Thai Basil, how I have missed you! I was a little hesitant after all these years if the food was still amazing and it is still amazing!! I was having some trouble ordering online, so I decided to go there and order in person. I was warmly greeted and given a menu. I decided on the pad broccoli. It is simple, just broccoli, onions, and carrots in oyster sauce; but it had tons of flavor. I absolutely loved the oyster sauce, I wish that there was a little bit more of it, but it was good the way it was as well. The medium spice was just enough and popped well with the vegetables. Again there could have been more broccoli, but still that did not stop the pad broccoli from being an amazing dish!! I will be back for this and for the Thai Basil!
When you go to ASU or work there, you get used to a lot of "regular" restaurants in the area. I've been working at ASU for a long time, and for many of these years, Thai Basil was right near my office. I have enjoyed the consistent tasty food and service from Thai Basil over the years (even if the prices have increased). While I no longer work right near there, I happened to be nearby and enjoyed a delicious meal with two colleagues and got my "usual" meal. While there are certainly many dishes that can be ordered from the menu, most customers simply choose their protein (chicken, pork, beef, vegetables, tofu, shrimp, or seafood), the spiciness (no spicy, mild, medium, hot, or Thai hot), and then the dish itself. For me, I choose the Thai Fried Rice with Chicken (fried rice with garlic, egg, green peas, carrots, broccoli, cabbage, and onions), which comes with a cup of soup and mini vegetable egg roll. While I used to have to wait until ordering before the soup arrived, nowadays, the soup arrives even before we place the order. I guess all dishes come with the soup (which is a good first course). I've clearly been coming for a while as all of the $11.95 dishes used to be $7.95 when I first started going. Then again, it's even more if you order online. Speaking of online, you can get five percent off all orders placed on the website (https://orderthaibasilruralrd.com). You can also order delivery through the website, which I have yet to try. There is a lot of other helpful information on the website including the hours, which are daily from 11 AM to 10 PM. It's nice it is open that late as the students probably go across the street and enjoy some Thai for late evening dinner (which I personally stick with lunch there). As a restaurant with good food, good service, and usually a reasonable wait time once food is ordered, I recommend this Thai Basil restaurant to anyone in the area of ASU Tempe, especially near Apache and Rural.
This place was a last minute lunch decision and I'm so glad I found it! I was sat immediately, and given a complementary cup of soup. I ordered the green curry lunch plate and it came with rice and an eggroll. The curry was amazing! I asked for medium heat and it was perfect! My server was great, she was very attentive to me, and my order came out very quickly. It is a nice clean restaurant and I will definitely be back again! The parking is a little bit limited right now because there is some roadwork in front of the restaurant, but it is worth the trouble to find a spot.
Dinner pickup to satisfy a Thai craving! The Yellow Chicken Curry & Tom Kha Soup were done medium spicy which was the perfect amount of heat! Service was friendly & efficient at pickup. Definitely worth a try!
The restaurant had a very welcoming vibe with nice thai decorations. The server was friendly and attentive. My fiancé and I ordered the beef salad, bbq chicken, shrimp and tofu pad thai. The beef salad was very flavorful with a large serving amount of beef. The bbq chicken was. delicious with the sauce. The pad thai was a little on the bitter side. The pad thai was not my favorite dish but everything else was delicious.
Not happy to give this place a poor review. I love Thai food and know what it's supposed to taste like. The only good thing is food is prepared quickly. But the way they've cut corners on their dishes has unfortunately really, really impacted the quality of their food. Drunken noodle - Taste was so off. I noticed color looked a little weird, thought nothing of it. But I couldn't taste the palm sugar or oyster sauce or anything that usually goes into pad kee mao. Noodles had been overcooked and no longer chewy, only disintegrated in your mouth with an unpleasant texture. Veggies cut poorly (chunky), seemed more appropriate for a stir fry. Because of this, some of them were cooked unevenly. Not a good order. Mango sticky rice - it's hard to mess this up, but this could also be improved. Mango was nice, but this was the blandest mango sticky rice I've ever had. I'm pretty sure they only used coconut milk to top the rice, and maybe cooked the glutinous rice with some minor sweetener. Mango was nice and ripe but I feel the rest of the dish was lacking in support. Just a really disappointing experience with Thai Basil here. To me, this is another symptom of a restaurant located in a college town. There are many other thai places in the area that I'll explore instead.

Though it was a bit pricey (I paid just a little over $15), the portion size was massive and the flavor was good, though very mild. The service was very nice and they would check up on us very frequently.

The soup, if you choose mild, is very mild. The broth is very southing, something I'd like if I were sick. There is a healthy bit of vegetables... mushrooms, cabbage, baby corn, zucchini, carrots, and broccoli. The soup by itself doesn't need the noodles and is very filling.
I work about a 5-minute walk from Thai Basil, so my coworkers and I frequent this restaurant for takeout. I love Thai Basil's curry! I prefer green curry, but the yellow curry (pictured) is also excellent. Both the curry flavor and consistency are spot-on with a generous portion. I enjoy the pad see ew and pad thai as both have rich flavors. However, in general I find the vegetables to be a bit too crunchy/undercooked.

Some dishes are more expensive and as a college student, I'm always looking for the biggest bang for my buck. It's best to get takeout from Thai Basil, you will get so much more food. It's a 5/5 for takeout and the dishes i mentioned but of course I have to take the atmosphere into consideration. The restaurant is quite dim and service can be slower if you do order at a busy time. The staff is extremely sweet though and would always love to offer suggestions.
Best location I have tried so far! I put in a pick up order and it was ready when I arrived about 15 minutes later. The food was still hot when I got home about 25 minutes later! I ordered pad Thai, pad see ew, spring rolls and red curry. The pad Thai is the best! I ordered it with chicken and it was delicious. The portion was so large that I only finished half of it. The pad see ew was ordered with tofu for my sister and she enjoyed it! The red curry was ordered with chicken and my boyfriend loved it. It came with white rice. The spring rolls were tasty with the sweet and sour dipping sauce. They gave us some extra spring rolls I'm pretty sure! And lots of extra dipping sauces. That was a lovely surprise! Love this place!

Absolutely loved my experience at Thai Basil. The staff was very welcoming. I felt right at home. The atmosphere was the conversational. Not too loud. But not too silent either. Excellent place to eat with a small group of friends. The food was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. I ordered the drunken noodle with shrimp and it had the perfect balance of spice and savory flavor. The shrimp were cooked really well too. The potstickers were delicious and had a great crunch, and the crispy sweet potatoes were such a nice touch and incredibly tasty. Everything came out hot and fresh, and the overall experience was great. Definitely looking forward to coming back! read more

Ordered pad thai, it was really bad. $20 and tasteless, go to the other pad thai down the street. Ordered beef and was given a 80% tofu -20% beef mix. Was tasteless, really disappointed. Called the restaurant and they did nothing to help. Huge waste of money. read more

Today I brought a friend for lunch. I ordered a vegetable drunkard with the most delicious vegetable fried rice. I just ate red curry last week, so I have to bring my friends more often. The service was excellent, especially Jenny. She was really good at serving . read more

The food here is great. I love pretty much anything I get. The only food I haven't got from here is the yellow curry and the red curry. I was told that the yellow and red curry taste like the green curry. I usually get the green curry. The spice level varies with what item you get. The curries tend to be more spicy than the noodle or rice dish even if I ask for the same level. So, a medium curry is spicier than a medium pad Thai. I also like the red chili sauce that comes in the container. The red chili sauce just adds something good to the meal. During lunch the place can get really crowded. I am not sure if this restaurant is a chain or not. There are other locations called the same thing in other parts of the valley. I will have to try the other flavors of curry eventually to see if they taste different. I know they have different vegetables added. The Thai ice tea here is also tasty. The parking lot can get crowded easily during lunch and dinner. read more

Super delicious Thai food! Weeknight around 8:45 pm and they were still pretty busy! We were seated right away and given menus. They have quite a selection of dishes, so narrowing down to what we wanted was hard. We ended up getting a papaya salad, (medium spice) a chicken pad Thai, (medium spice) crispy spring rolls, and a Thai tea. The server was friendly from the start and she kept our water cups filled. We were seated in the back cozy area and there were other patrons there as well. We received our spring rolls hot and crispy, and they were really good. Not too long after, our food. Everything was piping smokin hot. Literally smokinnnn. The pad Thai was delicious! It was loaded with tofu and chicken. The papaya salad was something else. I had never tried a papaya salad so I was amazed when I took my took my first forkful. It was amazing! So different but sooo good! Definitely recommend. The Thai tea was perfect and not too sweet. Food was great and so was the service. They are very popular with take out orders! Definitely will be back. read more

In my personal opinion, this is a restaurant worth recommending, located to the right of ASU, which is very convenient for me to visit regularly. Additionally, there is a parking lot on the right side of the restaurant, making it more convenient for those with cars. The first meal I had after coming to the United States was at this restaurant and that meal left a deep impression on me. The menu offers a diverse selection, and this time I ordered the Green Curry and Crystal Noodle. The curry has a slight spiciness, but it also has a hint of sweetness that I find acceptable. The Crystal Noodle has a very good flavor, with the noodles being very soft and slightly salty. Overall, I really enjoy their dishes. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant is also very nice, with comfortable seating and very friendly staff. I have been there many times, and the overall experience has been excellent. read more

WOW. The panang sweet curry is DELICIOUS it's actually amazing. Definitely recommend. They need to add more chicken, but other than that you should order it cause I'm dying over how good it is!!! read more

(5/9/20, Quarantine-era review) There are two Thai Basils (that I know of) in Tempe, and they are mere blocks from one another. I wonder what the meaning of this business paradigm is, and more specifically, why the one closer to my apartment opens *later* than its farther sibling. No matter; both serve fantastic Thai food, and we got to enjoy some to kick off the afternoon slump! Having largely phased out noodles from my diet (hold your seats, folks, it's not forever), I was excited to enjoy an old favorite: pad see ew. The girlfriend and I haven't ordered pad-anythings in a long time, so we thought we'd get a feast going: an appetizer of satay and two chicken pad see ews to-go. | Satay | Wrapped in shiny foil were four -- that's right -- four skewers of delicious satay served with a side of peanut sauce. As with any impaled fare, the dipping does get harder as you go along, but you've really got to savor each bite with the sauce! Lest it not be abundantly clear at this point, we are big fans of peanut sauce. | Egg Rolls | Surprise! I did not expect to find two dainty egg rolls with our order. They are of course available on the menu (bigger ones, I'd imagine, and for a price), but this appeared to be a charming, complimentary gesture that we surely did not refuse. They were served with two small cups of sweet and sour sauce. All the more build-up for our main course... | Chicken Pad See Ew | Holy portions! Thai Basil does not provide nutritional information, so I've got no clue how to gauge my calories and macros for this bounty. Suffice it to say...it's a lot. Expect to be full from this generously-packed container of thick noodles that bite back, shredded chicken, scrambled eggs, some carrots, and a little spice (the spiciness level is up to you). The GF had to save some for later; while zapping leftovers is never the same, it did leave our kitchen smelling marvelous. As for me, though it was a bit of a chore, no pad see ew was left uneaten. | Verdict | Well done, Thai Basil. I've been here a few times now, but these are my first remarks on the place. I fondly recall one day, after experiencing a bad day concerning my GI health (you do the math), I called upon Thai Basil to nourish me with a dish of rice, ginger, and tofu. An Asian man's variation of alternative medicine? You'd best believe it. And, to an extent, it worked! So, dear friends, pay these good people a visit. Try the pad-all-of-the-above, some appetizers, fried rice, whatever you fancy. Grab a Thai ice tea to wash down your feast. They may not be open yet for dine-in service, but when they are, we will definitely be back. 'Til then! read more
