Wish I got the servers name but she was extremely friendly! (Younger dark haired Mexican girl). Mahi taco was my favorite, arguably my favorite taco of all time. Was out in Phoenix and my friend bet their life on how great La Santisima was...so we had to go. Not gonna lie, it was pretty fantastic! The decor and art in the place was amazing, loved it! They were fairly busy when we stopped in so it was a little slow in getting our food but nothing extreme. There's inside seating and a small patio outside. The food was amazing! Mexican food so good that I want to move to Phoenix! Visiting from Southern California, I was curious to see how Phoenix mexican food compares and I was absolutely impressed. Approaching the restaurant, you'd think it was a night club as you pulled up. As you enter through a huge swinging door, you are welcomes by spanish music, walls plastered with art and dozens of hanging wood lights with warm led bulbs. You'll be welcomed with a drink menu, a regular menu, and veggie/vegan menu as well as a basket of freshly fried chips. As you wonder where the salsa is, you'll look over and notice that there is a dedicated salsa bar with 18 different salsa options! I tried most of them and my wife and I absolutely loved the classic Pico De Gallo and Guacamole Sauce. For our entree, we opted for the Quesa with Al Pastor, enchilada style. It was an absolute experience and a unique fusion of an empanada, tamale and taco! The service was great. Our waitress was sweet and had great menu recommendations. The bar has unique swing seats. La Santisima. This is one of the top two places I send people when they ask about good Mexican. When my husband and I first moved in together some 14 years ago, this place was called La Condesa, and it was a quick walk from our house. It was a tiny shop with unbelievable quesadillas and a salsa bar that took up nearly a quarter of the dining area square footage. It changed names, not owners or recipes. It grew in fame, and space, and they added more decor. Then they moved to a bigger, much trendier location, but they've always stayed true to their vibe and their cuisine. Coming here has always felt like going home. Get the chips, the guac, the tacos, the quesas, visit the salsa bar 100 times, try a cocktail or stick to their unique horchata. You truly can't go wrong here. It's remained one of the best Mexican places the valley has to offer, and I hope it stays around for years to come. read more

Not gonna lie, I had no idea why this place was this hyped up on Reddit. Food was alright, but everything was just crazy style expensive. Honestly, the free chips were the best part of the meal. On our way to the airport my sister recommended we stop here because we haven't had enough Mexican food in the last two days... A nice dining room with a giant bar and belly up on a swing! Or opt for a booth like we did. Once you place your order with your waiter, you will get a basket of chips and be invited to salsa bar. Pick and choose your favorite including strawberry salsa? Mango! Guacamole salsa. Habanero salsa etc...For me, the salsa bar started from hot to hotter! The friendly waiter told us it ran from mild to hot? But it was all too spicy for me. I'm not a fan of the super heat at all so this was not a bonus for me. The Jalisco style menu offered an interesting twist. Any item you see can be converted into a burrito or quesadilla or taco. So the grilled shrimp platter sounded good to me, and I turned it into a burrito! It was big enough to split and it needed no extra accoutrements. Everything was in it. Guacamole, rice, beans, and the perfectly lightly battered crispy grilled shrimp. And the flour tortillas were light and delicious. Yum! This was so delicious and I had to give the other half of the burrito to my sister to take home. (I should have just put it in my purse and ate it on the plane!) Another bonus menu item, Chile En Nogada! What? Yes! I rarely see this on menus, probably because most Mexican restaurants are Tex-Mex, Sonora Style or Baja style. Chile En Nogada is a historical dish created by Augustinian nuns (just like our new Pope Leo who is the first Augustinian friar to become Pope! There are no coincidences!) in Puebla in 1821 to honor General Iturbide after signing the Treat of Cordoba which granted Mexico Independence from Espana. The ingredients were to reflect the colors of the Mexican flag. This dish is usually made around Independence Day. It's like a chili relleno but they use a Poblano chili stuffed with fruits and nuts and the white walnut sauce covers it and is sprinkled with pomegranate seeds. I dunno how it's prepared here, but I'm gonna order it next time! And yes, I have actually made this dish at home, and the list of ingredients is endless. The word en nogada means drowned in, hence the name (walnut sauce covering/drowning the chili). Your welcome. Thirsty? Aguas frescas and a full bar offered any cocktail you could wish for. Beautiful decor and artwork. Friendly service by our handsome bilingual waiter was a plus. Spanglish spoken here too! I'll be back next time I'm in my hometown! read more

I haven't been to this place in probably 10 years since it was a tiny little restaurant in a strip mall. I loved it then and decided to come for lunch and was pleasantly air at both the new location and the upgraded menu. The ambiance is amazing - between the art and the swing seat at the bar. I love the vibe And the menu has been expanded with a ton of really cool Mexican inspired tacos and food that are really unique. They even have a separate vegan/vegetarian menu. The tacos we ordered were all flavorful and the meat was perfectly cooked. Shark tacos, mole-based tacos, Argentinian beef. So many interesting combinations. And best of all, they still have the amazing salsa bar that I remembered. Lots of good spicy options if you like it hot like I do. And last but not least, service was friendly and efficient. I have eaten here only once so far. I'll definitely be back. This restaurant has some amazingly good food. The black mole tacos are to die for...but I'm getting ahead of myself. Found a decent Mexican spot! Great service and a nice atmosphere. The guacamole was flavorful and delicious. It wasn't too much where we could get full too :) The chicken bowl mole was rich and smokey with just the right amount of spice. The asada taco was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. The Mahi Mahi Santisima Special taco was delicious!! The beans and rice were also delicious. The only disappointing things we had was the Margaritas and the salsa bar. I'm not sure if I've just been living under a rock or why I haven't been aware of this place having vegan options!! The location in downtown Glendale is closed so don't drive over there if maps shows it as an option! (Made that mistake and had to drive another 25 min to the correct, new address) The waiter was really kind and let me know the vegan cheese options they had and were reassuring about making it modified. The only thing is that the refried beans are made with chicken broth so if they ask black beans or refried beans after ordering something made vegan, it's because the refried beans are NOT. What a beautiful establishment! From the amazing front door to swings set up at the bar, the art, salsa bar and of course the food La Santisima is serving some serious vibe. We came on a Saturday night for our book club meeting. We did make a reservation, but it didn't seem too busy. Walking up you'll immediately notice this place is different, in a great way. There is a huge art sculpture outside, a patio with creative barrier and a gorgeous front door. Seems odd to mention the door in a review but it's literally a work of art on its own. Walking in they have a huge chandelier (I'm a sucker for a chandelier) and upbeat Spanish music playing. We were immediately sat and told "the left said of the salsa bar is hot, the right is mild" and left to look over the menu. The salsa bar is incredible! They had to have at least 20 different kinds of fresh salsa. We tried a few different varieties but the Nopal was my hands down favorite. Super chunky and just the right amount of heat vs flavor. For appetizers we ordered the Queso Fundido w/ Chorizo and the Grilled Calabacitas. Both were just okay. The queso wasn't hot so was basically a long cheese pull that was difficult to eat. Idk if that's the way they serve it? It was odd as normally queso comes out piping hot and melted. The flavors were good, the chorizo really helped. The Grilled Calabacitas lacked flavor and were underwhelming. For my main dish I ordered 3 tacos + rice/beans. They have about 40 different tacos to choose from and lemme tell ya it was hard to pick! They all sounded amazing. I landed on a classic Al Pastor (a true tell for me is how good a restaurants Pastor is), the La Nueva España Pork Taco and the Mariachi Loco Taco. All were PHENOMENAL. I'm also really picky about refried beans, but these were so delicious, as was the rice. I feel like the rice/beans are kind of an afterthought at most Mexican places but not here. You can tell they put as much care into them as the beautiful artwork tacos they serve. Speaking of the art! The walls are filled with Mexican art which really adds to the ambiance. They even have a little gift shop with cool pieces. I'd definitely return to La Santisima. This would also be a great place to bring people from out of town. read more

Tacos, burritos, cazuelas and tortas. Anything you want in any format. I had the queso fundido with chorizo. Yes, it's an appetizer and comes with huge hand made flour tortillas. And it was still a lot of food. Definitely a great starter or full meal. My husband had the Chile en Nogado cazuela. He ate every bit and couldn't say enough good things about it. Unfortunately they only provide 1 bowl of chips for free, so keep that in mind before you gobble them all up. My son was in town and one of the places we had to hit up before he went home was La Santisima, so off we went! I have been a fan for years, so if you haven't been here yet, you really need to go! We arrived during lunch time and got a table right away. Service was great and friendly. The salsa bar is fresh and has a great selection. One of my favorite go to is the chicken Oaxacan Black Moie Taco, its shredded chicken simmered in this amazing sauce of blend of spices, chilies, nuts, Oaxacan dark chocolate. I liked the guacamole but it seemed more like an avocado pico de gallo, if that's even a thing. The chips were great though and I enjoyed the selection of salsas. This place is pretty much the level up above AWESOME when it comes to their robust menu. My only complaint would be there's so much to choose from and there's only so much you can eat !!! So, the remedy to that is to come back more often and try something different. Although I'm a creature of habit and once I fall in love with one item, I keep going for that "known quality" rarely deviating and testing new things. I'd come back to try other items here 'tho because the menu descriptions are well written to seduce me to take chances. I also tried 4 different items and was satisfied with each and every one of my choices. I'll say this about the pricing and portions. I ordered 4 tacos and I finished them all, but if on a budget or a casual meal, I think I could get away with ordering 2 tacos to get satisfied, and that's a testament to the value and portions given here. La Santisima has some unique items on the menu, a large variety of tacos to choose from and quite the menu. From table to table, here's what I had. Frijoles Santisima - My favorite appetizer here, Pinto Bean Dip with Oaxaca Cheese, Chiles and Mexican Herbs. Highly recommend. Carne Asada Burrito - Nothing snazzy. Beef, Rice, Pinto Beans and Guacamole Salsa. It was alright. 3 Tacos - I ordered the Baja Sur Shark (Beer Battered Shark, Rice, Pinto Beans, Cabbage, Mayo, Cilantro Salsa and Pico de Gallo), Chilango Suadero (Brisket, Rice, Pinto Beans, Onion, Cilantro and Tomatillo Salsa) and La Nueva España Pork (Chicharrón Prensado, Pinto Beans, Pico de Gallo and Salsa de Árbol). All good but nothing great. 3 Tacos - Al Pastor Cauliflower (Oaxaca Cheese, Pineapple, Onion, Cilantro, Red Salsa, Avocado Salsa, Sour Cream & Queso Cotija), Specialty Veggie (Toasted Oaxacan Cheese, Mushrooms, Poblano Peppers, Onions, Spinach, Garlic & Clintro Salsa) and Mazatlán Marlin (Smoked Marlin, Veggies, Oaxacan Cheese, Cabbage & Cilantro Salsa). Guacamole - Always have to try the Guacamole, the spin in this was added Jicama, Mango and Cranberries. Sounds sweet but it wasn't, actually worked out. Horchata - Family recipe loaded up with Fruits and Pecans, different for sure but I thought it was okay. Pricey Horchata though. I'll be honest, this isn't one of my favorite taco places, they do have a lot of options and other food to try besides tacos. It's not bad but it's not great, for me. I've passed this place so many times and finally had a chance to check it out! Arrived around 4pm on a Tuesday and there was no one else dining in so we basically had the place to ourselves. Our server was great, he made sure to answer our questions and brought everything out to us pretty quickly. I ordered the three tacos plate with rice and beans. You get the option to mix and match the taco options that you want and they have quite the selection for tacos. The menu has a description of what each taco has as well. I ended up ordering a Guacho taco, La Santisima taco and the Jamaica Rose Shrimp. All very good! The horchata was also delicious, they add strawberries, pecans and other fruits to the top.
