Went for takeout -- the prices are good, but the food wasn't as authentic as I expected. The potstickers were a little too doughy and didn't have much flavor. The Szechwan chicken sauce was sweet and didn't taste like Szechwan flavor at all. When I went in to pick up my order, the bathroom was right by the entrance and had a very unpleasant smell, kind of like underground water. I wanted to try their Szechwan specialty dishes, but after this experience, I'm not sure it's worth it.

    Wontons in spicy sauce

I originally found this place when I was looking for long bao (soup dumplings). While I did not order them this particular visit, they are amazing and I highly recommend. I've had this place a handful of times and recently visited in-person for the first time. It is a contender for my favorite Chinese spot in Phoenix. When I visited, I was one of only three groups dining. As much as I'd like to keep this place my own secret so I never have to fight for a table, they deserve more patronage. The interior is humble, but comfy. I was greeted immediately and seated at a booth. They also have tables with Lazy Susans for large group dining. The service was stellar. The staff was super attentive, ensuring my water was never empty. They briefly checked in a couple times, but didn't interrupt my conversation with my dining partner. The three dishes I ordered were all phenomenal. The spicy sauce for the wontons was the perfect spice level. They definitely didn't skimp on the chili, but it wasn't so hot that it overshadowed the flavor. There were 12 wontons and the dish was only $8.95. The scallion pancakes, which I *always* order, were delicious per usual. They are layered and flakey like a croissant and the scallion flavor is phenomenal. The vegetable lo mein was also delightful. I opted for chow fun noodles, which are a wider flat noodle. The dish was packed with flavor and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. I am eager to continue eating my way through their menu. However, I've tried enough dishes to confidently recommend them to anyone who loves pan-Asian cuisine. Szechwan Kitchen is serving up authentic Chinese at a price you can't beat. Thank you for the consistent quality and excellent value.

A no-nonsense Chinese spot with own parking and a roomy, quiet dining room. Szechuan-spicy lunch entrees, which can be made with less spicy on request, tend to be on the greasy side. Cheapest lunch in the area with a long list of choices on the lunch menu.

I was not impressed. Everything we ordered lacked flavor and seasoning. This was below mediocre. I definitely won't be back.

Landed here due to our usual spot being closed. I want to compliment their customer service! Guy up front was so nice and patient even though we came in 30 minutes before closing. We ordered dumplings, green beans, orange chicken with rice. A little pricier than expected however they can be shared with 2-3 people for sure! The star of the dinner was definitely their green beans!!! Couldn't stop eating them on the other hand, their sour chicken was nothing extraordinary. Sauce was okay. Chicken to breading ratio was kinda ridiculous. Felt like it was breading and sauce for a lot of the bites and for the price I would expect a bit more. Rice was rice. No complaints. Dumplings were another win though! So 2/4 not bad. The way the put it to go was also really convenient lol. I enjoyed not having yet another plastic bag with just styrofoam boxes.

    Mapo Tofu

They changed the mapo tofu recipe. It used to be a darker red with real Sichuan peppercorns, giving that delicious numbing spicy flavor. This is my mapo tofu from yesterday, which had a little bit of spice but not as good as when I had it a year ago. Just more salty with a little bit of spice. Very disappointing that I'll have to try to find a new mapo tofu place. Pluses though: good and affordable lunch specials for about $10 a plate (rice, soup, egg roll, and an entree) but unfortunately I will not go back.

    Pork Dumplings in Spicy Sauce

I've reviewed this gem before, but wanted to repeat how much I love one of their appetizers that I'll even come in and have as a meal! The Pork Dumplings in Spice Sauce... jumbo pillows of tender dough stuffed with a lovely ground pork. No mild by any means, the chili flakes, sesame oil, soy and whatever else inside brings a perfect ying/yang of flavors and textures, I cut them in half as I eat them so the pork inside is flooded with the spicy sauce. A generous portion of eight comes in an order. I can eat 6 then take home the sauce and extra dumplings as a treat for later. You can also get chicken filling but I love the pork! I love these pillows of happiness!

    D49. Orange Chicken

First time ordering here. Picked up three separate orders. Two of them were orange chicken lunch specials. It was underwhelming.. the chicken barely had any sauce. (Compare my orange chicken to the other pictures on here...) so disappointing as people rave about the orange chicken here. Would not recommend take out and if you do check that there's actual sauce and not just breaded fried chicken.

This place has been officially added to my favorite restaurants. I had a friend visiting from Chongqing so we came to check this place out and everything was delicious and authentic. We did get dandan noodles but forgot to get a picture. That and the green beans, I'd say is authentic but more so as an overall Chinese dish whereas the mapotofu and chicken are more Szechuan. Highly recommend if you are in area or wanting to try some Szechuan spice.

Hunan beef lunch special with spring roll and white rice
    bernie m.

Had a really good lunch here today. It's been awhile since I've had orange chicken so decided on it. The lunch special also comes with soup, a spring roll, and choice of white or fried rice. The spring roll was piping hot, crispy and delicious. It was my first time trying sweet and sour soup and I really liked the flavor. Wifey had the vegetable soup and she said it was really good and very fresh. The orange chicken was very tasty, actually better than I expected. Wife had their Hunan beef lunch special. She wasn't crazy about, said it just tasted like soy sauce. I had a bite and I didn't care for it either. I think the lunch specials are a great deal here. The food comes out piping hot and tastes fresh.

I was hoping for our dishes to be more flavorful and have more elements to them. It was orange chicken and white rice in my daughter's dish and a slew of sautéed onions with beef and white rice in my meal. On both meals, there wasn't a lot of flavor, almost as if they ran out of seasoning on both dishes that were totally different. There was no ambience in this open dining hall with no decor or vibe and there was an extreme language barrier with both servers. Unfortunately, I wouldn't make the trip out again.

In the area and trying to decide what to have for lunch and found this Chinese restaurant on Yelp of course:) We went during lunch last week around noon. The lunch specials looked good so I decided on Kung Pao Shrimp, $9.95. It came with a choice of vegetable or sweet and sour soup, white or fried rice and an egg roll. It has been forever since I've had sweet and sour soup and it hit the spot! The egg roll was really tasty and satisfying. The kung pao shrimp was good, and tasted fresh. If I had to be picky, it was a bit too saucy and I should've gotten white rice instead of the fried rice as it was just coated with soy sauce. Service was very prompt and friendly and I'd definitely return when I'm in the area again.

I said yeah, (I mean it was obvious since I was at the window) and I kid you not... he goes Well you better get in line. And sure enough, he shoved his way in front of me to order. So bizarre cuz there was only 1 other guy behind him. I guess he had no manners and needed to be first! Just a super off the wall crowd piled up all around waiting on their food. Another car pulled up to park with his music blasting so loud that the bass was vibrating his car, the sidewalk. It was all terrible. I only stayed because it had such good reviews and another lady told me it was awesome. It's basically a hole in the wall but actually it's a window in the wall. It's a brick bldg w a small window that you talk and order thru. The staff was nice to me and clarified whether I wanted fries w my jalapeño's wings, which I did not, so she saved me $4 bucks. I ordered the #5, all chicken but it had so much breading and very little chicken. Some of the chicken was really stiff like either grissel or just dried out. The number 5 is orange chicken and sweet n sour chicken. With lo mein noodles and friend rice. $22.99.... if you just get 1 entree, it's $20...so might as well try 2 choices. I've got a super bad stomachache from eating about 6 pieces of chicken and 2 spoons of rice. I also got the jalapeño's wings due to the reviews. They are actually excellent and greasy jalapeño's flavor and chicken cooked well. 2 stars for wings but -2 for the heavily breaded other chicken entrees w barely any chicken. At home, I pulled all the breading off and it's really pathetic that it's 7/8 breading and 1/8 chicken. I didn't see any non fried / breaded chicken and it didn't seem like a good idea to order pork or shrimp from here. I'm sorry I didn't see the review recommendation for hot spicy chicken and I didn't see it on the menu. But it's a full big page menu. I basically wanted to choose from combo so I could get rice and noodles. I will agree that it's big portions of all of it. I'm basically going to eat the rice and noodles w my own chicken cutlet for work lunches. And I'll give the chicken out of the breading to the stray cats. I waited 50 minutes for my order, which was fine with me cuz I'm aware it's popular. But dang, it's a wild place.

The jjampong had that great umami taste without the oiliness that's unavoidable at other restaurants. The ingredients felt very premium and fresh. Alas when I got home and saw what I had, I was disappointed. It's faster to make it this way but the egg hockey puck had no taste - zero. The noodles were indeed crispy but they was such a meager portion compared to the beansprouts. The fried rice was pretty basic but also a generous portion and the two tempura shrimp had a nice crispy batter.
