I have been searching for a place with great a eggplant dish for my vegetarian father. We used to live in Toronto and the Bay Area and miss good Chinese food. This place did not disappoint! It has super friendly staff and absolutely delicious and amazing food! The vegetable spring rolls were crisp and not greasy, unlike other places where you have to soak up the oil in napkins before you eat them. The eggplant was perfectly cooked and tasted amazing, the jalapeño chicken was fantastic, and I had to make myself stop eating the vegetable chow mein (and I don't normally care for most vegetables). Absolutely worth the drive from Maricopa! I will continue to beg you to open a restaurant there too! read more

Dropped in here for a quick lunch. Casual restaurant with a mom and pop vibe. Prompt and courteous service. The menu had a lot of variety to suit all palates. The spicy fried fish and the pork with dry tofu were both excellent. The rice is ordered separately and was a bit dry and didn't seem freshly made. My family's search for good Szechuan food in Gilbert has finally ended. I don't know what took us so long to try Szechwan Tasty, but glad we finally did over the summer. I called to place a to-go order and the staff on the other line was very helpful. We ordered our favorite Szechuan dishes: mapo tofu and spicy fish fillets. They happily accommodated our request for vegetarian mapo tofu. I sent my husband to pick up the order, which was ready and waiting for him when he arrived. The food was still warm when he made it home. Both were absolutely delicious! The flavors and spice were on point. The portions were decent, too. Great takeout experience at Szechwan Tasty! I've been trying to find a high quality Chinese place, not necessarily solely Szechuan, and decided to try this one out. My husband and I ordered crab rangoons, spicy fried fish, house chow mein and kung pao chicken. Everything was excellent-- even the simple crab rangoon was good. I love the spicy fried fish and there was a nice mix of the actual Szechuan peppercorns and other red chilies. It had a nice, spicy but lightly fruity taste from the peppercorns. Super good. The kung pao chicken was slightly spicy, nicely saucy with lots of fresh veggies. And the chow mein was also quite delicious. The beef especially was great quality. I am so looking forward to returning to try more of their dishes. The ambience is nice and casual. I only had light interaction with the 2 people up front but they were so nice and gave me extra hot mustard sauce and chili crisp. 10/10. From the greeting, to the food! Everything was on point. The host was very nice. Greeted me and my daughter and as we walked in and were seated immediately. It was thanksgiving and you know what, we just weren't craving turkey. Neither me nor my partner nor his dad had the energy to cook. So we decided the best option was to seek out a new Chinese place. Szechwan tasty was like a shining light cutting through the fog tonight, leading us to the dinner of our dreams. We arrived and were greeted with incredible service. We ordered Kung Pao Chicken, Kung Pao Shrimp and Scallops, and Dumplings in Chili Oil. The spice level was perfect. Not too over powering that you lost the flavor of what you were eating, but the perfect amount of heat to leave a gentle sweat on my brow. The meat was delicious, sauce was very flavorful, and the rice was well cooked. And best of all, the price was reasonable too! The space was very cozy, made me wonder about the history of the place. It felt like my family was cooking for me. Honestly I might've had an out of body experience because it felt kind of like a dream? Maybe it's just being at a restaurant on Thanksgiving? Saw the great reviews and looked up the menu and saw the delicious looking food dishes. We went there and saw the picture of the sweet and sour chicken and asked to have that with shrimp,instead. I'm just going to leave a really honest review. I get pleasure out of giving 5 star reviews, but I need to be real. The jalapeño chicken dish was ok, but I only ate 1/2 of it. At some point, I couldn't stop thinking about the grade of the chicken breast and how fatty and rubbery it was. I'd rather pay more for a chicken dish and have the chicken taste "real." And by real, I mean lean and not rubbery. The flavor was decent, but the level of oil was a bit overwhelming. By itself, I would have given 4 stars. The vegetable delight was supposed to be "broccoli and mushroom in brown sauce." I ordered on ubereats. There was a no broccoli in the dish, neither American nor Chinese. Instead, there was some type of cabbage and mushroom. It tasted pretty decent, in fact five star for flavor. However, it wasn't what was advertised as I specifically ordered a broccoli dish. Everything was as expected, the mapo tofu was a little salty but was fine with white rice. The eggplant and tofu was a bit extra greasy....otherwise no complaints here. We were in town & our normal Chinese food spot was closed the day we were there so 8 of us came in here for lunch. The place was inviting, seemed clean & the team members were nice. All of us thought the food was just ok, we all liked their soups the best. I got the Szechwan Beef which was much better than their orange chicken & broccoli beef & jalapeno chicken. We were all bummed that they didn't offer soda from a fountain drink machine & only in cans (at a price gouging price). Stopped here the other night to try. My friend I absolutely love authentic szechwan cuisine. Our favorite was Szechwan Palace at the former Chinese cultural center (r.i.p.). Unfortunately, our search continues. The service, efficiency, speed, and overall dine in experience was good! Friendly overall. The two dishes we ordered were the pork with bamboo shoots and the 2 piece water boil (we opted for beef & fish). Now, the water boil is supposed to be prepped in the true Szechwan style, meaning tongue numbing spice. I had to order an extra side of chili oil to douse onto my rice to even feel anything. My spice tolerance is slightly above average for an East Asian person. And I have had my butt kicked and handed back to me at certain Thai, Chinese, and Indian restaurant. So I'm definitely not a spice tycoon by the least but oh boy was I let down. The water boil's broth, soup, whatever you want to call it, was 70% oil, 20% sodium, and 10% spice. No tongue numbing effect at all. I've been to other Chinese restaurants without the "Szechwan" in their names that offered Szechwan inspired dishes with more tongue numbing spice than this place. Come here for friendly service and a very nice size menu. They even categorize it for you. Americanized dishes on one side of their menu, more "traditional" dishes on the opposite side. read more

Me and my husband were craving that spicy, tongue tingling Szechwan peppercorn experience. We had high hopes because the reviews are pretty good! We ordered the spicy Szechwan beef, chicken fried rice, and cucumber with garlic sauce. Unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. The beef was not spicy whatsoever and no evidence of the Szechwan tingling sensation. It was more of a Chinese fast food beef experience. Me and my husband are spicy food junkies so we were disappointed. The chicken fried rice was a little greasy and had barely any flavor. We each took a bite and didn't touch the rest- which is a shame because we don't like to waste food. I've had a lot of cucumbers with garlic sauce in my day and this one is the bottom of my list. The garlic was potent but in an off sort of way, more of a garlic burn than a flavor. The sauce was mostly water. It wasn't very pleasant. The service was very nice and I hate to talk bad about their food for that reason. They were quick and helpful. There is a possibility that we picked the wrong items, and that other choices are better. But if you're looking for vibrant flavors, spicy food, and a Szechuan tingle... this doesn't seem to be the place to go. read more

Best Chinese food in Gilbert area! I used to drive to Tempe when I crave for Chinese food. And ever since this restaurant opened, it's becoming so convenient for me The chef and owner was the head chef of Szechwan palace for many years. And Szechwan palace was one of the very first authentic Chinese restaurants in town. Szechwan tasty have two different menus. One targeting local Chinese here and all these items are authentic and delicious. The other menu is in English only and all these dishes are American Chinese style. I have been there 3 times already since they've been opened. And never regretted any visit. Love this place and yes, they're gonna get real busy! read more

While the food is rather good. So far all dishes I've tried have been well above average I don't think it justifies their higher than average prices. They also don't offer small soup portions forcing you to buy the large containers which are way overpriced. The place is very quaint and clean and the staff is very friendly. The mala on the pig intestine did make up for some of the spice kick I was craving, but 1/3 of the dishes ordered being good is still a disappointment in my foodie book. I've been here a couple times and it's always been great. Fast service and food is always fresh and delicious. My first time here I tried the Water Boiled Beef and it was a super interesting experience with the mouth numbing Szechwan pepper soup base. If you like eggplant the Yu Xuang Eggplant is delicious. Today I went for their barbecue pork chow main which you can't go wrong with. The restaurant always looks clean and I've never had to wait to get seated.
