What an incredible dinner! My family and I came here on a Saturday evening, and the restaurant was pretty busy. I would say that if you're coming to eat here on a weekend day, make a reservation, since it is a pretty small restaurant. The service overall was a little bit slow; it took them some time to take our order and greet us, but they recently opened and still trying to get their bearings straight. We decided to do family style to try more things, and everything we ate was so good! If there's one thing I would highly recommend, it would be the Drunken Noodles. They are so flavorful and cooked to perfection. That was probably my favorite dish that we had. Crab Rangoon portions are a little small for the price, but the filling was good and not totally cream cheese heavy. I would definitely come here again! The Valley just got an excellent new Thai restaurant! Everything we ordered at Jao Sua was fantastic. We started with the kanom jeeb (chicken and shrimp dumplings). The dumplings, topped with crispy garlic and served with a mildly sweet sauce, tasted like something you'd get from a random stall in Bangkok. Next was the tuna nam tok. A lot of Thai restaurants in the US miss the balance on dishes like nam tok and laab. They can end up too sweet, too salty, or not sour enough. This one was spot on. The flavors were really well balanced, and the tuna was fresh. For entrees, we got the Bangkok pad thai and crab fried rice. I'm a big fan of pad thai with thinner rice noodles, and this place delivers. The crab fried rice was probably the highlight of the night. It had great wok flavor and big lumps of crab throughout. The Thai seafood sauce on the side adds a nice burst of flavor, but the fried rice is already good enough on its own. We finished with the bua loy. The bua loy itself was great, but we thought the coconut ice cream was way too sweet. That was really the only thing we didn't like. The space is gorgeous and thoughtfully done, and the service was excellent too. Jao Sua is a great addition to downtown Mesa. We'll definitely be back! read more

Beautiful spot on Main Street in Downtown Mesa. Had to try and so happy we did. Love the duo of Thai and sushi options along with a nice cocktail menu. We tried the duck rolls (Wow) Jao Sua Roll (wow again) and the Rib Curry plate (WOWWW). So thankful that there was a reopening of a sushi place in DT Mesa. Offering mainly Thai and sushi dishes, there's alot to try here and I'm sure from the few items we chose, everything is packed with flavor. For sushi we got the spicy tuna roll and rainbow roll - both were presented in an aesthetic way and were tasty; great sharable options. My favorite dish was the fried calamari appetizer primarily due to it's absolutely delicious, spicy sauce. The calamari pieces/meat content were a bit smaller than my liking, but had a nice crunch and were seasoned perfectly. I need the spicy sauce recipe... Staff is attentive, we went on a pretty hot day and the inside isn't as air conditioned as some other places, so it felt a bit stuffy. I recommend taking a little fan or visiting when it's less than a million degrees outside. Would love to try out their noodles or fried rice dishes next :) read more

This low key restaurant is easy to miss, but it is absolutely gorgeous inside. I loved the decor and ambiance. The menu is quite unique. It's absolutely rooted in authentic Thai, but with some Chinese flair (present in some dishes more than other). Highlights: - noodle texture was amazing, reminded me of noodles I had in Thailand - the crab noodles I had in particular had amazing flavor and GENEROUS crab. Huge chunks! - shrimp donuts were super unique. Savory, and reminiscent of crab claw puffs you would have at dim sum - the staff were amazing and super friendly Slight misses: - the fish portion was generous, but I found the tamarind flavor to be a little lacking. The fish also seemed slightly overcooked as the smaller pieces were a little dried out and tough tasting - the wings were a bit small and I wasn't a fan of how they were cut. Kind of prefer to leave the flat whole Overall though we had a great experience and it's worth checking out. I would definitely come back to try other dishes! read more

I'm so happy I get to be the first review. I'm going to spoil the review by saying, good lord it was so good. I visited Thailand just a couple months ago and ate everything I could get my hands on. The food there was incredible. Fast forward to now, I've been craving an authentic Thai meal to bring back the memories. This place perfectly reproduced some of my favorite meals. First, we started with a papaya salad. Every papaya salad I had in Thailand was beyond spicy, so when I was asked if I wanted it Thai spicy I had to say yes. It did not disappoint. I was practically crying after a few bites, but the flavor was so good. I've had a few papaya salads in the states, but a lot of the time they don't add the fish sauce which makes it taste slightly different. That was not the case here, it was perfect Next we tried the tofu tempura. It was so crispy but each bite was also light and fluffy. And the sauce added great flavor. You get quite a few but I blinked and they were gone. I couldn't stop myself from scarfing them down. I had the pad Thai for my entree. I am VERY picky about pad Thai. I ordered pad Thai from nearly every restaurant I ate at in Thailand. And I get it at every Thai restaurant I eat at in the states. I know my favorites and if a Thai place doesn't have good pad Thai, even if everything else is great, there's a good chance I won't eat there again. I genuinely worry when I have the first bite because it makes or breaks a Thai restaurant for me. I love Main Street and all the great food there so I really wanted this place to make my favorites list. And fortunately for me the pad Thai was superb. The sauce was sweet and tangy, it had perfectly cooked noodles, and there was plenty of chicken. I cannot wait to order this pad Thai again. No more driving to phoenix for a good pad Thai. My partner ordered the khoa soi. I had a couple bites and really enjoyed it, it was so flavorful. She said her favorite khao soi was in Chang Mai Thailand and that this one tasted almost identical. She was practically crying when we left because she had been craving it so much. Finally, we finished the night with the mango sticky rice. No notes, it was delicious. The Crab Fried Rice was outstanding. Packed with generous portions of crab, perfectly seasoned, and bursting with flavor, it was easily one of the best fried rice dishes we've had. Every bite was delicious and kept us coming back for more. The Sashimi Roll was equally impressive. The fish was incredibly fresh, melted in your mouth, and was presented beautifully. We ate here today, the food was great. The atmosphere and decor are nice, too. We arrived around noon (Sunday) and it wasn't too busy, but it got busy as we ate--was full when we left. I had the yellow curry with chicken and it was excellent. The medium spice was just right, the chicken was tender, veggies cooked perfectly. My daughter had the chicken fried rice and definitely enjoyed it and the fun expandable straws they gave her with her soda. The rest of our table really enjoyed their food, as well, and the waitress and staff were very friendly. Absolutely worth checking out if you're in DT Mesa looking for Thai food. read more

This place popped up on my husband's foodie algorithm on Facebook and I'm soooo glad it did. We maybe over ordered, but the entire menu looked amazing and we wanted to try it all. We started with the Curry Puffs and the Salted Pepper Fried Calamari. I honestly couldn't choose which one I liked more. The puffs came with the most delicious curry sauce and I'm weak for calamari in general. The sauce with the calamari was also phenomenal. Then for entrees I got the Braised Short Rib Curry, my husband got the Yaowarat Noodles and we split the Spicy Tuna Roll. The curry was absolute heaven -- the short rib melted right off the bone. The bite of hubby's noodles I had was wonderfully spicy and flavorful. And the sushi was honestly a more generous portion then I think either of us were expecting. By this point, both of us had stuffed ourselves silly... yet he still ordered two desserts. The first one was the Bau Loy with Coconut Ice Cream, which neither of us knew what that was.... but it was great! The cold ice cream with the warm rice flour balls were a delightful combo and it wasn't too sweet (which are our fave kind of desserts). The second one was their Mango Sticky Rice, and that's just always the comforting end of meal hug that I look forward to. We ended the meal uncomfortably full and unexpectedly elated to have this superb Thai restaurant in the heart of downtown Mesa. We will be back. Probably tomorrow. read more

We just tried this place for the first time. We've been longtime customers Nunthaporn and when she retired and sold to PP Thai and sushi we tried them twice and it really didn't compare to Nunthaporn so we never went back. Back to this review it was really good and comparable to Nunthaporns The atmosphere is nice. The food was beautiful the way they presented and it tasted wonderful. Plus they brought back a lunch special, which is very good for the area and that restaurant. She used to have one years ago and it really was a good value and we always went there for lunch. I hope they get some business because it's worthy of a try. It was delicious and we will definitely be back. We moved far so it's quite a trek for us in so it's gotta be good. Food was delicious! About as authentic as it gets. Ordered the calamari and Tuna Nam Tok as an appetizer, both were super yummy. Drunken noodles and garlic black pepper beef for entrees, also delicious. Remember, Thai spice is way hotter than the usual "hot". Ordered medium spice and it was almost too hot for even my husband who has habanero everything. The mango sticky rice was probably the best I've ever had. They are still working out some front of the house kinks as they are a new restaurant, but the vibes were good and food was even better. Definitely recommend! read more

Wow. I have not had Thai food this delicious since moving to AZ, including some of the well-known ones in Phoenix. This is as good as you find in Boston or San Fran. My son threatened to drink the remaining green curry sauce when we were done. Everything was perfect, but the green curry with tofu and the Pad Se Ew were the stars of the show. Downtown Mesa ; 3rd Thai restaurant in as many years at 17 W Main St Mesa, AZ 85201. Nunthaporn was okay but I wound up never returning, never tried the 2nd restaurant that was called PP thai and sushi. I hope it's latest incarnation of Jao Sua is here to stay! Apps were Curry Puffs and the Salted Pepper Fried Calamari. The curry puffs were flaky and mild, great vegetarian option to start for those inclined. The Calamari I liked even more, relatively light batter but with a super punchy sauce flooded with chilies, fish sauce, and way more lime than usual ( in a great, truly great way ). Entrees were Braised Short Rib Curry and the Yaowarat Noodles. The curry leaned sweet but was still beautiful rich flavors. The beef shredded effortlessly but still put up the right amount of resistance as you chewed through it, and the carrots + potatoes were a gentler foil to the rest of the intensity going on. The Yaowarat were wide flat egg noodles with crab as the protein, with simply steamed bok choy as the quiet counterpoint to the crazy flavors going on elsewise. Thai hot actually meant thai hot, and I was suffering in bliss as the chili oil wrapped noodle, crab, and leaf in a whirlwind of pain and flavor. Despite this description this was actually my least favorite dish, but I mean that in the sense that my index finger is probably my least favorite digit, but I still don't want to go through life with out mr. index or miss Yaowarat. We concluded with the desserts, first of which was the Bau Loy with Coconut Ice Cream. The bracingly cold ice cream floated above a sweet warm soup with tapioca ( maybe? ) balls drifting along, and everything lathered with the cream that accompanies Mango Sticky rice. So far as the actual Mango Sticky Rice is concerned, it was exactly as expected without any surprises, but a final testimonial to the excellence of this chef and hopefully future Mesa downtown culinary institution. Quick warning, we went on the 2nd day of their soft opening and only thing available to drink yesterday was water. They literally got their liquor license yesterday + imagining their real opening sometime towards end of the month. If visiting proceed with expectations of great food, a little slower timing, and completely unknown liquid refreshment availability outside of water. read more

Food and overall atmosphere were incredible. Service was attentive and kind. We had several appetizers and entrees that were all tasty. When we raised a concern about one of the shrimp in our dish not being deveined they addressed it right away and offered to make it right by taking it off of our bill. They also offered us a complimentary dessert which was incredible. The owner stopped by our table to speak with us asking how our meal was. You could tell his passion for the food. He was also very kind to my young son. Which as a dad I always appreciate. We went on a Friday night. We were seated right away. Staff were great. The food not so much. I had the pineapple fried rice #3 spicy. It came zero spicy, and the chicken and seafood in the dish were very, very dry and flavorless. Hubby had the crab fried rice. Again the crab was very very dry and the dish had no flavor. It may have just been an off night. I think it's worth a visit, but it's one and done for us. read more

As a lover of Thai food, I had to stop by and check out this establishment after seeing all the great reviews. I have to admit I was really impressed with several items on this menu. We started with the Shishito peppers, tuna Tataki, the yellowtail jalapeño, and the dumplings. They all were fresh, and very well prepared. Then got the wagyu fried rice and a shrimp tempura roll. The roll was fresh, but pretty standard. As for the the fried rice WOW !! we ended it with a Thai tea and mango sticky rice. Both were excellent. We loved that the owners came out to personally thank us for being there. Asked what we like. What we didn't like. Asked for our opinions on things. We will definitely be back. read more
