I like this place but here's my honest review. Staff was good. I was promptly seated and they were very polite. Tables are clean and organized. I'm not a huge fan of the chopsticks box even though it's a fun touch. Only reason is who knows what grimy fingers been in there. Have you noticed how many guys don't wash hands after leaving bathroom... The place is designed formaximizing the amount of customers. A lot of tables for the space which I don't mind at all. But it generates a longer wait for food. It was on the edge of me almost having that creeping thought of why the food wasn't there yet but had some good friends there. Restaurant got lucky hahaha. Ramen broth was very good. I had zero issues with it and the depth and thickness were fantastic. Meat was well cooked but for me it didn't really add that much value to the bowl. I think I will get the simplest bowl with noodles only and just get the meat combo on the side. The noodles were cooked and good quality. The only thing that I was confused was how strong the flour and wheat flavor was on the noodles. It was to the point where it over powered the broth and the starch was super strong almost powdery. Went on their grand opening day Saturday, and my first impression was great. The ambiance was really nice, and the service was super friendly. The only thing I noticed was that the tables were a little close together, but I understand they're trying to make the most of the space. We started with a few appetizers, including the chashu fried rice, which was good but nothing special. The spicy karaage was okay, kind of dry but the sauce really made it stand out. The clear favorite for me was the RB Roll. It was super fresh and easily the standout dish from my dining experience. The classic tonkotsu was great as well. The broth was clean and flavorful, and the noodles had a perfect texture. My only real complaint is the price of the additional toppings, especially something as simple as an egg. I'm so glad this place replaced the other ramen place that it used to be. This is real ramen. This place just opened and they didn't have a couple things because it was coming from Japan. That's ok! I can always come back and try this place again. It was a little empty for early evening on a Thursday but it quickly filled up as the hour passed. The place is simple with lots of tables. The kitchen is open so you can see what's going on. We tried the fried rice with the pork chasu. This is a smaller appetizer size and easy to eat up. I ordered the Premium Tonkatsu without any spice. I loved the chewy noodles and soft egg. The pork belly and butt pieces were also nice and tender and the broth was flavorful and creamy. I would definitely come back to try more items. The only odd thing that I didn't understand was the waitress kept inquiring about our utensils in the utensil cup. She asked a few times if we were going to use the spoons and forks for the table, which we ended up using. Pro-tip: The rolls are a much better value than the Crudo. If you're not one to drink all the broth like me and you're coming with another person, you could opt to order the premium tonkatsu and get an extra portion of noodles and share both. Highlights: The food is delicious - I enjoyed both the ramen and the sushi dishes. The flavor of the ramen broth is very authentic and rich and I also enjoy this type of noodle and it was cooked to a really nice texture as well. The sushi flavor profiles are tasty. The ambience is really nice and intimate, and there is a lot of seating. Lowlights: I definitely think it's overpriced. The portion of ramen and fish in the crudo plates was pretty shocking to me. This place was ok. Not the worst ramen I've had but not the best. Karaage was very disappointingly small. Any other place I've tried has better chicken. As someone who swears by Ichiran, I was excited to try Iro Shoten, and I'm so glad I did. Tonkotsu is my favorite type of ramen. I'm definitely a pork broth person, and until now, I hadn't been impressed by any of the tonkotsu ramen I've tried in the Valley. The broth here is excellent. It's rich, flavorful, and tastes quite similar to Ichiran. The noodles are thin and have the perfect texture. The portion size is perfectly filling, but if extra large "American" portions are your thing, you can always order extra noodles (kaedama). They were out of eggs on their first day, so we ordered the classic tonkotsu ramen without toppings and added chashu and nori separately. The chashu was tender and delicious, though the pieces were smaller than what you get at Ichiran. We also tried the sushi rolls, and they were excellent too. This will definitely be our go-to spot for tonkotsu ramen in the Valley from now on. We also heard they'll be expanding the menu after the grand opening to include chicken broth options. Happy to finally have a tonkotsu place here that hits the spot! read more

Very good ramen! And a dark, warm, and ambient atmosphere. Very creamy broth and thin noodles. The broth was a hair too fatty for me, it also made it very filling. I will say, I see a lot of reviews comparing it to Mensho.. and I think that's fair given the price point, but I'd still give it to Mensho for quantity and quality personally, as well as garnishes. Although the richness of the broth will still make you equally as full probably. And don't get me wrong, it's still amazing and more convenient for those in the area. Obviously this is subjective. We went on a weekday and it was still quite packed, so I'd say shoot for a weekday or off hour more than likely while everyone's showing up close to the opening date. In summary: Great food and ambiance! Best ramen in the valley..? It's probably up there! I'll be back when they get their liquor license so I can get Sapporo on draft. Tried Iro Shoten last night finally. Was truly impressed with flavors and quality of everything we had. This is a premium ramen sushi experience so yes it's slightly higher in price but you can taste why. We tried the Premium Tonkatsu Ramen which was rich, smooth and umami. The pork broth takes 14+ hours to make apparently. The noodle itself is also perfectly made in house with a lovely texture. Bowl is on the smaller side but you can order a side or noddles if you're hungry. This is pretty common when I was in Japan too. The premium ramen places I went to had smaller bowls and optional extra noodles. Another pleasant surprise was the RB Roll we ordered. One of the best rolls we've had in a long time. The flavors and texture were so well balanced and loved the yuzu sauce too. Overall 5/5 and will be back. read more

This place can't not be compared but I rate it 9 maybe even a 10/10 I've tried so hard to find THE BEST ramen in Az and this is unmatched. We received one very small, thin piece of meat along with one whole egg. We also ordered the regular Tonkatsu Ramen, and there didn't seem to be much of a difference between the two aside from the price. The avocado roll was also quite small--about the size of a quarter. The broth had an okay flavor, but overall, I wasn't particularly impressed with the meal. Note: Went to this place on day 1 of their soft opening, and while the service was long, I think, given more normal circumstances, the service will be better in time. They really do try to utilize as much floor space as possible for tables. The inside is pretty modern, and with all the windows, everything felt bright. The downside though is that the restaurant was kind of uncomfortably hot after you start eating lol. I think given how many bodies were in the room + the ramen making in the back, it just got... REALLY hot. Like, my friend had to leave as soon as he finished his ramen because he was so hot. I order the karaage and the mid-tier ramen. The karaage was crispy, but it was $7 for 5 small pieces. :( I didn't feel like it was that good where I'd order it again given the price. They have a spicy version (same price), but the only difference is in the sauce they bring out--one is a spicy sauce, and the other is, well, plain. The ramen was delicious. I felt the broth was very flavourful. The noodles were a bit overcooked though. My boyfriend is Japanese, and he was saying that for this style of ramen, it's better for the noodles to be more al dente, but al dente it was not. It wasn't mushy by any means, and for me--I'm not a ramen expert like he is, so it still tasted fine. My complaints though (and why I'm deducting a star) is that the ramen portion is honestly so small for the price. The bowl itself is tiny. The pieces of meat they give you are SO thin, and I swear I only got 2 tiny pieces. The egg was really good though. My friend got the super chashumen, and I think that is a ripoff of a bowl. It's more expensive, you do not get the egg, and you get more tiny tiny pieces of meat, but proportionally, it's all the same amount of food as the basic and mid-tier ramen. I feel like if you call it "super" it should at least come with more food. The service... Like I said, I believe the service will get better. What I did not like though was that I found a grain of rice in my water cup... The water cups aren't even BY the kitchen. I wanted to get a new water cup, but our server kind of disappeared after the initial order taking, so my friends and I actually just got our own drink refills ourselves (whether or not that was wrong... no idea). I think we were sitting in the restaurant for a little over 2 hours, and getting a server to our table was near impossible unless we literally went up to them or started aggressively waving them down. Some people who were seated after us (table of 4) got their meals before my table did (table of 5). I came out of this experience honestly still hungry. I feel like I could probably eat 2 ramens given their size. I think this IS one of the better ramen places in AZ, but I think for the price and the size, it's still a splurge, just like how Mensho is a splurge. The food itself was a 4/5 stars, but I think overall, it was more of a 3-3.5 star experience. I think I would come back... It was their soft opening so things weren't running as smoothly as I'm sure they will get with proper time and training but they all worked together and were happy to help. Iro Shoten is a wonderful representation of true Japanese ramen. We are so blessed to have this shop in the Valley. The broth is a thick and unctuous compliment to the thin housemade noodles. The flavors are simple, delicate, and allow the ingredients to speak for themselves. While some find the portion of pork slices to be too small, ramen is traditionally known for the broth and noodles, not the toppings. If someone wants more pork, you can add a side for $5. Was super excited to get to try Iro Shoten for a late lunch today! Saw it recently on Instagram and am quite a ramen aficionado. Honestly, as far as flavor goes- this is probably the best ramen I've had in AZ. The only thing that people mention they don't like in the reviews is the portion size which is why the rating is not a 5 star. I feel like you are paying for premium quality, and I still left full after eating there. Who really finishes their whole bowl when they go to a normal Ramen place anyway. Literally some of the best ramen I've had in Arizona. They ran out of eggs on opening day so I have to go back to try but I'm sure they will exceed expectations. Atmosphere is great and service was SO quick. I got the yellowtail crudo and it was exactly what you would expect. The only small complaint I have is the meat/fish serving size is a lot smaller than you would expect (perfect for me because I can never finish my ramen) so if you are expecting to be completely full I would get an appetizer like the shrimp tempura. read more
