I found this place on Yelp while I was in the area because we were craving tacos. This was the place that came up when I searched the best Mexican restaurants near me. Usually Yelp does not let me down but this time I was surprised. The tacos were decent, nothing special. But the sauces were not good. I have not been to a Mexican restaurant where the sauces were all nasty. Highly disappointed. I do appreciate the service. They were very nice and kind. They even gave us a ceviche torta to sample since it was our first time there. However, the ceviche was not palatable. I know they are known for their seafood so we did try the lobsters tacos, which were pretty good. Overall, decent experience, cute patio area, fun decor, but I would not return.

This place is so good! Friends kept telling me to go, and now I get why everyone talks about it. If you're planning to visit, try to come before the dinner rush because it fills up fast. Also bring a group. The portions are huge and the food is clearly meant to be shared. Trust me on this one, bring friends. I've tried a bunch of dishes here, and there are a few I always go back to. For the table, Camarones Locos is an easy choice. The flame grilled shrimp comes out hot and full of flavor, perfect for passing around. La Patrona ceviche tower is massive and worth the order. When it hits the table, you immediately feel good about the decision. El Pulpazo is technically an entrée, but we always order it as a shareable. The octopus is grilled perfectly and it comes with rice and beans, so everyone gets a little of everything. For entrées, my number one pick is the Lobster and Crab Enchiladas with green sauce. I think about this dish at least once a week. The enchiladas are packed with lobster and crab, and the green sauce ties the whole thing together. Honestly, I could talk about this place all day. If you like Mexican food and seafood, you need to try it. Great food, big portions, and a menu that makes it hard to stop ordering.

I came down to Phoenix from Seattle for my birthday and was looking for authentic Mexican food, and this place exceeded my expectations! The food was absolutely authentic and full of flavor, the restaurant was clean and welcoming, and it was the perfect place to cool down from the Arizona heat with a delicious frozen drink. There are so many more things on the menu I'd love to come back and try! I'm so glad we stopped here, and I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Phoenix.

This place is EXCELLENT!!! From the service to the food it's the best. I've been twice now and I want to go back everyday. The first time I tried the La Patrona seafood ceviche tower something I had never eaten before with the various seafood. This was so good. I just wanted to keep eating. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The next time I tried tacos. The Tacos Mixtos (steak, chicken, fish, and shrimp) and Tacos Pulpo Zarandeado (grilled octopus). OMG!!! I am in love. I normally don't eat the rice and beans but I tasted them and along with the tacos they were amazingly good. Our waiter Poppa Jon was so nice and helpful. He served with a smile and answered my questions. This is the best Mariscos in AZ.

We came on Valentine's day on the way to drop off some folks at the airport. We had not been in a while and our friends had never been so we were hoping it was as good as before. We sat outside and the patio was as pleasant as always although there were a couple of hungry bees attacking our water that had fresh lemon slices. Prepare yourself for that! They brought out chips and salsa right away and the new menus. No more big book, just laminated menus - 1 for drinks and apps, the other for entrees. They still bring out the fish tostadas on the house which is always a nice touch. One of us ordered the shrimp tacos, one had carne asada tacos, the third the stuffed fish filet and I had the bacon stained guero chilies with shrimp. Everything was super tasty. The shrimp in my chilies were a tad overcooked however the bacon was really well cooked and not flabby at all. The stuffed fish was outstanding. Super tender and moist and a very large portion! We saw other folks ordering the whole fried red snapper which is served standing! We will try that next time. They served me a complementary shot of a strawberry (?) margarita. It was a nice touch and tasty with a hint of smoke. Always a sure bet for fresh seafood!

This is our second time visiting Mariscos Playa Hermosa. We visited on a whim a few years ago and when we knew we'd be back in Phoenix we made a point of returning! That should tell you everything you need to know. The food is fresh and delicious, the portions are large - it is a little pricey but worth it. The service was friendly. We showed up with a part of 7 and were sat immediately. The inside is so fun with bright, colorful paintings and decor. We love it here! And the strawberry horchata is a game changer!

The food is always amazing, they serve large portions. The service is always great. They are quick and precise and always nice. Ambiance is very fun, they sometimes have mariachis on a weekend day. I love it here! Parking is a little tight when busy so just be early.

La Ofrenda -- 17 Tequila, pomegranate, fresh lime, juice, sour mix, tajin

Reservations on a rainy Saturday in November, we arrived early and were seated immediately. Our friends arrived a few minutes later and we crammed ourselves into the tight table made for four but with extra chairs. The dining room is very festive and brightly decorated but packed with furniture to the brim. Tables are very close together and large customers should be aware they may be squeezed trying to enter and exit. Studied the massive venue for the longest time, while sipping on a La Ofrenda cocktail, a steep $17 but excellent flavor. It has tequila, pomegranate, fresh lime, juice, sour mix, tajin with an adorable skeleton garnish. I ordered the Filete Divorciado with half red and half green sauce (omg the red is not called diablo for being mild!) but the green sauce is absolutely delectable. The fish was lightly breaded and thin, drowned in sauce on the same plate with rice beans and salad. Husband ordered the seafood enchiladas with red and green sauce and his portion was so massive the rice beans and salad came on a separate plate. He raved about the chunks of crab and lobster, and the red sauce was not too hot for him. His margarita was standard. Companions ordered a paella for 2, with extra a shrimp. Interesting the extra shrimp was grilled and seasoned differently than the fish in the paella. They loved this dish although it is not the traditional preparation as the seafood is just placed on top of the restaurant standard white rice with mixed vegetables. Server checked in on us at least a dozen times, we were never in need. Leftover packed and no room for dessert, they let us linger and visit for a very long time, never rushing us to leave. I really appreciate this in a busy spot and tipped accordingly.

We came to watch a soccer game and glad we did so! There was a lot of seating available and the staff were friendly! They have a lot of variety with seafood! The staff were very attentive and had great recommendations! The ambience and is nice and felt very welcoming! I recommend this place if you are looking for food seafood and drinks!

We are obsessed with Mariscos Playa Hermosa and the fresh seafood they offer! Every dish has been wonderful but our top item is the whole fried fish (huachinango sarandeado) covered in a spicy mayo sauce. The aguachile, ceviche, molca frio and oysters are great. Lobster enchiladas are great. Chips and salsas are great. Shrimp with heads attached covered in chili (camarones locos) are great. Guac, great. You get the point. It's hard to go wrong. If you're celebrating, I recommend the seafood tower for a special event. Drinks are good but I prefer to save the room in my tummy for delicious Mariscos rather than a margarita. This is not a quiet restaurant so may not be the top choice if you're looking for an intimate spot or if someone in your party is hard of hearing.

Super cute place and did that stone bowl thing...starts with talapia, shrimp, chicken and carne with red Diablo cheese/octopus sauce in center. So good! Claudia was our super great server. Will be back for sure.

Sad to say I was their guinea pig they had never served this dish before, and I ended up being the first to try it. I really wanted to go for the octopus and shrimp or keep it safe with the aguachile, but I stepped out of my comfort zone and asked for the waitress's opinion. She suggested I try this tostada. The presentation was nice, and the portion was generous, but the tostada shell was really small and the seafood was completely drenched in guacamole. It felt more like a tostada de aguacate than a seafood tostada I could barely taste any of the seafood. The fried shrimp on top was actually really good, and honestly, if I had just ordered a plate of those I would've been much more satisfied. On the positive side, the service was very friendly and attentive, the ambience definitely had that fun, party vibe. The michelada was delicious and refreshing. That said, it did feel overpriced specifically for what I got. I'll be back to try something else, probably one of their more common seafood dishes and leave another review just to see if redemption is possible.

Right when we pulled up on the parking lot we knew it was going to be a good place to have lunch. Seeing the outside drew our attention. We walked in and it was packed and we got seated right away. The server was very friendly and I can see all the workers with a smile on their face, service was fast and the food was more than we expected. We are from California and we were pleased and super satisfied that we decided to stop at this place because not only the food was perfect the whole staff was very kind and making sure we didn't need anything here and there. Our food was so good that we left with 2 satisfying tummies. We got a tostada ceviche on the house and we were pleased with it and satisfied as well

You can taste the quality in each ingredient and I appreciate that. My husband and I agreed that the Spanish octopus was our favorite dish. It was the best octopus I've had in a while, the char flavor and slight crisp was amazing. We enjoyed the creamy sauce, artichokes, and other veggies that came with this dish. The cauliflower and golden beets were incredible too. The chef told us that the Japanese sweet potato was one of the popular dishes, but out of everything we ordered, it was surprisingly my least favorite. So, after searching up and down, I stumbled upon Nelson's. I came by for an early lunch. This location is a very small place, really only big enough for a few fridges full of meats/fish, as well as the counter itself. I came in, and I took a little bit to decide what I wanted from the menu, and settled on a shrimp salad sandwich and a half pound of salmon poke. Before, during, and after the ordering process, I feel like the gentleman behind the counter was a little cold and not wanting to talk to me much. It seemed like I was inconveniencing him, so I felt bad about that. For that reason, I didn't really try to make conversation. I hope his day got better! I took the food togo, of course, and I ate the shrimp sandwich first. The seasoning was really great, and the salad was really well balanced. Mayo, onions, chives, cabbage: everything was well-represented and nothing was overbearingly seasoned. Yummy sandwich! The bread was a little drier than I would have liked, but very minor. It also came with Zapp's chips! Always a plus in my book. The poke? Delicious. I get the price. It's expensive, but it's the middle of a desert in 115 degree weather. Great representation of salmon poke, and super well seasoned with pacific island flavors that are certainly reminiscent of the stuff you'd get on the island! If you're looking for a wonderful seafood experience, I'm confident you'd like Nelson's in Phoenix.

Only downside is that…read morefor some reason Apple maps was not accurate to finding the location and parking was a challenge as it is right on Roosevelt Row. However as soon as I found it and immediately after entering Pretty Penny I was transformed to the cutest little restaurant. I was greeted immediately and had made a reservation so even though my friend hadn't arrived yet, they sat me down. They instantly offered water and menus (food and cocktail). I noticed that the menu seemed very small and the dishes were shareable -- I don't eat meat so I was hoping my friend wouldn't mind sticking with fish and seafood (which she didn't). As soon as I got to my table there was the cutest sign that said welcome to Sarah Sherman and guest -- it was such an adorable and personal touch, I loved that! As soon as my friend got there we immediately both ordered the cold brew old fashioned -- we thought about the espresso martini but this just sounded too good to pass up -- and we were not disappointed! This drink was so tasty and strong. We immediately ordered the bread (sourdough boule) to soak up some of the alcohol as well as some oysters and the salsa. The oysters were so well spiced and were absolutely delicious. But the bread, the bread, the bread -- the server mentioned that it took almost 9 months to develop the bread recipe and it served. It was the best bread and butter that I think I have ever had! The salsa was good but probably was my least favorite of everything and it was still super yummy. We then moved on to the octopus tostadas. Sometimes octopus is not my fav -- it can be too chewy but this was so amazing and incredibly flavorful. It was starting to be my favorite dish until we ordered the Hamachi -- OMG!! Talk about a mouth orgasm-- both my friend and I were yummming it up -- but seriously this bite was so complex with different flavors coming up with every chew -- it has coriander candied peanuts, fermented pineapple, avocado, pickled fresno, toasted coconut and aji amarillo yogurt -- The server mentioned that this was the chef's least favorite dish which I totally do not understand because this was off the charts in my book. We also tried the earl gray whiskey sour, which was light and delicious, and ended with the shrimp toast and the espresso martini. By the way the toast on the shrimp toast was like a little fried dough triangle -- sooooo gooood! The martini was good but the cold brew old fashioned really stole the spotlight for me. Other details I loved that just elevated the experience: Purse hook (very important to me), the little trays for your utensils, metal coasters, incredibly attentive servers, fantastic music, great ambiance and the cutest was the penny they put on top of your check. So cute -- was not expecting such an enjoyable all around experience!! Will be back 1000%!!!

To start, the menu is a bit puzzling. It's kind of like a handful of Asian-inspired dishes, a handful of Mexican/South American, and a handful of French or New American. But there's not enough of each to chart a course through one type of cuisine. So, basically you're gonna have a cultural melange meal. Hamachi crudo was really good and fairly unique. The halibut was excellently prepared but not particularly innovative in any way I could tell. Zucchini had goat cheese, which wasn't immediately clear from the description, so I didn't enjoy the rude surprise I got when I took my first bite, and didn't eat anymore, as I really despise the stuff. So that was a waste. Not a dig on the dish, just a personal thing I wish I had more notice of. There were other issues though. The wine list was exceptionally small, They were out of the bread, which is supposedly a must-try. And then we were going to get the steak but the folks next to us advised against it, showing their cut that had zero fat. They said it was leather. On that point, the tables are SUPER CLOSE. Like, a couple inches apart. You hear everything and almost can't avoid getting entwined into others' conversation. We liked the people we were next to, but be aware that it's an unintentionally awkward communal experience that's not well-suited to a date night. The service was pretty good, they put out a nice printed greeting with the reservation name, and give you a sparkling wine toast. But considering the price and overall experience we had, I'd pass and not come back.

We ordered the yakisoba noodles along with the Family Combo F2, which came with crawfish, headless shrimp, and snow crab. It also included corn, potatoes, and sausage, making it the perfect meal to share. Everything came out hot, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. The seafood was cooked just right, easy to peel, and packed with flavor. The crawfish, shrimp, and snow crab all tasted incredibly fresh, and the seasoning had just the right amount of spice without overpowering the seafood. The corn, potatoes, and sausage soaked up all of the delicious Cajun butter seasoning and were just as flavorful as the seafood itself. The yakisoba noodles were another standout. They were cooked perfectly with great flavor and paired really well with the seafood boil. The portions were generous, so you'll definitely leave full, and the quality of the food really impressed us. Everything we ordered was a 10/10, and we'll absolutely be back to try more from the menu. Highly recommend!

We complained about the shrimp and scallop quality and were only offered 20% off -- they didn't even offer to remake the dish. I did eat the side items -- the corn and potato -- because the waitress never came by to check on us or ask how our food was. I refused to pay for the seafood portion, and they actually called the police on me. I have never been treated so badly by a restaurant, especially when the food quality was that poor. So beware: if the food quality is bad and you feel it's unfair to pay for it, they will threaten you with the police -- who clearly have more important things to deal with than responding to a restaurant's food‑quality complaint.
