The Don Quixote is my all time favorite and I sub shrimp instead of chicken. It's always so flavorful and they are never stingy with the ingredients. It's always so clean in here and I like the variety of options. The staff always seem to be in a great mood which is refreshing to see. I like watching them make my salad from the glass. I have been to the location downtown, for lunch a few times, but have mostly visited the Tempe location for a quick dinner option, a few times a month. I have ordered grain bowls, salads, and their mac bowls, and have not been disappointed. I really like their choice of salad dressings, quite a few are vegan and gluten free. I get a few different dressings on the side for lunch salads for the week. My favorites are the Creamy Ginger, Cilantro Chili Lime, Chipotle Caesar, and their Honey Mustard. After checking out the menu I went with the Don Quixote Salad, it had a bed of mixed greens, southwestern chicken, mango, roasted corn, avocado, jack cheese with a creamy ginger dressing. The combinations of these favors were delish. This was a great tasting salad. I've only had Mad Greens once before but I remember it being a good experience! Although the salad was pricier ($10 regular, $11 big), I was willing to pay it because the chicken was really good unlike my favorite salad place. Last night I decided to order a Southwest bowl thinking it'd be a healthier Chipotle style bowl. We ordered online and the only customizations I made were asking for the dressing on the side and for an extra dressing. Upon picking it up, it was neatly packaged; the container has a spot for the dressing built in! My extra dressing was also included, for no additional charge. As soon as I opened it however, I was confused. There was NO chicken to be found. I looked at my receipt to see if I had accidentally omitted the chicken; I had not. I essentially had a bowl of wild rice with 6-7 scarce pieces of spinach for $10.95. Not pleased, especially when I chose to order from Mad Greens because their chicken is so good. Bf ordered a big Ty Cobb salad for $11.40 and his chicken was scarce that he could barely spare any for me. If you're looking for a Chipotle style bowl/rice/protein bowl, skip Mad Greens; there are cheaper, better options. I would never never give a zero star unless it was warranted.. let's start with the service.. I can't eat bacon and I told the lady who was taking the order I wanted no bacon no onions, she proceeded to tell me that the guy making the salad would be able to customize it as it is a service salad bar.. when I was done paying... He was already making my salad and guess what? there was a bunch of bacon and onion in it.. he had already started making the salad before I could make any modifications.. he looked so mad that I couldn't even tell him to make a new one.. Friendly greeting and helpful staff even though I wandered in just before Closing. I modified the Cobb salad a bit and it was Very Crisp, very fresh tasting and a generous portion for reasonable price. The unsweetened iced tea (Hibiscus?) was delightful. Tip: Ask for dressing on the side, I think "Light/Medium/Heavy" is a pretty personal definition and asking a stranger to guess exactly how many glops of dressing meets the definition is Tough. We have been to this spot a few times now, and one of my favorite salads to order is their "Crazy Ivan." The husband loves and usually opts for the Cobb Salad if available. I love the Mad Spice they have! Not too spicy, but pretty flavorful. I always request the "spiced" toppings if possible. The toddler requested mac and cheese, and it looked well put together, just not your typical run of the mill mac and cheese kid's experience; they have a unique / fresh take on it, and hey, if that's not your thing, that's totally okay. Their soda selection is nice - they have some different options to choose from that you usually don't see anywhere else i.e. cola with cane sugar, and etc. Their food quality is pretty good and the spot for this location is pretty convenient. Got the large, and it lasted me for two meals, as it's so filling (800 cal for the whole bowl). Prices are a bit high, as this is what you'd pay in NYC, but I guess it makes sense if it's in a popular marketplace. Service was patient when I just couldn't make up my mind (they have so many preset options!). Also tried their Green Detox drink and it was not sweet at all, which I liked. It's nice to see more healthy options popping up & I hadn't tried this one before. There are PLENTY of options on the menu, plus the opportunity to create your own, custom salad bowl. The bowls may look a little "small" for the price, but they're packed pretty full! I ordered the GF Southwest salad & was pleasantly surprised with the flavor. However, the body of the salad needs adjusting. I didn't get much for greens, once it was fully mixed. Bulk of the bowl was rice, almost overkill. There were only a few small pieces of chicken & the remaining ingredients were a bit sparse. I'd say 2/3 was mostly rice. But the dressing options when ordering for delivery are great! You can choose between light, medium & extra- or on the side. I went with medium & it was perfect, carried most of the flavor & surprisingly was not at all soggy having ordered via Doordash! The portion was plenty- probably enough for two to split because I couldn't get through half of it for one meal. Well worth the price. The side of hummus & pita was a half miss. They don't skimp on the hummus with two healthy scoops... but it was probably the least favorite hummus I've ever had. Can't put my finger on it but it doesn't taste like traditional hummus. A thicker, grainy paste with a heavy starch-like presence. I didn't care much for it. Both the flavor & texture were off. But the pita bread is good. It was better to bypass the hummus & just eat the pita w/ the salad. Curious, I ordered the caramels. Just the "2 pack". Which I found the price at nearly $4 for two incredibly steep when they're the same size you could get a package of 20 individually wrapped from the grocery store or any other entity. The flavor & consistency was really good, but not gourmet or anything to write home about. Not sure why they're so inflated but I don't think they're worth it. I honestly would rate this a 3.5 star. This Mad Greens is located in the food area of Tempe Marketplace. It is definitely one of the more healthy options, albeit not the least expensive. The decor is a little dark, but open and clean. We were greeted quickly and helped by two people behind the counter. I ordered the Vibrant Venus and my friend had the 'make your own salad.' We also wanted to try the hummus trio so we ordered it for $5.75. Overall this was too much food, but it was fun to try. I also splurged and purchased one of their fresh juices- a freshly made strawberry juice- really good, but $6.85! We both enjoyed our salads quite a bit. On vacation we tried a lot of new places. This is the one place I wish I had at home. There is nothing like this in Sacramento. The best was the hummus sampler only $5ish, comes with avocado, garlic and a red pepper served with warm pita. So good the avocado was my favorite it's a little spicy! The veggies in my salad looked and tasted fresh and there is a huge amount of toppings to choose from. The only thing I can't recommend is the dressing, I usually don't use it.
