Ordered a tuna poke bowl for takeout at 6:07pm and got an email saying it would be ready by 6:27pm. I showed up a few minutes early, but there was a line, so by the time I reached the front it was exactly 6:27. I understand it was busy, and I'm not upset about the line. What I didn't love was being told by the host to step aside when I got to the front so that she could check on my order, and then watching her help everyone else in line and forget about me entirely. If you're going to park a takeout customer to the side, you have to come back to them. Around 6:40pm, I flagged down a waitress who was kind and actually looked into it for me. I got my order from her at 6:48pm. They need to fix how takeout orders get handed off to guests. Pickup shouldn't run through the same single host managing a long dine-in line, or if it does, someone has to own circling back. And the food didn't make up for it. The tuna was fishy. I ended up drowning it in soy sauce just to get through it, which is not what you want to be doing with raw fish. When poke is the whole point of the dish, the fish has to be fresh, and this wasn't. The restaurant had a nice moodiness to it with tons of Japanese letters / decor. Other than the ambiance being nice, my experience was not great.

I ended up getting ramen which was some of the best I've tasted in Arizona. The brother was amazing, the spice bomb was on point, and the meat was well marinated. Our server was inattentive and busy I suppose. It took a long time for them to give us our check and the night just kept getting longer as we waited. Would return but probably on a less crowded day.

We didn't care about the mixup though we still enjoyed the food. The fish was good quality, and the service was great. The server came to check in on us multiple times to ensure we had enough food! Something that surprised me about the cucumber salad was that I assumed it would have been pickled cucumbers. It wasn't, it was fresh cucumbers with spicy chili sauce topped with spicy sliced red peppers. It was def a little too hot for my preference. All in all a good dining experience, great hospitality here.
Came here for a birthday brunch. Our waitress was super sweet, but service was a bit slow. The decor was super cute and vibes were very little Tokyo. They validate for parking in the cityscape restaurant (I think for 2 hours; the extra hour was $5). I ordered the ube matcha, which was delicious. I was between the omurice (which my friend got and it looked yummy and was a lot of food), but opted for the salmon Benedict bc of the large greens it came with- the ginger salad dressing was good. I love how it was served on crispy rice (versus an English muffin); it only comes with 1 egg though, and the yolk wasn't as runny and some parts of the white were undercooked. The birthday cheesecake they brought was really good; the candied pecans had a great crunch and the crust was perfect.

I had to ask for water 5 times because of how inattentive the waiters are. Also, we were there for 1.5 hours because that's how long it took them to get all our food out so definitely don't go here if you have somewhere to be. The food itself is above average though. I got two rolls of mochi, kanto beef, and the crispy rice trio. I took home a little bit of the Kanto beef since all of this did a good job of getting me full. The atmosphere feels a bit intimate too.

Obon sits right in the heart of downtown Phoenix and fully embraces that prime location. The space is large, beautifully designed, and immaculately curated, with a standout rectangular bar that opens to both indoor and outdoor seating--perfect for the steady foot traffic and energy around it. It's lively and a bit loud, especially in the evening, but that fits the vibe. Service was warm, attentive and efficient, and the presentation is strong. The food is flavorful and well-executed, though portion balance is something to keep in mind. A roll I ordered was heavily rice-forward with minimal filling--still tasty thanks to sauces, but at a $23 price point, this is something worth noting. Overall, OBON delivers a great downtown experience--just go in knowing you're paying as much (or more) for the atmosphere and location than for the food.
Definitely my new favorite sushi spot! I loved the botanical-Industrial vibe. Our server Lorina was amazing! She provided great recommendations. The Neo-Genesis Roll remains the absolute GOAT of their signature menu. It has a great balance, The Heat, Freshness and That Chile Sesame Ponzu sauce equals deliciousness! They have a great selection of cocktails for happy hour as well as special food items. Next I want to try their bird buns - Steamed buns with spicy fried chicken.
The garlic soy wings were so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. All the fishes were so fresh. You have to try the pork belly app it is so tender. The Yuzu yellowtail had the perfect amount of yuzu. Our server was so attentive and friendly. There is a ton of seating inside.
I'm mad at myself. I took pictures of everything BUT the food. It couldn't have been that good. Oh, But it was that good!! I love sushi but I brought my friend to take her sushi virginity!! lol it was her first time and I wanted to go easy lol. We had a dragon roll, crispy rice with avocado and pineapple sake. I could enjoy that sake all day. The crispy rice...perfection. I like mine with spicy tuna but I was dealing with a virgin so she said avocado. Again it was delicious. And the dragon roll, nothing epic but still delicious. I want to go back to sample other items on the menu. I promise to take pics of my food next time.

First time here and I'm in love. Came for the brunch menu and it was 10/10!! The interior decor reminds me so much of Japan, love the wooden and traditional look. Started off with Matcha/earl grey with ube foam. Wow, I love this drink! I've foam is light and fluffy and not sweet! The matcha is mixed with earl grey so it was like drinking an earl grey milk tea with matcha undertone. The omurice was so good! The egg was nice and fluffy and the sauce over the eggs makes everything much more flavorful. I would definitely come back for this dish. The Obon French toast was delicious! The bread was fluffy and the berries is soaked in yuzu so it gives the dish a nice citrus kick with the creamy sauce over the toast. Lastly is the yuzu sashimi, 10/10, love the yuzu sauce over this dish! The yellowtail is nice and fresh. I would definitely come back to try more items on the brunch menu!
Great food and great drinks tonight!!! Service less than stellar, however! That was not the case last time I visited. Got food but no napkins or dishes. Had to ask for those and wait a long while. Ran out of water and had to ask and wait for more. Drinks came out way later than food. Waited forever to pay our check. Luckily someone saw my credit card on the table. I was highly impressed. Poe, the house manager, remembered me and exactly what I liked, even though it had been a few months since my last visit. He was extremely attentive, and so was my sushi chef, Fernando. Lorisa, my waitress, was as sweet and friendly as can be. Now let's get to the food. The quality is definitely there. The sashimi was cut the correct way--not too thin and not too thick, exactly how it should be. They also have a good happy hour, but that is not the only reason to come here. I can only speak to the sashimi and sushi, but the quality was excellent and they serve fresh wasabi game changer. So for sushi Downtown I would say this is one of the best. They also have other offerings. There are others that once were good but lost there touch as they grew recomend. read more

9.12.26 - Came here for a friend's bday dinner. It's my 2nd time here at this location. I've been to the Kierland Commons location as well. The place gets pretty busy on a Saturday night. I felt bad for the staff cuz half of the table was over an hour late. Our friend started sending some ramens out for our half of the table. I liked the flavor of the spicy one more than the non-spicy one. There were some pork belly buns as well but I didn't eat that. Another friend made us something he called elote creme brulee. That was so good! For myself, I ordered: Liquid Swords cocktail House of Green Leaves cocktail Uni Nigiris x2 Toro Nigiri Yuzu Yellowtail I think I liked the Liquid Swords more than the 2nd cocktail. I've had the uni nigiris here before and loved it so had to get it again. Quality is fresh here. Toro nigiri was good but still like the uni more. Loved the yuzu yellowtail! Light and citrusy. Perfect for a hot evening. A friend ordered the cucumber salad and we shared that. It's light, healthy and flavorful. Would get the uni, yuzu yellowtail and cucumber salad again next time! read more

Ive been going to the Obon in Scottsdale so im happy they opened one here! The ramen bowls are huge! For someone like me I would just share a bowl with a friend, but most people can finish it so idk. I feel like the cucumber salad in kierland commons Obon has more sauce and seasoning? And the shrimp boa bun didn't have sauce (which in sure it usually does) But the ramen was great, just what I needed for my ramen craving and the waiter was very attentive. I am so obsessed with Obon! My favorite thing is the Hamachi sashimi. The flavors are unreal and it's always so fresh. I also love the spicy tuna crispy rice! And they really have a fantastic brunch menu as well. I love all of the Benedict's and the French toast, which is milk bread is super good. Ramen was delicious, Nigiri and Sashimi Salmon and Yellowtail were good and medium size portions. Basic rolls were just ok. Signature spicy yellowtail roll was very good. Don't know if it was an off night but service was extremely slow. Drinks took a very long time to come out and one at a time....weird. Waitress didn't know the menu when we had questions. Waitress was friendly and quick. Checked on us several times. It was pretty dark in there for me, made me more tired. The table was set up nicely and the vibe was chill. The food was pretty good. Friend said the tonkatsu ramen was good as well. For the price though, I was expecting the braised short rib to be more tender, like melt in my mouth. Otherwise it would have been a perfect dinner. Beech mushrooms were yum! Interestingly, they had not just Japanese dishes, but other Asian inspired dishes on the menu like spam baos. Overall, good. read more

Had my birthday lunch here and it was perfect. We were seated in this little section with the cushy seats and it fit our large group perfect. The hanging lanterns were so pretty and made the restaurant feel warm! The staff was nice and even gifted me a free dessert and sparkler for my birthday! Ordered tons of food but I only managed to take a photo of the sushi roll which was yummy and fresh haha. Great experience we love Obon! I made the reservation online but when I needed to make a change I just called in and they were able to accommodate. Recommend this place if you like sushi and ramen, go for your birthday! What an awesome sushi spot!! The interior is GORGEOUS and makes me feel like I am in Japan! We sat at the bar and our bartender, Noah, was spectacular! Food was PHENOMENAL and our drinks were delicious. The best Salmon and Tuna sashimi i've ever had. We came during happy hour (3-6pm) and got a good deal on our sushi and drinks! Had a great dining experience at this new location in Cityscape. They will validate your ticket if you park in the Cityscape parking structure. The decor is very beautiful. I lived in Japan for 3 years and this brought me back to some of the ramen shops I frequented over there (at a larger scale, because ramen shops tend to be on the smaller side in Japan). Service was excellent, from the front desk to the wait staff. The food was great. I had the veggie gyoza, which was very tasty, and the deathfree ramen (made it vegetarian rather than vegan, with a soft-boiled egg). My friend, who grew up in Hawaii, said that the sushi he had was the best he's tasted in Phoenix. read more

Busy at 9pm on a Friday night but seated promptly without reservations. Parking is tricky which is to be expected downtown. Clean restrooms which is always a welcome surprise for downtown spots. Super friendly staff even with a packed dining room. Food comes out as it's ready instead of in courses. Service was a little slow but understandable given it was a Friday game night. We loved everything we ordered and were stuffed by the time we left. The balance of flavors with the citrus, bitterness of the microgreens, and freshness of the Yuzu Yellowtail was perfection. Veggie ramen was really tasty and definitely some heat with the fresno chilis. The Crispy Rice Trio was different in a good way, and nice to have bites of each. read more

Who would have known the best wasabi I would try in my life would be in Arizona?!? Fish was SO fresh. Service was amazing. Manager came and chatted with us. Great food. Great service. Such a hidden gem. If I can be happy in 111 degree weather rather with an amazing sushi place. Life is good! Gio and Luis were great sushi chefs! We were attending a concert downtown, so we made a reservation at Obon, and it was perfect. It's super close to the arena (within walking distance), and we were able to eat and head over with plenty of time. We enjoyed several items off the HH menu as well as the Kanto beef and the Obon ramen off the regular menu. Our service was good and everything tasted delicious! We will definitely be back! read more

Very disappointed in this place. First of all, way overpriced. Living in NYC I can get ramen for the same price or even less. Same with the cocktail prices. We ordered steamed edamame for the table and it was COVERED in salt and drenched in oil. I got the original ramen and when I took my first sip of the broth, I couldn't help but make a face. I don't know how the restaurant approved this because it tastes like someone took a shaker of salt and poured the whole thing into it. The chashu pork was also chewy and not tender.
