We've been coming here for years now, so I thought I'd finally leave a review! The food here is excellent, and there are so many options to choose from. My go-to is the Tom Yum soup! They're also serving fun cocktails now, which I got to try tonight, and it was delicious! Definitely recommend checking this place out.
Chanpen was great. We came for lunch, but on a weekend so there was no lunch special. I can say now I have been to both locations! Yay! The restaurant here, is bigger than the one in Phoenix and the decor is also much more thai style. That's not a bad thing at all. We were greeted and seated right away. We ordered pad see ew, Tom Kha soup, fried rice, pad thai, and panaang curry. Everything was delicious. The only criticism was the soup. I'm pretty sure the soup I got, was not the soup I ordered. But I still ate it. The gave us each a small scoop of orange sherbet after our meal. It was delightful and refreshing.
Came back for lunch and everything was absolutely delicious. We especially loved the seafood coconut tom kha soup. it was so flavorful and comforting. The lunch specials are such a great deal, very affordable and definitely worth it. I also really appreciate that they still include complimentary soup and ice cream scoop afterward. Service is always quick and efficient.
We discovered this place a while back as we were passing through Tempe & wanting some Thai for take out.. this place had great reviews so of course give it a try! Well we loved it & every time passing through that'd be our spot to grab our Thai take out... except after this last visit we'll now be driving right by it! Sunday afternoon we were in the mood for Thai but this time we made a special trip because it's been almost a year since we've been here & we missed it! I walked in to place my order around 4 in the afternoon & there were only a couple of tables of diners, they had new menus... switched from the black menus to white menus plus the prices went up!! Now I'm hoping that's all that's changed, oh please! Once we got home as I've unpackaged the food I just couldn't believe my eyes! For what I just spent & the food they gave me I was beyond unsatisfied! The fried rice was gummy in texture with hardly any bean sprouts & zero green onions or peas, $15 REALLY.... All they gave me was rice, chicken, egg & then they sprinkled in some bean sprouts, thank you so kind! I ordered the mixed vegetable stir fry with chicken added for $19, are you joking is all I could say when I looked at it! Oh my I felt like I was just completely ripped off, out of all the veggies they gave me 1 piece of bok choy & endless bamboo shoot, a couple of pieces of broccoli, tons of carrot & a few corn... are you kidding me people! Yes we're all feeling grocery store prices but give me my share of what I'm paying for, come on! My husband just opened his box of wings, he sighed then said forget it let's just eat... we'll find another Thai restaurant. On that note I couldn't agree more, very disappointed!
What an absolutely delicious treat. My friend introduced me to his favorite Thai restaurant in town and it did not disappoint! We shared fresh shrimp appetizers, the coconut soup level 1 spice, Drunken Noodles low spice, and Thai toast and everything was exceptional. Everything was great, the Drunken Noodles were delicious, I might have wanted a few extra noodles but no complaints! Flavor was wonderful. The Thai toast tasted a bit like deep fried mozzarella sticks so I probably wouldn't get that again but it was fun to try. I appreciate the low spice levels. The only suggestion I would have is that noise travels very fast inside so to ask louder parties to keep their voices down a little bit if possible and to be mindful not to drag chairs has it made it a little harder to enjoy a peaceful meal but the food more than made up for the noise :-)
First time eating in at Chanpen but we have ordered delivery many times. We arrived at 12:45 on a Wednesday and it was 3/4 full. We were cheerfully greeted and seated right away. After reading all of the wonderful reviews, I decided to add the fried wontons to our regular order of Larb, Yellow Curry Chicken and Pad Thai. Our server quickly brought us cucumber water and cabbage soup. She then took our order and it arrived in about 10 mins. In all, it came to $50.59 plus tip. The ambiance inside Chanpen was a mix: Thai decor, very subtle Thai music but not enough to drown out the conversations, black and tan booths with very hard benches. It wasn't unappealing, just different. The Wontons that came were better than I expected. They were fried to a gentle crisp, so still a little chewy. They were savory, with a chicken mix and no cream cheese. I loved them. The Larb was disappointing because she thought I said beef salad, not beef Larb. The salad itself was okay, just not what we wanted. The Curry was very standard curry, with large chunks of potato, creamy coconut milk and sliced chicken. The Pad Thai was good except, even though the menu stated it came with four shrimps, it only had one. We were also served a small scoop of tangerine sorbet, which cleansed our palettes just right. I had been curious about the prices, since they seemed rather low. It was because they were lunch specials and were half-portions. All-in-all, it was a decent meal but with a couple of execution flaws. I'll be back.
We have been here many times for lunch, but we recently got a take-out for the first time. It was very good food and everything was solid, flavorful Thai food. The Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles were fantastic, the crispy chicken was not at all crispy,but still good, and the spring rolls (shrimp rolls) were ok. I would recommend this restaurant, it is a nice, authentic, family-run restaurant and worth supporting.
This is one of the most authentic Thai restaurants in the Valley. The food is consistently delicious, full of flavor, and clearly made with care. Every dish we've tried has been amazing, and they always deliver the perfect balance of flavors and spice. The menu covers everything from soups and appetizers to entrées and desserts, and honestly, it's hard to go wrong. We've probably ordered about 75 percent of the menu at this point, and every single dish has been a hit. The service is great, and the space is large enough to comfortably accommodate bigger groups, which is a huge plus. We actually drive from the East Valley just to eat here because not many Thai restaurants live up to this level of quality and authenticity. The atmosphere is quiet, relaxed, and enjoyable perfect for both a casual dinner or bringing someone who really loves authentic Thai food. You can confidently take a Thai food fanatic or someone looking for a truly authentic experience here, knowing they'll leave happy.
Very solid Thai food place with an upgraded ambience to its sister. It's spacious with cozy seating and servers were nice. I love the generous portions and flavor here. The fried wontons are filled with chicken and are an addicting appetizer. I got the noodle soup which had a strong, flavorful broth and plenty of rice noodles to fill my cravings. I would get this dish again and again. We also got the pad Thai and sweet and sour chicken, again, all very solid. Not pictured, we also got the Thai tea last minute and this was the only thing that was okay and could probably pass on. I literally crave the dishes here and can't wait to try more items on their menu.

Start with fried wonton (these have chicken) , then Red curry with combo meat (Beef, Chicken & pork) #5 hot & Stir fried teriyaki beef. A special place owned by special people, authentic thai food made by thai owners. They have a large menu with some interesting finds I haven't seen anywhere else. Location is in a small strip mall in Tempe with plenty of parking. We went twice on our trip to AZ and it was full of people at 6pm and there was even a surprising amount of people at 3:30 pm. Ka-Ree Puff appetizer: Homemade thai pastry stuffed with curry powder, chicken and potato served with cucumber sauce. Delicious with light flaky crust and savory inside. Khi Mao Pasta: Unique twist on Drunken Noodles, they use squid ink pasta tossed with light and dark soy sauce, oyster sauce and fish sauce. Comes with bell peppers, shrimp, large squid rings, and thai basil. Gai Pad Krapow: My friend recommended this and I'm glad we tried it. It's ground chicken, thai basil, spices that's been stir fried and then topped with 2 eggs. Very good over white rice with a very unique spice mixture I haven't tasted before.
Ordered takeout from here and had the tom yum soup and the Thai wings. I did the spicy number 2 and it was quite spicy. I am glad I didn't do the medium. But the taste was really good. I added tomato quarters and ginger as I was feeling under the weather and it truly hit the spot. I also added the chicken for protein and it was a bit dry and tasteless but the soup and the veggies and herbs made the broth very good. Definitely is a top tom yum soup for me. Also for the price its very reasonable, although I do wish the price included rice. It did not. It was separate. The wings were okay. Also a bit small and not as sauced as I would have liked. But the taste was really good. It was like a soy garlic flavor. For about 11 bucks it just didn't seem worth the price for 6 small wings. Overall it was really good soup, quite hearty with the mushrooms which is a good sign and a good flavor. I'd definitely come back and order here again.

Great food great service great prices! You get a scoop of ice cream when finished with food which I loved. Things to note some food is very spicy which I loved. So those who don't want spicy food needs to be aware of what they ask for. Any item with a pepper by it can only be made with spice. read more

This is my favorite thai place in all of arizona. My friends and I go here very often. I have tried a couple of their menu items and loved every meal. I have tried their curry dishes, noodles, and soups. Today I got their chicken and shrimp pad thai and it was so delicious. You can tell that everything is made out of fresh ingredients. The pad thai was sweet and sour from the lemon which balanced it perfectly. Service was very quick and effficient. There are a bunch of tables to sit at. Definitely worth every bang for your buck. Parking is easy. read more
Spacious! Friendly service and good food. Green papaya salad was great and aa well as the drunken noodles (had the lunch special). Price was reasonable. I have visited the Broadway location - will have to visit both a few times to determine whether they are comparable. read more

I walked into a nicely decorated store with a pleasant vibe. The lady at the counter was so kind and gentle, it persuaded me to stay in and dine in instead of doing a carry out. My pa nang curry was rich and full of flavors. My attention was captivated until the last grain of rice. read more

If you do not come here you are missing out. A few years ago, my friend who is from Thailand made me come here because he said it was the best place in Arizona that can actually compare to Thailand food and he was right. I went to Thailand in April and it is exactly like food in Thailand. SO DELICIOUS AND AUTHENTIC. The service is always fast and the restaurant vibes itself are very stylish and trendy !!! The food was fresh and steaming hot. Flavors were perfect and the spicy level was on par for what I asked. I picked a spice level 2 (1-5 scale) since it was our first time and I could definitely taste the heat but was not overwhelmed either. The service was friendly and quick but they did not bother you while dining. The restaurant is cute with authentic touches. I appreciated the cucumber water - kept in the cooler until we arrived so it was cool and refreshing and not just plain ice water. read more

We came here after visiting Arizona Mills. We got seated right away on a Thursday night for a party of 5. Workers were friendly and it was a nice Thai restaurant. The food was pretty average in terms of taste and presentation. The price was decent as well. Location was good if you're exploring Tempe and staying in the area. read more
I've been coming here since 2017, and it has been one of my favourite places to go. For lunch, they'll serve you a small bowl of soup, and for dinner, you get a scoop of ice cream! Service has always been great here; I've never waited a long time for my food, and the waitresses have always been attentive. The restaurant is cozy, and it's always a good time there. I've tried sooo much of their food now, and I think the pineapple fried rice, pad Thai, and Penang curry are all my favourites. I recommend this restaurant for family, friends, and date night. The spice level is pretty mild; I can't really handle spice, and I think I could comfortably do a 3-4. read more

**an all around amazing Thai spot** -delicious food -great prices ($30 for two dishes) -lovely staff and restaurant set up This place is very family friendly and has a bathroom! They are very attentive and quick. One unique thing is their water: HUGE mason jars and a cucumber instead of a lime ! The water lasted me throughout the whole meal AND stayed cold. We got a spice level of 3/5 for both dishes and it was not overly spicy at all. Just enough to give it flavor. We both think we could handle the 4 comfortably. The Thai tea was also spectacular - sweet enough yet still a pronounced tea aftertaste. Definitely a must try for your first time there. read more

This is an amazing Thai restaurant. The service is amazing. The people are very awesome. I've eaten Thai food all over the country. I enjoy fresh Thai food wherever I go this is a hidden gym amongst the Tempe area. I highly suggest you try it level. Four spice is borderline level three is safer. Everything was perfect. The Patty is awesome. Drunken noodle amazing the eggplant to die for. read more

I took my daughter here and the area was a little sketch. We decided to go in and I immediately noticed what looked like a bullet hole in the window. The food looked and smelled good, my daughter and I both had fried rice, my daughter ate hers no problem I unfortunately found a long black hair in my food. Safe to say I'm not going here again. read more

I recently took my team for lunch at Chanpen Thai Cuisine and everyone enjoyed their food. I arrived first and was quickly seated by the waiter. While I was waiting, he brought soup for the table, which I thought was kind of odd as it probably would have been best to wait until everyone arrived. That being said, the complementary soup was a delicious start to the meal. It's a broth based soup with cabbage, so it's light enough not to ruin your appetite. My group arrived in waves and the waitstaff were very attentive. We all opted for different entrees, I personally selected the Garlic Sauce with Shrimp. For my spice level, I went with a 3 as I had read reviews that their levels are spicier than most. I definitely could have bumped up to at least a 4 as 3 had a little spice, but was pretty mild. Although the spice was mild, the flavor was not! This dish had a delicious garlic sauce and the option was very generous. After our meal we were all served a complementary scoop of orange sorbet, which was a nice surprise! I've never had that at a Thai restaurant, but it was a perfect way to end the meal. Overall this is a great spot and definitely worth checking out! read more

Visiting Arizona for the summer and missed Seattle's Thai restaurants. Arizona isn't really known for any Asian cuisine but this restaurant made me feel right back at home. I had the Thai iced tea which was perfect. I also had the Chicken fried rice and cashew chicken. Both were surprisingly delicious. I would come back here again if i ever missed being back at home. Would really recommend to others about this place. Not mention, Complimentary ice cream! read more

Randomly stumbled upon this place a while ago, but now every-time we are in in the area it is hard to stay away! Haven't had a single bad thing on the menu, the avocado curry is creamy, smooth, and unlike anything I've ever had elsewhere! It also has a spice gauge which I'd say is pretty accurate, normally I get around a 3 or a 4. The last time we were there our food took a while as a huge table was sat before us. We didn't even mind the wait as we knew it would be worth, however out of curtesy they offered us free shrimp spring rolls which was such a nice gesture you don't always see these days. They also follow up every meal with free desert, sherbet! Friendly staff and while it could maybe be a little neater inside it is definitely sanitary. In summary "yum yum!" read more
