This is one of those places you would have know to come eat here. Can't really see it driving down the street. Well came here for lunch, nice chilly day and light rain, hot noodle soup dish sounds awesome. Nice small restaurant with friendly staff. Ordered spicy beef with rice noodle. Bowl came out pretty fast and of course as I expected noodle was not "just boiled" chew to it. It was not soggy but it didn't have the chew I like in my noodle. Don't get me wrong it was not bad, I would have waited little longer for fresher noodle. Broth had pretty good flavor and it's not spicy hot but it did have a mouth numbing schezwan pepper spice to it. I think this is one of two Chinese place I came with dish this mouth numbing . Noodle bowl was pretty good over all with good portion of meat and some veggies. I would come here again and try some other dishes.

One word YES!!! I work in the area. I have to work in office one week of the month. After work I'm not feeling going home cooking, long drive, plus annoying drivers equals go sit relax and get dinner. Tempe native here and Tempe has always been a foodies paradise in the Valley. It consists of diverse cultures which means various ethnic foods. So yes Yelp to the rescue what to eat? Hmmm let's see Chinese the out of town review win me over. It has late night pickup; cute, quaint, and not fancy. Review photos did it for me the person went all in on how good it was in her review. Why not try it. They have buns and dumplings; I feel like a little kid Drooling. Yes I got both bomb. I'm going back very small parking but worth the drama to get there. Next time may Lyft or Waymo from work & then back to avoid the drama of Tempe traffic & parking. Fluffy Grandma recommends.

Great spot for a late night meal offering a lot of options such as noodles, rice and dumplings. I ordered the chow fun here usually and it's good. My most recent visit I ordered the spicy beef noodle soup with chili wontons and I would get that combo again. The noodles can be chosen as egg or rice. The beef was really tender and soft. I highly recommend this place.

They offer very authentic Taiwanese/Chinese food here. My husband and I love it! The flavor may be just a little bit too plain for average US taste, but it would be exactly what my taiwanese mom would like, The people here are so nice and welcoming, just like a family! The ambiance is a little old styled, but kept very clean. Absolutely a keeper!

Pretty decent noodles and wontons. The spicy wontons were more on the sweeter side. Portion is pretty big!

This is by far the worst restaurant I have ever been to. The quality and quantity are a joke.

Chen's Noodles may be tucked away in a sketchy-looking plaza with limited parking, but don't let that fool you--this place is a hidden gem. The owners, who seem to have a Taiwanese background (you can tell by what's playing on the TV), run the restaurant with warmth and hospitality. My go-to order is the rice noodles and their signature dish: steamed chicken with chili sauce. The portions are generous--I can never finish everything in one sitting--so I always take half the chicken home and use their incredible chili sauce to make my own noodles later. The owners, a friendly Asian uncle and auntie, are always so kind. They go out of their way to offer extra soup for the rice noodles and greet every customer with the warmest smile. I've even spent holidays like New Year's and Chinese New Year here, and their food never fails to bring me comfort--it truly feels like home. By the way, don't forget to ask for a punch card from them!

Consistently great food at a solid price. I go for the braised beef noodle soup(order it spicy and get the chewy noodles) as well as the soup dumplings. The service is pretty fast and there's lots of seating. They are also perfect for night cravings as they do have late hours. It's a cute and clean little place.

If you want amazing local authentic food go here right now. I'm serious right now. It is so good and for the price we all left full and the sesame chicken is definitely a must!!

Was craving some legit Chinese and had seen this place pop up online. Unlike most places that get featured on some foodie instagrams, this place didn't look like it was all about being cute and the food looked more my style. When you get there the menu is what you imagine at a legit Chinese place, written in both English and Chinese. It's kind of hard to picture a lot of the items if you're not already familiar because there's not many pictures or much of a description. With some help from the women working there I ended up choosing the spicy beef noodle soup, the soup dumplings, and chow fun in XO sauce and added chicken. When i got the soup I could smell the Szechuan peppercorn in there which I love and was exciting for the mouth numbing experience. The soup was tasty, and the beef was super soft. As first you might think it's going to be a bunch of tendons in the meat, but not at all. The dumplings were also delicious and done well. I unfortunately was not a huge fan of the chow fun but that's completely on me since I had no idea what I was really ordering. Knocking a place down because I didn't like it would be wrong. If you're not familiar, XO sauce is a bit seafoody in flavor and there was no way I was getting through that whole plate of it. Overall, great authentic food. You can tell that the family running the place works hard and I can appreciate that.

An update from 7 months ago--…read more I've been to this Mensho location a few times now, it's actually very close to my house, I could walk there. Maybe when it's not summer I will :) I had previously mentioned I've been to Mensho Ramen in Japan twice and this location seems to be very close to quality and flavors. I've tried different appetizers on each visit here and I always get the Garlic Knock Out ramen bowl because I love garlic, but next time I need to branch out and try the duck matcha bowl, a friend of mine swears by it. It sounds like an odd flavor combo, but I hear it just works. Coming here is pricey, so this isn't my everyday ramen shop, but once in a while I enjoy it. Other reviewers mention not liking the noodle texture, the soup broth thickness, or overall flavors. Some have even questioned its Japanese authenticity. That's most funny to me, given it's very close to the ramen I had at Mensho in actual Japan. So I don't think it's Mensho who is unfamiliar with Japanese cuisine... I don't love all the apps I've had, for instance I would skip the Takoyaki or corn ribs, or $8 edamame. Next time I'd like to try the Aji fry, many people have said that's good. So, it's likely coming down to personal preference. Service has been solid so far. Servers are friendly and food comes out fairly quickly. Anyhoo, I'd still recommend this spot, and bring friends or family. We recently brought a friend who is vegan and she was happy to see vegan based broths and items on the menu. I think the price point makes it hard for some people to enjoy this place, as it costs about double compared to other bowls of ramen in the valley. But I appreciate that they make their noodles in house and the dining space is very authentic to a ramen shop in Japan (small and nice wood decor). It does remind me of being in Tokyo, which I miss dearly. Mensho here is more expensive than Tokyo. Food in the US costs way more in general. I think most folks would be surprised to learn that. But it's true, Japan has the most amazing food scene and they execute everything perfectly yet it's cheaper in many instances. I was blown away by how affordable food was in Japan. IMO that says more about the state of affairs in the US, and less about this specific restaurant. Some reviews have noted poor quality and management, I haven't noticed that yet, and I hope it doesn't happen. So far, I've liked it enough to keep going back every now and again :)

They still bring out food, drinks, and check on tables so there is service provided. Everything was quick and most of all tasty! Both of our ramens were medium spicy which can be modulated since the spicy paste is on the side and added to the broth. Overall both ramen bowls were delicious and with plenty of toppings included. One broth was clear, other was creamy and noodles had good texture. The noodle type isn't my exact favorite type of ramen but I still enjoyed it. I prefer a thicker ramen noodle. I still ate the whole damn thing lol. The chicken bun was very good although not spicy. I liked it-- chicken was nice and crispy and the bun was super soft & pillowy. The shrimp tempura hand roll was solid. No complaints. Tbh, I liked the food more than I expected to. Which is always nice when that happens. We've had this on our list to try since it opened over a couple years ago. Just kept forgetting about it. Glad we finally made it in :)

I'm surprised they don't have more, but there's still a great variety to choose from. The space has ample seating and is very clean. Your order comes out pretty quickly! The servers are nice and the $20 combo deal is well worth in my opinion. You get to choose a bowl of ramen and an appetizer for that price. Fried Gyoza: savory and crunchy with the perfect dip to top it off. Shoyu Ramen: Well done egg and comforting warm broth. Love the ratio of broth to noodles. The pork is perfect in proportion and tender bite. Pork Bun: the cutest bun with a piece of marinated pork inside. Pretty good app! I'm not sure if they make smaller pork buns for the combo because if you order a fried gyoza with the combo, it comes with 4 pieces instead of 6. Either way it was worth it as part of the combo. If you're looking for an affordable comfort ramen spot I definitely recommend Silverlake!
