Decent for Americanized Thai food, though not great compared to what we have in Los Angeles. We ordered the pad kee now, the spring rolls, and the green curry. The seasoning on the pad kee mow was not memorable. The wrapper on the spring roll was way too thick. You felt like you were eating a dumpling. The only thing that was good out of the three was the green curry, though the rice was clumpy.

My husband has passed this restaurant every year when he is in town for the National Racquetball tournament. He says there is always a line out the door. Granted the business is quaint, but that still tells you something. So made it in just in time. Only a few spots open for seating. There were a lot of pick up orders while we were there. We ordered the appetizer egg rolls, crab rangoon's. For dinner we ordered the combo fried rice, drunken noodles with chicken and pad prik king with chicken. I wanted to order the mango sticky rice, but the server mentioned that the frozen mango's weren't quite thawed. They were using frozen since it's really not quite the season for mangos. So she gave us complimentary fried bananas (wrapped like egg rolls) with vanilla ice cream. This restaurant heat scale is 1-5, and our rule for new places that we try we always go low. We went with a 2 for both the drunken noodles and pad prik king. My dish was fine but the drunken noodle was more spicy. The flavors were very good though. The fried rice was perfecto. I ordered a Thai Iced tea and that was perfect too. You can call me a Thai Iced tea snob. The dessert is not my favorite (I'm not a fan of cooked bananas of any kind, so far), but husband enjoyed it. I do appreciate that the server offered a kind gesture in place of the mango sticky rice, points for that! The service was excellent and the vibe of the entire staff fantastic. The place is cozy and decor fits the culture and it looks like some vintage pics. Private parking for the business. There might be street parking on the very busy street. I would most definitely return here.

OMG. Fantastic service, food, just amazing. Small place, so you may have to wait in line to get food. Appetizers we had were great. I didn't have the pork dumplings but those who did, loved them. The egg rolls were tasty, and the sauce was the killer as in good. Mains We went family style here. Pineapple fried rice - big win, enjoyed. They went light spice. Yellow Curry - sauce fantastic, the second person went full combo with shrimp, chicken, beef and loved it. I tried the sauce definitely different but food. Medium spice. Eggplant with chicken - wonderful sauce, eggplant done right, light spice. Drunken Noodles with Tofu - I went medium spice but it showed up spicier than that. It's sad because the tofu was solid and the noodles were done correctly. But at the spice level, hot was intolerable. I loved they had the chopsticks right there. Pricing is really good. Place doesn't look great from the outside, but after eating, best Thai I've had in Phoenix

Finally! Authentic Thai food in Phoenix! Well I finally found it, lol. Its a small place (really small). Maybe 5 tables in the place. From the outside it looks like an old one story house needing to be fixed up that was turned into a restaurant. Green papaya salad - great! Garlic chicken wings appetizer - great (ordered a second one to go - that good!) - Drunken noodles - great! Yellow curry chicken - great! Service was exceptional! Got there 30 minutes before others in my party of 3 (well 2 - 1 couldn't make it). The host advised to sit at a table as the place gets packed. So, I enjoyed appetizers and papaya salad while I waited. Friendly and attentive service! I will be back. By the way - clean bathroom with plenty of soap.

Sometimes the best meals aren't found behind flashy signage or trendy interiors--they're tucked into quiet corners of the neighborhood, waiting for the curious. This local Thai hole-in-the-wall near my house is a perfect reminder of why it pays to wander off the beaten path. At first glance, I didn't think much of it. But after a 20-minute wait for a seat, the reason quickly became clear. Inside, the restaurant is tiny--just four booths and one small table, seating no more than 18 guests total. Tight quarters, yes, but cozy and inviting, the kind of place where the aroma of simmering sauces tells you you're in the right spot. The menu was surprisingly expansive, featuring many dishes I hadn't yet experienced. Each item was clearly described, with ingredients listed in English--welcoming both seasoned Thai-food lovers and adventurous newcomers. Service was friendly, fast, and attentive. The tap water deserves its own mention: ice-cold, crisp, and constantly refilled. Skip the canned sodas and go straight for it. We ordered the sweet and sour chicken, shrimp fried rice, shrimp chow mein, and a few appetizers. The flavors were clean and satisfying--nothing overcomplicated, just well-executed comfort food with depth. Portions leaned on the smaller side, especially for the price, but the quality made up for it... mostly. The space itself was clean and comfortable, right down to the restroom--which, while very small, earned a respectable B on the Luis Scale for cleanliness. No fountain drinks here, but they do offer tea and other options if water isn't your thing. The bill came in just shy of $100 for four adults--pricey considering portion size--but then came dessert: orange sherbet nestled atop a warm fried banana. That final bite made everything feel worth it. Would I return? Maybe. But more importantly, it reminded me why local, hole-in-the-wall eateries deserve a chance. Step outside the norm, take a seat where space is tight but flavors are big, and don't forget to tip your servers. On to the next adventure.

12 years later. Still delicious. Still amazing. Location is small, but they were busy with to go orders. Stuck with my potstickers, masamun curry with chicken, and Thai iced coffee. And as always, delicious as ever.

Great food as always!! The pad Thai and shrimp spring rolls were on point. Very small place but great staff!

This was my second visit to Chanpen Thai Cuisine, and once again, the food was excellent. Authentic Thai flavors and a great variety on the menu. We ordered the Shrimp Papaya Salad, Stuffed Wings, Chicken Pad Thai (a bit on the sweet side but still good), Drunken Noodles, Duck Mango Red Curry, Crab Fried Rice, Basil Lamb (better than expected!), and Karee Puff -- a Thai-style empanada filled with chicken. Everything was flavorful and well-prepared. The prices are very reasonable, and the service was friendly. A fun bonus -- their water is infused with cucumber and incredibly refreshing. I honestly think this might be the best water I've had at any Asian restaurant! Overall, I'd rank Chanpen Thai in my top 5 Thai restaurants in the Phoenix area. Highly recommended!

Very friendly service and they have a great lunch special. The place is pretty small and so is the parking lot, but they had me in and out pretty quickly. As I was sitting and eating they had a lot of to go orders being ordered and picked up. I've had the pad thai and the sweet and sour chicken and both were great but the sweet and sour is my favorite. The chicken is so nice and crispy. I'm excited to come back and try more items in the future.

Parking: Small free lot with street parking available. This is a small restaurant. It has about five booths and a small bistro table. As someone who has been to Thailand, it felt like I was transported back to Bangkok. It was definitely warm inside. I ordered crab rangoon (appetizer), chicken wings (appetizer), green curry, pad see ew, and pad thai. The crab rangoon did not have much filling, and the chicken wings were fried and then covered in sweet Thai chili sauce. The green curry was savory; it had string beans, bamboo, carrots, and I added pork. It was great and something I would order again. The pad see ew and pad thai were both very standard but good. The pad thai was on the sweeter side, but I enjoyed the restaurant and the experience. All of it was good but not amazing. I definitely encourage going here if you want an authentic experience.

You know what, let's update this review! I can't believe how long it's been since I've dined here, years. This is an excellent spot for Thai cuisine and one of my favorites in the valley. I would visit more but it's a bit too far and I don't find myself in this area often. However it was a special occasion yesterday and we were celebrating a birthday, so we made plans to eat here. We arrived around noon and the place was rightfully packed, considering there are just seven (7) tables/booths. Several people came in and picked up their to-go orders, which makes sense since this place is small. We didn't have to wait long and the fabulous waitress took our orders while we were waiting for a table to open up. Once a party left, we got a booth and our food arrived shortly after. I ordered the shrimp spring rolls which come with a hoisin peanut sauce and they were refreshing and tasty as expected. We were served complimentary cabbage soup which didn't appeal much to me but I will not complain about free food! For my entree, I ordered the vegetarian pad Thai from their lunch menu, which came with tofu and veggies, as well as wonton chips and a fried spring roll. It was good and the spice level was spot on (4/5). Service was quick, efficient and friendly! I ordered two dishes and a drink to go and they were prepared in a reasonable time. They were also packaged well which I appreciated as the bag tipped over during my drive home. I got to try their Thai tea and it was yummy, I love that they made it with no ice and didn't charge extra for it - only $3.95. I took leftovers home to enjoy the next day and they were delicious. Looking forward to coming back, hopefully not years later!

Very good prices and decent portions. I got the pad thai in spice level 4 & I think it was a nice touch of spice. I think for spice lovers maybe 5 may be a better choice. The chicken satay was really yummy and flavorful, would get that one again. The fried rice I feel like had some sort of seasoning that reminded me of fish so that one I liked less. Overall though it was a good meal & I would definitely come back. Service was pretty quick and I was able to get seating for two in 15 minutes despite it being relatively small inside. I came here on a Sunday around 5pm.

I was very impressed by this little "hole in the wall" Thai place. The guy working was extremely nice, despite being crazy busy with the lunch rush. I almost couldn't find a spot in the lot to run in and pick up my curry. The vegetarian curry with tofu was great, and I'll definitely be back.

Ask the Community - Chanpen Thai Cuisine

Hi, do they serve beer or wine?

Maybe beer, no wine but I've never seen anybody drinking any.

    How is the parking?

They have a small parking lot. The dining area itself is fairly small. I believe it has around 7 to 10 tables. The few times I've eaten here I've always sat down but the time I'm eating and waiting people are coming in and out grabbing to go orders.

The staff here are so kind it really made the experience of having to wait a bit so much better! The gentleman at the front door recommended a wine bar around the corner to wait at after we got on the list, which was a cute divey spot. The food was delicious, we loved the papaya salad so much, there were so many flavors of spicy and tangy, and the papaya itself was very refreshing. We had the Pad kee mao and Panang curry which were also delicious. For the chicken pad kee mao we requested it to be gluten free and they gave us the same rice noodles as the Pad Thai and a slightly different sauce which was so darn good! The chicken was very tender. When the Panang curry said it came with beef, I didn't know what to think but after a single bite I was a huge fan! So many flavors hit you at once and the beef was so incredible, it was falling part. I also ordered the savory cocktail option (I can't remember the name) which had cucumber vodka, fish sauce, mint, onion, and some other goodies, and wow! It changed my life. Highly highly recommend. Overall would definitely come back here, we were a walk in on a Saturday night and had an hour and a half wait to get in.

As a proud Yelp Elite, I decided to give this place a chance because the reviews were the best I saw in the city! The place was busy on a Sunday night and it is small but I never say customers waiting too long. There were two larger parties seated so the food took some time but nothing outrageous. We started with the calamari, spring rolls, and crab wontons. The calamari were the biggest I've ever seen and very delicious! Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the spring rolls or crab wontons. I feel like those are hard to get wrong but I was not a fan of the cream cheese that was used and it was a lot of it, barely any imitation crab. For entrees, I had the spicy basil and substituted ground chicken for chicken breast, my personal preference. I ordered level 2 spice but it was still a bit spicy for me. Trying a new Thai place is always hit or miss with spice levels so I actually thought I was being safe with 2. Additionally, the chicken was so bland. Some Thai places season their chicken, some do not and unfortunately Pad Thai Cafe missed that mark. My partner ordered the short rib curry dish and my goodness, it smelled like heaven and tasted just as good. I don't eat beef but had to taste it and it was divine! He also ordered spice level 2 and his dish was not as spicy as mine. Overall, the rest of the party enjoyed their food and there were good flavors there so I'd definitely recommend the entrees, not so much the starters.
