I heard about this place from a friend who raved about the ramen and I just knew I had to try it! My boyfriend and I love trying new (to us) ramen spots and this one did not disappoint!! We started with the Aji Fry. Let me tell you, they are these hot, crispy and delicious fried Japanese Mackerel pieces that just melt in your mouth. We both ordered ramen, I got the G.K.O. It was a spicy, garlic knockout with the most amazing slices of chicken chashu I've ever had and I added an egg to mine!! My boyfriend got the Signature Toripaitan ramen. It comes with four different types of meat and this amazingly creamy chicken broth. Both ramens ingredients tasted incredibly fresh and the bouncy ramen noodles were the best I've had yet!! The ambiance inside is great, they have an open kitchen concept where you can sit right at the bar and watch the ramen in action. It's not a very big place, but that's okay, because the atmosphere was very charming and the staff was very friendly. Our server was an absolute delight!! 10/10 recommend and I cannot wait to go back and try more items on the menu!!
I was super excited to try this place but was left disappointed. It's just too pricey for Japanese ramen. The ramen itself was good, but the broth was a little too thick. I also didn't realize that the spicy sauce was an extra charge. Entrance leading into the restaurant is nice. I like the fixed window looking into the kitchen and it seems like they take a lot of pride in making the noodles, but again, I can't justify the price, especially if hubby was still hungry afterwards.
I have been to mensho a handful of times now, and always have a great meal. The restaurant is charming and intimate with the kitchen in the middle, and you are able to sit right at the counter. Staff are attentive and friendly, with each member giving a warm welcome as you enter the dining area. Each dish is plated beautifully with unique flavors. The broth is flavorful, the hand pulled noodles are perfectly chewy, and you can tell it takes days to make. Although pricy, I think it is well worth it!
Love eating here! The ramen is always so good and creamy. We ordered the signature and classic toripaitan. The service was really quick, we were in and out in 30-40 minutes. This was our third time here and it's always been so good. We had an early dinner around 4:30p so there weren't too many people there and we were able to walk straight in. Will definitely be coming back!
One of the best ramen experiences of my life and I say that as a Ramen lover who has tried countless bowls over the years. A friend brought us here, and despite a short wait, everything moved impressively fast. From seating to ordering to the food arriving at our table, it barely took 15 minutes. I ordered the Garlic Knock Out, and it truly lived up to its name. The broth was rich and deeply flavorful, the noodles were cooked to perfection, and the meat was exactly as tender as it should be. Every element was well-balanced and satisfying. The service was decent. The staff were clearly busy, and our server had a bit of sass but as long as mutual respect is maintained, that doesn't bother me. Highly recommended.
I have been coming to Mensho since it opened, and it has yet to disappoint. Pulling back the curtains at the entrance reveals a cozy Japanese style bar with tables wrapped all around. The staff always gives a warm welcome and service is great. However, the real star of Mensho is the food. Their ramen is among my favorite with homemade noodles, delicious broth, and all the best additions. All of their fried items have a light, crispy, tempura that is well balanced. The wagyu nigiri is delicious and high quality.
Ramen was soo good, unlike any other ramen i've had before. The broth was flavorful and just right and the meat was super tender. The ambience inside is very intimate with close tables and Japanese inspired decor. The music they played was mainly house which i personally loved for the vibes. Servers were very sweet and helpful the whole time with picking food off the menu.

What we tried: Signature Toripaitan: Rich creamy chicken soup, A5 Wagyu, smoked pork (substituted with extra duck), duck, chicken, spinach, truffle sauce, green onion, red onion, ajitama egg, japanese menma, charcoal negi This was probably one of the top 3 Ramens I've ever had. The broth was creamy, and so tasty. The meats worked individually and also when combined with the soup. The truffle sauce was full of umami and gave the Ramen an extra oomph! Duck Matcha Ramen: Matcha and chicken creamy soup, spinach, green onion, duck, whip cream, matcha powder Probably the second best Ramen on the day, but still very good! Rating: 10 out of 10
The second time we dined, it was equally good! From service to food. Again we didn't go during rush hour, went on a week day for dinner. Got seated at the bar! Like usual we went with the appetizer followed by the house ramen served with multiple protein's! Man, this time the Daikon Salad was absolutely refreshing and delicious. Next the tasted the same just like the first time! We tried fried Macarel during our second visit and it was surprisingly good. The kitchen noise was loud and right in front of our face and we loved that vibe!! No complaints at all. Our server she was nice to us and didn't rush us! Highly recommended. Just avoid the rush hours, the wait time used to be crazy when they first opened in Mesa! Other than that I find their food quality to be pretty good compared to other ramen joints in the valley.
I wanted to love Mensho but I thought it was overrated and expensive!!! Seriously a bummer. Each bowl of ramen is filled with a bunch of ingredients that taste fine but masks the taste of the broth and the noodles. The garlic knock out had tons of garlic, which was nice since I love garlic, but I could not enjoy anything else about the bowl. It had more garlic than it did noodles! (The noodles were my favorite part, they were thick and chewy) Labeled spicy but did not have any spice. Supposed to have tons of other vegetables besides the garlic but there was barely any. Added an egg and the taste of the egg was off. It tasted too smoky, it reminded me of ham. The cook on the egg was perfect though -- with a jammy yolk. **each bowl of ramen is all above $20. The enoki chips could have been better executed. It just tastes like they fried the mushrooms in old oil and it was hard to eat. Pieces break off all over the table when you try to pick any of it out to eat. Paying $12 for them to ruin perfectly good enoki mushrooms. Everyone in the restaurant had this on their table too; looked like a fan favorite but we did not enjoy. The teppan grilled hotate butter was our favorite but the scallops were basically the size of pennies. We paid almost $20 for scallops that didn't taste that fresh but the dish was great. The flavor of the sweet butter with green onions and lemon searing the scallops was delicious. Almost caramelized -- well balanced and tasty. We would much rather pay more for quality pieces of scallops for this same dish. Besides that, the beer is a little pricey like everything else. The restaurant looks fine, seating is a little tight. The service was ok -- nothing spectacular. One of the servers hit my head with the other bowl of ramen that she was holding in her hands while serving. I was scared hot ramen was going to spill all over me so I stayed still until she was done serving us. Someone also kept hitting the back of my chair while they were trying to move a high chair. The employees need a little more space to do their job properly. *****Also their tipping options are crazy, their first option is 20% then goes up to 22%, 24% and 26% (look for the custom tip option on their machine) When did 20-26% tip options become the new normal for (below) standard service??*****
We went to this very intriguing Ramen high end chain. I've had lots of Ramen, even searched for a Tampopo style Ramen bar when we were in Tokyo. This place was on a whole other level of Ramen. The base was creamy and full of flavor, the noodles were perfectly cooked, the egg was amazingly soft boiled, and I kept eating even though my stomach ached in protest as my brain insatiably craved more of those flavors. The service was fantastic, I assume as I didnt notice any fault...but I was pretty into the food... Come to Seattle!
Tiffany, Jordan, and Ricky were absolutely amazing. The entire team worked as one from the hostess to the cooks and line prep. Everyone was welcoming, attentive, and on point. The food exceeded expectations, and the ramen was a standout. You can truly tell when a team works in sync it shows in both the service and the food. We'll definitely be back. Thank you for making today special!
Mensho ramen. I actually had the one in sf like 6-8 years ago and I loved it. Got here at lunch. No wait. Jake our server was excellent. Went over the full menu. Recommended some dishes like the butter scallops. So good. Also loved the carpaccio scallops. Fried Enoki also excellent. Enjoyed every appetizer we ordered Now the ramen. Got the signature. Loved the texture of the noodles. Broth was flavorful but not too salty like some places. Egg was done to perfection. Meats so tender. Nothing bad to say about my bowl. So so good Overall excellent experience. Food. Service. Top notch. Definitely be back again and again

An update from 7 months ago-- I've been to this Mensho location a few times now, it's actually very close to my house, I could walk there. Maybe when it's not summer I will :) I had previously mentioned I've been to Mensho Ramen in Japan twice and this location seems to be very close to quality and flavors. I've tried different appetizers on each visit here and I always get the Garlic Knock Out ramen bowl because I love garlic, but next time I need to branch out and try the duck matcha bowl, a friend of mine swears by it. It sounds like an odd flavor combo, but I hear it just works. Coming here is pricey, so this isn't my everyday ramen shop, but once in a while I enjoy it. Other reviewers mention not liking the noodle texture, the soup broth thickness, or overall flavors. Some have even questioned its Japanese authenticity. That's most funny to me, given it's very close to the ramen I had at Mensho in actual Japan. So I don't think it's Mensho who is unfamiliar with Japanese cuisine... I don't love all the apps I've had, for instance I would skip the Takoyaki or corn ribs, or $8 edamame. Next time I'd like to try the Aji fry, many people have said that's good. So, it's likely coming down to personal preference. Service has been solid so far. Servers are friendly and food comes out fairly quickly. Anyhoo, I'd still recommend this spot, and bring friends or family. We recently brought a friend who is vegan and she was happy to see vegan based broths and items on the menu. I think the price point makes it hard for some people to enjoy this place, as it costs about double compared to other bowls of ramen in the valley. But I appreciate that they make their noodles in house and the dining space is very authentic to a ramen shop in Japan (small and nice wood decor). It does remind me of being in Tokyo, which I miss dearly. Mensho here is more expensive than Tokyo. Food in the US costs way more in general. I think most folks would be surprised to learn that. But it's true, Japan has the most amazing food scene and they execute everything perfectly yet it's cheaper in many instances. I was blown away by how affordable food was in Japan. IMO that says more about the state of affairs in the US, and less about this specific restaurant. Some reviews have noted poor quality and management, I haven't noticed that yet, and I hope it doesn't happen. So far, I've liked it enough to keep going back every now and again :) read more

Overrated and overpriced for mediocre ramen. I ordered the spicy veg ramen with chicken broth. Verdict: not good at all for $27 1-broth only lukewarm 2-noodle undercooked and hard 3-missing ingredients from the menu 4-not spicy as described in the menu. I had to ask for extra spicy sauce to put in. 5-stiff,, rigid, not friendly staff. Hiroshi Ramen is better. My first and last time at this place. read more
I can understand why this place is ALWAYS packed. Was it the service? Was it the quality of food? Was it just the ambiance? ITS D. ALL OF THE ABOVE! I ordered the Duck Matcha. I know I personally was a little hesitant because when I think matcha I think of my go to Starbucks order (venti iced matcha latte with strawberry cold foam sub for oat milk) but when I tasted this I removed my opinion completely because THIS WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN ANY SOUP IVE EVER EXPERIENCED. it just flavors dancing on my tongue. I couldn't stop myself from eating I had to finish it because every bite I left behind I knew I would regret not savoring it even longer. So so so good. My brother got the Signature Tori. The broth was perfection. It had the perfect amount of spicy kick. And the presentation was I'm telling you all the ramen at this establishment is god tier. This place is absolutely amazing! The ramen was delicious and the waygu nigiri was delicious. I really cannot say a bad this about this place. There was a huge parking lot, it was packed though. I was seated at the beautiful ramen bar and got to watch everyone cook while I enjoyed my food. Noodles are handmade, broth was perfect, and the egg was tasty! read more
I've been a few times, and I gotta say it's definitely one of my favorite ramen spots! The place is tiny, but cozy and traditional Japanese style decor. When you walk in the staff greets you and you're escorted to your table. The servers are always educated on the menu, and make great suggestions! My go to appetizer: the mushrooms! They're deep fried and seasoned, the texture is like crisp little chips, and I can probably devour a whole app of them to myself. The ramen: the garlic one is probably one of the best, the broth is flavorful with nice spongy noodles and all the right toppings. I always add extra onions, an egg, and some other sort of veggie. They have an option to add 3 extra toppings to any bowl for $5 which is a great deal! Overall you can never go wrong here, I recommend it to anyone trying to find a good ramen spot that tastes authentic and delicious. read more

I would rate this ramen place 4 stars. The ramen itself is good, but for the price, I feel like there should be more noodles. What surprised me was that there was no egg in either my ramen or my husband's bowl. I'm not sure if eggs are an extra add-on that you have to pay for, but at most ramen places I've been to, an egg is usually included as a topping. Another disappointment was the takoyaki. It was $11 for only 2 pieces, which is very expensive. For that same price, I could get around 10 pieces at another place and they taste just as good. Overall, everything here feels quite pricey. Also, the restaurant is very small and tight, which makes it uncomfortable to sit and enjoy a meal, especially if you have kids or a group of more than 4-5 people. read more
Very pricey for ramen, but worth it! Lunch for two we spent $100 with the tip included. This came with 2 green teas, 2 ramen bowls, and the fried chicken appetizer. The flavors in the signature bowl and the garlic knockout were very different. My favorite was the signature ramen bowl at the top of the menu. Everything was well made and the dishes were not too salty. Overall the atmosphere, food and service were great! I'll be coming back for more. Cheers! read more
Walk into a clean, modern atmosphere with mensho. The customer service i experienced with Jan was amazing. She was super attentive, kind and fun. She went above and beyond my expectations and that says a lot. The chicken karage was crispy with a juicy chicken center topped either a delicious sauce. The ramen was delicious. will definitely be returning. read more
Started off with Kurozu Karaage, I got the garlic knock out ramen and my bf got the Signature Toripaitan. The fried chicken was good, wasn't a home run for me but worth trying- I give it a 8/10. The GKO ramen was really delicious, the noodles and broth were so good, and it was really nice that I could request for the dish to be made without the spice. My only critique is that I wish that it had more protein (which can be added on) but at $24 I had thought there would be more. The signature ramen was also very good..I tasted it after having my own so not as much of a flavor bomb but still really tasty! The interior was very similar to the restaurants in Japan, this was a really great spot to eat and brought back memories from my recent trip there. I only wish the prices were the same to the pricing in Japan, these bowls in Japan would've been roughly $10 and fried chicken would've been $4 read more
I like the interior of the restaurant, they made so much natural lighting without there being any windows. I ordered the spicy toripaitan. I did like the flavor and I ordered extra pork with it. My boyfriend ordered the signature with extra duck and extra pork. It's not a 5 star because we were both still hungry after. I think they could give more meat and noodles OR make it a little less expensive. And I had more diced onions than anything else in my bowl which isn't great. Also our server, an asian woman, had so much attitude which was so off putting, we already knew what we wanted and she was still acting like she's trying to rush us and was just rude in general. read more

The hope when eating at a restaurant that has/had a Michelin star is to be SO impressed. Especially since the bowls of ramen can be close to $30. Unfortunately, that was not the case when I ate at Mensho. The restaurant itself is aesthetically pleasing. It even reminded me of a ramen spot in Kyoto! I love when you can see the cooks in the middle of the restaurant with bar seating around it. The waitress was also lovely! She was attentive and made conversation a few times. The corn wings should be called corn ribs, but it is neither a wing or a rib. It is roasted corn sliced off the cob, but still delicious! I had the signature toripaitan ramen, which had at least four different types of protein. The wagyu was my favorite, so I wish that I had gotten that one. It also came with an egg that marinated for "X" amount of time, but I didn't like the flavor of it. My boyfriend got the regular toripaitan and added wagyu, and he enjoyed his. It was just okay for me, and I was disappointed, especially for it being about $30. I would not go back, but their strawberry nigori sake was a hit, also. And to note, we went around 6pm on a Tuesday, and it was not very busy. read more
Came here a few weeks ago for my oldest daughter's 20th birthday and it lived up to the hype! I've been following it for sometime and learned if you don't arrive just after it opens you could be in for a long wait, but that's the life of a Michelin rated place...people want to go! We were all greeted quickly and walked to our table. The atmosphere inside has high energy and bright with music in the background (but not loud). Everyone ordered something different. For the table we got the edamame garlic and enoki chips as they were "fan favs." Loved them both! I got the Signature Toripaitan....best ramen I've ever had, hands down. The broth was rich and smooth and the freshly made noodles are chefs kiss! On a scale of 1 to 10, I'm still having dreams of this place and want to go back again quickly. My friends and I had our pre-race dinner before running the Lost Dutchman Marathon. This ramen shop was located in Mesa Riverview. It just so happened that it was also a busy Valentine's Day, so we had to get here pretty early in case the lines were longer than usual. We met up at 5 pm to join the line. Thankfully, it was a short wait before we were seated at the counter, right in front of the kitchen. Having looked over the menu ahead of time, I already knew that I was going to order their Signature Toripaitan Ramen. This was arguably the best bowl of ramen that I've had outside of Japan or any Little Tokyo. Service from the entire waitstaff was very nice and friendly. Definitely, a happening place! Nearby parking was a bit scarce, but the parking lot was huge so you might need to park further away. read more
I finally made it to Mensho Ramen! I came right after my Cardiology appointment where I had to fast before I arrived. So I was more than ready to eat something with some type of fluid/broth because the fasting involved nothing to drink. So I was a bit dehydrated. After I browsed the menu, I chose to try their signature ramen, Signature Smoked Toripaitan! The ramen noodles are timed once the noodles hit the hot water for that perfect chew. *A good tip is not to allow the bowl of ramen to sit for any length of time once it's placed in front of you. Start eating the noodles right away to experience that perfect chew. After my bowl of ramen was placed in front of me I took a pic! Lol! I know, I know! The broth looked creamy and milky. The aroma was intoxicating! I wish the ingredients were visible as everything was submerged, which took away what could've been an epic pic because it contained premium ingredients. It contained pork chasu rare, smoked ajitama egg, smoked pork chasu, smoked A5 wagyu chasu, smoked duck chasu, and truffle. It also included king oyster, porchini and shiitake mushrooms! Everything tasted first class. The broth was a rich smooth and creamy chicken soup that felt silky as it went down my throat. The noodles had the perfect chew. Each chasu had maximum flavor and was the most tender pieces of meat. They were beyond tender! I finished the bowl of broth to its last drop! My only issue which is a personal one is the price. $37 with tip for a bowl of ramen is pretty steep. I don't know how often I'd frequent this place for that price. I could buy two bowls of pho at my favorite pho restaurant and be more fulfilled! But again, it my personal opinion. I am glad I tried this place though! This restaurant transported my fiance and I back to our trip to Japan in December 2024. We went to Mensho on a Friday night: the wait for a table was going to be 10-15 minutes so we opted for the bar which had plenty of open seating. The service was attentive, but not overbearing, and food came out quickly. I loved that the staff let us feel free to stay as long as we wanted even after having finished our food to enjoy our drink and chat! We shared the Carpaccio which was delicate and flavorful, the enoki chips which were UNBELIEVABLY delicious, and we both ordered the Toripaitan Ramen as our main course which was the perfect amount of rich and flavorful! The noodles were fresh and delicious and the broth was so good. Our meal was accompanied with Junmai Daiginjo sake which was made by the owner and is pesticide free. This place is on the pricier side but nothing crazy especially considering that you are paying for EXCELLENT quality in every way possible! Ten stars! read more

A solid once-in-a-while ramen spot, especially for the price. We'd only return specifically for the Aburasoba and the Signature Ramen -- both are packed with way more flavor than the rest of the menu. Everything else was just okay. There is so much good food in Arizona, it was pretty hard to choose, however this was one of the must go spots for me. We ordered two signature Toripaitan and it was soo good! The chicken broth was light and the truffle paste added a layer of creaminess. It also came with A5 wagyu chashu, smoked pork chashu and duck chashu, all were thin, juicy and tender. This is probably one of the most expensive ramen ($29ea) I've ever had but worth it with all the fancy ingredients. Tasty, definitely coming back if you're looking for a fancier ramen. Came here a couple of weeks ago. Love the bamboo-inspired interior of this ramen joint and staff greets you as soon as you walk in. We were first seated near the bathroom, which had a weird smell. Not sure if we were the only ones picking up on it but we asked to be moved and the hostesses were very prompt. We tried the signature ramen and takoyaki. Ramen is very savory and the broth is amazing! The egg included is also very smokey, which I loved. However, it is still not my favorite type of tonkotsu ramen (I still am a diehard fan of Ichiran Ramen in Japan and NYC, unfortunately). The takoyaki balls were a little disappointing, as they were mostly filled with air. For the price, I've definitely had better takoyaki at festivals or in places like downtown LA. Overall, it was a great experience but definitely a little pricier (as it is Michelin-rated). Not one of my absolute favorite ramen place but definitely try it once! read more
Ramen here is a treat indeed! I had the chance to find out what the buzz was about. This traditional Japanese Michellin award winning spot delivered in service, ambiance and in taste. I ordered the classic Toripaitan Ramen. $28 It had a silky, rich, opaque broth with fresh handmade ramen. It is terrific when the noodles are slightly chewy and have a bit of a pull to them! My bowl was beautifully presented with sliced wagu beef, duck, chicken, pork and some spinach. A lightly soy marinated egg blazed with the Mensho emblem topped the bowl with a crisp gobo stick. This slightly chewy deep fried condiment was my favorite topping! Next time, I would order the what my companion had. The spicy version of my dish. The heat brought out different flavors and depth. We also ordered the Teppan butter scallops. $18 They were small in size yet big in taste! Chilled sake made a good match. $18 The service was attentive and friendly. Very good especially for how full many patrons dined on that Friday at lunchtime, I would encourage small groups of 2-4 to comfortably dine here because it is best suited to accommodate small parties. If you love ramen the try Mensho. I've tried a couple places and now this one tops the number one spot in Arizona. The seating is small and cozy with the chefs all working in the center of the room. It makes it feel like a traditional ramen spot. There is a bathroom too which is nice despite the small space. I ordered the traditional chicken broth ramen and was not disappointed. It was so creamy and the pork was extremely tender and smoky in flavor. I will order this again along with the edamame which has a great hint of garlic. While this ramen spot doesn't have the star, it is recommended in the Michelin diner's guide. It's easy to tell why. Met a friend here for lunch right at opening time. There was one party inside this very small restaurant when we arrived, but it filled up quickly. The hostess asked if we wanted a hightop table, a regular l table or to sit at the bar, and we were seated immediately. I love the way the yell to each other whenever someone comes in. They did that in restaurants when we were in Japan. The decor is very sleek and traditionally Japanese, with the bar in the middle and tables looking the walls. Our server was very helpful, describing the differences between ramens and sakes. LOVE LOVE LOVE. I can not believe a ramen had this much flavor! I am usually the type of person who is not convinced by milky looking broth/food, this ramen was soooo amazing. It is a bit pricey, my boyfriend and I paid about 86ish after tip and we got two ramens and waters. The menu is fairly small, but reasonable. The staff were also all so friendly and attentive. Came here in March and I've been dreaming about going back! Just waiting for the weather to get cooler again (you know AZ!). Their service was top notch!! Super nice and attentive. Honestly, one of the best ramen I've had here in AZ. I won't consider it super authentic because they do have some odd choices on the menu (Matcha Ramen). But don't knock it till you try! Taste wise, it's 1000%! The place is small so you may have to wait if you go during rush. But we came around 4pm on a Thursday, so we got a table right away. Also, not super toddler friendly. Do they have an area where they can sit a large party of 9 or will be be split up?
I don't believe so. It's a small place. Unless there's a private room we haven't seen, you'd have to rent the whole place out to sit 9 in one place.
Are there any gluten free entree options?
Not for the noodles as of November. We requested they replace the noodles with a little extra of something else and they were willing to accommodate.
