I'm not sure why I haven't reviewed Golden Gate yet. It's literally on my corner. We used to eat here a lot when my kids were growing up. You cannot beat their lunch special and we love the authentic decor. The service and food here are always top notch. We visited yesterday for the Lunar New Year - Happy Year of the Fire Horse! I was afraid it would be super busy, given the holiday, but it wasn't too bad. We were able to get a table right away. We ordered the Family Dinner for 2, which is only $23 per person and a TON of food. You get soup, appetizer platter and 3 entrees. The entree servings are tailored to size for how many people are enjoying but it's still huge portions. We left with our bellies full, 2 boxes stuffed with leftovers and hopefully good luck for the New Y

We came here for our book club to try a new spot. The portions are good for sharing. The food itself is okay, I personally felt it was lacking flavor. I used their chili oil in hopes of adding more flavor but was disappointed with the flavor of that as well. I do feel like our server was trying to rush us out. She brought over to go boxes and took away my friends plate as she was still eating. We like to support family business but I don't think we will back.

My family and I tried this Chinese Restaurant to celebrate Chinese New Year. Since moving to Mesa from California we have not found a Chinese Restaurant to our liking. Finally, Golden Gate Chinese Restaurant exceeded our expectations. The servers were very nice and helpful. The menu has all the traditional Chinese food choices you would expect. The appetizer platter with the flame, Happy Platter, was outstanding with generous portions. All of our entrees were delicious. The pricing is quite reasonable. The inside atmosphere was exactly what we are used to for American Chinese Restaurants. We will definitely become regular customers at Golden Gate Chinese Restaurant.

The appetizers overall were pretty good. Great chicken wing. The cream cheese wonton was good as was the egg roll. Soup was good as were most of the entrees. We were pretty much full after the soup and appetizers. You got 3 smaller entrees with the dinner for two and we still had food for a 3rd person to bring home. Overall I would say a solid value in a decent atmosphere and good service. We will be coming back.

My family has been coming here for many many years. We moved 23 years ago out of the area. We recently came to Arizona and China Gate was the first place we wanted to eat at. Actually we came here twice once for dinner then again the next day for Lunch. We ordered our favorites Fried Dumplings, House Special Chicken, & Mongolian Beef. We were alittle surprised they now charge for the Jasmine tea and they do not offer fried wonton chips when you are seated. The portions are family style and pretty large, as we always had extras. Served with either fried rice, white rice or you can request brown rice if your prefer. You are also offered a free dessert when they bring your receipt to pay, it was a fried wonton filled with a little banana piece and dusted with powdered sugar and a fortune cookie. The vibe in the restaurant is pretty authentic. And the food is great. The house special chicken was chicken breast dipped in a thin coating, deep fried, then sliced and covered with a small serving of vegetables and a delicious light brown sauce. The Mongolian Beef, was thinly sliced beef, that is well marinated and the garlic sauce was very tasty with a sprinkle of sesame seeds, sautéed green onions, carrots and white onions. We can't wait for our next trip back into town. China Gate is always a good to dinner spot. Till next time.

They actually remembered me saying it had been a long time. Impressive! Sweet staff. I ordered the chicken with double mushrooms because I remembered how good it was previously. The decor is minimal but that's totally ok, but a little background music would be nice. I was a little nervous when all the tables had non-Asians. Typically not a great sign. lol We ordered the pork egg rolls. Two to an order for around $3.50. They are not very big, but they are good! Super crispy, not greasy and came out screaming hot. We asked for spicy mustard and they brought some little packets. It's not very spicy so add in some chili oil if you like it hot. The noodles came out at the same time. It's a big portion with beef, chicken, shrimp, calamari and bok choy. Beef, chicken and shrimp were all great. The calamari was a bit chewy and the bok choy overcooked. The sauce was a little thicker than usual. Maybe a little heavy on the corn starch. It definitely needed the chili oil to add some zip. Overall, the food is good and again the service was fantastic. This is the place to go for your Cantonese Chinese food fix.

Ordered the pork and chives dumplings, XLB, and Beef chow fun. Service was expedient and waters were already preset on the table. There was a QR code on the table that allowed you to order online or if you waited a few more minutes, server will come over and take your order. All of our food came fast... within about 10-15 min. Chow fun had the wok hay ( wok air that makes food taste good) and thick slices of velveted beef slices. Pork and chive dumpling and XLB were juicy and moist and delicious with the ginger black vinegar chili oil sauce. I really like the food here and staff moves fast. Great place for a quick lunch.

Great little dumpling place!…read more The place is small, with limited seating, so be prepared to wait a little, though we didn't wait long! Maybe 20 minutes? The staff was all really friendly which surprised me because I swear they never stopped! They were busy but still kind and attentive! We ordered the spicy dumplings and the Hong Kong Fried Rice! The Boas were good, but the dough was a little thicker than I'm used to. So I felt full rather quickly! The fried rice however, 10/10 NO NOTES!!! Best fried rice I think I've ever had!! Totally worth the drive. Will be back for sure!!

Parking 5/5 Very busy lot, however; we parked at store-front between two places of interest. Atmosphere 5/5 Small quaint women owned Chinese restaurant celebrating 17 years! There were ~ 4 booths on the sides, we sat at two tables pushed together which could accommodate four. Service 5/5 Call-in order and table service. There were several pick-up customers during our lunch who appeared to be regulars based on their conversations. The owner brought us menus from the counter and took our beverage orders giving us a chance to look over the menu. After returning with our drinks she asked if we had any questions and we did. She was very pleasant and helpful. My wife ordered the Egg Foo Young, fried rice and small egg drop soup. I picked the Sweet & Sour Pork, fried rice and the large egg drop soup. Service today was amazing and friendly. Food 5/5 Oh my, all your favorites are on the menu. Our Egg drop soup hit the table in short order and both of us approved, excellent Egg Drop! Onto the entrees My wife's Egg Foo Young arrived first and her plate had several large and fluffy pieces that looked very tasty. It came with the traditional sauce on the side, and fried rice. The owner encouraged me to try some and my fork obliged. OM Gosh, perfectly cooked, wonderful texture and flavor! My dish is my regular go-to when trying new Chinese cuisine. The pork was perfectly cooked, slight crispy which I enjoyed. The S&S sauce was nice as well. I added some of my rice to the mix. Based in both our entree selections I will order these again! Our cook came out to clear our table and we thanked him for a great lunch. $48.35 plus tip for our visit today and we had leftovers too. Egg Foo Young my friends-SYOY!
