We saw this place on Check Please and thought it looked great. The place was small and casual but nice. The service was very good. The food on the other hand was just fair. We ordered the Beef Chow Fun and Pork Sheng Jian Bow. The beef came first. The noodles were overcooked and the beef was fair but sparse. Especially $19. It could have used a bit more flavor as well. It was mostly oil and soy. It was tender and not fatty or stringy. The bao. They looked wonderful on the plate. The bao bread was actually the best part of the Bao. The meat filling was pretty bland and dry. Most good Bao while not juicy like a dumpling or soup dumpling are at least moist, tender and have a bit of juice. The value. $35 before tax and tip puts this very low on my value meter. Close to $45 all in could get 3 people a pretty good lunch special at most Chinese restaurants in town.

The inside isn't big so we were happy they were able to accommodate us somewhere so we could sit together. The food came out promptly and was so good! The XLB was so flavorful. The portions and prices were also pretty good. They continued to check on us and refilled our waters throughout the service. I would highly recommend!
This is an awesome spot to get happy with bao, soup dumplings, and more. This location is within Mekong Plaza, a little Mecca of Asian food in Mesa. It's a very small place so at busy times you may have to wait for a table. Yet, the wait is worth it. You can also order to go and order large larger quantities of their product, frozen to take with you and make it home. We come to this place as often as we can, even though we live quite a distance away.
Saw some videos about Happy Bao's on social media and found ourselves in the area so we stopped in to try it out. Menu is massive. Everything sounded amazing. Tried the bar bun combo, wontons in spicy chili oil and the hot and sour noodle soup. Only regret was that we couldn't try more. Spice levels were on point. Flavor was exceptional. Large portions. Zero complaints!

They don't allow outside drinks and we had our boba teas with us. We tried their spicy chili dumplings, chicken xiao long bao and beef chow fun. The spicy chili dumplings were all spice and no flavor. The filling inside lacked any depth to it, all I tasted was pork. Definitely need to up their game and include some flavor in their meats. The chicken xiao long bao were decent soup dumplings. The chicken had more flavor and the broth was tasty. Definitely wasn't the best I have had, but not the worst. The beef chow fun was inedible. Not sure what they put in it or how it's cooked, but it had a weird smell to it. It was so off putting and I could smell it through the take out bag. Couldn't put my finger on the cause, but it ruined the dish. My wife also felt the beef was a cheap cut, you could tell from the texture.
Take out review! I ordered via DoorDash though you can order in front of their shop on the iPad. I got the chicken dumplings and the braised pork rice. Chicken dumplings: Dry and chewy. Not good. Wouldn't recommend. Braised pork rice: The flavor was good and the pork was tender but wish they gave a little bigger portion of rice and meat. The other reason I give it 2 stars is because of the lack of care when it came to packaging the order. They included no utensils and no sauce for the dumplings. Not only that, they didn't wrap it tight so the sauce of the pork rice spilled all over the bag when I opened it up. Maybe you'll have a better dine in experience.
Lunch on a busy Saturday afternoon. The place was very crowded, but everything moved quickly. We sat outside (which is a table inside the mall, but outside the restaurant itself). The menu has plenty of options from dumplings to bao to rice to veggies. We opted from a variety of place of bao, Chinese broccoli, and Honey ribs. All the dishes were really good! The bao are chewy on the top and crispy on the bottom. The honey ribs were delicious! Yes, they are small pieces of rib with bones, but the bones are easily removed. I actually dipped my bao dough in the remaining honey rib sauce. So good! The Chinese broccoli was a nice offset to the meat of the other dishes. There are a variety of sauces you can get on the veggies. Spicy garlic was very good. N*joy!

Over the past few years, we've tried several different items and have enjoyed everything, but our favorites are XLB, vegetable shen jian bao, and Singapore rice noodle. The food is always super tasty and fresh. The portions are big enough to share, and the prices won't break the bank. They also have combo deals for two, four, or more people, which are a great deal if you're not too picky! Happy Baos is located inside Mekong Plaza near the food court. The space is cozy, but there's ample seating inside and outside of their space, but fills up quickly. They now have a device outside for placing to-go orders, making it more convenient to get your hands on their delicious baos!

Then a friendly & professional lady brought our water and took our order. This has always been a small store front with a few tables just outside the store front. Everything was clean and we arrived just in time to get a table inside. Our food was prepared, cooked and seasoned well. I would definitely return.

They have all kinds of cool shops and places to eat along with a huge grocery store. We visited on a Wednesday night about 630pm and were able to get a table right away. However it is a small restaurant and very popular. While we were there a line formed outside for those waiting to be seated. It's worth the wait! Their food is very authentic and fresh. The quality is apparent and the bao's were a work of delicious art. I personally ordered the Pork Wonton Noodle and it was amazing. The broth was super flavorful and the wontons were perfect. I also tasted the Egg Fried Rice, which was some of the best I ever had. I'll definitely be returning to Happy Bao and would like to try some of the other spots in Mekong Plaza!
First time. This restaurant was in a asian area of Mesa from what we saw. Inside was small. We got the Xiao Long Bao, Dan Dan, and House Fried Rice. Everything was very good. Had lunch here and it was about a 10 min wait to get in. There is an iPad at the front door to put your name on the wait list. Small footprint in the Mekong Plaza. Ordered the pork and chives dumplings, XLB, and Beef chow fun. Service was expedient and waters were already preset on the table. There was a QR code on the table that allowed you to order online or if you waited a few more minutes, server will come over and take your order. All of our food came fast... within about 10-15 min. Chow fun had the wok hay ( wok air that makes food taste good) and thick slices of velveted beef slices. Pork and chive dumpling and XLB were juicy and moist and delicious with the ginger black vinegar chili oil sauce. I really like the food here and staff moves fast. Good spot in Mekong Plaza. Was sat right away and ordered the spicy wontons, Xiao Long Bao, and Chicken Sheng Jian Bao. The spicy is mild overall with a light chili spice on initial bite. It fades, so the dipping sauce was nice to have with it. The Xiao Long Bao were the winners of thee meal and would be why I go back. Easy to eat and tasty. I only wish the soup inside was a bit hotter. The Chicken Sheng Jian Bao was good, but the breading a little thicker than I personally like. This felt more like a dessert with the sesame bottom. Good taste, just heavy. Felt like we were rushed a bit and we're asked several times if we were done. There were empty tables, so that knocked it from the higher 3.5 side to the lower. Great little dumpling place! The place is small, with limited seating, so be prepared to wait a little, though we didn't wait long! Maybe 20 minutes? The staff was all really friendly which surprised me because I swear they never stopped! They were busy but still kind and attentive! We ordered the spicy dumplings and the Hong Kong Fried Rice! The Boas were good, but the dough was a little thicker than I'm used to. So I felt full rather quickly! The fried rice however, 10/10 NO NOTES!!! Best fried rice I think I've ever had!! The photo from internet is def not real. The beef noodle soup was not hot enough and the Xiao Long Bao was warm only. They gave you a lot of meat for the beef noodle soup and noodles is overcooked. read more

Happy Bao's is located inside Mekong plaza and is one of my favorite dumpling restaurant. We went during lunch time on a sunday and it was quite busy. I haven't been in a while and I noticed they sadly took away their combo meals. Either way, the food was so yummy. We ordered the house fried rice which includes shrimp, beef, chicken and BBQ pork with onions, peas and carrots. The portion size was also huge. We also got soup dumplings and the pork sheng jian bao buns. Out of the dumplings, the soup dumplings were soo good and juicy. The pork sheng jian bao buns were good too, but I prefer the soup dumplings more. I also love the sauces they paired with the dumplings. You can also ask them for some ginger. The beef noodle soup was also so flavorful. The broth was so rich and the noodles had a good texture. Service was also super quick and efficient. This is a small restaurant with a couple tables inside and right outside. They do take card which is a plus. I will definitely be coming back when I am craving asian comfort food. read more

Tucked in the back of a shopping plaza this was a delicious find! We initially came to this plaza because h mart is across the street but stumbled across this and got immediately hungry. When you walk up to the front, you will see a kiosk that you can put your name down or order to go. We were seated pretty quickly, but we were the first ones on the list but all the seats were packed. They got people in and out pretty quickly, and the staff was very friendly. Now time for the good stuff! The food was delicious and fresh. You can tell that the soup dumplings were handmade and made with love! The cucumber salad was good, but very garlic. Something that kind of did throw me off was that the cucumbers look like they had been smashed in the middle which I wasn't too fond of, but the cucumbers still had a good crunch when we bit into them. So for presentation on the cucumber salad I would give a 2/5. I would definitely come back and get more soup dumplings or they refer to them as Xiao Long Bao. We also got the Rou Jia Mo which had pork and some other ingredients in there, and it was in between almost like an English muffin, but fresh. Overall, it was also very flavorful and I would get this again. The ambiance was busy since so many people were eating there during lunch! The Yang Zhou Fried Rice was missing Chinese Sausage in it which was very disappointing since that's the best ingredient. The Lu Rou Fan wasn't as flavorful as previous orders. The packaging could be improved with a top that seals so the sauce doesn't leak over into the delivery bag. Not the best order tonight. read more

I come here often because I live near the Asian district in Mesa. Happy Bao's is located inside Mekong Plaza. They are not a large restaurant, but the place is a cozy spot to enjoy a meal. Recently I ordered the Combo Sheng Jian Bao option so that I could try a variety of their baos. The combo comes with pork, chicken and vegetable baos. I also ordered the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup as an entrée. Everything here was great including the service. read more

8/29/25: this particular Friday we visited Happy Bao's for the first time after work; we arrived around 5:30ish. We left happy & stuffed - with leftovers! Food? I don't like seafood or onions, so it's sometimes a challenge for me to eat at Asian restaurants. Luckily, I was able to enjoy some tasty items from Happy Bao's. The food came out hot, it was extremely colorful, and everything was delicious. Service? It's a very small place inside the restaurant (if you suffer from claustrophobia, think twice), but there was a small table or two immediately outside their door. It's in the Mekong Market so if you've been there, you know there's a pretty large dining area located in the food court. The few staff we spoke with were polite & quick. Ambiance? Nice. They had some cute decor on the walls, though I will say the floor near our table was a bit sticky. Considering the amount of traffic (a lot of customers were simply picking up orders) -- plus how full & busy it was -- I imagine it's difficult to find the time to clean the floors. I would totally visit Happy Bao's again, though probably for take out vs dine in. read more

My friend and I visited Happy Baos last week and we both left very happy! It was a great experience. Happy Baos is located inside of an Asian mall in Mesa. We had to go inside the mall to get to it. Once inside, it was easy to find. It seems like the restaurant does a lot of takeout, but they still had ample seating for those choosing to eat at the restaurant. Our server was very sweet and answered our questions about the menu with confidence. We shared the chicken sheng jian bao, chicken xiao long bao, and chicken cabbage dumplings. The food was phenomenal. It's been several days and I'm still thinking about it! We are already planning our next trip back! read more

The dipping sauce tasted like a mixture of soy sauce and something else. Quite unique and salty. It added flavor to the bao. The bottom of the bao had crunchy sesame seeds. I didn't normally like sesame seeds. I couldn't taste the flavor of sesame. The beef balls inside the bao were cute and really round. They are a lot smaller than the outside of the bao. I think the bao bread expands to be two times larger than the meat balls inside. The outside the the bao is really pretty. There were a few tables full. Normally they don't have any empty tables available. The little ordering kiosk at the front was interesting. I did not use it, but may consider it in the future when they are busy. read more
