Great spot for some Asian fusion! I actually tried this place because of the Too Good to Go app -- the bowl I picked up was huge and filled with lots of great food! Crispy chicken, sweet and sour eggplant, rice, spicy mashed potatoes, edamame, shredded carrot, mushrooms, pineapple, cabbage, corn, cucumber and radish, and some type of sesame seed sauce on top. Everything was quite tasty but my favorite was the sweet and sour eggplant! It is a little difficult to access this place (I made the mistake of swinging by on a Saturday night) but I would say it's worth checking out regardless. There are tables outside to sit and eat at. I also saw they offer other items such as milk tea -- I will be back to try it!

    Super cute wall decor!

In the neighborhood helping my sister move the rest of her stuff, and when she asked me what I wanted to eat as a thank you for helping, this was the first and only place that came to mind! Been craving this place since the first time we happened upon it by happy accident (details below). We got our own make your own bowls this time. The portions are so generous that even after we stuffed our faces full, there was plenty leftover (yay!). Harry, Issac and the rest of the staff here are so friendly, patient and helpful! Definitely a must for me whenever I'm in town! I only wish we had something like this back in SGV! First discovered this yummy place through the Too Good To Go app/project, and am so thankful and grateful! The store is super cute, and the service is top notch (thanks Isaac)! Love the Asian flavors in all the protein and veggie options, which had this really fresh, healthy spin that just makes their bowls that much better! Their house cheesecakes (got both the matcha and lime) are light, fluffy and full of flavor! Highly, highly recommend!

This is a review for the RICEMILL at the arrowhead mall. We attended the grand opening last Saturday after previously enjoying the downtown location. There was a large crowd with some nice give aways. As for the food it was very good as expected. We did the build your own bowls and despite the long line, the team got our order out quick. Food was hot, fresh and tasty. The biggest selling point besides taste is the large size of the bowls. One full build your own bowl can easily feed two people. Don't hesitate to try either of their Phoenix locations because you will not be disappointed. "FIMP" Food is my Passion

Eggplant is so good here - look at how big that bowl is

I was here about a month ago for a Yelp Elite event and loved the food, so today, while I was in the area, I picked up another bowl to have for dinner. And being that May is Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander month, seems almost apt to support Asian businesses. The place had one other customer ordering before me and then it was my turn. I absolutely love the eggplant they make here so I started with my base of white rice and then asked for the eggplant. The lady behind the counter was confused as that wasn't considered a protein but we talked it thru and she said I would just have to charge you as if it was a tofu bowl and I said sure ok. She, then piled on the eggplant (generous portion) and then I had a choice of a few more sides so opted for the cauliflower, enough mushrooms and zucchini. I then also had corn, edamame added and some pickled veggies. Added a little bit of scallion sauce and then topped it off with some crispy shallots. The bowl was about $12 and it's big enough for 2 portions! And every bite was delicious! They were also giving away free dessert, so I had one of the chocolate puddings! I also love their fountain milk tea here as it's not too sweet and about $3. Overall, with tax and tips, my meal came to under $20! I definitely like this place and the food is fresh and good. I do hope they can keep their doors open as they may depend on foot traffic and maybe when there are games and conferences in town. Parking can be a hassle in this area. Give this place a try, your tastebuds and your piggy bank won't regret it!

I love coming here! They have awesome side choices to add into your bowls like smashed pumpkin, bbq cauliflower and spicy mashed potato!! I always do the BYOB, since I love all the toppings and this time I did half greens/brown rice, umami roast chicken with all of the above toppings and all of the cold toppings! DELICIOUS! I also ordered their house made milk tea which is a delicious treat! My husband ordered the Szechuan Mala steak bowl and really liked it. The lobby is bright and large, with lots of places to sit. There isn't convenient parking, so you'll have to figure that out. But it's definitely worth checking out! The people working are always very nice and helpful!

Pro-tip: Parking can be tricky since it's a lot of of paid street parking and garage parking since it's in the middle of downtown. Highlights: Think chipotle, but make it Asian, light, healthier and refreshing. Absolutely loving this concept and would highly encourage people to try this place! I love their variety of base, proteins, sides, and sauces. I got a half noodle and half rice bowl with half steak and half shrimp and it was delicious! The milk tea is simply a must get. I traveled to Asia a lot and easily this milk, tea rivals so many of the ones I've had because of its strong tea flavor and it's not too sweet. Also, the interior is super cute and they even have some patio seating as well. Lowlights: I wish it was in a different location because I don't frequent downtown! It's a little pricey, but they really loaded up so you could even have some leftovers!

Went here for Yelp Elite event and it was quick, & overall a nice experience with the brand new location opening of RICEMILL. Overall, I recommend this place if you need a healthy bowl. It may not be the best-tasting bowl ever, but not a bad choice for good food. walk-in Here are my takes: Food/Drinks: Got a chicken bowl with half and half chicken meat options. They were out of noodles, so I took rice as the base. Overall tastes good, fresh, and healthy.  The rice pudding (chocolate) one was not my favorite. In drinks, I took watermelon, strawberry lemonade that was not very sweet like in other places, but it was sweet enough for me not to finish it. Service: It's a Chipotle-type walk in line and build bowl model, so it was pretty quick. The staff was not slow, and they were serving the line pretty quickly. Hygiene: This is a brand new location, so everything felt new. The restaurant itself is a modern design interior, very bright, and feels very spacious with plenty of seating. Price: Reasonably priced for the quality of food and the bowl size I would not go here every day, but wouldn't mind being here for a healthy option of lunch option since it is right next to my office in downtown.

The shrimp and steak looked amazing but I had to try the crispy chicken
    Sarah A.

I walked here and feel like this is a restaurant downtown Phoenix needs. It's a healthier option to a quick bite AND you get way more than other similar concepts like chipotle. I love that they have proteins from steak, shrimp and even the popular original crispy chicken. I will say, the crispy chicken wasn't crispy but it was a very juicy chicken filled with flavor. I ordered the original Hong Kong crispy chicken bowl which came with a bed of rice, the crispy chicken, (I added in some thin sliced zucchini and cauliflower), it also came with carrots, edamame, cabbage, corn and we topped it off with a signature sauce. Girl.... I thought I was going to take some home and I devoured this bowl! HAHA! I also tried the OG Lemonade and added a bit of the strawberry lemonade to it. So refreshing!! The milk tea looked popular because it was almost out when I got there. I went back to try the vanilla rice pudding and wtf, I need this every night I crave a late night snack. So good, very thick and creamy texture. Loved it! They also played some popular kpop songs here and overall i recommend checking this place out!! PS- did you know they cater?

I've ordered DoorDash from here many times and it's always hot and delicious. Decided to visit the store while in the area excited for something yummy and familiar, but it was really not that good. We went for Saturday lunch and the store was completely empty, there was a fly flying around and all the food is uncovered. I got my usual popcorn chicken protein, and it tasted like it was cooked hours ago and was super hard. Overall all the food was stale and did not taste fresh. One thing I will say is that their portions are always really good, they loaded up my bowl. I'll probably keep ordering DoorDash but won't visit the store again.

    Anthony H.

Food: 4/5 we had the rice bowl with pork it tasted amazing! Service: 5/5 the owner was so nice to me and my fiancée she even let our little k9 Douglas in really made our experience that much better Ambiance: 5/5 let me tell you if you're in the area late night bar hopping this is perfect drinking food outside tables and inside clean and spacious

Build your own bowl with Korean fried chicken
    Denise M.

We needed a place to grab lunch near the convention center and this place was close. You just go down the line and see what you want in your bowl kind of Subway style. There's a lot of Korean choices and while there isn't a lot on the actual line to choose what they do have is really delicious. My son got some kind of Korean garlic chicken bowl, and I made my own bowl with crispy fried chicken, brown rice, zucchini, carrots, and a really delicious caramelized scallion sauce. The choices are limited, but the food is good and the price was okay, from about $11 to $15. They have Pepsi products and not Coke, and that didn't make me happy, but I'm sure it'll make some people happy.

    Nicole R.

I ordered DoorDash from Ricemill and got an incredible bowl!! I did the make your own bowl with a noodle and green base, umami roast chicken for my protein, and tons of toppings! The sweet and sour eggplant in particular is delicious!! Everything is so flavorful and the portion is good for the price. I haven't gone into the restaurant in person yet since I hate dealing with downtown parking, but I would like to eventually. They also have rice pudding and milk tea that I'll have to try another time.

The Hong Kong Crispy Chicken and added zucchini to it
    Adriana R.

The place itself is super open and clean and service is friendly. It's in downtown near the convention center and other restaurants but little tucked away next to Taco Bell cantina. We ordered the Hong Kong crispy chicken bowl. Size of the bowl is decent but heavy on the base which is rice, noodles or greens. The sauce itself was delicious but the "crispy" chicken wasn't crispy at all. I was expecting a little bit of a crunch, however the meat itself was juicy. I would come back again and maybe try their steak instead.

I used to come here specifically for the Ramen, but the Ramen has never been the same after a bit before Covid had hit and they decided to change the recipe and everything about it and it's just like mid now, but I've recently discovered how good their noodles are. This is probably some of the best chow mein I've had and that's mostly what's carrying this review. I literally am only putting it at three stars because I am still upset about the Ramen situation and how it used to be really good and I can't factor that out of my review lol but what I usually get here is the hot chicken bao bun and it's pretty freaking good pretty spicy too. I'm like white girl level zero when it comes to spices and I think it's pretty spicy but it's super flavorful. The pickles they put into it are really good. I think they like saturate them in something and like I said before the chow mein noodles are just super good. They're not dry and they're pretty flavorful it's great. When we walked in it had a very fishy smell, so it kind of made us second guess our choice. But we went for it anyhow. The greeter/server was very pleasant and sat us. It was very clean inside with ample space between seat. We browsed through the menu and started with our usual edamame and pot stickers. The edamame was salted well throughout where a lot of places just put the salt on top only. We ordered a couple varieties of sake which were both good. Out of all of the things we ordered the karange skewer was just a little more oily than were use to, but still good. The spicy salmon roll had really great flavor and the lollipop roll was probably one of the better versions that we have had. The musubi was giant to say the least, it was good, but offered a bit too much rice. Overall the food and service was great and we were very happy that we ended up here!

We were nearby for a show, and decided to stop in on a Wednesday evening for a late dinner with some friends. They have a good happy hour menu, and my friends ordered off there, but I was craving sushi so I got the nigiri omakase. It came with miso soup, which I enjoyed, definitely hard to go wrong there. The sushi itself was decent, nothing crazy, but definitely better than grocery store quality. The tuna and salmon pieces were a little fishy, maybe not the freshest, but it was also quite late (~10pm) so I wasn't expecting too much. Beautifully presented, and the cuts were quite large which was nice! The food came out pretty fast, and the service was pleasant. The restaurant vibes are pretty dark, and moody. The bathroom was kind of scary personally, super dark and a little messy, so I decided to wait till I got home. Overall, a solid experience, and definitely a good choice if I am in the area.

SumoMaya Updated Yelp Review: 2.0/5…read more This one pains me to write. The last time I dined at SumoMaya was about 10 years ago and at that time I gave it a 5/5-star experience. I remembered it as a vibrant, trendy, elevated dining destination with great food and a fun atmosphere. So when I decided to bring my mom (who had never been) to try their Arizona Restaurant Week menu, I was genuinely excited. Unfortunately... much has changed. Let me start with the positives because there were a few. The inside ambiance is still fantastic. SumoMaya absolutely nails the vibe. Modern, sexy, upscale energy with a lively crowd, gorgeous interior design, and a house DJ spinning deep house that honestly may have been the highlight of the night. If you're looking for a place to grab cocktails, enjoy music, and soak in a cool atmosphere? Sure. For that alone, they still have something going for them. Also, our server was excellent -- friendly, attentive, and professional. Now...the food. We arrived around 7:30 PM and didn't leave until roughly 9:30 PM, which felt excessive considering we were doing a fixed Restaurant Week menu. While our server was great, the kitchen/food pacing was painfully slow. The Breakdown: Maya Roll - 4/5 The clear winner of the night. Fresh, flavorful, well-balanced, and honestly the only dish that reminded me why SumoMaya used to have the reputation it did. Pad Thai Pork "Al Pastor" - 1/5 This was rough. The noodles were noticeably overcooked, the flavor was bland, and overall it felt confused conceptually and poorly executed. Definitely not a dish I'd ever order again. Chilean Sea Bass w/ Miso Glaze - complicated . This dish deserves its own courtroom trial. The first sea bass plates came out undercooked to the point where the fish practically looked ready to swim away. Let's be clear: Chilean sea bass is not sushi. Serving undercooked fish in this context is not just disappointing -- it's a legitimate food safety concern. That initial version? 0/10. Once corrected, the bigger issue became the miso glaze, which was aggressively overpowering. To the point where both my mom and I felt a bit queasy after a few bites. Without lime? 1/5. With lime squeezed over it to cut through the miso overload? 3/5. Even then, it was just... mediocre. I've had far better Chilean sea bass elsewhere -- buttery, delicate, flaky perfection. This wasn't that. Given the glowing reviews I had read about this dish, this was one of the bigger disappointments of the night. Mexican Street Corn - 0/5 As a side, we were served the Mexican Street Corn, and unfortunately this was another major miss. I love Mexican street corn and have ordered it at countless restaurants throughout Arizona, so I was excited to try SumoMaya's version. Sadly, this wasn't even remotely close to what I'd expect from authentic or well-executed street corn. My mom, who is a chef, immediately commented that it tasted like canned corn, and honestly, I had to agree. There was very little of the bold flavor profile that makes Mexican street corn so addictive. The cotija, lime, spice, and cream elements that should make the dish pop were either absent or completely overwhelmed by the watery dish itself. 0/5 stars. In fact, this may have been the worst Mexican street corn I've ever had at a restaurant. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, especially considering how many excellent versions of this dish can be found throughout the Valley. Bread Pudding - 0/5 I don't say this lightly: possibly the worst bread pudding I've ever had. Dry. Hard. Portions of the bread tasted borderline burnt. Instead of warm, decadent comfort-food dessert vibes, it felt like chewing on a stale kitchen experiment gone wrong. Final Verdict: This is where it gets tough. If we hadn't been dining on the Restaurant Week prix fixe, I honestly would have felt severely swindled, because the standard menu pricing here is not cheap -- and based on the quality of what came out of the kitchen, I simply don't see the value. The only reason this review gets 2 stars instead of 1 is because: Great ambiance Awesome house music / deep house DJ Excellent server One good sushi roll But based purely on food quality? This was deeply disappointing. I genuinely hate saying this because I remembered SumoMaya so fondly, but I will be shocked if this restaurant maintains longevity if this is the level of food consistently leaving the kitchen. Would I come back? Maybe for drinks, ambiance, and the music. Definitely not for dinner.

We decided on sweet sour chicken and chicken lo mein. Service was quick and the amount of food was generous. The sweet sour chicken was made very well. The batter was light, airy and not at all greasy. The lo mein was greasy and still tasty. I would have preferred it to be drier. The chef used cabbage as the vegetable. I would have preferred an assortment of veggies, but that's just personal. 3 for the lo mein and 4 for the sweet sour chicken. I would actually give this place 3.5 stars. All staff needed to do is smile once in awhile. Shared parking outside.

Was mostly empty this Saturday, one amblivant waitress. Later three other came to get seated, service is slow! How's the food? Actually pretty good for Az. Chicken feet of the frozen kink reheated were four stars, house noodles was as well as Mango shaved ice five stars, not Taiwan good but good for phoenix. Wonder when and if the TSMC crowd will give it a go, the Chinese place down on Happy Valley is hopping with them, should this place.

The appetizer was amazing, we each got the crispy rice and I love that each one was a different fish and slightly different flavor. I don't remember which roll we got, I think it was the blue dragon one, but that was delicious, good amount of rice and fish and great flavor. The truffle rib pasta was good as well, the short ribs were cooked perfectly and the flavor on that was insane. I do wish that they would've tossed the pasta in the same sauce the rib came in before adding it to the red pasta sauce. The pasta sauce itself lacked flavor and just tasted like blended down tomatoes. If the pasta had a scoop of the rib sauce too, that would be absolutely insane!! For dessert we didn't have a choice and it was just the miso caramel cheesecake. Now that is some of the best cheesecake I've had in an incredibly long time. I don't taste the miso flavor in the caramel besides the salty sweetness of it but that combo was perfect, especially with the homemade candied pecans. I don't know if the cheesecake was left out or purposefully like that but I love how when the cheesecake was served it wasn't cold! Usually cheesecake is served really cold and kind of like a cream cheese brick you have to cut into it with your fork. But this was barely chilled so the cheesecake was not super cold and it just melts in your mouth. It's so smooth, best dish of the night hands down. This place was very nice and great location. Everything is clean and a great ambience. There's a bar you can sit at when you walk in before you go to the tables. I do think that every side smaller table should automatically have the table lamp for light because it was just too dark to see the menu from my perspective. It looks like great lighting in the pictures because the phone took it in night mode and corrected the lighting but... it's a bit dark and I saw that they do have those modern battery table lamps so I think every table against the wall should have it. Now onto why it's only 4 stars. The service was so beyond incredibly slow. I kid you not we waited 35min at least before our first dish was served and it wasn't even the appetizer, it was the entree rib pasta. You could tell just how short staffed they were and you could hear that there's only 1 sushi chef 1 regular chef and that's it for the kitchen. I don't know who is managing the shift schedule, maybe it's because we came on Memorial Day, but this type of service is not acceptable. I don't take this on the employees at all. They were so incredibly nice and apologetic and doing the best they can and even the front of house was now bussing tables to help out!!! Because they're so busy, I had to keep reminding different waiters for small things like ginger for my sushi 3x, refill on my water, and he almost said we're good to go without paying the check but we didn't even receive our cheesecake dessert yet OR paid the bill. In total it took us 2 hours from sitting down, ordering within 5min, and waiting and waiting and waiting to eat... inexcusable on management

I will mention the place is designed very nicely. For starters the food was bland, except the shishito peppers. The peppers were fantastic and that's the only thing I enjoyed. The ramen was second best compared to the other items. Edamame was good. The sushi roll, seaweed would not break down as I was chewing it and the roll didn't have much flavor to it. Now for the reason for the two stars...the crispy rice. The bites are soooo big I had to cut them in half in order to eat it (good thing) because when I broke the second one in half; I found a black HAIR about the same length of a finger cooked in the rise (I'm blonde by the way). I was shocked and hate complaining. I wasn't going to say anything as I lost my appetite. My friend who was dinning with me, said something politely. The waiter said okay I'll get you another one and ran away with the plate before we got a chance to said we didn't want another one. We saw him show the manager and she okayed him to make another. I was shocked the manager or waiter didn't apologize, wasn't shocked by it, acted normal like nothing was wrong. For this reason I will not be returning. Again my other friend had a great experience and I had a bad one, so 50/50 shot. I know we are human and mistakes happen. It was the way it was handled that drop the rating. Along with bland food for the price.

One person in our party has severe allergies to nuts and shellfish but we didn't have any problems at any other restaurants during the entire trip. Of course, legally, we know you cannot guarantee that there won't be cross-contamination but the way the waitress came off was very rude and lacked empathy. Our friend felt so uncomfortable that she cancelled her drink and left to eat alone at the Johnny Rocket in the mall. After that interaction, the mood definitely shifted. The hostess came over to apologize but it was such a sad way to end our trip. Our friend came back before dessert and, despite the cold warnings, the waitress had the nerve to bring her a plate for dessert. Upon reviewing the itemized receipt after the trip, they charged us for our friend's drink even though we cancelled it and she didn't dine with us. The food was good and the restaurant was beautiful but, unfortunately, our entire trip ended on a sour note because of this experience. If you have an allergy, try Johnny Rocket or Three Thirty Three.
