Wow what an experience. Went last night for dinner after it being on our list for far too long. Started out with the grilled panela and that salsa really started the taste bud fireworks. From there we moved to maduros with beans and crema. The sweet and savory combination we T so well together. Next was the scallop hamachi. That sauce and the salsa matcha made this dish really stand out. Such a great combo. Now on to the mains. Wifey had the lamb mole de la casa which literally slapped. I went with the smash burger after really wondering if that was the right move. Omg it was. That burger was pure greatness. I'd put it up with the top burgers in the city easy. Can't believe it but we added a dessert. It was so fire. Elote cheesecake. We had the ice cream version of this at carry on and this cheesecake version was also phenomenal. Not flavors you'd think of but at first bite you are in love. Chilte you were far better than we could've guessed and we thank you all for doing what you do. Can't wait to go back. read more

We (myself and two teens) made reservations in advance and reviewed the menu for myself and my kids. We researched the dishes and looked at images on yelp of the dishes to ensure we ordered items we would like. When we arrived (Mother's Day), they had changed the menu to a limited (small) brunch menu. I checked in advance the website for changes and I had checked on open table for any Mother's Day menu changes being reported: none! It was extremely disappointing to drive all the way downtown to find they changed the menu for today. We stayed since we drove so far and I ordered a burrito. Please see pictures of my "burrito". Needless to say, after being served two taquitos they called a burrito, I didn't feel comfortable ordering any other food dishes. My son had potato tacos that he added beef to and he found tasty. My daughter didn't care for any of the choices but settled for the pancake. Just another level of disappointment after doing so much research to make sure there were dishes that we all could have enjoyed. We would not have gone had we known they changed the menu. I won't go back after being misled to order two taquitos. Our server was nice and I'm sure she knew we were disappointed the menu had been changed. Chilte is such a find. They have great drinks and amazing food. I am not a huge mole fan, but they are known for their mole. I had their mole and it's good but again not my cup of tea. My favorite menu item is the vampiro and whatever special cheesecake they have. This place is unassuming, it's by an older hotel. The servers are very knowledgeable and friendly as well. Great spot! My partner comes here often for the Mezcal selection, he thinks it's one of the best in Arizona. The menu is small, but I enjoyed everything we had. We got the seasonal salad, the Vampiro, the burger, Birria tacos and the scallop tostada. I don't normally like scallops, but on this, they were sliced really thinly and I enjoyed it. The burger was also really good with a unique sauce. The servers were also really nice and really knew their stuff about the menu and the Mezcals. I definitely come back, especially if they have irritating items on the menu so I could always try something new! read more

Great dinner at Chilte for our first time! First, our server was tremendous as he could tell we were a little nervous with the menu and ordering drinks. Took time to talk thru the drinks, food and explain the story of the restaurant. If management/ownership is reading this, we forgot his name (facepalm) but he was great! (5:30PM res. on 8/7) The chef's rotating small was delicious! We then moved on to the tostada which was amazing and the scallop crudo. The scallops were insanely good! Like, just melt in your mouth and the flavor from the granite melon was unreal! My wife got the baja fish tacos and I got the lamb lollipops. Again, both tremendous! Lastly, we devoured the amazing cheesecake for desert! Can't wait to come again as we both want to try the chicken as we saw it go by a couple times. read more

Loved the vibe when we walked in. It's eclectic, and cozy. The music was not too loud. We ordered the pablanito and ponche margaritas. My second round I ordered the white/rose sangria. We started with the plantain and refried beans with crema starter. Then we decided to try the fried yucca. We ended up with the MSG chicken. They had two choices of meat tonight for that dish. The other choice was the pork chop. For dessert hubs ordered a shot of espresso and we tried the elote cheesecake. It was ALL ridiculously good! Our server was attentive and helpful. I tried to go here a few months ago and wasn't able to get in due to not having reservations. This is a very small dining space with table seating and a small patio. It's in the parking lot of a hotel so the parking lot is reserved for those staying at the hotel, so plan for street parking! We were able to find a spot across the street luckily. Our server was really cool and knowledgeable about the menu. I do think they should probably give a good blurb about their restaurant when you come though... I only say this because when ordering, he asked me "do you want grasshoppers on that?" I thought he was joking, lol, but when I repeated it back, he casually was like yeah we have grasshoppers and bugs and things all over our menu. This is so different and I just wish I knew more. I opted not to get the grasshoppers that night though lol . The food is pretty pricey. We got a $32 tostada which was good, but did seem to be a smaller portion for that price tag. We also got the quesadilla which I saw on social media and really wanted to try. It was indeed fresh and unique. My husband said it tasted "healthy". I liked my smash burger and the quesabirria tacos weren't too bad for a couple like us who have a love-hate relationship with birria. The miso consommé it came with was so light clearly reminiscent of flavors I could t out my finger on. My husband thought it tasted like tea, but it had a savory kick to it. I do wish it was a little thicker, but maybe it would have been better to pour it rather than try to dip the taco. The drinks were great! Finally made it to Chilte and wow, this place knows how to make an impression. I ordered the House Sangria, Yucca Frites Antijoles, and the Quesa Birria Tacos with beef on squid ink corn tortillas. Every dish was packed with flavor and creativity. The tacos were especially memorable, rich, tender beef wrapped in those striking black tortillas? Yes please. The sangria was smooth and refreshing, and the yucca frites had a great texture and seasoning. Honestly, everything was phenomenal. Shoutout to Alex, our server, he made the whole experience feel like hanging out with friends. Attentive, relaxed, and genuinely welcoming. Only reason it's not five stars? Ooh wee... Chilte! What a delicious meal for our foodie friend time. Fellow Yelper Scarlett M. and I braved the afternoon heat for a very pleasant and fun meal in Phx. We both had Chilte on our radar and we were not disappointed. The flavors are so good, very unique, and in depth. We ordered a few different items and then shared them, that way we could try as much as possible. We had a reservation and were offered a table or bar seat. I personally like sitting at the bar. I know that I'll be ordering cocktails when I go out, so the bar is a straight line to the booze and my mouth ;) I really enjoyed my cocktails at Chilte. They were well balanced drinks, spirit forward, and added an element of novelty since many of the spirits used were things I had never had or even heard of before. I had a familiar drink to start- the Carajillo, this iteration with Sotol. It was really good. After that I tried the Oro Quemado which contained a spirit I wasn't familiar with- Aguardiente (a spirit fermented and distilled from fruit or sugar cane. The name can be loosely translated as "fire water"), this version made of Plantain-koji. This drink had a lot of flavors. I enjoyed it. For food, we split the santa quesadillas with chapulines (grasshopper), quesa Birria tacos, and the smashy burger, and a small bite of corn. The consumme of the Birria was great, rich in flavor and drinkable on its own. The quesadillas come wrapped in some type of bitter green plant. I ate part of the greenery but then decided to remove it. And I know it sounds lame, but the double smash burger was unreal. Just didn't seem like an item that would be on this menu. I was told the story on why having some type of burger takes valuable space on a small menu-- simply, the chef loves it and has been known to eat a burger after a busy shift. That's comfort food at its finest! The meat in the burger had so much flavor. The salsas, sauces, & house made tortillas on the other dishes, were awesome. We were offered to try dessert but we had our hearts set on ice cream at Novel across the street. Dang, after reflecting on it, I want that burger again. Next time! read more

What a great first experience for a Saturday dinner. My sister recognized Chef LT Smith from the Food Network cooking competition '24 in 24' and said let's go to Chilte. I made reservations and the only seating available for 5pm was at the counter since mostly all the other seating was booked for that time. Upon entering it was bright, cozy, with an energetic vibe. The hostess sat us at the bar counter and that's where we met Alex, our bartender/server. He was super amazing. He welcomed us as we sat down. Whike he was making drinks and interacting with us, he went over the drink menu. The seasonal Guava Margarita caught my attention, so I ordered that and it was so refreshing. Alex went over the food menu in detail and suggested his favorites. There was much to choose from, but we started with the Antojitos - Yucca Frites. OMG I think I may have had yucca fries once before from a different restaurant but they did not come close to how excellent these tasted. The batter was nice and Flaky. The Yucca was soft but not mushy. So good especially with the aioli dipping sauce. I ordered the Mole de la Casa with oxtail for my main entree. These flautas were crispy crunchy on the outside with tender oxtail on the inside. The meat was a tad bit underseassoned but the Mole sauce helped with that. As much as we wanted to try the Baklava Cheesecake we were stuffed. I saw it being served to another table and my mouth began to water. So it's ob my list for next time. I did stop in the restroom to wash my hands and it was a single restroom for all genders. Super clean and decorative inside. Wow, wow, wow! I finally made it in for dinner with some girlfriends and we had the best meal. This is such a hidden gem in PHX. If you're reading this - just go! You will love it. Throughout the meal, I sipped on their mango bacanora cocktail that was incredible and the paloma. I recommend splitting everything because you can't just pick one thing. There were 4 of us and we split their appetizer trio (a must), yuca fries, quesadilla (subbed with vegan cheese and you'd NEVER know/it was so melty and delish), birria tacos (my fav thing), and shrimp ceviche (insane!! so colorful/a true foodie work of art). Great spot in Phoenix serving delicious food and the space inside is adorable and trendy. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, but I would try to sit indoors just because the art and decor are great to look at. The food came out fast and our waitress was very helpful in helping us decide what to order so we ended up just ordering some small plates to share and it ended up being perfect. The ceviche and plantains were my favorite bites of the night and although we wanted to get a dessert to tie the meal together, the ice cream was so filling that we weren't able to finish it . Came by the pickup window my first night in town and got the recommended smash burger - delicious. So delicious I came back on my last evening. This time around I had the scallops and fries and they were an absolute work of art with a taste to support. Delicious, 10/10 would recommend. The bartender suggested one of their Smokey poblano margs and it was delightful. Service was great, very attentive and willing to suggest items that deliver. Ambience was quiet to start and got a little noisier as the evening went on, would be great for a group looking to go out and have fun. read more

Wow, this place is spectacular. Love the laid-back vibe excellent food, superb service and really art forward decor. We had the chef's choice appetizer which is now my very favorite. Such a unique restaurant! We had driven by their location on grand countless times and finally got around to trying it. The menu is so thoughtfully created, and every bite we took was a wonderful burst of flavors in our mouth. First of all thank you Erin for taking care of us and guiding us though the menu. You were great. I admit I have been hesitant to come to this place because I thought it was going to be just like every other Mexican restaurant in Phoenix. I was wrong. Chilte is truly the closest menu to anything you'd eat in Mexico City. Friendly service and we got seated quickly, and they even accommodated a quick table switch when we were initially seated next to a human megaphone. The food: We ordered a LOT with the intent of trying as much as we could handle. Margarita - Best marg in town. Fight me. Corn - I swear this corn isn't from the US. The bite and taste is completely different. Order for yourself to see what I'm talking about. Plantain - perfectly done platanos with an incredible side of refried beans. Vampiros - from the tortilla to the cheese to the chorizo this was a 10/10. Absolutely incredible. Santa Quesadilla with huitlacoche - step into authentic Mexican ingredients. Chewy umami cheesy perfection. Chef's Tostada - Not my favorite. Skip it. Yucca fries - THICC and perfectly done but I'd skip and save room for the... Smashy Burger - Look. The burger is very obviously on the menu to remind other restaurants that just because this is a Mexican spot, it can still throw down with a burger. That's all I'm gonna say about the burger. Molé de la Casa - super crispy flautas in a deeply rich molé. Looked great on the plate but honestly fell flat. Sorry chef. Chilte kept popping up on our food radar over the last few months. They are tucked into the corner retail space at an old motor lodge in Phoenix. The Egyptian Motel has seen better days but now has a quirky vibe. Chilte is the main restaurant. The decor is eclectic with folk art, photos, neon lighting, painted murals and and quant, but funky environment. Seating is limited to 10-12 indoor tables for Mexican cuisine. Street parking is the only option in a rougher part of Phoenix. Reservations are encouraged as space is at a premium and they are doing a good business. The menu is divided into smalls, mids and grandes plates. The menu is limited as many of the yelp suggestions were not available, however, we were told the menu rotates depending what is available. The drink menu is extensive and the bar seats maybe 4 people. We ordered the sweet plantains with lamb fat refried beans, zatar and house crema. The plantain was sweet and had a good taste with the beans, a combination I would not of chosen, but glad we tried. The summer salad was served in a deep bowl with grilled peaches, goat cheese, tamarind coulis, tomato, cucumber, roasted zucchini, dill, candied peri-peri pepitas and a hoja santa vinegarette. The salad stole the show and was very refreshing. A MUST TRY! Our final dish was the quesa birria tacos with beef, flour tortilla, queso, onion, cilantro arbol & pepita salsa and a miso consomme. The tacos were fair with the condiments overwhelming the beef and more of a cheese flavor. I found Chilte to be an interesting dining experience. The limited menu did not excite me and did not let me leave wanting more. Some of the selections on the grande had hefty prices. I found Chilte to be a bit pricey for the portions and not drawing me back to try them again. If you are an consumer on alcoholic drinks, they have a bountiful selection. Chilte is a good place to try but the menu, flavors and portion size placed them on our glad we tried list. read more

So glad I got me and my friend together to try this place out. Parking was easy to find on the street. It's a very small place so I would recommend reservations. The drinks and food are soooooo good! We got quite a few things off their menu so we got a nice variety. The food menu is on the smaller side but they do change it out often. My favorite was the birria tacos and that smash burger. Waiting isn't too bad either since there are shops around the area and the Egyptian Motor Hotel that is connected to the restaurant is very picturesque for all you social media junkies. The mole dish with oxtail flautas! That's the one that you want to have because it's special. You'll never have anything else like it. I wish I would have remembered what was in the relleno and the quesadilla but it was delish! Unfortunately, it was on last seasons menu. I don't think you can go wrong here. We visited Chilte for a birthday celebration and had a very positive experience. First, we were greeted by eclectic decor that elevated the experience while simultaneously unpretentious. Our waiter greeted us immediately upon arrival and was attentive throughout the experience. He explained every dish we were considering in detail. It was clear that the waitstaff are thoroughly educated on the menu and the chef's intentions. For dinner, we had the Yucca Frites, Quesadilla, and the Jamaica Quesa Birria Tacos. The yucca frites were tasty, particularly the sauce. The quesadilla was wrapped in a green leaf with a flavor we were told was meant to complement the cheese. Loved the ambience, it's not too big- they seem to spend their energy actually caring about the quality of the food.
