I'll admit that on that Saturday that I came across Don Guerra, I had originally went to another bagel shop that was sold out of bagels two hours before closing. I was disappointed as that place wasn't nearby. But this place, Don Guerra Bagel & Slice, is so close to home that I'm embarrassed to admit I should have came here sooner. - Slice Potato & Onion Pizza Combo ($11.00 - Olive oil, sea salt, mozzarella and parmesan cheese, red onion, potato, rosemary, honey drizzle. Option of salad, chips, or wheatberry salad): We got this with the wheatberry salad and a 20 oz cold brew to wash it down with. As someone who loves a good potato pizza, this one right here... oh my gosh. It even beats another place's potato pizza from a local cidery that I truly love. Get this. GET IT. - Jalapeño bagel with lox cream cheese ($6.00 - 85% whole grain sonoran wheat flour, sourdough leavened and no added sugars or oils): I heard the lox cream cheese was really good with the rosemary and salt bagel by one of the staff members but I couldn't pass up a good jalapeño bagel. And honestly, this bagel was perfection. Had I been in a skirt, it would have flipped over how good it was. - 6 Pack of Jalapeño Bagels ($18.50 - 85% whole grain sonoran wheat flour, sourdough leavened and no added sugars or oils): The bagel I got was so good, I had to order more for the week. I enjoyed the heck out of these for the next few days. - Chiltepin Cream Cheese ($6.50): As soon as I saw "chiltepin," I was sold. A Chiltepin or Bird Pepper, is a wild, hot pepper native to the Americas, often considered the ancestor of cultivated peppers. It's a perennial shrub with small, white flowers and tiny, red, very spicy berries that are dispersed by birds, and it thrives in warm, sunny conditions with well-draining soil. My grandma and parents use to grow them and I didn't realize how good I had it until I tried looking for my own chiltepin plant to grow. I can't find any so I guess I'll just have to come here for some cream cheese. - Chocolate Cherry Loaf ($12.00 - Only sold on Saturday and Sunday): Yum yum YUM!!! There's another local bakery in town that makes a chocolate cherry loaf but it's seasonal to Valentine's Day. Here at Don Guerra's Barrio Bagel & Slice, you can get it all year-long during the weekends. GET IT! - Sourdough Starter ($0.00 - FREE!): I was not a sourdough girlie during the pandemic but I've always been curious. Will this survive? We'll see. They have a helpful laminated sheet that teached you how to take care of your starter. Make sure you take a picture of it if you're attempting to start it. Although Don Guerra's namesake would imply they specialize in bagels, I would say they excel in their bread making rather than their bagels and breakfast sandwiches. My partner and I got a few different breads to try out: half a dozen bagels, two different sandwiches on different breads, and their bread samples they had out. I was incredibly impressed with the bread quality overall. I can see why many of the customers before us only came in to buy loaves of bread for the week. As for the bagels, I'm incredibly picky coming from the northeast. The everything bagel is pretty sparse with toppings and what toppings it did have was mostly just poppy seeds. There was such a teeny tiny amount of garlic and onion! The actual quality of the bagel was good, but I'm a little sad about the topping situation. Not only that, there was a very hard pebble or grain bit (?) in my bagel. I'm not sure if it was in the bagel itself or somehow mixed into the topping, but it did not seem edible as it couldn't break down at all. I hope this was just a one time mistake! As for the sandwiches, the breakfast panini's best part was actually their focaccia. The rest of the sandwich components were okay. The beef slider is much smaller than the focaccia slices, the steamed egg easily falls out, and the chipotle aioli gets lost amongst the other components. I probably wouldn't get the panini again, but would happily buy the focaccia only. The Italian sandwich was a bit better. We got it on the torta roll, which was also very good. It's hard to go wrong with a classic italian sandwich. It does get a bit salty with all of the components combined, but could be offset with the combo with a drink. The samples they had out the day we visited were of two different sourdough breads. This was some good sourdough! It was very pleasantly tangy, but not too much. There was also a very good crumb and crust. The building is designed to be more of a fast casual and pickup kind of spot. There's shaded seating outdoors where you can also wait while your order is getting ready. They also offer online ordering and drive thru pickup. Although I wasn't as wowed by their bagels and breakfast offerings, the actual quality of their bread was so good that I would solely recommend their breads alone. read more

I made it here early enough to her into the drive-thru without anyone else. I was craving a bagel and waa glad to see they have a good variety. I had a Rosemary Sea Salt Bagel with Lox Cream Cheese. I do wish they had actual lox slices, but the lady said they don't have that, just flavored cream cheeses. I also would have liked my bagel slightly toasted but I guess you have to request it that way. The bagel was really good. I do like that they stuff the bagel with the cream cheese. Finally made it here! What a cute and delicious spot. I'm not sure what this building was before but its perfect - lots of parking (with shade!), a drive through, and a nice patio with misters. Heads up, there is NO indoor seating, just enough space to order. Staff was so friendly and brought my food out to me. I got the Cuban and a salted Sonoran chocolate chip cookie. There's nothing as heavenly as the smell of fresh out of the oven baked bread, pastries and bagels!!! We recently picked up a delicious sourdough loaf and chocolate roll and it was oh so wonderful! The people here are so nice and helpful. We have tried a number of their offerings - breads, bagels, and cookies. My husband brought home some of the sourdough starter - but that's a whole different story (it's like trying to take care of a toddler!). It's a small store with outdoor seating. Quick easy drive thru. I ordered a breakfast bagel with a rosemary sea salt bagel and lox cream cheese. I looooved the smell of the rosemary when I opened my bagel and they added the right amount of sea salt, not too chunky either. It was a good amount of egg and cream cheese in it. I do think they could add more bacon, it was thin and only 1 slice. I also love the lox cream cheese, good amount of smoked salmon it. The Cuban torta on a torta roll is a must. Give it a try, you won't regret it! Ordering is simple - just walk in (might feel strange since Sonic used to occupy the building, but trust me, you can go inside), and place your order at the counter, or you can go through the drive thru. Once your order is ready, they bring it out to your table and during my visit, the service was good/staff was nice. Also tried the breakfast bagel sandwich and that was pretty original. Although it was good, it'll be a pass next time. Lots of options to choose from tho, so during your next carb craving, give Don Guerra a try! New bread and cool spot alert for Gilbert/Mesa area! I've always known this spot was near my office, but didn't realize they took over the old sonic here. Oh a whim, I wanted to get something new for lunch, so I downloaded their app and placed my lunch order for pick up. They have so many delicious options from breakfast, to lunch combos, to pizza, to just loaves of bread. My order: Chicken BLT on a rosemary salt bagel with an oatmeal apricot cookie, and a side salad. I also ordered the Berry White cold brew for additional $2 in their combo section. I went over to pick-up for lunch and decided to stay since they have outdoor seating with misters (very much needed in our 100 degree summers!) They also have curb-side pick up AND a drive-thru. My lunch was delicious - the chicken blt was soo good, especially on the bagel. It was so soft and not overly chewy. As a coffee-girlie, I can confidently say their coffee is DANG good. We stopped by on a Saturday for lunch and it wasn't too busy when ordering inside. Both registers were open so we were helped right away. My sister ordered the breakfast bagel sandwich (B2), I ordered the Chicken BLT with a side salad, and my friend had the pepperoni slice combo. We sat outside and watched as the drive thru was non stop busy. Waited about 20 minutes and our orders started coming out one by one. My chicken blt sandwich was really good. It was flavorful and hot. My sister didn't care for her breakfast sandwich as she said it had no flavor and it was very messy. My friends pepperoni slice came out lukewarm and tasted old. Had a busy day ahead, so my husband and I swung by Barrio Bagel & Slice in Gilbert and wow, what a great find! They have a really nice variety of bagel flavors, and you can fully customize your breakfast sandwich. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The cream cheese has this perfect tang, and the bagel itself tasted like it had been steamed rather than toasted, which gave it a soft, chewy texture we loved. Stopped in today for lunch and had the club sandwich on focaccia and my boyfriend had the Italian sandwich on focaccia. Both sandwiches were delicious and we each had the wheatberry salad and really liked that too -- definitely a unique salad, I haven't had anything like it before. I think I may have liked the Italian more than my club sandwich, but I'm a sucker for anything with pesto on it. I recently got into making sourdough bread so I was really excited to try this place out and taste their bread and I definitely wasn't disappointed. Came in today after a long hard day of work in this summer heat. Looked on google for nearby places for lunch and came across this place. So glad I stopped by wish I took a better picture of this sando. I ordered the L2 lunch combo on the menu. Words can't describe my first experience. As soon as I walked in and saw the employees hand making the break in the back I already knew what ever I was gonna order the bread was gonna be on point. The best way I can describe how I felt with the first bite of my sandwich is when Jake the dog (from ADVENTURE TIME; best show ever!!) was done making his perfect sandwich. If you don't know what I'm talking about then I'm sorry you've been living under a rock haha. Just YouTube "Jake the dog perfect sandwhich" and you'll understand what I mean. After I was done with my L2 combo, mind you I took my time with this one, I found myself tearing up from how good it was. The sandwich was on point and was a great combo with the cold brew I had. After i was done with my meal it brought a tear to my eye from the goodness I just had that I had to download the yelp app and leave a good review and to my surprise I seen a couple bad reviews. I read a couple of them and I am glad this place is still around for me to be able to give it a try. My order was out in a timely manner and food was at a good temperature. They had me at "award winning bread". Was very excited when I learned that this place was right near my work's home base. Had to drop stuff off there today so I took it as an opportunity try Barrio! I went through the drive thru. There was no line, just a few people ordering inside. They took my order right away and just took about 5 min or so for it to be ready. I LOVE foccacia and Sicilian style pizza so I got 2 slices, potato and onion, and verde with pesto, feta, tomatoes, and olives (I removed the olives, don't like them!). My total was $15, which seemed like a lot, but the slices are large. Crust was fluffy inside, crisp outside. Toppings were fresh and flavorful. The potato one maybe had a bit too much rosemary, but otherwise super good. Totally want to come again and get coffee and a bagel! read more

I asked for the everything bagel, but just after devouring the bagel, I thought, humm, I ordered the everything bagel with cream cheese and got the plain bagel with cream cheese. It's okay. The bagels were good and I appreciated that there was good coverage of "seasonings" around the whole bagel rather than just the top. Unfortunately what takes this place down a notch (or a few) is the service, and when you're paying $6/bagel, you hope for good service. For being drive-through/up we waited a long time for our food. And even then, our order was wrong (the receipt was correct but when we got home our breakfast sandwich was missing). Additionally, they don't serve the whole menu all day and that fact isn't on their website or menu, or clearly found anywhere. We were excited to try the pizza and sandwiches but only after trying to place our order were we informed that only breakfast was being served. Went here on a Saturday morning for a fresh bagel sandwich and it did not disappoint! The service was quick and they were very helpful explaining the options for their bagel sandwiches. Waited only about 5 minutes for my sandwich to come out and it was perfect. Bagel had a great outer crust with a soft and chewy inside. I do wish the sandwich had a little more of the chipotle aoli but other than that it was great! Workers came out while I waited for my food and asked if I wanted any coffee while I waited (I declined but was very nice) and the owner came around the patio to ask everyone how their food and drinks were. I hosted a breakfast networking event at this location and it was overwhelming raved by first and repeat Barrio fans. We went to Don Guerra's bagels a few weeks from grand opening and going to give them some relief on my review since it's still fairly new. We were very excited for this place to open because it was just a few minutes from our home. We were following this place on social media and had high hopes, but had a bit of an odd experience. We ordered on site and in person vs advance or drive thru. They have an app but I don't think we got rewards for our order cuz the staff member seemed to be new to figure out the register and everything. We didn't get our drinks initially and we had to go inside to get our food and status even though they gave us a number for our order. They also forgot our drinks, and we had to request that too, even for just a hot coffee. It wasn't very clear on the ordering process- if we waited inside or if food would be delivered to our seat. Having been an old sonic the space was a bit weird and seating was kind of packed in the shaded seating area, which is all outdoors. Our bagel sandwich's were extremely salty with the everything bagel, maybe would try a plain one next time. My husband had the beef slider breakfast bagel and the meat was very dry and unseasoned.
