño corn cornbread the 8 ounce sirloin with the Parmesan potatoes and the 8 ounce fillet with Parmesan potatoes were divine! My husband got the house salad that he liked, I got their soup of the day, which was the hatch green chili and chicken soup, which was so hearty and delicious full of flavor. I very much wanted to give the restaurant a 5 star rating due to the exceptional service our waiter "Tom" provided. However we ordered the prime rib for 2 and the meat left much to be desired. It was not as tender as a steak restaurant would usually serve.The portion was very generous for the price but some areas of the serving were hard to cut through. Maybe I'm just spoiled with the quality of the prime rib served at Lawry's. In any event I plan on returning to Stockyards to sample some of the steaks served there. read more

Let's start with the service! My girls and I had a reservation and were seated right away. Our server John was absolutely fantastic. He was enthusiastic and provided a worry free experience. If you had a question, he got an answer. If you needed anything, he got it covered. He provided a very relaxing evening after a long work week. Additionally, all of our food came out in a very timely manner. Now the food. For starters, I opted for the tenderloin chili which was very flavorful. Despite the cheese not looking melted on top of the chili, it was perfectly heated and had a little spicy kick to it as well. The jalapeño honey cornbread was the perfect pairing. For the entree, I went with the filet mignon which was cooked to perfection, medium rare plus. It was flavorful and melted in my mouth. Rarely do I finish a steak in one sitting but I was determined to enjoy every bite. My steak was paired with their parmesan potatoes which was like an elevated au gratin. Both items were very delicious. For drinks I had the copper spur which was a slight riff on a classic gold rush cocktail. For dessert, I had the chocolate mousse which was like chocolate pudding with pizazz. Again, both items were very good. All in all, I would absolutely return. Easy 5/5 for me . read more

The Stockyards is definitely not what it used to be. 20 of us went for a business dinner. The service was good; not exceptional that it used to be, but good. The majority of the entrees were terrible. About half the group ordered prime rib, which was so tough several could only eat a little bit. Complaints to the server went unneeded. She said the manager would come out but never did, and did not take anything off on the bill. When we asked, she said that our group had a minimum spend agreement and we didn't meet it, so had to charge the minimum. Sad. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Phoenix. The calf fries were kinda bloody inside. We shared an 18 oz Delmonico. It was grizzly but wonderful meat flavor I expected a 2" steak and it was not even 1.5". Delmonico are typically 2". Overall we had a wonderful time at the Stockyards and enjoyed our meal! We came to celebrate my birthday. We enjoyed the lowkey atmosphere for a Sunday evening. The elk that my niece got was honestly the best bite most of us tried but all our steaks were cooked to preferred temp and very flavorful. The drinks were well made and the corn bread was tasty. Soups and salad were also good, but the Caesar salad was truly wonderful! Dessert was good but the main standout was the bread pudding. We were in town for one night and had dinner with friends. This place is great - pricy but great. Service was exceptional from start to finish. We had the 16oz ribeyes, two cooked medium and two medium rare. All four were perfect, which rarely happens at steak restaurants. The flavor was very good and the steaks were tender and juicy. Two of us had a loaded baked potato which was a pretty standard potato - hard to mess up, but I always asks for a lot of extra butter and very rarely actually get it. I got plenty of butter. Two had the garlic mashed potatoes, which were also very good. We all had house salads which were fresh and cold and the various dressings (ranch, bleu cheese and orange balsamic vinaigrette were very good. We also shared a basket of onion rings which were excellent - perfect amount of crispy breading and perfect crispiness. For dessert one had pecan pie which was very good. The rest of us had the bread pudding. So - it was good but definitely not like bread pudding we've ever had. It was closer to a slice of marbled cake with ice cream and a drizzle on top. Not bad, just not what we expected or what bread pudding is to us. We'd definitely go back if we are back in town and want an upscale meal. The restaurant itself has apparently been around for decades and the walls reflect some awesome history, which was very cool in itself. This place absolutely knocked it out of the park. We don't usually splurge on fine dining, but for my other half's birthday we decided to make an exception, and wow... we are beyond glad we did. From the moment we walked in, everything was phenomenal. The service was stellar, attentive without being overbearing, and made the whole evening feel special. The atmosphere was the perfect balance of upscale and welcoming, with an incredible vibe that still made our kids feel comfortable and included. Now the food... unreal. Every single thing we ordered was perfection. The steak was hands down the best I've ever had in my life, cooked flawlessly and portioned generously enough that we even had leftovers. The elk medallions were absolutely superb, tender, flavorful, and unforgettable. And the sides? Just as impressive. Every bite was beyond amazing and clearly crafted with care. Back for Round Two! Two weeks in Phoenix and I couldn't resist returning. This time we got the Chateaubriand for two. The salad was delicious. Ordered the Old Fashioned & Still Superb. The Beef Tenderloin was cooked to medium, but was a little rare in the middle. Still melt in your mouth superb steak. I tried it with each sauce and the creamed horseradish was the best. This didn't need any sauce and was perfect. The Parmesan potatoes were good. The Sautéed Button Mushrooms were perfect. The Brussel sprouts were good. Service was good. Looking for a Steak House and the Stockyards Restaurant sounded perfect. Ordered the Old Fashioned with Stockyards Bourbon by Outlaw Whiskey. Perfect Compliment with the steak. Unfortunately, this is not the first time we've had this experience at Stockyards during lunch, and today was the point where we finally decided to leave. Candace was working as the bartender/server, and from the moment we sat down, we felt completely unwelcome. We waited approximately 15-20 minutes without so much as a "hello," "I'll be right with you," or any acknowledgment whatsoever. She looked over at us multiple times, so it was clear that she knew we were there, but we continued to be ignored. We completely understand that restaurants get busy, especially during lunch. We don't expect immediate service, but a simple acknowledgment goes a long way. Instead, the interaction--or complete lack of one--came across as incredibly unkind and dismissive when has been every visit here in the bar. We came in planning to have lunch, drinks, and spend a significant amount of money, but after sitting there feeling unwelcome for that long, we got up and left. What makes this especially disappointing is that we have repeatedly tried to give Stockyards another chance and have had similar experiences. It's a beautiful, established restaurant that we genuinely WANT to enjoy, but no customer should be made to feel like their presence is an inconvenience. The food was delicious and worth the price as everything was seasoned and made fresh. The ambiance is also really good when you have beautiful stain glass windows, great photos around, beautiful designs everything. It can get busy but that's expected when it comes to places like this. I was excited to finally try this place after hearing so much about it. It was my first time in, and I sat at the bar. The bartender started by telling me a bit about the history of the restaurant, which I appreciated and the woodwork around the bar really is beautiful. I was served a bread basket with a variety of breads, but they were barely warm, and some were actually burnt. I ordered a cup of steak soup, which turned out to be the best thing I had all night. For my main, I went with the 14oz prime-grade ribeye, along with creamed spinach and a twice-baked potato. When the steak arrived, the food runner dropped the plate in front of me without a word and walked away. That's a strange touch for an upscale restaurant. I had to ask the bartender what the two sauces on the plate were. He was surprised and a little disappointed that the food runner didn't explain anything, but he quickly fixed it and took care of me. Unfortunately, it was clear the food had been sitting in the window for a while. The steak looked dry and wasn't warm. None of the food was, really. I was hungry and didn't want to hold things up since they were closing in about 30 minutes, so I didn't send it all back--but I did return the creamed spinach. Room-temperature creamed spinach is just unpleasant. The steak was okay at best. For a $75 prime ribeye, I expected better. I took half of it home for breakfast, only to find that a good portion was full of gristle. The bartender was fantastic, and the soup was excellent. Yet, as aforementioned, everything til the moment of having our meal was fabulously superb and as a matter of fact, so was our post dinner time. Both my Wife's and my dinners were steak and as for mine I was especially surprised at the outcome. I ordered a Tenderfoot 8oz cut of Prime Rib, medium rare - yes it was but, I am used to a steak of this type to have been and usually plated, served on a warm platter whereby it retains its warmth when placed at the table. My steak was cold! Not only that, but the knife offered seemed dull enough to have a difficult time cutting through my steak. My Wife's Filet Mignon seemed tasty, appropriately cooked and proper to her, as was our side of asparagus. And I very much appreciated the birthday candled and fabulous tasting Strawberry Shortcake and the overall evening as a whole but could not pass without mentioning my unfortunate prime experience. With over 65 years of steak experience, both cooking and eating them I am well aware of a kitchen's dilemma and value their art and work - I do look forward to a potential next visit. We arrived at 6:00 and were seated immediately I ordered a glass of Felino Malbec which was quite good. The restaurant week menu had what I wanted, so I ordered it. Companion ordered off the regular menu. My dinner started off with salad. Totally frisee with a tiny bit of dressing and a tomato that was not ripe along with a piece of cucumber. I did not enjoy the salad and sent it back partly eaten. Companion had tomato seafood bisque soup which was a little spicy but was enjoyable. Next was the main course. Companion ordered a half rack of baby back ribs. While they were properly cooked they were slathered in a sauce that tasted like it came from the local supermarket. It was served with french fries that were "o.k.". I ordered the prime rib (12 oz) which was cooked exactly the way I wanted it. My side dish was ordered off the regular menu and was the creamed spinach. It was an extra cost, but was worth it. For dessert, my companion ordered the bread pudding. The only way to describe it was terrible. Chunks of what seemed to be chocolate cake mixed in with a strange tasting soggy bread pudding. After a few bites it was left on the table. For myself, I ordered the sour cream cheesecake. The texture and flavor was adequate, but one of the raspberries on my plate had a spot of grey mold on it, which was totally unacceptable. Unlike days of old, they no longer serve honey butter with the bread basket, and it was missed. While cleanliness was apparent, the noise level was uncomfortable and we could barely speak to each other. 4 stars read more

I've come to stockyards restaurant a couple of times now. It is definitely one of our go to locations when we are in town for work. I'm not a local, and I don't know what the other buildings are in this plaza, but it looks like a business park with a lot of different offices. Not sure if that's actually the case, but that's the vibe it gives. Last time we were here, one of the waiters gave us a background of the history of the restaurant and it was very fascinating. The food is pretty good here. For appetizers, it seems like we ordered a lot of them. We had the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp are really big. This trip I went with the prime rib. It seasoned very well and it was super tender. They give you three different cards to choose from. I went with the middle cut only because I know that we had a tendency of ordering a lot of different appetizers and I wouldn't be as hungry as I normally would. The desserts were amazing, we tried practically one of everything. The strawberry shortcake was one of my favorites. The crème brûlée was spot on as well. The pecan pie was fantastic. And the cheesecake was amazing as well. Sorry for not being any help with narrowing down your dessert choices. I did order a root beer float and that definitely was a great way to end the night. I was told that "Chef" didn't allow it! I suggest firing "Chef" and taking care of the customers you are stealing from! When I ask for butter, I needed a cleaver to cut the freezer cold butter! The Stockyard is an institution in Phoenix. Having said that, there is an expectation to the experience you will receive for first time visitors. While the establishment is large and classy on the inside there is an air of confidence and ego to their menu and being an institution. The service is extraordinary and attentive and very accommodating where they can be. Where I have to be honest, for my taste, the food doesn't warrant the pricing for the experience. The menu is very limited but that is to be expected from the STOCKYARD. $20 dollar sandwiches are a little extreme, though the portion and size are generous! We ordered the brisket, Cheesesteak, and Prime Rib all of which were very good but not 5star in my opinion. A cup of steak soup while utterly delicious was $7 and finished in about 7 bites. At the End of the Day - three meals with iced tea cost $92 and that seems extreme for lunch all of which were sandwiches. Again they were good but felt like they were trying to be Scottsdale and not old school Phoenix. read more

We're becoming regulars here, lol! The waitstaff are all excellent we've never had to ask for refills on drinks, they just show up. We feel so watched over here! The decor is so beautiful, old steakhouse fabulous, something interesting to look at every where you look! The seating is comfy.
