I was hoping for better. Sandwich shops are many, but I like a decent sandwich. $20 for a half sandwich combo with drink. Oh I thought that was extremely expensive but the combo happens to be soup. Okay so I got the clam chowder. And what sounded like a delightful sandwich. Soup came in a bread bowl and I don't understand the purpose of the bread bowl. Maybe a half a cup to a cup of soup and a big wad of flavorless bread I don't understand its purpose... Maybe a bite of the bread and throw it away. The sandwich was a smokehouse on a focaccia was probably not over an inch thick. It sounded great but there was so little on it all I could taste was the mustard sauce. $20 it's too much to pay for a dinky sandwich and soup. Sorry, I won't make that mistake again. First time trying Dilly's and I was pleasantly surprised. It's hard to find a decent sandwich shop, so far we haven't had much luck. Staff were very friendly and the place was busy during lunch time so usually that says plenty. The Reuben was tasty, definitely not the best that I've had but I would get it again. The cheese wasn't melted enough and I asked for an extra side of thousand island dressing, so they didn't put any on the sandwich. Just little things that weren't done right. I tried it on their focaccia bread. Loved the rosemary flavor and it was a lot thicker and softer than your usual focaccia. I prefer the more dense and crunchy kind but that's just a personal preference. Their restroom was clean but when you open the door to the back, it smells foul. The sandwich was exactly what I wanted but it was a little lean with meat and I definitely didn't get the extra cranberry I requested. The Wisconsin cheese soup was amazing. The perfect consistency with great flavor. The inside of the bread bowl was soft and doughy and the bread pieces dipped in the soup was comforting. The best part was when I was finished the inside of the bowl had soaked up that soup and was a pleasant soggy mess. Oh so good. I'd definitely order from here again when in the Tempe area. They were quick to bring us our food, but brought my friend the wrong soup, which they were nice and quick to remedy. The cost for both of us to get half a sandwich, a bowl of soup, and a drink each was over 40$ with tip and tax. While the food was very good, the total was about the same as going to a sit down restaurant and getting a full meal. If you've got the money to spend it's a tasty spot for sure though, personally I'm not sure the price is justifiable. read more

We used to LOVE DD! Went in on Saturday to order a couple sandwiches to go. We live about 15 min away. I asked for no red onions multiple times when ordering. Got home and opened it up, ready to devour it, and immediately smelled red onions. Gross! Dilly's is in a strip mall that can easily be missed if you're not looking for it. When you walk in, there is plenty of seating with a few tables outside as well. As you scan the menu that you can see they have classic sandwiches and signature sandwiches. They also have meals available where you can do a full or half sandwich with a soup or salad. Their soup choices are Cream of broccoli, Cream of potato, Wisconsin cheese, Boston clam powder, creamy, chicken noodle and tomato bisque. The cream of broccoli was delicious. I also enjoyed some potato salad with my sandwich. I ordered the Dilly Bird which consisted of turkey, avocado, cream cheese, with sprouts and mayo. And not just *any* sandwich spot. My girl Lizzo donated Dilly's Deli sandwiches to our hardworking healthcare workers earlier this year and that's enough reason for me to support this place! That and I had just had some dental work done across the street at Dr. Reidhead's. I got myself a Potato Soup and a Chicken Salad Sandwich with lettuce, sprouts, cucumber, and avocados in it. Everything tasted amazing! That homemade chicken salad was insanely refreshing. I enjoyed the dill and the bites of celery in it. As for the soup, it was warm and comforting. I topped it off with some cheddar from the fridge and it was delicious. Fabulous sandwiches and soups. One of my favorite places when I was at ASU, and if I recall correctly they were one of the better delivery options in the area. The Gobbler is my favorite sandwich here, and I love the bread bowl for all of the soups! I particularly like the Wisconsin cheddar and the clam chowder here.
