Our waiter was more than helpful and informative. I never say this but, everything was great! The tacoyaki was some of the best we've had. Lots of times we've had them and we're pasty and not to pleasant. These we exceptional. Texture and flavor was perfect. The karaage chicken was our first time. Unbelievable! Crispy, juicy and full of flavor. The dipping sauce was something new to us but, awesome! The sushi roll had a ponzu sauce it was bathed in. New experience but oh so good! Last but not least, the spicy ramen! Noodles cooked to perfection. Tasty and spicy broth. The waiter recommended level 3 if I like spicy. He doesn't know me! He brought me an side of extra spicy oil. Great food. I'd been here a couple of months ago and was concerned when I first walked in. The place was nearly empty. There was one other couple when we came by for dinner. I am glad to report that tonight, a Saturday night, they were packed as I came by to pickup my order. The first time I had some chicken teriyaki as well as some sushi roll, but do not recall what it was, and my girl had their jalapeño poppers, but they were so much more than what you would expect. I believe it was the requisite items that would make it a jalapeño popper as well as some spicy tuna. For the pickup order tonight, we had some California roll, an avocado shrimp tempura roll, a sunset roll, and some chicken yakisoba. They knocked it out of the park. Food - 10/10 Service - impeccable We recently visited Daruma for dinner with family and the experience was an absolute 10/10. We got there around 6pm and there wasn't a wait but the restaurant did fill up by around 7. We ordered the crispy spicy tuna, spicy tuna roll, and Vegas roll to start with and they were all great. The Vegas roll was one of the best we've had. We also ordered the Miso Butter Ramen both regular and spicy and the chicken kaarage katsu bowl. Everything was delicious and came out quickly. This is a great place to get authentic Japanese food. We stumbled on this place when the wait was to long at another restaurant in the same center. It was the first week they were opened, and we keep coming back. The dining room is very kind of industrial chic with a Japanese flair--painted block walls, exposed ducts, etc. There is a portrait of the chef (I presume?) painted in the wall and a few darumas in the corner. Everything we have ever ordered here is amazing. From the ramen to the sushi to the takoyaki, it's all fantastic. Great, authentic Japanese food served by friendly, helpful servers. Stopped in here on the way back from far East Mesa. It was a little past the normal lunch time and we were warmly greeted and seated right away. We ordered gyoza, spicy miso ramen and chicken teriyaki. The latter came with miso soup that was served first. Next came the teriyaki...on a hot sizzling plate! Wow. Generous chunks of chicken were sizzling upon a bed of zucchini and onion that caramelized beautifully as the plate cooled. This may be our new standard by which future teriyaki is compared! It was easily 105 degrees outside but my tastebuds wanted ramen! Opted for the spicy miso ramen with chicken and that was a good choice. Expecting chunks of chicken, I was surprised that it came with kaarage (fried) chicken, which was superbly seasoned and a great complement to the ramen. This was traditional straight noodle ramen and the noodles were perfectly cooked. The gyoza? They were basic gyoza. Doubtful they were anything other than premade gyoza. If the chefs want to kick it up a notch, they should try making them from scratch since everything else was so very good. The strip mall that houses this shop has at least five other Asian restaurants. They might all be good, but try Daruma first. read more

Stumbled upon this place as our usual Ramen spot, Dozo Izakaya was closed. Black Mayu Tonkotsu ramen was good and had an almost smoky garlicky flavor. Since it was happy hour, also got an order of spicy tuna rolls and fried gyoza which was okay. All day happy hour M-Th! Still prefer Dozo, but Daruma is a great option for Ramen in the valley. read more

Staff said they came out and called us but its not true as we were jus standing outside the place. Nevertheless went in to wait for another 10 mins as was being told table is almost ready. Salmon Sushi nigiri was so fresh and tasted so good. I should have ordered only Sushi. I ordered regular Udon and Tempura combo. Udon was ok, tempura combo had 1 shrimp, green beans and a couple slices of yam or sweet potatoes and they were good. But I wasn't a fan of Taro potato in my Tempura. I wish they had more vegetables and not potatoes. I'm Japanese so my expectations may be a little higher than most people. read more

This place has been on my list for some time now and it did not disappoint! Ordered Heart Attack jalapeños to start, which stayed nice and crunchy even after being fried. Followed by mayu tonkotsu with a spice level of 3 (and extra spice on the side) which has amazing pork that has a good sear on it that carried over once being put in the ramen. I'm not a big fan of covering my sushi in sauces so I'll skip it from now on. This is a spicy tuna roll topped with avocado and salmon. The roll was a nice size and tasted very fresh. The avocado roll and salmon roll were a bit heavy on the rice and light on the filling. I will stick to specialty rolls in the future. I also got the goma cucumber sunomono - basically sliced pickled cucumber- which was very tasty, and the fresh wasabi. It's actually kizami wasabi which I love. I am currently sitting inside the restaurant around 815 on at Saturday night. We were greeted and seated promptly, but then thats when the issues began. No one greeted us at our table for a bit, finally a white gentleman came and asked if anyone got our drinks, we politely said no. Ordered our waters, he then brought us our three waters then scurried away. As several employees walked by us and looked our way, none came by to see if we were ready to order. 4 FOH employees and not a single person was doing their job. I watched several other tables get annoyed as well, waiting for checks, walking up to pay, or waiting for a server or trying to flag someone down. Finally, we got the attention of the white gentleman again and put in a ramen as an appetizer. As our ramen got served by the black hair girl with the glasses, we asked if we could get bowls ( which the white guy also brought to us later) and if we can put in our order because we've been waiting. " Yes let me go get bowls, and a pen and paper and I'll be back." She walked by us like atleast 5 times and looked at us but never came back to us. I had to turn around and wait for someone to actually acknowledge me. Once again no one did, so I was fed up and called for the guy with the bandana that was just standing there in lala land. We asked if we could get a server to take our order. He just turned around and walked back and grabbed the lady with her hair tied back. She came and took our order... Never in my life have I had such terrible service. I don't understand how this place has such high ratings. This place did have good ramen/ food so that's where one of the stars comes from, and the other star goes to the white guy. I would suggest to-go if you wanna eat here. read more

This place had been on my radar ever since they opened up in the spot that used to be part of the old Asiana grocery store, but I never had the chance to go try them out until recently. We came in on a Monday around noon and were immediately seated and asked for drinks promptly right after. After looking over the menu, we decided to start with gyoza and chicken kaarage. The gyoza was good, a classic that one can never go wrong with. The sauce was also to our liking, it had a good amount of vinegar, enough to give it that tart kick that some sauces at other places lack. The chicken kaarage was fried to perfection and surprisingly tender, wasn't dry or tough at all which is always a good sign. However, we didn't care for the sauce that came with it. For our main entrees, we decided to order the dynamite roll, a spicy tonkotsu ramen, and a regular tonkotsu ramen. The dynamite roll was good, similar to how it is at other places. The spicy tonkotsu ramen was delicious, the noodles were plentiful, bouncy and chewy, and the soup was chock full of flavor. After trying the spicy tonkotsu ramen, the regular one paled in comparison in flavor but was still delicious in its own right. What probably surprised us the most were the portion sizes. Generous at reasonable prices! Overall, service was attentive and friendly. The ambiance was lowkey, laid back and comfortable, which was really surprising since it was hard to imagine how they would remodel the space since it used to be part of a grocery store. read more

Broth that's a warm hug for your soul, and flavors so bold, they practically slap you silly. Only downside?
