Visiting Arizona and was liking for some Japanese food. Looked on Yelp and found Daruma, which had really good reviews. The menu is pretty extensive and everything sounded so good. The prices were pretty reasonable as well! Well, it's been raining pretty hard, so I was wanting some ramen to warm me up. We also got chicken karaage curry, 4 kind of sushi rolls (Sunset, Rainbow, crispy rice, and Dynamite) and a mixed tempura appetizer. Yes, we were hungry, lol! Everything arrived pretty quickly! Tasting everything, we noted that the fish in the sushi rolls were of really good quality, no fishy taste at all. The tempura had a variety of shrimp, tsai, sweet potato, onion, green beans, and zucchini, very good! The curry was very tasty, and the ramen (Miso Butter) really hit the spot. The broth was really good, and had a nice mix of ramen egg, corn, bean sprouts, green onion and chashu. The service was great! Our servers were super nice and efficient. If we lived here, we would be back again and again!
Food was so yummy here and filling. The ramen I got had the richest broth and the pork was juicy and tender. Loved everything about this it, I don't normally finish soups quickly, but this ramen was easy to finish for me. The california roll was good. Service was top tier, making sure our food came quickly and that we got our check ready when we needed it. The style of the restaurant is low-key and private for dine-in.
Our friends recently spotted this spot, so we decided to give it a try. We went all in on ramen, some ordered the Mayu Tonkotsu, with a rich, garlicky pork broth that was comforting but a bit heavy; a few of us tried the Sapporo Miso Butter, which had a creamy, slightly sweet miso flavor with a subtle buttery finish. A couple of us turned our meals into combos with either Tempura or a California Roll. The tempura was light and crisp, though the California Roll was pretty standard. We also shared the Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna, crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, and topped with just enough heat from the spicy tuna to make it interesting. Flavor wise, everything was decent, but nothing truly wowed us. A downside, the dishes were pretty salty, and we all ended up really thirsty afterward. Overall, it's a convenient spot if you're nearby, but nothing here made us feel like we have to come back.

The broth definitely wasn't bad but it wasn't as rich or creamy as I think tonkotsu should be. The gyoza was also standard for a casual Japanese restaurant. The restaurant was spacious and clean, and the service was very quick, which worked well for trying to catch a flight after. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back but would revisit if I was in the area and wanting some quick Japanese food!
This PLACE HAD THE BEST SERVICE that I've ever experienced in Arizona. Literally the employees were awesome and super nice. THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS! SUPER SUPER FRESH AND TASTY. I give this place a 10/10 the best I've experienced in years. I can't describe how much I was impressed. THE SUSHI THE SPICY RAMEN THE FRIED CHICKEN. Overall the atmosphere here was very pleasant and will definitely come back. The mood/tone was such a great feeling while eating ! It definitely gave me that cozy weekend feeling.
I found this place on yelp as I was in the neighborhood and in the mood for sashimi and sushi. I ordered the Heart Attack and Yellowtail Sashimi for starters. The Heart Attack was very good. Instead of receiving sashimi I received sushi. No big deal. The (I am assuming) owner took it back before I ordered a Vegas Roll. Vegas Roll was decent. Definitely big. Then, I finally received my sashimi. I have had sashimi at many places all across the USA. This is the first time having it when taste was just off. Enough so that I didn't want another bite. When dealing with raw fish it is not worth the risk. I brought this up to the owner (or manager?) and I could see the anger in his face. He didn't ask me anything, just picked it up and quickly came back to drop the check. I did not ask for the check and I wanted another Heart Attack because the sashimi was returned and I still had room. He quickly came back for my card and dropped it back off without saying a word. Very rude and unprofessional. It was not my fault his server didn't understand me when I ordered "yellowtail sashimi" neither was the questionable quality of the sashimi I was served. Don't worry; I won't be back.

I came to this restaurant after spending all day at the hospital across the street for my daughter so I was hungry and emotionally drained. When I walked in, I was promptly directed to where I should go so I could place a takeout order. The genuine courtesy of the staff here was just what I needed after a long day. Lots of great options for sushi but ramen sounded amazing on a chilly winter day. I ordered a couple options and requested for the toppings to be separated so my picky eater could pick out what she didn't like. The food was out promptly and packaged with such care. Once I got it back to my daughter's hospital room, we were able to feast on the best meal we had all day. I will definitely be coming back to this place again and I am grateful for their kindness just when I needed it. Highly recommend! read more
Wow, I love this spot. The inside was clean and inviting, with plenty of seating and shades that made it feel a little more intimate. Our server was attentive, happy hour was good and everything came out quickly. The cucumber salad was super refreshing and gyoza were yummy with a delicious sauce. We ordered sake bombs, and I absolutely love that they serve them with frosty chilled glasses. We tried two different ramen bowls and both were packed with flavor. The spice levels felt pretty accurate, the eggs were cooked perfectly, the meat was tender, and the noodles had a great texture. Each bowl had its own flavor profile, but both were equally delicious. We also tried the takoyaki (octopus balls). I was already getting full, so I wasn't as excited about them, but my boyfriend described them as a BBQ pancake bite. Overall, this is a great spot for ramen. I did notice the music was all girl bands and no boy bands. Clean restaurant, good service, flavorful food, and a fun atmosphere. I have to be honest here. I only recently started trying Ramen. I don't know why, but I always told myself that I didn't like it. Anyway, this was only the second time I've ever eaten restaurant Ramen. The first time was so-so. And I was eager to see how much better it could be. So my wife started to do a little research and found that Daruma had really good reviews. So we gave it a shot. I have to say that I was very impressed with my Ramen. It was galaxy's better than the first one I tried. I can't wait to try a different one next time. Aside from the wonderful food. The staff there was really nice. They greeted us right away and quickly got us seated. Our server was also very friendly and attentive. The dining area was pretty clean and inviting too! read more

Food was so yummy here and filling. The ramen I got had the richest broth and the pork was juicy and tender. The waiters here are as incredible as the food made here. Makes for a perfect date night experience or group setting Seriously, the waiters went above and beyond when I went. They are SO friendly and attentive!! But without being overbearing. I really appreciated them during my dinner The menu here has a handful of ramen selections, several sushi options and appetizers to start. Everything I had here was delicious!! I'm definitely ok'ing back and recommending this spot to my friends Alaskan roll -- 10/10. Everything I love in a sushi roll, down to the buttery baked salmon. It was perfectly savory Heart attack -- 10/10. Be careful with these, these are actually a little bit spicy! They're so tasty though, and a classic jalapeño bomb that's a great intro to your dinner Garlic edamame -- 6/10. This was the only thing that was a tad plain. Not in a bad way! Tried this place for the first time the other day and was impressed by the food. They had a lot of different options when it came to noodles/ramen, sushi, and rice dishes. We ended up getting their Mayu Tonkotsu and their salmon sushi roll. The ramen was very tasty and flavorful. It was very savory and had a strong umami flavor from the mushrooms. The broth was very good as well. Only thing is that I wish they would give a little bit more pork belly with the ramen. Also I got the spicy level 3 and was definitely caught off guard. I'm not someone that eats super spicy but I can handle spicy for the most part and level 3 spice definitely was the most I could go without it overpowering the actual taste and me having to drown myself in water. What was also great about the food was that it was good quality for a great price. The two ramens and sushi roll were only 35 dollars without tip and the portions were huge and the happy hour menu was great as well. Ambiance is what you would think a ramen place would look like and the service was okay. I don't blame the guy but they were definitely understaffed when we went. There was only 1 guy who I'm guessing was the manager that was running around serving drinks, taking orders, and serving food to all the tables, so there was a bit of wait. Ok, was looking for something here in Mesa, found this place on Yelp, then Saw the BOSS LADY Joyce "Jwow" likes it, so I must go now! The heart attack was AWESOME! Jalapeño was hot, with the crispy textures & sweet tasting sauce. The dobson roll is the best roll I have had in years! I'm not a California roll guy, I prefer actual fish vs a crab mix, but this was my 1st visit, so let's do this! The dobson has such great balance & flavor, I tried to savor every bite to meme l make it last longer. The Salmon roll was good as well, but that dobson was so good as was the heart attack. Quick service, fresh food, very casual environment with 25-30 tables. There's no traditional sushi counter which is odd, but the food is excellent! read more

I've been to several ramen restaurants in search of an authentic bowl, and recently tried this place. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen and added the spicy option for an extra dollar--which I found a bit funny, but didn't mind. Unfortunately, the broth didn't taste authentic. It was dark in color, whereas a traditional tonkotsu broth should be rich, creamy, and milky from being slow-cooked for over 12 hours. The noodles were also different from what I prefer. They weren't bad, but I personally enjoy a firmer, slightly chewy texture. These noodles were soft, and after a few bites, they made me feel full quickly. The fried shallots were overcooked and bitter. The eggs texture was excellent. That said, it's still a decent spot to try ramen. It just didn't quite match my expectations for authenticity. read more

I've tried both locations now and I'd like to say that this one definitely has more space inside. The food was amazing. We tried the dumplings with soup and those had so much flavor. For the ramen you can add as much spice as you like, I like my ramen to be on the spicier side so you can always ask for more sauce on the side. The chasu in the ramen has like a smokey flavor to it which makes it 10x better. The service wasn't so bad, it was a little busy but we were still getting checked on constantly to see how we were. read more

Delicious spot for a casual date night. The place was well laid out with space between tables so you don't feel overcrowded. Even though it was busy, our server was attentive and we did not have to wait long for anything. I really enjoyed my tuna roll and kyudon. My husband definitely won the night with his beef teriyaki though. It was flavorful and tender. Overall, this is a great spot to go! read more

We have been to Daruma several times now and it is always just wonderful! Great service, tasty giant portions of Ramen, and it should be noted they have a vegetarian/vegan one that's not on the menu that my guy loves. Their happy hour / lunch specials are every day, for extended hours and such great prices. should be noted they are closed on Tuesday though. I personally don't like seaweed, so I get soy paper on my rolls, and he gets his vegan friendly. Best crispy cauliflower ever, and we can't get enough of their super tasty cucumber salad that has sesame oil, rice vinegar, a little chili pepper and some fresh garlic. Yum Yum! Great vibe, nice music, definitely a must try. read more

It had been almost 4 years since I last dined here. We weren't too hungry so decided to grab a light bite. The menu is very different than what I remember. They offer a happy hour menu all day Monday thru Thursdays and 11:30-4 pm on Fridays. Hubs always orders spicy tuna roll $5.95, and I ordered a Halloween roll $7.95 ( shrimp salad, cucumber, masago and avocado) it was light and tasty especially with the sauce that was on the side. We also got a free order of gyoza with Yelp check in. It ended up being a very cheap lunch! The regular prices seemed very reasonable too. Service was very friendly and fast. Would definitely come again when we have a bigger appetite as I want to try their ramen and other rolls. read more

As someone who moved from Oregon, I've had high expectations for seafood here in the Valley. I've tried a few places in Scottsdale like RA Sushi, which was good, but a bit on the pricey side. Then I discovered Daruma by Rie, and it's truly exceptional when it comes to Japanese sushi and katsu. The fact that it's within walking distance of my home makes it even better. Although I've only had takeout (my partner isn't a sushi fan), every dish I've tried has been fantastic. Whenever I pick up my order, I notice how busy the restaurant is--there are often lines, limited seating, and the place is always packed. Despite the crowd, they've consistently had my food ready on time, even during peak hours. Some of my favorite dishes are the crispy rice with spicy tuna, the Heart Attack, tuna carpaccio, Fire Roll, and Dobson Roll. There's still so much of the menu to explore, with options like sashimi, noodles, and katsu. Each visit, I look forward to trying something new. If you're in the Mesa area, just outside of the Asian District, Daruma by Rie is a must-visit! read more

My partner and I came here for lunch on Sunday to check out the Mesa area. Daruma is located in a strip mall, and there's plenty of free parking on premise that's shared with other businesses. The staff are friendly and attentive here. I love their open kitchen concept, how everything is made to order, and they were also efficient and accurate. Every dish we ordered was everything we expected and more. We tried their gyoza, crispy rice with spicy tuna, seaweed salad, a California roll, and probably like 6 rounds of their spicy tuna rolls (yes it was that good). My partner also had a glass of their red wine - it's 5:00 somewhere! We enjoyed the food here and would totally come back when we're in the area next. I'd recommend Daruma to anyone in the area looking for sushi and Japanese cuisine. read more
