Drunken noodles mixed with eggplant with garlic.
Stephanie N.

Omg this place is awesome some of the best Thai I've had. I'm keeping the name so I can come back and recommend to others.

The food is SO good. We were a party of 4 and had several dishes. Everything was very tasty. The service was just as good. Super friendly and attentive.

Yellow Curry, Tum Yum Seafood Hot, Thai tea
Carla T.

The service here was definitely the highlight very friendly and attentive, so no complaints there. The food, however, fell a bit short for me. I ordered the Tom Yum, and unfortunately it tasted like the seafood had just been thawed and added straight into a watered-down broth. It was missing that classic lemongrass punch, savory depth, and spicy balance Tom Yum is known for. The soup also had a noticeably sweet taste, which is unusual for this dish, and there were no clams something I'm used to seeing in a good Tom Yum. The spice level was perfect since I asked for it "hot," but the broth itself lacked flavor, and the seafood tasted very clearly frozen. The curry was tasty, but definitely on the sweeter side almost too sweet. On a brighter note, the Thai iced tea was delicious. It had that classic sweet, creamy flavor Thai tea is known for, and you could taste all the layers. I genuinely enjoyed that part of the meal. Overall, the food looked great visually, but the flavors didn't quite match the presentation. Hoping they can improve the dishes, because the service really was wonderful.

Mango Sweet Purple Sticky Rice

This was not worth what I paid. I got drunken noodles with beef and mango sticky rice for desert. The service was fast- but the trade off that the food felt half cooked. The mango sticky rice was not good. I had 2 bites of it and couldn't force myself to eat the rest. The drunken noodles was okay, again noodles weren't cooked really.

My friends and I decided to order take out lunch from here, since one of them comes here frequently and enjoys it! Our food was ready within the specified time, and was still warm when we got back to work (a 20 minute drive at least). The people working were all very polite and helpful. I would definitely come back here based off of how nice these people were. It didn't seem like there was a huge lunch rush when I arrived to pick up around 1245p. Plenty of tables available and a very clean looking dining room. I ordered the pad Thai and it was great! The portion size was also pretty generous, enough for 2 meals. I look forward to coming back and trying some other popular dishes.

First time at this location and was not disappointed. Saturday evening dinner for two. We had a curry noodle dish with pork and orange chicken. Food was good. Service was good. All good here.

Thai Fried Rice (chicken)

Food was pretty decent, I just got the chicken fried rice, which is super simple and hard to mess up. The fried rice was fine, but it didn't have that much flavor. I definitely wouldn't write home about this place, but I may have to try it again sometime.

Arizona's locals and visitors love this place. Highly recommended for fresh tasty delicious Thai food l, drinks, and friendly staff.

comfy and COOL interior to enjoy my delicious meal

I'm completely satisfied! Staying at a nearby hotel and even though I felt like I was roasting alive on the 110 degree very short walk over, I still wanted something a little spicy. After discussing options with the VERY kind waiter (Kevin) I decided on the eggplant/med spice with chicken and it was perfection! Even though I forgot to say I preferred brown rice the white was graciously swapped out. I can't wait to come back!

Garlic Eggplant (Pad Ma Kua)

I was in Phoenix for a few days for a business trip and was excited to try the different restaurants out in Phoenix! My group and I decided we were feeling Thai and tried out Thai Basil to satisfy that craving! Although we were not able to place a reservation, the restaurant was able to accommodate our rather large group without much wait. It was fairly busy inside, given it was a weekday night. The menu has a good variety of different options for a variety of palettes, but I personally tried the garlic eggplant and the pad thai, both with chicken and medium spicy. For the garlic eggplant, it was good, but nothing particularly stood out. I like to try this dish at different Thai restaurants to compare, so this was middle of the road for me. I always love sautéed eggplant though! The rice was served warm and fluffy, and the eggplant was soaked in that delicious basil sauce. Meanwhile, the pad thai was probably my favorite part of the night. It was surprisingly much spicier than the garlic eggplant, even though both were ordered at medium spicy levels. So, that's definitely something to be aware of in case you can't eat spicy. I find that there's much more variety in pad thai dishes across restaurants, but the way this dish was prepared was very much to my liking. The noodles were coated with flavor, but not too wet and not too dry (the leftovers, however, did become dry so I would try to eat on the night of!). I also really recommend adding at least some spice to it because it really gives it an extra kick. Someone in our group had an allergy to nuts, but they were still able to eat because the restaurant successfully ensured that his dish did not get contaminated with any peanuts! Overall, I was satisfied with my experience at Thai Basil and would come again if I was in the area!

The space itself is small, but the interior is surprisingly aesthetic and cozy, which makes it feel intentional rather than cramped. I usually gravitate toward the green curry, which hits that perfect balance of creamy, aromatic, and spicy without overpowering everything else on the plate. The flavors are bold but still refined, and nothing tastes muddy. The tom yum is another standout for me. It's bright, tangy, and comforting all at once, with layers of flavor that really pop. Even the side dishes shine. I'm a big fan of the chicken wings and skewers. They're seasoned well, cooked perfectly, and never feel like an afterthought. What really elevates the experience is how balanced yet distinctive everything tastes. Each dish stands out on its own, but the overall flavor profile feels cohesive. Service is always attentive, and the staff is consistently smiling and welcoming, which makes the wait feel easier. I also love that it's BYOB. It makes it super easy to enjoy a relaxed night, especially when I'm just snacking on appetizers with my own drinks. Sala Thai is a gem.

Honestly, truly: the whole menu is so well-executed so you can't go wrong. But if you want some good recommendations, don't skip the fried chicken wings, or the eggplant appy. The pad Thai is great. The somtum is good. Order the curry. The drinks are your typical sweet Thai drinks, but a Singha goes better with most Thai dishes anyway. The true charm of this restaurant is its staff as they are genuinely friendly, and very welcoming. Don't plan on walking in. As a matter of fact plan on going 1-2 weeks ahead so call in and make a reservation, then clear out your schedule.

The ambience is super comfortable, easy, casual. But, it's *super* loud, like really, really loud. The 4 of us had to literally scream, top of our lungs, to hear each other, and these aren't big tables, it's tight in there, so you're very close together. We left with sore throats from yelling. It felt like "a relief" when we stepped out front. After 2 hours sitting in the wooden seats, my butt was also relieved to be getting up. Parking is ridiculous, it's a very thin one way driveway with *no way to turn around* when you reach the end - back it up! Super tiny parking lot. Food: the food was very good. We ordered 6-8 things for the 4 of us because all items are pretty small. Top section of the menu are called smaller items. They were. Items on the bottom section are bigger, but not big. For perspective, when the 4 of us split an item from the bottom "entree section" we each got 2-3 bites/forks-full. So a full entree for one person is 8-12 bites. All items tasted very good, clearly high quality, well curated and definitely unique to this restaurant. The steamed white rice was hot, steamy, moist and sticky, really good. The Panang Chicken was really good, different, creamy, dark, rich and smokey. I added pictures of the menu, inside, patio, bar and a few food items so you can see for yourself. Would I go back? I would because the service was great, visual atmosphere was comfortable, and food was high quality, but turning the music volume down at least 1/2 way from what we had would go a long way,... a looooong way, seriously. Increasing the portion size of menu entrees would also be an improvement since they're about the same price as larger portions elsewhere. And throw some cushions on those inside wooden benches, our butts will thank you. Overall this was a good first visit and I'd try Glai Baan again, hoping for the same great service, quality food and updates to the other items.

Looking at nearby Thai restaurants, we ventured to Tempe to give our second option a try only to find them closed for the holiday. I see Smile wasn't too far from where we were at so we decided to give them a go. Why not try something new in the new year? We were greeted as soon as we walked in, the host/server was welcoming and provided great service the entire time. We ordered their Thai tea, crab wontons and spring rolls for our drinks and appetizers. They were crispy fried and so delicious. The appetizers come with a standard sweet chili dipping sauce. For my entree I ordered their chicken bbq with a side of fried rice. My friend ordered chicken red curry. For dessert, we ordered their Thai custard sticky rice and the mango sticky rice. Wow! All I can say is, what a great experience! We were so impressed with the food that I think this is our new spot. We'll tell our friends and family to give this restaurant a try.

SENTRY - WATCHING RESTAURANTS…read more Smile Thai Cuisine 2107 S. Rural Road Tempe, 85282 I last visited this restaurant more than 10 years ago, so it was time for a new review. Upon entering I immediately noticed that the inside has totally changed. The entrance seems to be filled with a bar and a cash register and the tables have moved to the side. We started off with an appetizer of chicken satay. Long thin strips of chicken threaded onto skewers and served with a peanut sauce. It was a tasty dish though a bit difficult to get off the wooden skewers. For companions main course, ordered was pork cashew nuts. The dish had a melange of vegetables in a chile/garlic sauce. Companion enjoyed it be was unable to finish the dish because the portion was large. I ordered duck curry. I asked for it to be spicy, but unfortunately it was anything but that. The sauce was thin and without body and had an assortment of veggies in it along with some duck. At the bottom of the bowl I found a leg of duck. The dish was served with white rice which I promptly added to the sauce in an attempt to soak up some of it, but alas, it was to no avail. For drinks, we both ordered Thai Tea, which was properly made. It is served in tall jars, and neither of us could drink it all. If you have real Thai food that is Thai hot, Thai Tea will get rid of the heat on your palate in less than a minute. Cleanliness is a bit of a question, as our table had some old food encrusted on the edge. 3 Stars
