Pina Colada
Armando S.

Absolutely delighted by the new empanada menu--every bite felt like a little celebration. The picadillo was perfectly seasoned, rich yet balanced, with a comforting depth that kept me going back for more. The ropa vieja brought a beautiful tenderness and bold flavor that made it just as unforgettable. Paired with a frozen piña colada, the whole experience was elevated to something truly special--refreshing, indulgent, and downright joyful. If this is the new standard, I'll be coming back again and again.

Loved it here. When you walk into the restaurant, it's like you walked back in time to the 50's in Cuba. I love eating tapas style so I can try everything. Some of the dishes had a little spin to it. I was expecting one thing and it came back different but that's not a bad thing. It was still very good. Everything we ordered was great. I would definitely come back. I drove all the way from Scottsdale to here to try this place and I'm very happy.

It's been awhile since we had been to Coabana. There have been some changes since the last time we were there. There is definitely a Cuban feel here. Across the back of the bar are large gold banana leaves - so cool! There are little niches in the wall in front of the booths with painted tiles that form pictures of palm trees and parrots. The walls are pink and the checkered floors look perfect with the Cuban theme. There are some large paintings on the wall. And Pit Bull watches over everything from up high. Our server, who was the bartender, was super friendly. This is a bar with food, rather than a restaurant. It looks like a lot of the classic drinks have the usual liquor retrieved with rum--and I love it! We had: *Bay of Kings (cocktail) *Beach Better Have My $$$ (cocktail) *Pork Masitas with plantain chips *Cubano The drinks were delicious and really presented in a fun way. My drink even had an edible dollar bill attached. The food was good, and the Cubano was really big. I like this place a lot. I've enjoyed coming back each time and will continue.

Ceviche

This place is my jam, if it screams tropical, I'll be there! Hand me a pina colada and I'm a happy camper! I love how close this place is to phx arena, this will definitely be my place before any concert or game. Their pina colada was delicious, add the rum float! My friend ordered their original mojito, she enjoyed her drink too. It was very fresh and not too sweet. We shared the ceviche with half plantain chips and half tortilla chips. Next time, I would only order the plantain chips. They are so delicious. The ceviche was fresh and full of flavor. We also shared the guava and cheese empanadas, yum!!! I loved the cream cheese and guava together with the chipotle dipping sauce. Beautiful handmade empanadas for the win. We sat at the bar and had a wonderful bartender helping us, very friendly and knowledgeable on their menu. Thanks for a great experience, See you next time!

Coabana is a vibe!!! It's a Cuban inspired, lounge with a tropical feel. It's cozy, and makes you feel like you're in Miami or what I picture Havana would be like. We went to grab food and drinks before the Lainey Wilson concert. It's the perfect location because it's super close to Phoenix Arena, only a few blocks away. The drink menu is fun, lots of RUM drinks! I had the Coabana Mojito and my friend had the Pina Colada. Both were delicious and looked so good too! The food menu is full of Cuban dishes with latin flavors. We ordered the ceviche with a combination of plantain and tortilla chips. The ceviche was fresh, with lots of flavor. Next time I would order it with all plantain chips. They were crunchy, slightly sweet, but also savory and salty, yum! We ordered the Guava and Cheese Empanadas, they were delicious and came with a side of chipotle dipping sauce. We will definitely be back! The service was great, very friendly! I want to try the Yuca fries and a key lime pie shot. My husband has his eye on the Cubano sandwich. This place is a must try!

Cubano sandwhich

Only came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. Yes, the space is cute and Instagram-worthy, but that's where the positives end. I am usually not the type to write low reviews, but I am very upset with the dining experience. Ordered the Cubano sandwich for $16, and let's just say it was all looks, no flavor. Way overpriced for what tasted like a sad deli sandwhich. The plantain chips were also so salty. Service was so inefficient and they charged a 20% gratituity for our party when they barely checked in on us. They probably knew that since our party was so huge that they didn't need to tend to us bc of the automatic gratituity per their policy. Had to keep looking for a server to just get a glass of water refill. Also the water was very very smelly like sink water. To top it off, they don't validate parking. So not only do you get a mid meal, you also get hit with a $30 parking bill. Hard pass. Would not recommend.

Always a favorite place to go to when downtown . A quaint little place with old school Miami vibes . I love sitting at the bar and watching them create colorful libations .Having grown up in a Latin family , it's super hard to find any authentic food here is the valley and this one is a hidden gem worth seeking out if your down town on and adventure There is also a speakeasy next door which makes it a fun destination on many levels

Must try their Key Lime shot! Stephen mixed up a couple for us and you will not be disappointed. Amazing. He also recommended the Banana Guava Bread pudding which we shared and was delicious. Great vibe, highly recommend.

You say Cuban food, I'm always in. Small Miami vibes spot in downtown, there is a couple of tables outside but most seating is inside. Staff is friendly. The drinks were good, the piñatas colada was on point. The nachos, empanadas, ropa vieja, maduros were good. I wouldn't say it's super authentic Cuban food but it was good. Overall good experience.

Let me tell y'all something... the drinks, the drinks, the drinks!!! But before we get into that, let me say--the food was amazing. I've never had Cuban food before, but somehow it still tasted so comforting, like I've had it my entire life. Just delish! My friend and I sat outside to enjoy the downtown air. As you all know, downtown has some crazies so just keep that in mind if you choose to sit out there. Still, I really enjoyed my experience. The service was a tad slow, but I didn't mind at all--we were having such a great conversation. Also, the bathroom was super clean, which I appreciated. The food was a little pricey, but worth every bite. Now let's talk about these DRINKS. I absolutely love how unique and aesthetically pleasing they were. If you're coming here, you must get a drink--I DEMAND YOU GET A DRINK! You will not regret it. Such an amazing location, and trust me--I WILL be back.

We went here before a concert and it was super convenient. The food was really good and flavorful. We enjoyed the empanadas and croqueta. The ropa vieja was super flavorful although the meat was slightly dry.

Pork Masitas

A good time here at Coabana. This place has beautiful decor and is successful with giving a fun Cuban vibe. Music had me dancing in my seat as I enjoyed eating and my drink. Service with Kat was the best. She was very helpful with helping me to choose a cocktail. The Chan Chan was so good. The Tapas I tried was the Pork Masitas and Picadillo Beef Empanadas. These were so tastey. I loved the roasted pork over the guacamole. So much flavor. The fresh fried plantains were super good. Everything tasted authentic and left me wanting more. Perfect area in downtown cityscape Phoenix. It's definitely one of my top 10 cocktail places that I look forward to returning to soon.

Ask the Community - Coabana

Does this restaurant have its own parking lot?

They do not. They are located in downtown Phoenix surrounded by several parking garages. I'm not sure if they still validate.

Happy hour schedule?

When I visited the waitress said they don't have happy hour.

Would this place be fit to casually celebrate a 21st birthday for around 7-11 people (do not need seating together or anything)? Additionally, is this place 21+? Thank you !! :)

Yes for a 21st birthday but I think it is 21+ since it is a bar/lounge. I would get there early, they do fill up fast.

Is there honey in any of the food items? We want my son to try some things but he is under 1 year and can't have honey. Thanks!!!

I don't eat any kind of sugar, sweeteners or honeys. They are very knowledgeable about allergies and ingredients. We get their plantain chips and fritters, there is a pork,… Read more

It was busy, but not packed, which made the service stand out more than it should have. I had to ask for water twice, never got a refill, and overall felt largely ignored--minimal eye contact, no real warmth, just an impersonal feel that didn't match the space. It felt like a place that may be a bit of a victim of its own success--popularity has grown, but delivery hasn't fully kept pace. Part of the appeal here is the permanent taco truck outside, which I know from past visits is excellent, and I love the truck's outspoken, unapologetic support for immigrants. That said, the cocktail itself was excellent. I was specifically looking for a coffee-based drink before heading to another event, and the Cambures al Estilo Foster delivered on flavor. It was tiny, though--served in a small stemmed glass, gone in a few sips. It did the job, but some may find the portion underwhelming for the price. No major complaints, but nothing pulling me back either. I'm adding a fourth star on a bit of a hunch--I'd like to think they can dial it back in if I return.

The restaurant itself is hidden inside another called Coabana, but there is a door clearly labeled Cocktails to get to it. It was perfect to converse and enjoy drinks with friends! This time we went with some friends, and each of us could not stop talking about how good everything was! We started with In To The Blue shots for the table, which were so good we wished we had sipped them. Then we ordered our first round of drinks and food. We shared a plate of nachos and they had the perfect balance of toppings and chips, then my partner and I ordered some tacos and a Cubano Sammie. The sandwich was delicious, much better than the average Cubano I've come across in Phoenix. The tacos were also great, and $11 for 3 was a steal! Our friends also got tacos, which they enjoyed. My partner ordered Cupid's Dagger and the Insomniac to drink, and she loved both of them! Cupid's Dagger was also served with a bubble of smoke and it was on a little silver tray, which was cool.
