12 west is generally a solid option for food and drinks in Downtown Mesa. I used to really love coming here when Mike was one of the main bartenders, he made excellent cocktails. I've been here a bunch of times over the years. Giving 4 stars simply due a mix of experiences, good and meh. Most recently we sat at the cocktail bar ordered a beer & whiskey sour. Drinks came quickly but then it took a while for anyone to ask if we wanted food (we originally intended to). I think what happened is that our original bartender may have gone on break, while a new person coming on shift was busy doing things and didn't know to check with us since we already had drinks in front of us. It wasn't a major issue. It just created a long gap which gave us the option to decide to go elsewhere. We also noticed the beer we ordered was flat and we eventually let the new bartender know. She offered to get us a pint of something else but we had decided today wasn't our day at 12 West and move on. Typically beers are great, cocktails are solid, and food is good too. Where do I begin? Kinda bummed I had a much different experience than my fellow Yelp elites. We came on a Sunday and were seated right away. Two different servers came to our table trying to take our order while visibly arguing about who will serve us. They worked it out and the one server that kept us--was just not great. She was very slow to return to our table and check in on us. I think we waited 15-20 mins to finally get an order placed. She told my fiancé one of his beer choices was sold out but minutes later the table behind us with a different server was able to order it. Maybe she's new? New to serving (she did spill a tray of water) so I understand some hiccups but it was rough. Not to mention there were 4 beers (well now maybe just 3) beers sold out...a brewery...down multiple beers. This was the start to our double date with family. Their happy hour has a decent price point, however, don't order the nachos. The nacho cheese was the type of cheese from a can that was watered down...it legit was watery and lacked cheese flavor. We were unable to finish them. You can get better nachos at Taco Bell. We were a party of 4---we all said the entrees were mid at best. None of us have dined here before but would be our last. When I first walked in I told my boyfriend this would be a great place for a company party or a wedding reception. The space was awesome, The Cellar downstairs was super cool! It seems like I'm not the only one who thought it was a great place for parties! We came on a Sunday and they had a brunch menu - I got the cactus breakfast tacos with potatoes and it was delicious!! First time to this location and brought friends with us. We were fortunate enough to get a free parking space across the street so it was a quick and easy walk over to the brewery. Everyone enjoyed our visit from the start to finish. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and seated immediately. Several in the group chose to get some of the home brewed goodness and were very happy with their beverages choice. We also got a little something for dinner too and everyone was also quite happy with their choices. We ordered a Reuben on rye w truffle fries, Charlie Hustle burger w coleslaw, Lemon pepper fried chicken sandwich w cajun fries, buffalo fried chicken sandwich w fries. No room for dessert today! The interior was very spacious with even more seating upstairs! There is even an elevator for those that need it. We ordered the truffle parmesan fries and the popcorn chicken to share and both were amazing! The popcorn chicken was very flavorful and surprisingly juicy (which isn't really the case when it comes to popcorn chicken). The truffle parmesan fries were very truffle-y, which I love. Enjoyed lunch at 12 West today. It's a great looking bar/ restaurant in downtown Mesa. With high ceilings, exposed brick, it has a rustic industrial warehouse feel to it, which I really, really like. There is a great patio out front where you can people watch in cooler weather. Our server was very friendly and helpful. He was happy to make the changes I requested, and the food came out pretty quickly. We ordered wings, and a fried chicken sandwich, buffalo style. I really liked the sandwich and the fries were also delish. I recently had the Cobb salad here, which was good, but had dressing that was way too thick. I've been excited to try this location out since they have food and cocktails, and it's a bigger space. We sat outside and it was perfect weather. We all ordered drinks and each of us enjoyed them, I got the prickly pear mule and it was one of the best mules I've ever had! They ordered the pretzel appetizer, and it was a pretty big portion. I ordered the turkey melt sandwich with fries and it was very good, a big portion too, I took half of it home and ate it the next day. Everyone else enjoyed their meals as well. I had been really looking forward to trying this place out. It is in a great location in Downtown Mesa and has a ton of space. We went on a Sunday after a kids' birthday party and we were seated right away. Unfortunately our less than stellar experience starts then with extremely slow service. Our kids were a bit irritable because they were starving and it took forever to get our food ordered. The food was pretty yummy and the kids enjoyed their kids meals. Their beer selection is good and the food is consistently delicious That said, I have to mention the service was lacking during my most recent visit. The restaurant wasn't busy at all, yet it felt like the staff was either distracted or disorganized. We usually go to the Gilbert location of 12 West, but we had been wanting to check out downtown Mesa, so here we are. We sat on the outside patio because we brought our puppy with us. The patio deck was nice and clean, however, I wish it was more covered and blocked the sun away. Since the deck was very close to the driveway, and there were a lot of loud cars, our puppy was super scared. As we were sipping our beer, we ordered a bunch of food, including fish and chips, hummus and pita bread, and chips and dips. Everything was so tasty and so affordable. We could not even finish everything so we brought the leftovers home. I think it would be fun to come here for a casual drink or two, or just enjoy the food! 12 West Brewing is located at 12 W. Main Street in Mesa, how clever! This is their second location, the first being in Gilbert. The interior is bigger than it appears with an upstairs section. Ambiance is modern and woodsy. There were several TVs playing the various games. Saturday night around 9:30/10PM was our first visit. There was about a 10 minute wait to be seated. Once we were seated, it was a good 10 minutes before our waitress came over and we ordered our food and drinks right away. Luckily, our BLT Burger ($16) came out right away- within 5 minutes! The BLT Burger was a good, standard bar/brewery burger. Cooked medium as asked. I ordered one of the newer cocktails, the Dragon Smoothie (I think?) and was dismayed it wasn't blended as "smoothie" would imply. Very coconutty so I passed that on to fiancé. His well vodka and soda was strong so they did give a good pour. Dismayed to read the recent reviews with bad service but that wasn't our experience; our waitress came by after we had gotten our food and checked on us a few times as we dined. Total of the bill (plus tip) was $48 for the burger and 2 drinks. Not the cheapest night out and costly by Mesa standards but definitely a relaxed, casual spot away from the Mill/Old Town scene. read more

The location is great in DT Mesa, with a lot of other restaurants, bars, entertainment, and the light rail all just moments away. Being restricted to gluten-free food and drinks, my first drink was a passionfruit cider (Cosmic?) - very good and would order that every time! But my second drink was even better - they made my go-to whiskey sour... and I thoroughly enjoyed every sip! Awesome! They don't offer many gluten-free options. I ordered the Hummus, but had they bring veggies instead of the normal pitas. The hummus was fantastic... and they brought out celery and carrots, so it would have been nice to have a few more veggie options included (tomatoes, cucumber, etc.).
