Great spot for a late night meal offering a lot of options such as noodles, rice and dumplings. I ordered the chow fun here usually and it's good. My most recent visit I ordered the spicy beef noodle soup with chili wontons and I would get that combo again. The noodles can be chosen as egg or rice. The beef was really tender and soft. We drove 30 minutes to eat here and arrived right at 11:00. We were told there would be a 20-minute wait, so we sat outside for about 16 minutes since we weren't allowed inside. During that time, another guest was also told "20 minutes," which made me double-check. Only then did staff tell us the chef hadn't even arrived yet and they had no idea when service would start. Was craving some legit Chinese and had seen this place pop up online. Unlike most places that get featured on some foodie instagrams, this place didn't look like it was all about being cute and the food looked more my style. When you get there the menu is what you imagine at a legit Chinese place, written in both English and Chinese. With some help from the women working there I ended up choosing the spicy beef noodle soup, the soup dumplings, and chow fun in XO sauce and added chicken. When i got the soup I could smell the Szechuan peppercorn in there which I love and was exciting for the mouth numbing experience. The soup was tasty, and the beef was super soft. As first you might think it's going to be a bunch of tendons in the meat, but not at all. The dumplings were also delicious and done well. I unfortunately was not a huge fan of the chow fun but that's completely on me since I had no idea what I was really ordering. Knocking a place down because I didn't like it would be wrong. If you're not familiar, XO sauce is a bit seafoody in flavor and there was no way I was getting through that whole plate of it. Overall, great authentic food. The parking lot was a bit small, so biking there might be a better option for college students. Once inside, the restaurant turned out to be much larger than expected, with interesting Chinese paintings adorning the walls. We tried a variety of dishes including noodles, dumplings, fried rice, and drunken chicken - all of which were flavorful and served in generous portions. We visited around noon and found the restaurant to be fairly empty, likely due to the summer break. It was nice to enjoy a peaceful meal without the usual crowds. What impressed us the most was the reasonable pricing for the amount and quality of food we received. Friday night dinner spot! The place is easy to find and although the parking is limited, we were lucky to find a spot right away. The place itself is functional and has your condiments ready at your table. The staff were very friendly and the food came fast! The xiao long baos were delicious and the soup and the filling was so good. The lamb skewers were tender and well seasoned. I liked the fried rice a lot with a nice heat and strong flavors. I should have been to this place sooner! I hear about them but I was worried about traffic/parking around the campus. I did delivery order and I wanted to do this every Friday. The fish is so tasty with some kinds of salt and pepper sauce with lots of chili. The pickled celery on top of rice is surprisingly good and addictive. I have heard of this place for years but never got around to trying it. Decided to go in the summer while it is less crowded because there are less college students around. I know that it will make it easier to find parking since it's such a small lot with a very limited number of spaces. I don't know where I would park during the school year when there are simply more people around because there's not a ton of spaces around the vicinity...unless you're walking some ways away. But, if you get to make it inside, it reminds me of a lot of small owned Chinese restaurants I've been going in my whole life. We ordered the beef noodle soup, one spicy and one plain. One of us ordered it with rice noodle and the other with egg noodle. The menu defaults to rice noodle which I think is different but when we ordered, they gave us a choice of rice or egg. Quick note: get the rice noodle. The egg noodle was subpar. Both soups had great flavor - you can't go wrong either way. The spicy soup broth had nice spicy flavor rather than just being spicy and numbing. The rice noodles had a nice bounce/qq texture - makes this dish a little different than most places that have beef noodle soup. The beef was also great! It was too tough or dry. It had nice marbling of meat and tendon - great cut of meat for this soup. It was also cut to a good thickness that complemented the dish well. Service was great and prices were reasonable. So happy to have this as an option close to campus. You can tell the owners work hard and take pride in having this restaurants and it really reinforces that it's businesses like these I want to support! Give them a try! read more

This place is a must!!! If you stop by in AZ, give this place a go! During our stay, we went to this place 3 nights in a row! Yes, it was that good. First, the prices are reasonable, and the portions are just right. Next, the place opens pretty late, so you can grab a bite when your cravings call. The service is also top tier, as the food comes quickly after you order. But the most important question: how does it taste? Well, let me just say...it's pretty frickin' good. Every night, we ordered the Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup and the Chili Wontons. The soup was incredible, as it was light yet flavorful. We were pretty sick but could still taste the beefiness of the dish! The noodles were perfectly cooked with a nice thickness and chewiness. We also ordered a side of extra vegetables which consisted of sweet, crispy cabbage and broccoli. As for the chili wontons, the sauce was so tangy and spicy, I dipped the rest of the food in it too! Not only did the restaurant master these two dishes, they have a variety of other diverse foods to choose from as well. We also tried the BBQ potatoes, chicken wings, lamb skewers, and eggplant. Each dish turned out perfectly charred with a touch of smokiness from the grill. The dim sum was also tasty and good value, as it came with 2 different types of dumplings and 2 fluffy steamed buns. If you don't like the food from here, you've been getting the wrong stuff. This place is flavorful yet comforting, and easy to digest for the troubled folks. The interior is pretty nice, as you can enjoy your meal in a calm, clean space. The restrooms are clean as well. Lastly, I can't forget to mention the hospitality of the people. They were always nice to us and even remembered us when we came back 3 nights in a row! The sign outside says "HELP WANTED", so if you're around and need a job, you could get hired by them! I've been meaning to try this place for a while. It's in Tempe and I normally stay around the Biltmore area, so I opted to drive over after arriving into town. The chongqing noodles are amazing! It was cooked well and the flavors were good. My only complaint was the bok choy was ice cold, it was probably cooked ahead of time and not reheated properly. We came here for lunch and there was limited parking spaces in the small parking lot. There were some people inside of the restaurant. The menu had a lot of choices but we narrowed our food to the Steamed Dumplings ($6.99), the Rice Noodle Soup with Beef in Taiwanese Style ($10.99), and the Stir Fried Eggplant in House Sauce ($10.99). We waited a few minutes before the Steamed Dumplings came to our table. They tasted okay and what I would expect what steamed dumplings would normally taste. The Rice Noodle Soup with Beef in Taiwanese Style was supposed to be the dish I was looking forward to; however, the broth had a hint of lamb taste to it as if it was potentially used in another batch that had lamb in it. I was not a fan of lamb because of the gamey taste to it and that was ruining the broth and everything in it. I was disappointed in that dish. The Stir Fried Eggplant in House Sauce was okay and there was a good amount of it. Overall, I thought Chen's Noodle House was okay and would have liked if their beef noodle soup tasted better. I'm so happy i randomly came across this restaurant. I found myself dancing after every bite. Our server was so attentive, she answered all my vegetarian questions. She recommended the orange tofu and it's was so freaking bomb!! Couldn't get enough of it! The crab puffs were so fresh and crunchy. Both the orange sauce and the sweet and sour sauce were amazing. Probably the best Chinese noodle place in the U.S. Went to a Japanese place, at 9:15 the girl said it's closed, though official hour is till 9:30pm. Switched over to this place and was fascinated, so came back again the next day for lunch. The menu has a lot to offer, more than most other Chinese restaurants in NYC or LA. I stumbled upon Chen's Noodle House by happy accident while in Arizona for a college graduation. I originally had my heart set on some Mexican food in the same plaza, but the line was out the door and I was absolutely starving. That's when I saw Chen's -- and I'm so glad I did. The restaurant is run by the sweetest elderly couple who made the whole experience feel like visiting someone's home. As someone who is Chinese, finding truly authentic Chinese food in the U.S. can be a struggle. Most places tend to serve up a version of Chinese cuisine that leans more toward Panda Express than anything else -- but not here. We ordered a spread: the short rib kebab (so flavorful and tender!), chicken and vegetable fried rice (perfectly balanced and not greasy), house chow mein (loaded with ingredients and full of wok hei), and the mapo tofu (a standout -- spicy, savory, and comforting). My friends and I enjoyed it all during a cozy dinner at home, and every dish brought a little taste of home with it. I wish I could go back, but Arizona's heat and I are not the best of friends. Simply awful. The theme of this restaurant seems to be overcooked. The other theme seems to be pounds of white rice with very little else. Specifically, no flavor. The tofu was completely flavorless and had very little sauce. The chicken was so overcooked i literally thought it was the tofu dish. No utensils or soy sauce or anything else included. If I had not called and asked for house mustard and chili sauce, they probably wouldn't have included that and they don't have house mustard, just the regular cheap packets. The soup dumplings were the only thing that were good and above average but not fantastic. If you are going to make 80% of the dish white rice that is overcooked and sticky and almost inedible, at least include soy sauce or some type of edible sauce other than that brown stuff so I can try to eat it. read more

I've been coming to Chen's off and on for a few years. The first time I ordered I got my favorite Chinese American dish Chicken and Broccoli. I'm aware this is basic but I was floored how great theirs was-- large pieces of chicken with a sumptuous sauce. I didn't realize I needed to order rice on the side even 3+ years ago it was unclear on the menu. I ordered Chen's last night-- chicken and broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, chow mein and steamed dumplings. The chicken and broccoli went seriously downhill; they are using small pieces of chicken like kung pao style and some of the chicken pieces were chewy and grisly too, sadly. Despite being covered in brown sauce the whole dish was tasteless. I had to add soy sauce to zhuzh it up. The sweet and sour chicken tasted good but I was off put on how absolutely bright red it was, absolutely from food coloring. I try to stay away from artificial colors and I was surprised why this was necessary. On the other hand, the pork steamed dumplings were amazing; filled with pork, veggies, glass noodles along with a delicious soy-based dipping sauce. The chow mein noodles were also amazing, very flavorful and charred in just the right places. Overall I recommend staying away from the Chinese-American dishes and stick to noodles, dumplings and the like. I remember years ago loving their lamb noodle soup too. I was debating a 3 or 4 star review and went with 4 since their more authentic Chinese dishes are worth the visit. read more
