Excellent food and History. Loved it. Naturally I had a steak and the bartender makes a very fine old-fashioned.

Over all the service and dinning experience was delightful. The roaring 20's decorative murals on the walls and architecture makes it feel very warm. The steaks are all grass feed and as a traditional steak house all cooked to medium temperature, they will however cook your steak however you'd look if you ask. I got the ribeye, which was good but after seeing the filet mignon I would have opted for that instead. The food was ok, it was definitely cut correctly which you could tell but the tenderness when eating it. Cold water was served immediately and Dan our server came over and introduced himself. He gave us time to look over the menu. Ambiance- as this is now a historical landmark being one of the first steak houses in Phoenix serving the same recipe. As you walk it, the restaurant is clean and gives you a sense of an history with plaques and pictures hanging down the walkway towards the restroom/ bar. Food- crab cake: 5/5- I enjoyed these crab cake as it was packed with lots of real crabs vs fillers. Pic was missing the sauce, but once we got it. It complemented the crabcake really well. Although the food and atmoshere of this restaurant was excellent the waiter was not at all friendly. I felt that we were intruding on his space and he treated our small group of three people with an air of disgust. When we asked him to take a picture of us since we had not seen each other in over 40 years he acted like why are you bothering me with your petty request. The service was amazing. Very attentive server and staff. The star of my dinner was their seafood chowder soup. Omg it was delicious! We've enjoyed the Stockyads since the 70's when there was a cattle operation by the Resturant. Lots of history here. The ambience is formal Western, nicely appointed dining rooms. Service is second to none. As with all our Beef House visits we selected the ribeye steaks and sides. The steak were perfectly cooked and flavorful! Met up with friends for happy hour so my experience was @ the 1889 Saloon section of the restaurant. I loved the ambience, vibe and the service. The food from the HH menu however was disappointing. The Queso Fundido $14 tasted more like warm hummus and the tortilla chips were very bland. Definitely needed some salt on them. 2 prime rib sliders with fries $18 was good, had a good amount of meat. The fries were very dry. Citrus Burnt Crème (their version of crème brûlée)-$14, not on HH menu, was smooth, light, and not too sweet. I'm not a fan of overly sweet desserts so it was perfect for me. It was definitely a fun, cool restaurant to check out, but I don't think I'll return for happy hour as I just wasn't impressed with the food. I saw Elk Medallions on the menu (I love elk) and came here for a work dinner. The restaurant felt like walking into an old time saloon...wood paneling and detailing everywhere. Loved it! Service was great, we had a few waiting on us and they all seemed very knowledgeable. I got the Elk Medallions...I must not have paid attention to the menu because the portions felt more like Elk Strips. While I was disappointed in the portion size they were cooked and seasoned well. The food is good, but I have other streak houses I'd rank higher. In their defense, it is an upscale-ish restaurant . In my defense I could've gotten a nice steak dinner for $40 instead of a half tuna sandwich and a small cup of soup.... My service was great . I would like to come here another time and try some of their steak to see if the quality of their beef is worth it.. For our brother's weekend, we booked a reservation at the Stockyards restaurant in Tempe! It was over the top. The service was incredible; two servers took care of us for our table of 10. And the entire inside was built like an old Western movie. The walls were covered with unbelievable artifacts and pictures of what it used to look like out in the West. As for the food... It was incredible! I saved a ton of room throughout the day by not eating and saved up for this meal. Totally worth it! I ended up getting the clam chowder, a side salad, a side of mushrooms, and some scallops with a medley of veggies. After all, I ended up getting the cheesecake, which was to die for, and a two-thumbs-up meal. My partner and I just finished suit shopping for our wedding coming up and we were running about 15 minutes behind. We called the restaurant and they said not a problem and we were seated quickly upon arrival. The ambiance was pretty dark, like a traditional steakhouse people seemed pretty happy dining there. As many of us helpers know, service is a major part of an experience especially if you are spending a good amount of money. Unfortunately our server seemed more bothered than anything. He didn't give much of a welcoming and at first I thought this was just the way that the servers are. But we soon heard a women server next to us who was a LOT more vibrant and expressive with welcoming the couple, giving them a brief history of the place as well as a run through of recommendations and specials. I don't typically drink alcohol anymore but was considering a glass of wine with my steak and the server just kept coming within like a couple minutes "you want a drink yet" . Which the attitude turned me off of ordering. Luckily the food was great! Awesome rolls to start off including jalepeno corn bread and honey butter. Salads were typical. The venison/wild boar sausages were bomb with great sauces to accent the meats really nicely. The filet mignon were cooked great!( medium rare or order chicken) This could have certainly been a 5 start experience but unfortunately the older gentlemen serving us, didn't make us feel very welcomed so likely won't be returning as their are plenty of other delicious steak places with more light and more welcoming atmosphere. read more

We've wanted to visit the Stockyards Restaurant for years, having been born and raised in Arizona. So, when we visited Phoenix this week, we decided to celebrate two family birthdays there. It was wonderful. The restaurant oozes with history, with interesting decor adorning the walls. The food was spectacular. We ordered the chateaubriand for two, and every bite was lean, tender and delicious. The wedge salad was a great start, and for dessert one of us ordered the sour cream cheesecake and the other ordered pecan pie. Again, every bite was delicious. After living in Phoenix for over twenty years I finally made it to Stockyards for AZ fall restaurant week. The food and drinks were amazing, the waiter seemed a bit grumpy. I had the strawberry cosmo which was perfectly balanced and after two I was feeling no pain. I started with the steak soup which was hearty and delicious and then had the prime rib with loaded baked potato. Second best prime rib after Chelsea's kitchen. Lastly finished with the chocolate mouse and it was a great finishing touch. Aside from the waiter seeming to have a bad night this was great. We arrived about 5:55 and were immediately seated the place was a little over half full, and we were seated in the John Wayne/Barry Goldwater booth. Soon our waiter came out and introduced himself and took our drink orders and brought us a basket of bread and muffins. Soon our drinks arrived and we placed our dinner orders. Two of us had the 8 oz. Prime Rib, the ladies both had the 5 oz. Fillet Mignon, and we all had loaded baked potatoes and salads. The prime rib was cooked a perfect medium rare, it was tender and easy to chew, the baked potatoes were loaded and cooked to a soft texture. I really like their salads since they toss the salad in the dressing keeping it lite. I tried my wife's fillet mignon and it was very tender and flavorful. For dessert we all had the pecan pie and it was just as good as ever.
