We were in the neighborhood and so we thought we'd check this place out. I would say it was alright but I wouldn't be in a hurry to go back. We were seated right away because the restaurant was pretty empty except for one other table. The place is small and the chairs we sat in were sticky. The server was nice and attentive. I'm not sure if we just chose the wrong dim sum to order in the menu but it wasn't what I expected. First bite of chicken feet tasted off. The shumai was meaty and felt too much in one bite so I only ate one. The rest was mediocre. We did order two main dishes as well but we thought the main dishes were a lot better than the dim sums we ordered. If I had to rate the food. Main dishes: salty fish and chicken fried rice 5/5 spicy eggplant w/ beef 5/5 Dim sum: Shumai 3/5 Braised chicken feet 1/5 Custard buns 3/5 Shrimp dumplings 3/5 Shanghai soup dumplings 4/5 Bbq pork slices 3/5 Steamed pork ribs 3/5 Overall experience was ok. The dim sum was definitely not the highlight. I think it's the main dishes that were good that we wished we ordered more of as they did have a generous selection to choose from in the menu. read more

Our lunch was wonton soup, siu mai, har gow, bean curd rolls, chicken egg rolls, and Shanghai soup dumplings. Here are my ratings: Bean curd rolls 5/5--well prepared and a tasty garlic sauce on top Wonton soup 5/5--delicate and delicious broth with massive wontons Chicken egg rolls 5/5--generous amount of filling and nicely crispy Siu mai, har gow, and soup dumplings were all strangely bland in comparison. The excellent chili sauce helped, but I prefer my dumplings to have some seasoning on their own. Service was attentive, although the kitchen was a little slow. Don't go for the atmosphere--what do you expect from a strip mall restaurant? I wouldn't go out of my way to go back, but I also would try them again. read more

We're back at one of our favorite dim sum spots in Arizona, and it's just as good as always. Same great food, good service, and plenty of parking! If you're in the area, you definitely need to stop by. They also have a full menu of dishes for lunch and dinner, and everything is quite authentic. read more

Our Dim Sum experience was delightful. While they did not have the carts, the food was fresh and delivered hot. We ordered on a a fill in card and found that method very relaxing. We were there for a wedding planning meeting and had an enjoyable meal while discussing. Everything we ordered was tasty. By far, it was the service that sold this gem. I accidentally left behind a gift shirt that was given to me at the meal. It was a Sunday and I didn't remember until they closed. I called on Monday in a panic and left a voice message. They were closed. I drove in on Tuesday first thing and when I walked in and saw the shirt placed carefully behind the counter, the gentleman working there handing it to me with a smile, and refused my tip. The shirt was irreplaceable and my panic was quickly replaced with his kindness. We will be back. read more

I've been meaning to come here for years. I wish I hadn't. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. My first clue should have been no one was pushing around a steam cart. I didn't need a second clue. Overall meh. If you want dim sum there are other places that do it, and do it better. read more

First time trying this place. It was good. A little hole in the wall but sometimes those are the best places. Had the BBQ Pork Noodle Soup. It was delicious. Also tried the BBQ pork bun and steamed pork dumplings. My friend loves the pork buns, although good, wasn't my thing. Dumplings were good. Next time I want to try the soup dumplings. Service was also good. Place is reasonably priced. I would recommend. read more

First time at Dim Sum Cafe in Mesa and so glad we came! Authentic Cantonese dim sum that's hard to find nearby and they serve it all day. The pork & shrimp shumai and the salt & pepper shrimp were both excellent. I enjoyed the chicken feet as well. Great service, great experience. Definitely worth the drive from Gilbert. read more

My sister in law loves this place. Like really really loves this place, so went for a little family post Christmas weekend treat. 5 stars already bc it is in a little plaza (I love restaurants that are not pretentious, especially those located in non descript shopping plazas). Ambiance: Nothing fancy. Reminds me of the hole in the wall Chinese restaurants you see in movies, or that we would go to as kids in the 90s (just aged myself). Service: I will forewarn you- staff are not the friendliest. Food: Was pretty good. Menu is small, but that is ok because if you have too much, then you cannot always perfect your craft. We ordered: - Char siu bao (Pork BBQ buns). I'm sorry. As a Chinese woman, I could not get behind these. Maybe they were having a bad day, but the bread was very soggy, and fell apart in my hand right away. You don't want super gummy, doughy bao....but you don't want bao that cannot stick together. I will give them another shot though because my sister in law swears by them. - Xiao long bao (soup dumplings): they were good. Dumpling dough was tender. Pork was juicy, and the soup was delicately flavored. They didn't provide sliced ginger on the side though (not sure if they just don't do that in AZ?) to accompany the Xiao long bao. - Wonton noodle soup: light, delicate flavor. The wontons were also good, not too doughy, and not soggy (that is the worst!), and they were packed with flavor to balance against the lighter soup. Noodles were good too. - Eggplant - just get it. They were so tender, not super greasy, and the sauce was out of this world. - Hot oil sticks: you get these to dip in the wonton soup. These were SO GOOD. I usually don't like ordering these at restaurants because they're a) too doughy, which makes them heavy and sink in your stomach or 2) they're soaked too long in the oil, so they just again, sink in your stomach 3) they're served too cold. Here, none of that happened. These were warm a fluffy, and had a light crisp to them! - Scallion pancake - super tasty. read more

THE ATMOSPHERE * There was no music in this restaurant, so it felt very empty and awkward with just four customers inside. * From when we entered and while we were eating, the staff kept hovering and or staring at us while we were eating, which made me and my guest feel uncomfortable. * They gave us the check before asking if we were done. I was going to ask for another appetizer but didn't feel welcome to. * It felt like they were rushing us to leave for another large party of customers. It especially felt this way since they were hovering. * They insisted that they only take Zelle, but when we explained that we didn't have that, they tried to guilt us into not using a credit card by saying that "they earned more as a small business through Zelle". It felt a little pushy and sketchy. THE FOOD * They cross contaminated food, and it caused me to have an allergic reaction. My throat started to swell up. * As someone with Chinese family and who has had authentic Chinese food, the fried rice was not very flavorful and the wontons were burnt to a dark brown color. The General Tso's chicken was alright, but I've definitely had better at another Chinese restaurant. read more

Located in Mesa and opened its doors Fall of 2017. This was a current Tik Tok find for me. My daughter and I decided to come in for lunch last week. Not to busy when we arrived. It was shortly after the prime lunch time when we came about 1:30 PM. Atmosphere was inviting with Asian inspired light fixtures and modern wood accents. Booths surround the outer walls and inner areas had plenty of tables for dining. Clean interior. We were brought their menu which were HUGE and consists of a wide range of traditional Chinese dishes. One of the most requested dishes is the Dim Sum which is made to order and hence the name of the place. Appetizer appeal seems to be the chicken feet choice which supposedly has a gelatinous texture and packed with a light gingery, chili pepper sweet tangy flavor. We considered trying but passed. After reviewing all that's listed, my daughter and I both chose to go with the lunch special which is from 1 PM-3 PM weekdays. Server was pleasant and brought our soup to start. All lunch specials include either egg drop soup or hot & sour, plus an egg roll and white rice ( you can sub for fried rice at an additional fee). I had the sesame chicken and my daughter had the beef lo mein. I'd have to say, mine wasn't that great. It was way to sweet and almost had a taste of a pancake syrup. My daughter enjoyed hers much more than I did mine. Her meal was $10.95 the other $11.95 ( not including drinks). For a "lunch special" still a little steep IMO. Doubtful we would be back, but it was good to give it a go after seeing it on social media. read more

We ordered pork shumai and was very disappointed. The pork was terrible. I've eaten soup dumplings all over the world, these were definitely frozen. There was only one other table in the place so obviously service was good. Old and hidden NJ in a plaza, it don't waste your time. read more

The dim sum is the worst Ive had. The har gow had maybe 1 shrimp in it. The siu mai tasted like old meatloaf; really terrible. However, we also had sweet and sour chicken and beef chow fun, and they were both very good. I don't know how this place stays in business with the dim sum being inedible. The servers were kind, so I hope this place figures it out. read more

My husband and I love coming here! We come almost once a week. I am from NY and used to go to China town all the time for Chinese food and this is the best I've had in Arizona by far! I love that the restaurants atmosphere is that of NY. Nothing fancy - but in a good way! The owners and the family are amazing too! We always get the pork dumplings, Combination fried rice and combination lo mein and share. It's always more than enough food, we always take home leftovers. There is always a great amount of meat in each dish, especially with the shrimp! We will for sure be back! read more

Family owned and operated Cantonese styled restaurant! Absolutely love that my Yelp friends lead me here. Shout out to Paul and Elaine. Everything is cooked to order and they make their own dumplings and bao in house. The service was friendly and attentive. He spoke Cantonese and English very well. There is a proper way to eat bao. This restaurant seems very low key about if you do it right. But some restaurants post guys. Put it on the spoon that is provided. Poke a hole with your chopstick. Drink the soup. Apply whatever sauce you want. And eat. But you don't want to eat it with a fork and lose your soup. The interior is sparse. And I'm not sure they even have alcohol or boba. They do have soft drinks and hot teas. read more

WOW! Hadn't been here for a few months (3/4) and what a change. And NOT for the better. First off it's FILTHY. I mean nasty. Just look at that front door! Torn up window tint and trillions of stains & fingerprints. Looks as though it has never been cleaned. Ever. I don't like judging books by their covers having eaten around the world and cleanliness standards are not always U.S. level. Especially Southeast Asian street food. You gotta let the sanitary issue go to enjoy the experience. But this is inexcusable. Floors dirty, booths, worn and dirty, peeling paint, etc. So on to the food. Not good. The soup dumplings were dry, the shumai strange and extra chewy, my wife wouldn't even look at them. Shrimp dumplings, OK. Steamed pork, tasteless, and either all bone or fatty. Steamed roast pork buns had the heaviest consistency, Not in any way fluffy. Just odd. The West Lake soup was wayyyyy overspiced with cilantro and contained large chunks of broken up hamburger meat. I used to love this soup, but this was inedible. And the worse dish was the Singapore Chow Fun. The noodles were so overcooked, very little in the way roast pork (and the few pieces present were all fat), chicken and beef. There were a few shrimp. But the real letdown was the taste or I should say lack of (taste). For a dish that is supposed to be curry heavy it was super bland. Prices all seemed to have gone up by a buck or two. But that s***s everywhere. Service was mediocre at best, while the 3 dudes in there just sat at tables on their cellphones. With so many good dim sum places in the Asian District Mesa, this place is a horror and should really just close. Or BE closed by the health inspector. AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! read more

I will return for another crack at the dim sum cart and this time I want to try the sweet side of the menu. We usually have a crowd of four to six, sometimes more, when we visit so we always have a plethora of food on our table. The staff is always friendly and smiling, even if sometimes there's a language barrier. We point, they provide, and we always manage to have full bellies & great laughs at Phoenix Palace. Our bill was around $76 for two adults two kids and this time definitely did not feel like it was worth it. Sucks to see with the beautiful remodel, the food quality and quantity has gone downhill.

We chose mushroom and tomato soup base enjoyed pork belly, beef brisket, basa fish, Napa cabbage, enoki, corn, bean curd, and more. They have 3 options for Bogo free of the milk tea. I was repeatedly interrupted while ordering, my request to use the same soup base in two sections of the four-part pot for my child was denied, and after choosing the All You Can Eat option, I was immediately warned about leftover penalties before we had even started ordering. Those interactions made me feel more like I was being monitored than welcomed, which was very different from the level of hospitality I expected from Haidilao. Instead of ignoring my concerns, the dining room manager, Evi, took the time to listen to everything I had to say. I explained my entire experience, including my disappointment from a previous visit when I ordered a Zootopia promotion but was never told about or given the promotional gift. Evi was patient, professional, and genuinely wanted to understand why I was unhappy. More importantly, the management acknowledged my feedback and told me they would review and improve these issues. They also generously comped our entire meal, which I appreciated--not because I wanted free food, but because it showed they took customer feedback seriously. After those initial issues, the rest of our meal was excellent. The food quality was great, and the service for the remainder of the visit was attentive, friendly, and exactly what I had hoped for when coming to Haidilao. Nobody gets everything right every time. What matters to me is how a business responds when something goes wrong. In this case, they listened instead of arguing, took responsibility instead of making excuses, and made a sincere effort to make things right. Because of that attitude, I'm happy to update my review to 5 stars. I truly hope the improvements we discussed become part of the experience for every future customer, because that's the Haidilao reputation people come here expecting.

The Steamed Shrimp Dumplings were mushy and falling apart, completely lacking their intended texture. The Singapore Chow Fun was made with unpleasantly stinky shrimp and overcooked noodles. The Chicken Lo Mein featured dry, tasteless chicken that left a bad impression. Even the small sesame balls, the only somewhat edible item, failed to impress. The one positive aspect of my visit was the portion sizes, which were indeed huge. However, what's the point of receiving large portions if the food is inedible?
