After being closed for almost a year, the famous Phoenix Steakhouse is back open and better than ever! The inside still has the same feeling as the original restaurant but has been upgraded to give an even more elevated experience. Perfect restaurant to go to for a special occasion, you will be blown away by the great service and amazing food. We started with the meatballs & calamari. The meatballs were served with the chefs vodka sauce which was delicious. We also shared a Caesar salad, the perfect option for a light starter. I tried both the filet and the NY Strip, the petite filet was the winner to me and extremely tender. Every side we ordered was great, one of the best loaded baked potatoes that I've had!

Not my first time to this Iconic restaurant . Have been coming for years. Decided to do the review as it was my first time since new ownership. Same kitchen entrance and classic red walls. I love the updates without changing the history. Had the pleasure of dining in the old " office" area. Really pretty... it's a tight space with many tables . The servers and food runners were constantly fighting for space to deliver to the tables. But they managed!! The food was great. Wagyu steak... amazing. Sirloins perfect. Branzino... delicious. 2 desserts... as we have our dessert chip for life. !!! Wine and cocktails very good. One star missing. Why you ask? I just can't believe that there is a charge for valet. $8? Really? No I didn't use it... but if I was dropping $700 on dinner... why would you charge for Valet? I find it insulting. Just my opinion... as I would tip the Valet ....

This was an experience for sure. I can appreciate the orchestrated chaos. Lot of moving parts but done very well. Walking in through the kitchen threw me off since the friend that took us there didn't tell us. Super cool! The place is nice and dim, decorated to meet the vibe of a great steak house. Our service was stellar. Great suggestions and great at explaining the menu and questions we had. The food matches the vibe of the place. Really good. Zero complaints. The steaks were cooked perfect to order. My favorite side was the potato's. Great job here!

To be clear, this is a very expensive restaurant. For us, it's a place to celebrate an anniversary. But from start to finish, Durant's absolutely killed it. From the time we walked in, it was excellent. The chefs greeted us and we were immediately seated in a banquette. Soon after we were given sourdough bread and a relish tray. We had a drink and then ordered a wedge salad that we split, the small strip steak with blue cheese sauce, the large filet and Boursin mashed potatoes. They deconstructed the wedge and served it on two plates. Each plate had enough salad for both of us. Maybe the best wedge ever! From there they brought us our steaks on sizzling plates. One big caution: the plates were so hot that the steaks were spitting on us. But we both had one of the top 2 or 3 steaks we ever had. Super tender and juicy. Wow! I used the sourdough pieces to mop up the remaining juice. We did also split a salted caramel gelato. Of course it was also delicious. The service was on point and we had a wonderful time.

Walking through the kitchen entrance at Durant's still feels like stepping into old Phoenix history, and thankfully, even with the Mastro brothers taking over, they were smart enough not to mess with what makes this place iconic. The red velvet walls, leather booths, tuxedoed bartenders, stiff martinis, and classic steakhouse energy are all still there, just a little more polished. You can tell there have been upgrades behind the scenes, but the soul of Durant's feels intact. It still has that Rat Pack, power dinner atmosphere that made it legendary in the first place. Honestly, it would've been easy for new ownership to over-modernize it, and I'm glad they didn't. The steaks were excellent, service felt sharp and professional, and the martinis are still exactly what you want them to be here cold, strong, and classic. The entire experience feels elevated without losing the old-school charm people come for. Phoenix doesn't have many restaurants with this much history and personality left, and it's nice to see the new ownership treating it more like preservation than reinvention.

Great service at the bar. Very good steak. Loved the vodka sauce side. Generous pours on the booze. I'll come back for sure.

Tonight, I celebrated one year of sobriety, and I chose to celebrate myself with a solo dinner at Durant's in Phoenix. From the moment I walked through the iconic back entrance into the kitchen, the experience was nothing short of exceptional. Every single person I encountered greeted me warmly. I had a 7:30 reservation and was seated promptly within minutes. From there, the service was impeccable. Not only was my waiter attentive, but multiple staff members consistently checked on me throughout the evening, making sure every detail of my experience was perfect. Never once did I feel overlooked or left waiting, the level of attentiveness and professionalism was truly top-tier. When drink menus were brought to the table, I mentioned that I was celebrating one year alcohol-free. From that moment forward, the kindness and thoughtfulness shown to me was incredibly touching. Several staff members came by to congratulate me, and by the end of the evening, I was presented with a beautiful strawberry shortcake dessert with "Congrats" written on the plate. Such a small gesture, yet it meant so much. Now let's talk about the food and presentation -- phenomenal. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection, the baked potato was delicious, and even the bread service before dinner felt elevated and intentional. I also requested a ginger beer with a splash of olive brine and olives, and what arrived at my table was not simply a drink, but a presentation. Every detail was executed beautifully and with care. The ambiance, the music, the service, the attention to detail, everything about this evening reminded me what true hospitality looks like. Thank you, Durant's, for helping make such an important milestone in my life feel celebrated, seen, and special. Tonight was unforgettable. -Mika

The restoration kept the soul of the 1950s intact. You still enter through the back kitchen door, walking past the chefs and the heat of the line to reach your table. The menu has been updated and now includes caviar service * Atmosphere: Dim lighting, signature red velvet wallpaper, and plush red leather booths. It feels like a scene out of a Scorsese movie. * The Crowd: A mix of Phoenix "old guard" politicians, couples on romantic dates, and people looking for that classic mid-century glamour. So happy to see this place open again, it's been a favorite for years!

Best birthday experience yet! Thanks to David on 6/20 first time at Durants. I'll be back due to the exceptional service that was given. Attention to detail and making my day feel so special. I didn't have to once ask for my water to be refilled, ask for a cocktail, or even serve my own food! My table was spotless not a crumb left behind. From beginning to end thank you David for your service!

Had a wonderful dinner during the PHX Open. Friday night 8:30pm - place is pretty much full up. New owners have done a great job refreshing the place. Still has plenty of charm. Service was top notch. Menu has been totally reworked and modernized - plenty of options. We had Fried Devil Eggs (excellent) and oysters (super fresh) to start. Shared a 72oz Porterhouse between 4 of us. More than we could eat. Cooked to perfection. Dessert menu features plenty of sweets and after dinner drinks. Highly recommend. N*joy!

We went to Durant's after the remodel really wanting it to be fantastic. It has that reputation and history, and I went in hoping for one of those classic, memorable steakhouse nights. This ended up being a tough review for me because there were some real positives, but some things not so great too. I always try to keep my reviews consistent and trustworthy, so I'm honest, transparent, and hold every place to the same standards. So here's the real deal... *Service: the service was very good overall. Brandon was our server and Cohen was the server assistant. Brandon was friendly and attentive and stayed on top of things, he just came across a bit robotic at times and leaned slightly toward upselling. Cohen was extremely friendly and personable and took great care of us. The manager, John, came by and was genuinely interested in making sure we had a good experience. When I gently and honestly responded to his question about our food regarding the issues with my steak, he and Brandon offered to bring me a different cut. I chose to keep the ribeye and work through it, hoping it would improve. They later sent us home with a piece of chocolate cake on the house for the misses, which was generous and appreciated. The team clearly cared about making sure we had a good experience and I respected that. *Food: this is where things weren't stellar. The Caesar salad with the poached egg was excellent. They split it for us and it was fresh, chilled, and really enjoyable. The sourdough bread was also very good. Warm, steamy, soft and chewy inside with a very crunchy crust that was honestly a bit too tough, but flavorful. It came with whipped salted butter and olive oil, plus a small crudité plate with olives, pickles, and radishes, which was a nice touch. My 22 oz wet aged ribeye was a disappointment. It was cooked to the proper medium rare in the center, but overall tasted dry and bland. There was a chewy, gristly section near the fat cap and not enough marbling throughout to keep it moist. On my scale it was a 5 out of 10, especially considering the high price. Ribeye relies heavily on fat quality and proper rendering and needs careful attention. Filet mignon is typically the most ordered steak and often gets the most consistency and focus in a kitchen. Two others at our table ordered the filet mignon and loved theirs, rating them around a 9 out of 10 and saying they were great. That made me wish I had ordered the filet mignon as well. The scalloped potatoes were excellent. Cheesy, rich, creamy, and layered beautifully. The roasted brussels sprouts were fair. Nice smoky pork, but the sprouts were small, lacked char, and didn't have much flavor or pop. Just flat tasting. The walnut and chocolate old fashioneds were excellent. My Cabernet Sauvignon was just okay, disappointing for a glass near $25. *Ambiance: the room is beautiful in a classic old-school way. Dark, warm, very 1950s steakhouse. The renovation looks great. That said, it was extremely dark, hard to see across the room and even at our table. Our table location was also a problem. We were seated right next to the busing station where the lavender towels are steamed. The lavender smell was extremely strong and lingered over our table the entire meal, which affected how the food tasted and was overwhelmingly unpleasant all night. This table is also near the end of the bar and it was extremely loud. Much louder than reasonable for a space with velvet wallpaper and leather booths. We had to yell and concentrate on hearing each other to talk at our own booth. Between the noise, the darkness, and the strong lavender smell, the evening ambience was less enjoyable than it could have been. *Value: this is an expensive night out by most standards. We were roughly $280 per couple, close to $600 for the table. The cost alone wasn't the issue. The noise level, the darkness, the mediocre steak, and sitting in a cloud of lavender smell all took away from the experience and made the overall value feel low for that price point. *Overall: this was a mixed experience for me. There were definite highlights. Great service, excellent Caesar salad, fantastic scalloped potatoes, strong cocktails, and others at the table loved their meals. My ribeye, combined with the table location, strong lavender smell, darkness, and noise level, made it a three star experience for me. I can see how this place might deliver a five star night for some tables, and maybe we just had a mediocre cut and a tough seating location. I'd like to believe that's possible. I would consider trying Durant's again someday, but given the price and how this visit went, I can't imagine when that will be. Would be expensive and disappointing to have a similar experience.

The New Durant's: A "Steak 44" Soul in a Vintage Shell? Having visited for my birthday in January '24 and returning this year (Jan '25) under the new ownership, the evolution of Durant's is undeniable. While the quality remains high, the "Old School" soul has definitely shifted toward a more polished, modern Steak 44-style experience. If you're a purist who loved the specific seasoning and prep of the old Durant's ribeye, you'll notice a difference. The steak is still delicious, but the preparation feels more aligned with the Mastro family's other concepts. It's excellent beef, but it has lost a bit of that unique "Durant's dust" that made it a standalone legend for decades. Despite the shift in style, they've kept (and added) some heavy hitters that you won't find at Steak 44 or Ocean 44: * Hanging Bacon: A showstopper appetizer that is as much about the presentation as the flavor. * Crispy Bone-In Veal Parm: Massive, decadent, and perfectly executed. * The Classics: They still offer Prime Rib and a fantastic Vodka Sauce that feels like a nod to traditional red-sauce joints. The service remains world-class. Our server, Matt, was the highlight of the night--incredibly knowledgeable, attentive, and he surprised us with a complimentary birthday dessert that made the evening feel special. Interior-wise, the "bones" are the same. It's still the red vibe we love, just slightly rearranged and refreshed with new-yet-vintage decor. However, a major "Yelper Beware": the tables are quite narrow and can feel cramped. If you're used to the sprawling booths at Steak 44, this will feel significantly tighter. The food is great, but for my money, I'd rather visit Steak 44. There isn't quite enough of a quality gap to justify the drive downtown just to sit at a cramped table. It's a beautiful tribute to the original, but the experience now feels like a "B-side" to their Camelback location.

Had a chance to have dinner at Durant's last night. We finally were able to get a reservation for Saturday at 4:15PM. We entered through the Kitchen and the greeting by kitchen staff was friendly. Our party of six was seated quickly in the bar dining area. Our server Megan was eager to assist and gave a complete review of the menu (all staff were great). I was surprised that they were willing to split orders and customize too. My wife and I split the delicious and perfectly cooked 22 oz. Prime rib; still brought some home. Everyone else had steaks and scallops. What a great new Durant's!

    Ask the Community - Durant's

Was this restaurant closed for a while?

Yes. I don't have the exact dates, but the owner's sold the restaurant and it was closed for updating and remodeling. It re-opened in December of '25.

I saw a review about getting denied entry for dress code. I didn't see anything on the website either. What is the dress code? I'm from out of town so only have a nice shirt, jeans and some fancy sneakers (high end Jordan's), does that work?

Are they open any day at all for lunch?

We will be open for Friday lunches starting January 16th at 11:00.

I know the place is closed Monday and Tuesday. I called Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at different hours.. 10am, 11:30am, 2pm, 5pm, 8pm... I keep getting their voicemail stating to call back at 10am. Any help?

It's hard to put into words how great this place is. Have you ever been somewhere when everything…read morejust feels "right, balanced, happy"? That is Farish House. The cozy, intimate comfort of what used to be Coup des Tartes blended seamlessly with the deep, peaceful, gentle "love" you felt from House of Tricks into one calm, warm, easy spot. Farish House is a real, soul-warming experience across the board. The service, care, comfort, ambience, food, value and clear love they put into everything make Farish House our new favorite place. We walked through the front gate, up onto the front porch and inside where we took one of three small tables in the cozy front salon of this soul-warming 1899 French Bistro. *Food: we started with a bottle of Australian Cab. Shockingly good. And not crazy expensive, especially on Thursday when bottles are 30% off, it was an amazing deal. Turns out, the owner, Greg, was in the wine distribution business for several decades, curating wine programs for top Valley restaurants, so he really knows his stuff and their vast wine selection is amazing. We were offered a basket of truffle popcorn, mmm, salty, crunchy, and rich. We ordered the Chef's Selection Charcuterie and Warm Noble Baguette & Marinated Olives to get started. Both were beautifully curated, balanced, and incredibly high quality. The flavors and textures blended perfectly. with cheeses broken from large wheels, rather than cut and sliced, house-made pickled grapes, unique and unusual ingredients, smokey meats, compound butters, just awesome! We then moved into one of the cozy dining rooms and ordered the slow roasted Peposo Short Ribs and fingerling potatoes pan fried in duck fat served with Moroccan spiced aioli. Both were rich, warm and delicious. For dessert, and yes we thought we'd explode from all this food, we ordered a massive slice of bread pudding, some of the best I've ever had, rich, gooey and incredible. Along with that we ordered a beautiful Espresso Martini and an off-menu banana cream martini. Their drinks are not "poured" or mixed here, they're balanced and expertly crafted. This is French Bistro comfort food at its finest and it's unmistakeable. *Service: it just doesn't get better. Everyone working there is "family". And that's how they make you feel; like family, cared for, wanted, welcomed. Service isn't a choreographed masterpiece, no tuxedos, cloths draped over arms, napkins frantically re-folded when you step away, dishes served and cleared in unison. No, it's relaxed, warm, friendly, kind, like being at your grandmothers house and knowing you're surrounded by people who care. Met Greg and Katherine, the owners, and their daughter Alexandra and several other "family" members taking care of us. Their appreciation for your presence is unmistakable. *Ambience: it's just plain comfy, cozy, easy, relaxed, warm, deep, gentle, worn (in a good way), wise, and calm, that's the best I can describe it. Hard wood floors, cozy rooms, soft, warm lighting. It's a non-pretentious, French bistro that feels like the home of a favorite grandma or great aunt living in a warm family cottage in the outskirts of Paris. *Value: it's perfect. It's not ridiculously expensive like Kai, Brinkley's, Cafe Monarch, Christopher's, or French Laundry where you go, "okay, that was fun but we'll only do this very occasionally/rarely and it's probably worth it, but dang that was pricey!" No, Farish House is 100% value to experience, not cheap, but not overpriced, the balance is just right. It's a place you can go often, and we will. Yes, our meal with apps, drinks and dessert, some on happy hour and the Thursday wine special, was around $200. I'd happily say this experience was worth every penny. *Overall: I can't recommend Farish House highly enough. Parking is on the street or in a nearby lot, and that's a downtown thing. There's a small lot in back. The food, ambience, service, quality, and experience were stellar. I wish I could rate them 6 stars instead of just 5. I'll return often and highly recommend Farish House to everyone. I genuinely hope you enjoy as much as we did!

I don't believe the server knew how to handle the less than formal style of the group I was with, but they did not turn us away and provided phenomenal service. The drinks had elegant garnish, and were well made. The most complicated might have been a vodka soda, but the additional touch was nice. For a start we ordered the oysters, which was kept everyone stuck between being nice and fair, and wanting to take all for themselves. We also ordered the octupus which was very good. For my main, I had the salmom rillete. Well made and pesented - I only thought to take pictures after I ate. Our group was never rushed for the bill and we enjoyed a beautiful evening sitting on their porch. I am looking forward to going back more "prepared" and enjoying their seabass or beef bourguignon.

I chose to sit at the bar, which turned out to be the best decision. I tried the oysters, the escargot, and the burnt Madeleine dessert--each one was absolutely delicious. But the highlight of my experience was the bartender. He was young, charismatic, and made such great conversation. As a visitor, he made me feel genuinely welcome, which really elevated the entire experience. I believe his name was John C. (though for some reason I thought it was Liam!). Either way, he was fantastic. The gimlet he made incredible and expresso martini even better. I would highly recommend this restaurant--definitely sit at the bar if you can!

Maybe 40 seats in a quiet, quaint and unassuming restaurant. The chef's tasting menu has six incredible dishes. There was no menu and the portions were generous. Great combinations, unique pairings, flavors that left you wanting more and beautiful presentations. No photos tonight as the camera was not eating first. Relaxing, able to converse and not rushed, all made this our best dining experience in Phoenix in a long time. Thank you to the chef and the staff. We were blown away with this gem in downtown Phoenix. Don't wait, book the chef's tasting menu at Flour and Thyme. You will be taken to a dining destination in the desert you won't forget.

It's chef, Ivan Jocobo, opened Flour & Thyme in it's place. You can still see "Anhelo" on the glass above the entry door. The decor is lovely, with green and cream colors, and lots of plants. You can see into the kitchen. There is a full bar, and a huge selection of wines. Hubby was very disappointed that they were out of the branzino and that he had to settle for his second choice. We ordered: *Love Note (cocktail with Foie Gras-Fat Washed Scotch, Very Old St.Nick Harvest Rye Whiskey, Calvados, Benedictine, Port, Bitters) *Amaretto Sour (my favorite cocktail with the best egg white foam I've ever had) *Tortellini in Brodo *Lasagna This would make a perfect first date (or any date) place. The service is fantastic, the ambience is intimate, and the food is delicious.

The service was just as amazing, friendly, attentive, and welcoming, and the food was just as fresh and delicious. Prices are still super reasonable, which makes it an even better go-to. Our favorite is the Forno 301 pizza, always a must-order. We also loved the wine selection, and of course, you can't skip the limoncello to finish. Highly recommend if you're looking for a delicious, affordable meal with great service!

An extra treat was that they have bottles of spicy oil on the tables, so I was able to enjoy the crusts by slathering them with the tasty oil as though they were breadsticks. On the way out, after mentioning to the bartender how good the oil was, I was gifted a couple of condiment cuplets to-go, which was a thoughtful and nice touch and sort of made up for the server who wasn't particularly warm or informative as I had to ask about the specials and whether or not all the pasta is freshly made, etc. Heck, if you have a great selling point like homemade pasta, talk it up and get us to drooling! There is a variety of seating available, including outside and at the bar--bar has an inside section as well as outside which is a nice design for the lovely weather days. However, it's unfortunate that the outdoor seating is on such a busy traffic corner, so it's not the little retreat it would otherwise be. The lunchtime music was more like happy hour music, not conducive to conversation--maybe for the cellphones-at-the -table crowd it's okay, but being near the Phoenix Art Museum and Arizona Opera, why not add to the cultural experience of the area by celebrating its Italian origins with some Italian music? Even if just added as interludes during every few pieces, it would enhance the ambiance. We had to raise our voices to carry on our conversation, but it was manageable. However, when I came back the next week with a friend with a hearing impairment, it became more problematic. She tried adjusting her hearing aids, but the thumping rhythm kept taking precedence as we tried to find a quieter corner, but it wasn't possible as it is a small space and speakers were close to each table. I felt so bad that she couldn't enjoy a meal there--we both were so looking forward to having a fresh pasta dish, but just couldn't stay. Upon leaving, I felt I should let management know why so I waited to speak to him, offering constructive criticism about the sound level but he was not the least apologetic nor said he would take it under advisement, but was completely dismissive and harrumphy as though we were annoying problems and not potential regulars with suggestions worthy of consideration. How hard would it be to have a quieter area or make a speaker accessible with volume control? People, whether on the spectrum, with hearing impairments, or just lovers of good conversation deserve respect and when it is not given, will go elsewhere....

I ordered the ham eggs Benedict while my company ordered the Eggs Any Style which included bacon, breakfast potatoes, and sourdough toast. We both enjoyed a Bloody Mary. The Benedict was lovely in presentation and taste but the portion was not enough to be filling. I would recommend adding a side of breakfast potatoes to round out the dish. My counterpart throughly enjoyed his meal with the note that the side breakfast potatoes were perhaps a little too crunchy. Overall, this place is a vibe and definitely a cool spot to bring someone visiting from out of town. You order at the counter, and they do ask for a tip, but after the lack of service we received, I'd say it's best not to leave a tip in advanced since you don't know what service you will get. My personal opinion, bring cash if you want to tip. We received our food, and truly did not get checked on once. I had to get up to ask for a drink refill. Again, the restaurant was not busy and there was plenty of staff. The place itself is cool and I do plan to come back to give it another try. Hopefully it will be a better experience.
