Portion sizes are insultingly small. I ordered Pad soon Sen which is a noodle dish. There were less than 4 bites of noodles and the rest of the dish was undercooked veggies. I didn't go to the restaurant to eat uncooked veggies and about 3oz of meat. I came out for carbs and protein, which they skimp out on. The worst part is the price. The basic dish of noodles is 19.50 for pork or beef. Are. You. Serious!? Totally a rip off! This same plate of food costs $9 just a few years ago. There's no way they needed to double their prices. Received a coupon in the mail $15 for $30 worth of food. We were just planning on leaving to go to the restaurant and check out a place that has good Asian food when I read the small print. The coupon said you had to scan this QR code When I scanned it it said all sold out. Apparently had to buy a voucher from clip.com and even though I just got the coupon in the mail, the deal wasn't available. I called the restaurant and they said they wouldn't honot the deal. I've never received a coupon from a restaurant that played games like this so I won't even try them the first time even though the menu looked very good and we're always looking for Good Thai or Vietnamese food. read more

I came here with my wife and daughter. Note: the hours on the door are listed, 11-9. The hours on the website show they close between 3:30 & 4:30 which they do. We got there at 4:30. The decor is quite unremarkable except for the fountain in the middle of the restaurant. They have a TV displaying pictures of their menu items There was no background music. We started off with a couple appetizers. Fresh rolls and crab won tons The fresh rolls are spring rolls filled with crispy shrimp, lettuce, herbs, bean sorouts, shredded carrot, and rice noodles, wrapped in thin rice paper and served with peanut sauce. The crab won tons are fried puffs filled with a crab cream cheese filling served with sweet and sour sauce. The fresh rolls were nicely crafted and made with fresh ingredients. I didn't care to use the peanut sauce, but used a little soy sauce instead. The crab won tons were fried to a crispy golden brown. The filling was creamy and flavorable. I chose the PAD PIK SOD for the main course. This is a stir fry made with yellow onions, sliced jalapeños. green onions, bell peppers, fresh mushrooms, in a garlic chili sauce. You can choose a meat option for an extra cost. I chose pork. You can choose the spice level from 1 to 5. I went with a 4. It comes with a cup of rice. The vegetables were cooked perfectly. And the spice added pizzazz to the dish. There was just enough broth to flavor the rice. I already have next 3 dishes picked out for when I return. read more

This place is right down the road from us and we have driven by it umpteen bazillion times so why not check it out? My Step daughter was visiting from out of state and loves Thai food so my husband and I took her there for dinner. We arrived shortly before 4:30 and they were closed....odd because their website said they were open. Apparently they close between 3:30 and 4:30. No biggie, we waited. There is ample seating , light music playing and a fountain with plants in the middle of the restaurant. After we were seated we ordered Teo appetizers. The fresh rolls and the crab wontons. The fresh rolls were stuffed with crisp veggies, shrimp and served with a side of peanut sauce. The crab wonton were crispy and delicious. I ordered the orange chicken with broccoli which came with a side of white rice. The chicken was hot and crispy. The orange sauce was sweet, tangy and complemented the chicken nicely. Let's see.. Where do I begin. I came here long time ago and have not returned due to horrible service. Could not remember if it was any good so I thought I give it another chance. Extra side of rice $3.50 (which I found out after I got the bill). Fresh roll was OK. Dipping sauce was blend with some fish flavor. Then to the main dishes... Well I was surprised to see both dishes came in a plastic disposable bowl. Since when does pad Thai get served in a bowl. Pad Thai not the worst not the best. Little on the too sweet side and very runny sauce. Then Kao Soi, yellow curry with egg noodle and chicken. I ordered Thai hot... Well there was no spice to it what so ever.. I had to ask the server if I ordered Thai hot.. Curry flavor was very mild and could barely taste it.. I like my food hot temperature wise... But not hot to the point of almost spitting my food out hot. Over all the food was blend and way over priced for the amount and quality of food you get. I'm typically a fan of Thai food, this place was decent. Not the best ever, certainly not the worst. I had pad thai with chicken satay as the appetizer, neither was mind blowing. The pad thai was a bit strange and atypical. The sauce was not your standard peanut-based variety, but a very odd and horribly sweet sauce I wasn't able to figure out. Maybe tamarind based? Regardless, very strange and NOT for pad thai. The chicken (both in the pad thai and the satay) was not great. Pretty dry and chewy. It's not the worst, but I'm picking on it a bit because it should be much better at a price point of nearly $20 per plate. The server was friendly and prompt. The atmosphere is a little strange as well. It's not particularly well-dressed inside, and there was loud Christian bible music playing the whole time. A very odd choice for a Thai restaurant. Food wise the crab wontons didn't have much flavor but were great when the dip was added. The yellow curry is where the place shines. We absolutely love 5 R Cha! The pad thai is phenomenal! The employees are all super sweet and it has a cute little vibe. The only complaint is that their fountain sodas are not very good. Of course take out isn't always the best representation of the quality of a restaurants food IMHO, so I may try to dine in the next time. Their potstickers were just ok, but again, I tried them after driving home for 10 minutes so they obviously weren't crunchy after having been steamed in the little to go box. The Panang Curry was not the best either, too many big onions in the curry, I've never seen this many onions, sliced so large, in any curry dish. We ordered Thai iced tea and got tea... with cow milk not sweet at all!? The fresh roll had zero taste (unless you like the taste of school salad) with runny peanut sauce?! What?! I called, had to ask for the manager because the same lady could not communicate. Ultimately the option was to refund because they have no driver to resend. Fine. Now I dig in and WOW, almost no beef. If it's a $3 upcharged from chicken, there should be some decent meat in this, Nope. Finally they included a post card about their upcoming move...to a not so nicer place citing the landlord is forcing them out and not renewing their lease...wonder why, but a great business things to put on a card. Doubt I'll order again, I can make better. And the $2.50 for a veggie spring roll?? they are like $0.50 from costco and airfry right up. Decent Thai food but pretty pricey. Coming from the Bay Area where Thai food is usually really good, I knew Arizona would be a bit of a letdown. This place has decent Thai food. We ordered pickup and my family got a number of different noodle dishes (Pad Z U as they called it and Pad Thai). We ordered both shrimp, chicken and crispy tofu as our proteins between the five of us. The crispy tofu was the star of the show. So delicious! I ordered mild-medium for spice and it was pretty spicy - I'd go back and order a mild for the next time. The Pad Thai was tasty and had a good amount of sauce. The Pad Z U had thicker noodles and was kind of dough-y tasting. Less flavor. My brother who ordered the chicken mentioned it was pretty dry. Compared to other Thai places in Arizona - not bad at all! But it came out to about $20/person after tax and tip and that's just a lot to pay for something that wasn't *the best* we'd had. read more

We have been dining at this establishment on and off for several years and we absolutely understood the menu prices being adjusted during the plandemic, however during our most recent visit we were shocked at the cost of two orders of soup and a Thai Iced Tea. Typically we expect the cost to be a little high, maybe around $30 for everything, but this time around it was well over $40. When we examined the receipt we seen that they added a 2.99% service charge for labor. Being in the restaurant business for years I definitely understand cost adjustment especially during inflationary times, however this restaurant has already raised the price several times in the past 4 years and now is passing along more labor costs to its patron's. I can't see myself ever coming back, not because of the quality of food which is decent with the exception that my wonton noodle soup only had one won ton in it, but because of how ridiculously expensive they have become. I would rather drive a little further away to get some wonton soup at a more reasonable price than to pay nearly $50 for a couple of containers of soup and an iced tea. read more

Appetized on pot stickers and crab ragoons, wish there was more than 4 per order. My TOM YUM soup was the bomb with Fresh mushroom, chicken, fresh lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, coconut milk flavored broth. brother had Garlic vegetables with chicken, other bro had crispy tofu with vegetables, eggplant and beef. Had to have Thai iced tea of course. We were all so happy and stuffed after our meal. Finished off with a black sticky rice with coconut ice cream (Passed on the mangos). Very good service and food. I came here with my dad and stepmom on a Saturday night. We got there slightly before opening, but they let us come in and wait. We had ordered the shrimp summer rolls and crab wontons. Both were very good, tho I think the wontons were the better of the two. For my entree I had ordered the panang curry which was served with white rice, and I had chicken as the protein. The flavor of the curry was very good. I had chosen mild spice, and was happy with the amount of spice in it. The only downside is the curry was not as thick as I'm used to, but it's ok because the rice helps with that. read more

Unfortunately I will never be going back to this place. The food was pretty bad... Actually it was terrible. I had a hard time trying to eat a few bites before pretending to be full. And I politely asked for a leftover box for the remaining food so I could save them face and throw it in the trash later. Then I got the bill and noticed several issues. There was an Open Food fee, whatever that is. Then there was a payment fee, before I even gave them any payment at all, so they are preemptively charging you what they would pay if you use your card. And to top it all off, they charged me an extra $4 over their listed price on a main dish. They also added tofu to the dish that I didn't ask for it in. So they charged me about $8 extra for two people sharing a main dish. I can't believe there are customers that let them get away with this repeatedly. Never ever going back. Would ask bank to refund my money but I feel bad for them. At least the fountain in the main area is pretty. read more

3 years ago, when I moved to Mesa, 5 R Cha was one of the very first restaurants I tried in the East Mesa area. I had lunch there with my mom and husband. I remember ordering a Pad Thai and I thought it was just good. My mom and husband both thought the food was just ok back then and the prices were a little too high for us to return so we didn't for about 2 years. About a week ago or so, we received a coupons magazine by mail and 5 R Cha had 3 coupons on there. We thought, why don't we give this place a second try since it's been a while? Well, I'm glad we did! This time I ordered the yellow curry, chicken and my husband ordered the beef Pad Si ew. We also ordered the crispy chicken portstickers for appetizers. Everything tasted great! The portions were pretty big. The rice was a little less than what I would normally expect with such a big bowl of curry however, they offered me extra rice when I was about half done with my little bowl. The flavors were on point. The service was very good. The place is clean and well organized. They have a patio seating which is very well lit at night. We got there very late, about 35 min before close but they still were courteous and served us well and the food was good. We enjoyed our food this time that we decided to return again on Friday. We ordered the same exact meals but this time we arrived at 7:30pm! Without the coupons, the prices would have been slightly high however just to be fair to them, their prices are pretty similar to a lot of good Thai places out there, even in the East Mesa area. My wife and I stopped by to check it out on a Sunday afternoon. We were greeted by a lovely young lady who was very friendly and helpful. She was always smiling. My wife had a ginger dish as well as the fresh rolls which she really liked. I had the 5R Cha fried rice w/pork. It was very good, lots of flavor(which for fried rice isn't always the case) and cooked perfectly! I ordered it as a "5" on their spice scale, 5 being very spicy. Most people would be fine with 2 or 3, I could have had a 10, but I really like hot and spicy. I wish they had a larger beer selection but, that's my only knock. It is a bit pricey but, it was so much food, my wife and I both had the leftovers today for lunch so, I think it's well worth the price. We now have another go to spot. read more

I've eaten at 5 R Cha many times. I like their food, and I like that they give a small discount for paying with cash. I got takeout reasonably often during COVID. Went again recently and discovered that they'd shrunk their menus and removed a couple of my favorite entrees. I totally get that restaurateurs get to play whatever music they like in their restaurants, but I think they should consider their patrons' comfort. During my most recent visit on some random Tuesday, the whole time I was there, they played super insipid Christian soft rock. And nothing with some gravitas and history--no Bach, for instance--just bad pop music about worshiping God. And not even a variety, just the same terrible album the whole time. This might be a reason for other people to patronize this restaurant, but for me, it's a reason I won't be back. read more
