It's challenging to find authentic Sichuan flavored food nowadays especially here in Mesa, AZ. But you know it's amazing and authentic when people of native tongue come here and eat it themselves!!! Probably one of the best I've had in awhile!! I'm from Orange County, CA and there are many great Chinese food around here and I would say this meets up to those standards of mine. Upon sitting, we requested a larger round table and they were very quick and accommodating. Each item came out rapidly and was amazingly great! The restaurant is itself was pretty empty at the time we came, but we knew it would be busy later in the evening so we came during a dead time. It started to pick up when we left the restaurant. I wouldn't say friendly is the right word, but efficiency and quality with best. Describe my experience here. I wouldn't have it any other way knowing it's an authentic Asian restaurant. So glad I stopped at Original Cuisine after passing it earlier on my way to an appointment. Do not let the building or the area around it turn you off. Walk in and you will be warmly greeted by their staff. I was tired so I got my food to go. I went with the broccoli beef that came with white rice. I got home and could not wait to open up my bag. The food was still pipping hot and I dug in! The broccoli had a great crunch to it and was seasoned well. The same for the beef. The sauce was light, and had a delicious flavor without being too salty. I got a few meals out of it for just $12! This will be my new spot whenever I get a craving. We actually came to Original Cuisine a long time ago, but with so many new restaurants opening, we kind of forgot about it. We came back on a Saturday night for dinner, and honestly, once we walked in, all the memories came right back. The place isn't very big, but it's roomy enough, and the tables aren't too close to each other, so it feels comfortable even when it's busy. Our server was really nice and friendly, which we always appreciate. The food was just as good as we remembered, fresh, flavorful, and very satisfying. We ordered quite a few dishes: beef tongue, crispy pork intestines, Tianjin pancakes, sliced beef with ox tongue, numbing pork blood, cabbage, pork belly with garlic, and braised beef noodle soup. Everything came out great and tasted very authentic. The pork belly with garlic was definitely the highlight. It was tender, super flavorful, and the presentation was fun too. The braised beef noodle soup was comforting, and all the other dishes were solid and delicious. Coming back here really reminded us how good this place is. Now that our taste buds are refreshed, we'll definitely be back more often. Some good restaurants really stand the test of time, and Original Cuisine is definitely one of them. read more

If you're looking for delicious, authentic flavors then this is your place. Since moving to Phoenix I've been disappointed by so many places but this is very much so the exception. The service & food are both incredible. You can tell everything is made with love. My husband and I came on a weeknight for dinner & tried a variety of dishes. I can't say there was anything we didn't like but our all time favorites were the stir fry cabbage, jalapeño beef and spicy crispy chicken. A bit disappointed with the food. I drove an hour expecting something more authentic, but both main dishes lacked flavor. The food came out very quickly--less than five minutes for both--and we were the only customers at the time. I think if the dishes had been cooked longer, they might have developed more flavor. The pork, tripe, and intestine had a strong, unpleasant taste, as if they weren't very fresh or weren't prepared properly. The spice level was very mild, so if you like spicy food, you may need to ask for extra heat. The service was quick, but the restaurant could improve on cleanliness. My chopsticks and chair were oily when we arrived. Overall, I found the experience a bit disappointing. read more

When you drive by this particular restaurant, you may kind of get sketchy feel but as soon as you step inside, that concern is put to bed. We were greeted by a very nice young man and seated quickly. He was very pleasant and handed us our menus and asked if he could get us something to drink and brought us water immediately. Their menu is very vast. They even have a separate noodle menu. We ordered the spicy crispy chicken with peppers and beef stir fried noodles. The chicken was done to absolute perfection. It was very light, crispy and not oily at all! Popped into Original Cuisine for lunch just as the doors opened. First impression: very dated -- more surface clean than deep clean. Staff came over and was friendly. We ordered the classic Mapo tofu and the eggplant with string beans. I thought both dishes were pretty good. The ambiance leans gritty, which is unfortunate -- this place could have real potential in a clean, modern space with some proper staff training. I really love coming here for authentic Chinese/Szechaun food. The kind of dishes you don't get in American style Chinese places (not that those can't be or aren't good). Their vegetables are cooked well and I really enjoy the garlic sauce. The tofu in the salted duck yolk was one of the highlights of the dinner. I highly recommend. We also tried their dry pot mix. That was also seasoned and cooked well. Don't skip on trying it! Service is friendly but can be slow when it's really busy. It can get busy and loud here but it's all family-friends hanging out over dinner vibes. I'll continue coming back. It was my first time and came on recommendation of other Yelpers. Of course I had to have the signature dish of spicy crispy chicken. Served with white rice. The chicken was plentiful as were the little red peppers. Very tasty dish. And a mountain of food for one! So much so that I dined on it a second night. Had been here before thanks to a yelp event, wanted to come back and finally was able to. Stopped by for late lunch. The place was not crowded. The person who came to assist us was very nice. Got us water right away and gave us a lot of recommendations for food as well. We tried the spicy chicken and then the pork belly. Both were really good. But I hoped the pork belly to have a little fat and cube cuts but it was more like slices. Their dumplings were good as well. It was quite, and I think they are a family run business. Have been to this restaurant multiple times already and every time leaving so satisfied with the meal. One of my favorite dishes is definitely the chili spicy crispy chicken and also the stirfry eggplant. Depending on the group of friends I go with each time we order a few extra dishes from the menu and every time none of these dishes, disappoint. The service is super fast and food comes out very quick for how busy this place can get especially at night. Portions are good and lots of seating space and one of the best things is that it opens pretty late into the night so if you're ever craving something delicious late night I would highly recommend coming here. read more

They advertise as being szechwan, and that is not a lie. A small restaurant that serves true Chinese food. Companion was not quite as adventurous as I am and so ordered broccoli beef. The meat was nicely velveted and the broccoli beautifully fresh. Served in a nice sauce it was excellent. For myself, I ordered the pork belly with garlic sauce which is listed as an appetizer. I was unable to finish it because the portion was so big! The dish is served cold with slices of cucumber and the garlic sauce. While I didn't care for the flavor of the garlic sauce, the pork belly was perfect and beautifully presented. Throughout the orient rice is always available and is almost like bread on the table here. We ordered fried rice with chinese sausage pieces in it and it was divine. The last time I had rice that was prepared the way this was, was when I was in mainland China. It almost brought tears to my eyes. They have a health department rating of A, and it shows. So there's so many "chain" restaurants out there so I try to hit some "mom and pop" spots (locals) as often as possible. We wanted something a little different so we stopped in to original cuisine From the outside you might think, Eh. But this place is one of those that just has good food and is cool in that it's tastefully decorated to the culture without being over done. It seemed clean and theres quite a bit of seating. I will say they seem to want to make sure the bathrooms are clean but probably used a little to much floor cleaner, but better to much than none at all I guess. The lady greeting you when you come in is also true to the culture and she's really super friendly and she makes sure to say "WELCOME" to every single person coming in. The food was very good. I would have to say they had the best orange chicken I've had in a very long time, the "spicy crispy chicken" dish with peppers was really good and the pork fried rice was just awesome. I usually prefer fried dumplings but theirs seemed to be steamed and were amazing and the sauce they use is so delicious. The ribs we had were good enough but we weren't completely sold on them. When you look at the menu, you might think they are pricy but keep in mind, you either need to share or get a to go box for each dish because they are huge. Entrees will definitely feed 2 people but most will feed 3 to 4 people. Stop in and try them, I will again for sure. read more

I have been to Original Cuisine a handful of times now... and they always deliver the flavor with friendly service and a smile! Original Cuisine is one of those neighborhood staples that seemingly has been around forever and will continue to be because they do what they do so well!! They are quick to stop by your table and get your drink orders (and food too, if you're ready)! And they are extremely efficient in the kitchen, preparing food orders promptly and quickly! They don't offer much in the way of gluten-free offerings, but they're awesomely willing to modify their recipes when possible! My go-to dishes are the Shredded Potato Spicy and Sour... and the Yangzhou Fried Rice (with no soy sauce) -- when you combine those dishes, then it is a true delight for the taste buds!! I've always passed by this establishment not thinking much of it based on the outside, but it was repeatedly recommended to me by some coworkers, so I gave it a try. After looking over the menu, a family member and I decided to order a bunch of dishes to share, we got the fungus salad with garlic, dumplings with chili sauce, fried rice with Chinese sausage, and the house special grilled fish skewers. Out of all the dishes we ordered, our favorites would have to be the fungus salad and the grilled fish skewers. The fungus salad had the perfect crunch to it with a mild to medium spice. This dish was noticeably milder when we ate it there, when we took it home as leftovers and it marinated in the sauce for a few hours, it changed the dish up and ended up being SUPER spicy (in a good way). For the fish skewers, the fish itself was fresh, nice and crisp, there was no overwhelming fishy taste. However, the soupy sauce it came in was a bit lacking in spices that usually characterize authentic Szechuan flavor. The dumplings were okay; they were a bit sweeter than we had expected. The fried rice was standard, nothing special. Overall, service was fast but kind of aloof. Our server barely talked, but she boxed up our food with care. This restaurant is very unassuming, it's one of those places you don't go to for the ambiance or the service, you go for the food. Their menu is extensive with many authentic dishes at varying prices. Don't let the chili pepper scaling scare you out of trying them out. read more

If you want like authentic Chinese cuisine, look no further. We've seen this place from like TikTok and reels so we finally checked them out and it was allllll delicious. We did like a pork plate with dumplings and then each of us got a side of rice. It's the perfect amount for two people for sure to share. There's literally like 20 other things we wanna try there and each one looks just as delicious. It is a not a huge place but can accommodate decent size parties for sure, we saw a 6-8 top enjoying their meal. We got the Chongqing spicy crispy chicken, Mongolian beef, General Tso's chicken, beef stir-fried noodles, fried liver, cucumber w garlic sauce (forgot to take a pic of this one), chicken wings in dry pot and pork ribs with chef's special spices. I liked all the dishes but I'd probably skip the beef noodles and General Tso's chicken. There was nothing wrong w them, but they just weren't to my tastes. My favorite dishes were the crispy chicken, liver, and cucumber w garlic sauce. I also liked the dry pot as well. Please note the dry pot is HUGE! I'd say 2-3 people can probably share it. Service: honestly it was a little bit spotty and we had to flag our server down for water refills, but other than that, it wasn't bad. We had a six person table, so I imagine it was a bit overwhelming for the server. She was nice though. Ambiance: it wasn't too busy for lunch and the place was clean. It's a casual atmosphere, so don't expect anything fancy, but it's a good Chinese spot w no frills. They play Cantonese pop in the background (or what sounds like it). Overall thoughts: I always generally enjoy my food here! And this time was no exception. We all left full and happy. Please note that groups of six or more are automatically charged a 20% gratuity. When I tell you this place is amazing, Believe me it is!! The food is amazing we always get the Chongqing Spicy CrispyChicken with Chili and the beef dry pot with white rice and cabbage. Each dish is a 10! But not only is the food amazing but the customer service and the hospitality we receive here is like never before. I have a toddler and they cater to her like no other. This place has the best authentic Sichuan style Chinese food in Phoenix! The dry pot is amazing which I recommend the most and the string beans and chili chicken were spicy enough to my liking. Only thing I didn't like too much was the shredded potatoes because they added too much vinegar making it more sour than spicy. Still the rest of the dishes make up for it. Did you know that "wonton" is Cantonese for "swallowing clouds?" Maybe that's why I feel like I'm in heaven when I'm devouring wontons at an alarming speed. I joined my sister for dinner at this place and we had a good time. Quickly upon walking in, we were greeted and seated. The menus were dropped off and the friendly worker brought us some cold water. We ordered: One order of spicy dumplings One order of garlic green beans One order of the spicy crispy chicken Two white rice's One soda The food came out not too long after and we began to eat. The green beans were our favorite as they were cooked and seasoned perfectly. The spicy dumplings were also pretty good, not at all spicy, and they were pretty stuffed. I ordered chonquin chicken, which just never arrived and didn't really get an acknowledgment when it was brought up. We also noticed they didn't include sichuan peppercorns in the fish skewers, so the server came out with a spoon to dig through the soup and verify that they were indeed missing (they were). I honestly don't know why we don't come to Original Cuisine more often. Their food is delicious and the staff members are so friendly. They always make you feel welcome! We always have the spicy crispy chicken with chili. We opt for mild because wow it's spicy, they aren't kidding with their heat levels. It has an insane amount of chopped peppers in it, it's a bit excessive since it's hard to eat around them. We had their chicken fried rice which is flavorful with the right amount of saltiness. I came here for one of my all-time favorites, the Chongqing Spicy Crispy Chicken with Chili, and it did not disappoint--crispy and flavorful. I would have liked for more Szechuan peppercorn. I also tried a new dish, the boiled beef with roasted chili and tofu, and it was excellent. The beef was incredibly tender, and the rich, spicy sauce brings the heat. Had a chance to try this place for the first time this past Sunday and we were very impressed. Exterior facade was questionable but interior is very cute and inviting. Customer service was amazing from start to finish. We ordered the crispy chicken with crispy peppers, beef belly plate, and egg fried rice. Everything was so flavorful and delicious. I've been eyeing this spot for so long now. Luckily, I was finally able to try it with my friends. We ordered the food to go, and the ordering process to picking it up was very simple and quick. We ordered the shredded pork in special sauce, fried rice, eggplant, cabbage, and the spicy chicken. I think out of all of these options, I'd pass on the fried rice next time (or maybe choose one that added protein). Still, it was very delicious, and offered a middle ground for everyone in case the food was too spicy. They are Szechuan cuisine, so their foods do have a kick to them. I don't like really spicy foods, and at least the dishes we got, I didn't think they were too spicy. Some had more of a kick than others (I think the eggplant did?), but it was all tolerable overall. I'd say a hot cheeto is spicier than the food, but it's still a noticeable presence as it builds over time. I would order the spicy chicken and eggplant again for sure, and would come back to try the mapo next time. I think for the quality, efficiency, price, and how late the restaurant is open, this place gets an A+ in my books! read more
