    Crab fried rice
    Gary G.

This restaurant although small is located in a good shopping center location with a large parking lot. They have colorful signs suggesting drinks and entrees. I ordered crab fried rice and wantons based on another review I read and was happy that I did. I wanted to take half of it home so I suggested to the server to place it in a to go box. When the food came out he would not let me sit at the bar and asked me to take it outside . When I discovered it was because I had a "to go" serving I apologized for asking for take- out service and if he would kindly put it on a plate. When he brought it on a plate I was allowed to stay at the bar. I needed to flag down my server to get water refilled, chopsticks, as well as the check. The food was 5 star but I did not have a warm experience overall.

One of my top Thai restaurants in greater Phoenix. They opened my eyes beyond the stereotypical dishes and have not looked back! Kor moo yang was grilled excellently with charred fatty bits. Add sticky rice and it is perfect. Moo ping has a strong coconut flavor that makes it really stand out from typical bbq pork skewers Crab fried rice is a staple with generous amounts of crab and large overall serving size as well. Me and my friend loved it - would definitely recommend and come back again!

My husband and I went to Mae-Khong Thai on Friday, for an early dinner date night. It wasn't packed but busier than I had expected. We grabbed a seat and our server came by to grab our drink and order shortly after. To drink, I got the Thai tea and for an appetizer we got the Traditional Set which came with fried chicken & sticky rice and papaya salad. Thai tea was good, pretty strong and also sweet as expected. Appetizer items were good; the papaya salad was light & refreshing, although I think it may have had some fish sauce or something else in the dressing which wasn't my favorite flavor. The fried chicken was the best thing we had there, it was light and crispy and seasoned well, making it flavorful. Unfortunately, things went a little downhill from there. My husband had ordered the Tom Zaap soup, which he said had a very strong bone-y flavor, probably makes sense with the pork spare rib cartilage. He wasn't able to eat much of it. I had gotten the Pad See Eiw with vegetables & tofu, which is one of my frequently ordered dishes at Thai restaurants. Unfortunately, this one had a weird taste, I'm not sure I can place my finger on it but it was either their sauce or something else. Very odd. Since the first dish we had gotten was good, it may just have been our selections that weren't great for our meals. Overall though, given there are some of other Thai spots I enjoy more, I'm not sure if I'll return.

The most delicious and beautiful display of Thai food I have had here in AZ. It's a quaint little place next to the movie theater and I highly recommend it. We will definitely be back.

Omg omg omg this place is seriously SO SO GOOD. Am I exaggerating? No. Just go and you'll see. We popped in for an early dinner and the place was packed. Lots of people know what's up. My go-to Thai order is yellow curry and when I tell you this was one of the best ones I've ever had, I'm not lying. My sister got the Panang curry and swears by that one too, if that's more your vibe. Pad Thai is a staple as well and they do it right. Our service was perfect even though the place was packed. Friendly, fast, accurate, and attentive - what more could you ask for?! Honestly, if you're looking for a great meal come check this spot out. You won't be disappointed, I promise!

Mae Khong has been a place I wanted to try out and I feel like I've been blowing it by not being here earlier! Mae Khong is a smaller restaurant that specializes in Thai street food plus has a good menu of full Thai dishes. They also have a great menu for drinks at the bar. It's right around the corner from AMC theater so it's a great spot to get a bite and a drink before or after a movie. The great part of Mae Khong is they have a full menu of Tapas or smaller eats to enjoy alot of various dishes. We tried four different dishes which are all great. We got the Tom Yum Going soup which is a Shrimp hot and sour lemongrass soup that's a very shareable size that has a great flavor all around. Kind of a more seafoody like broth but has that good sour lemongrass flavor that made it very enjoyable We got the Kanoom Jeeb dumplings that were very tasty and great to dip in black vinegar soy sauce. They have a great blend of shrimp and pork with a handmade feel to them that I enjoyed. The hard part of them is I wanted to eat way more of them! They were so good We also had the Ghai Todd or Fried Chicken that I felt is a must order anytime your there. It's fried chicken thighs that have such a great crisp with a slight curry taste in the batter. I would of hoped for a heavier curry taste but it really is a great tasting fried chicken regardless Our fourth dish we got is the Khao Ji or Coconut sticky rice. If you like Sticky rice, this is an awesome dish to have a tasty dessert at the end. It's got that great sticky rice taste with a slight coconut flavor with a slight pan fried outside to it. Very tasty dish! All in all, Mae Khong service is great, the environment is very inviting and the food is excellent. Also the main dishes there look and smell great so I for sure will come back to try out more of the menu

This was a good day! Walked into Mae-Khong Thai Tapas & Bar, a very unpretentious location tucked away in the corner of a big plaza. But when you deliver on quality and service, people will find you. The spring rolls were excellent--perfectly crisp and filled just right with fresh vegetables. The Panang curry had spot-on flavors that had us consistently boasting about its deliciousness. The medium heat was sooo good. The fried chicken was a nice try, but now that my fried chicken craving is satisfied, I'll be back to try something else. Our server, "Mook," was so kind and pleasant. Her attitude, demeanor, and level of service were commendable and truly rounded off this experience to a 5-star review.

We came here on a Wednesday because we were craving Thai. We were visiting from out of town and staying in Scottsdale but we decided to drive to Mesa for more authentic Thai. I am glad we did. We ordered the Tom Kah Ghai (Chicken), Spicy Pad Thai (Chef Special with Shrimp), and Basil Fried Rice. Everything was great. If you like traditional Pad Thai, you might stick to the traditional Pad Thai since the flavors are slightly different. The atmosphere is casual and it is located in a strip mall. We had great service with by Thomas. The food was delicious. We will definitely come back.

I had been craving Thai food and decided to try this place out. I'm so glad I did. It is one of the best Thai restaurants I have been too. Not only is the food amazing but the service is top notch. The servers checked on us frequently and were so friendly. Since this was my first time here I wanted to be safe and ordered the classic pad Thai with chicken. It was amazing! We also wanted to try something new and different and ordered the sautéed Thai basil and it was beyond good. I'm still thinking about how flavorful and tender the beef was. The restaurant also has a full bar. We ordered some Thai beer since we never had any. We ordered both on the menu and both were good but my favorite was Chang beer. I definitely have found my go-to Thai restaurant. If you have not tried this place you have to. I will definitely be back.

By far the best Thai I've had, and I've tried so many places around the valley... The spicing is intricate, authentic, and complex. Service is friendly and helpful. Great drinks too! We will definitely be back!!!

Tasty spot! I've seen this on social media and had it saved for over a year oops. My friend and I arrived a few minutes after they opened and were warmly welcomed by a waitress. We absent-mindedly had a yap sesh before consulting the menu and ordering with our patient waitress. We split the pad kee mao (drunken noodles) with pork @ spice level 4, and ghai thor (fried chicken). After our food arrived, the waitress gave us a rundown of the spice/toppings rack - extra salt, heat, or acid to add to our dishes. The drunken noodles were very tasty, and I ended up adding a bit more heat from the spice rack. The fried chicken was absolutely delectable. The chicken had a wet batter coating similar to fish and chips (the fish obviously) - a thin, well-seasoned crackly coat around a juicy piece of chicken thigh. We finished with coconut ice cream with warm sticky rice which wasn't too sizeable, but the right amount to not feel overstuffed. Was hoping for mango sticky rice, but alas, mango is not in season. Overall, nice spot for tasty Thai!

I ordered this on DoorDash. I don't know what the dishes is, but it definitely did not taste like pad Thai. Was very disappointed, especially because Thai food is my favorite and I was told that that is the best pad Thai in Mesa. When I called the restaurant and let them the service was nice. I don't know. Maybe I will give it a try again one day but for now I'm just super disappointed

Mae-Khong Thai Tapas & Bar in Mesa, AZ, is where Thai cuisine meets the tapas trend and leaves you wondering if the portions shrank in the Arizona heat. Tucked into a strip mall like a culinary Easter egg, this spot boasts a vibe that's equal parts cozy and quirky--think bamboo accents and a bar that whispers, "Stay for one more mango martini." The Tom Yum Goong was a sour-spicy revelation, shrimp swimming in a broth so good I nearly licked the bowl, while the Massaman Curry offered a peanutty hug--though the meat was so sparse, I half-expected it to be billed as a garnish. Service is warm, the flavors punch above their weight, but the tapas-sized plates mean you'll either master portion control or hit up a taco truck on the way home. It's Thai with a twist, a Mesa must-try--just don't expect to leave stuffed unless you order the whole menu.

The environment just feels good. Our waitress was awesome, attentive, friendly, and kept everything flowing without hovering. That kind of service makes all the difference and she nailed it. Now the food. Let me start with the real star of the show, the Cheesy Mashed Potato Balls. Golden, perfectly crispy panko crust on the outside, and when you bite in? Creamy mashed potato loaded with gooey melted cheese that literally stretches. Paired with that smooth cheese dipping sauce, these are dangerously addictive. I'd order a double next time without hesitation. The wings were incredible, and yes, I taste tested both the Garlic Parmesan AND the BBQ. The Garlic Parm had that rich, savory coating with a beautiful caramelized char. The BBQ brought a sweet, smoky glaze that had me licking my fingers. Both were meaty, juicy, and fall-off-the-bone tender. Honestly couldn't pick a favorite, you need both. I also grabbed a burger on a pretzel bun with bacon and sweet potato fries, stacked high, messy in the best way, and the pretzel bun held up like a champ. The Hub has that classic neighborhood grill vibe with quality that punches above its weight. Delicious food, generous portions, great service, and a relaxing spot to kick back. There are some things I really love about The White Rabbit and some that I didn't. Ambiance (3/5): When I think of a speakeasy, I think intimate. The White Rabbit is not that. It's pretty large for a speakeasy with a large bar and a good number of tables/booths. They weren't at capacity while I was there, but there were a good number of people there. Which made it pretty loud. To the point where you have to yell at your bartender when ordering your drink so they can hear you. Perhaps a much different experience on a week day. Getting in the speakeasy was both a hit and a miss. If you're subscribed to their email list, as I am, you get a different password every month. I was excited about this. Upon approaching The White Rabbit, I saw a sign naming the establishment and pointing me in the right direction. This takes away from the spirit of speakeasies which are supposed to be truly hidden without any signage identifying the restaurant. You'll see a velvet rope blocking a stairwell where you tell one of the bouncers the password. I had a reservation. If you don't know the password, as another party there didn't, they ask you to access a QR code to find out or ask others who are waiting. I appreciated the dedication to the cause. Once you get in, you walk down the stairwell, and then enter a cool hallway decked out with Prohibition-style decor. That leads you into the main room. The main room is also Prohibition-style though a bit unremarkable. The bathrooms are clean and also feature some cool paintings (and they also hide that they are actual bathrooms). With that being said, when I liked the hallway and the bathrooms better than the bar itself, that's a bit of an issue. Seats at the bar are bar stools without back support. Never fun for my old man back. I did, on the other hand, appreciate that they have free WiFi. Service (3.5/5): The service was generally pretty good, though a bit slow. They start you off with some water without asking you which is always a nice touch. It was just one of those situations where you have to put some effort into getting a bartender's attention on several occasions. Food (N/A): I had dinner prior so no food for me. I did check out the menu. They have a small selection of appetizers, flatbreads, and desserts. Drinks (3/5): When I'm at a speakeasy, I'm looking for creativity and an interesting blend of ingredients and flavors. While The White Rabbit has a good number of cocktails, many of them didn't attract me. Part of it is a matter of personal preference. There were only two drinks out of about 20 that I was interested in. Overall, I wanted a little more, but with that being said, the drinks were reasonably priced for a speakeasy. Not a bad speakeasy by any means, I have super high standards when it comes to these watering holes. Just not in my top five when it comes to speakeasies in Phoenix and surrounding areas.

I was out running errands on a Wednesday night and was in the mood for a good cheesesteak. Decided…read moreto pull out my phone. and instead of using Yelp, I actually just punched cheesesteak into Waze, and what do you know?! I ended up finding the cheesesteak joint. This is actually a food truck, which is parked on the side of the Tipsy Catcus, which is a really cool brewery I also checked out while I was waiting for my order. This is a really chill brewery, and not a huge spot. Maybe 8 to 10 high top tables with bar seating, and a mostly open floor plan. They have a small patio too, with what looks like about another tables but because I visited at night, nobody was outside. They also seem to be extremely dog friendly as they had one table with a really chill cocker spaniel completely laid out on his side in the middle of the floor. I'm not sure how many taps they had in total, but definitely more than 40 I would say. I'm not a big beer drinker, so I ordered a cider. The cider I was served was on tap and really tasty. And it definitely hit the spot of terms of price point. One thing to note, while I was talking to the owner/manager of the tipsy cactus (shout to him because he was really cool), he told me that Friday night and Saturday nights are usually popping so I wouldn't expect to be first in line on any of those nights. It also looks like they rotate food trucks on different nights, so don't assume that the cheesesteak truck is going to be here every night. I would check the tipsy cactus website, or Instagram page to be sure. I'll definitely be looking forward to checking this place out again in the future, especially if I'm hitting one of the food trucks parked outside.
