I've been here twice now. The ingredients are so very fresh and you can tell all of the baked goods are made with great care. The most recent time, I had a sesame bagel with the chiltepin cream cheese. I loved that the bagel had sesame seeds on both sides! The cream cheese was the perfect consistency and the perfect balance of spice. Their chocolate chip bread is also dynamite! Service is great - you go in and order, then they bring your items to your table. We enjoyed the fans under the awning. There are plenty of seats and everything is clean. Option of salad, chips, or wheatberry salad): We got this with the wheatberry salad and a 20 oz cold brew to wash it down with. As someone who loves a good potato pizza, this one right here... oh my gosh. It even beats another place's potato pizza from a local cidery that I truly love. Get this. GET IT. - Jalapeño bagel with lox cream cheese ($6.00 - 85% whole grain sonoran wheat flour, sourdough leavened and no added sugars or oils): I heard the lox cream cheese was really good with the rosemary and salt bagel by one of the staff members but I couldn't pass up a good jalapeño bagel. And honestly, this bagel was perfection. Had I been in a skirt, it would have flipped over how good it was. - 6 Pack of Jalapeño Bagels ($18.50 - 85% whole grain sonoran wheat flour, sourdough leavened and no added sugars or oils): The bagel I got was so good, I had to order more for the week. I enjoyed the heck out of these for the next few days. - Chiltepin Cream Cheese ($6.50): As soon as I saw "chiltepin," I was sold. A Chiltepin or Bird Pepper, is a wild, hot pepper native to the Americas, often considered the ancestor of cultivated peppers. It's a perennial shrub with small, white flowers and tiny, red, very spicy berries that are dispersed by birds, and it thrives in warm, sunny conditions with well-draining soil. My grandma and parents use to grow them and I didn't realize how good I had it until I tried looking for my own chiltepin plant to grow. I can't find any so I guess I'll just have to come here for some cream cheese. - Chocolate Cherry Loaf ($12.00 - Only sold on Saturday and Sunday): Yum yum YUM!!! There's another local bakery in town that makes a chocolate cherry loaf but it's seasonal to Valentine's Day. Here at Don Guerra's Barrio Bagel & Slice, you can get it all year-long during the weekends. GET IT! - Sourdough Starter ($0.00 - FREE!): I was not a sourdough girlie during the pandemic but I've always been curious. Will this survive? We'll see. Although Don Guerra's namesake would imply they specialize in bagels, I would say they excel in their bread making rather than their bagels and breakfast sandwiches. My partner and I got a few different breads to try out: half a dozen bagels, two different sandwiches on different breads, and their bread samples they had out. I was incredibly impressed with the bread quality overall. I can see why many of the customers before us only came in to buy loaves of bread for the week. As for the bagels, I'm incredibly picky coming from the northeast. The everything bagel is pretty sparse with toppings and what toppings it did have was mostly just poppy seeds. There was such a teeny tiny amount of garlic and onion! The actual quality of the bagel was good, but I'm a little sad about the topping situation. Not only that, there was a very hard pebble or grain bit (?) in my bagel. I'm not sure if it was in the bagel itself or somehow mixed into the topping, but it did not seem edible as it couldn't break down at all. I hope this was just a one time mistake! As for the sandwiches, the breakfast panini's best part was actually their focaccia. The rest of the sandwich components were okay. The beef slider is much smaller than the focaccia slices, the steamed egg easily falls out, and the chipotle aioli gets lost amongst the other components. I probably wouldn't get the panini again, but would happily buy the focaccia only. The Italian sandwich was a bit better. We got it on the torta roll, which was also very good. It's hard to go wrong with a classic italian sandwich. It does get a bit salty with all of the components combined, but could be offset with the combo with a drink. The samples they had out the day we visited were of two different sourdough breads. This was some good sourdough! It was very pleasantly tangy, but not too much. There was also a very good crumb and crust. The building is designed to be more of a fast casual and pickup kind of spot. There's shaded seating outdoors where you can also wait while your order is getting ready. They also offer online ordering and drive thru pickup. Although I wasn't as wowed by their bagels and breakfast offerings, the actual quality of their bread was so good that I would solely recommend their breads alone. read more

I made it here early enough to her into the drive-thru without anyone else. I was craving a bagel and waa glad to see they have a good variety. I had a Rosemary Sea Salt Bagel with Lox Cream Cheese. I do wish they had actual lox slices, but the lady said they don't have that, just flavored cream cheeses. I also would have liked my bagel slightly toasted but I guess you have to request it that way. The bagel was really good. I do like that they stuff the bagel with the cream cheese. Finally made it here! What a cute and delicious spot. I'm not sure what this building was before but its perfect - lots of parking (with shade!), a drive through, and a nice patio with misters. Heads up, there is NO indoor seating, just enough space to order. Staff was so friendly and brought my food out to me. I got the Cuban and a salted Sonoran chocolate chip cookie. After a good friend's recommendation, I just had to check out Don Guerra's. I'm sure glad I did! Driving up to this place might be a bit confusing. You might think, "Wait, is this Sonic??" But as soon as you step out of your car, it's not grease and fast food french fries that you smell, but warm, freshly baked sourdough bread. I swear I stood at the counter forever, trying to decide what to buy from all the delicious options: focaccia, bagels, flat breads, loaves, cookies. How is a girl to decide?! Despite my long bout of indecision, the staff remained kind, patient, and helpful. I ultimately went with a variety bag of bagels (2 of each flavor: rosemary-sea salt, everything, and plain), as well as a free container of starter to bake my own sourdough bread at home! The bagels are BIG, and a pack of 6 costs $12. I also tried some samples of the Sonoran and rye sourdough breads, which were perfection. Quick easy drive thru. I ordered a breakfast bagel with a rosemary sea salt bagel and lox cream cheese. I looooved the smell of the rosemary when I opened my bagel and they added the right amount of sea salt, not too chunky either. It was a good amount of egg and cream cheese in it. I do think they could add more bacon, it was thin and only 1 slice. I also love the lox cream cheese, good amount of smoked salmon it. The Cuban torta on a torta roll is a must. Give it a try, you won't regret it! Ordering is simple - just walk in (might feel strange since Sonic used to occupy the building, but trust me, you can go inside), and place your order at the counter, or you can go through the drive thru. New bread and cool spot alert for Gilbert/Mesa area! I've always known this spot was near my office, but didn't realize they took over the old sonic here. Oh a whim, I wanted to get something new for lunch, so I downloaded their app and placed my lunch order for pick up. They have so many delicious options from breakfast, to lunch combos, to pizza, to just loaves of bread. My order: Chicken BLT on a rosemary salt bagel with an oatmeal apricot cookie, and a side salad. I also ordered the Berry White cold brew for additional $2 in their combo section. I went over to pick-up for lunch and decided to stay since they have outdoor seating with misters (very much needed in our 100 degree summers!) They also have curb-side pick up AND a drive-thru. My lunch was delicious - the chicken blt was soo good, especially on the bagel. It was so soft and not overly chewy. As a coffee-girlie, I can confidently say their coffee is DANG good. The people here are so nice and helpful. We have tried a number of their offerings - breads, bagels, and cookies. My husband brought home some of the sourdough starter - but that's a whole different story (it's like trying to take care of a toddler!). It's a small store with outdoor seating. We stopped by on a Saturday for lunch and it wasn't too busy when ordering inside. Both registers were open so we were helped right away. My sister ordered the breakfast bagel sandwich (B2), I ordered the Chicken BLT with a side salad, and my friend had the pepperoni slice combo. We sat outside and watched as the drive thru was non stop busy. Waited about 20 minutes and our orders started coming out one by one. My chicken blt sandwich was really good. It was flavorful and hot. My sister didn't care for her breakfast sandwich as she said it had no flavor and it was very messy. My friends pepperoni slice came out lukewarm and tasted old. They have a really nice variety of bagel flavors, and you can fully customize your breakfast sandwich. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The cream cheese has this perfect tang, and the bagel itself tasted like it had been steamed rather than toasted, which gave it a soft, chewy texture we loved. You can order through the drive-thru or head inside, and there's outdoor seating only. The space still has that fun "former Sonic" vibe, but in the best way. Stopped in today for lunch and had the club sandwich on focaccia and my boyfriend had the Italian sandwich on focaccia. Both sandwiches were delicious and we each had the wheatberry salad and really liked that too -- definitely a unique salad, I haven't had anything like it before. I think I may have liked the Italian more than my club sandwich, but I'm a sucker for anything with pesto on it. They had me at "award winning bread". Was very excited when I learned that this place was right near my work's home base. Had to drop stuff off there today so I took it as an opportunity try Barrio! I went through the drive thru. There was no line, just a few people ordering inside. They took my order right away and just took about 5 min or so for it to be ready. I LOVE foccacia and Sicilian style pizza so I got 2 slices, potato and onion, and verde with pesto, feta, tomatoes, and olives (I removed the olives, don't like them!). My total was $15, which seemed like a lot, but the slices are large. Crust was fluffy inside, crisp outside. Toppings were fresh and flavorful. It's okay. The bagels were good and I appreciated that there was good coverage of "seasonings" around the whole bagel rather than just the top. Unfortunately what takes this place down a notch (or a few) is the service, and when you're paying $6/bagel, you hope for good service. For being drive-through/up we waited a long time for our food. And even then, our order was wrong (the receipt was correct but when we got home our breakfast sandwich was missing). Additionally, they don't serve the whole menu all day and that fact isn't on their website or menu, or clearly found anywhere. We were excited to try the pizza and sandwiches but only after trying to place our order were we informed that only breakfast was being served. Went here on a Saturday morning for a fresh bagel sandwich and it did not disappoint! The service was quick and they were very helpful explaining the options for their bagel sandwiches. Waited only about 5 minutes for my sandwich to come out and it was perfect. Bagel had a great outer crust with a soft and chewy inside. I do wish the sandwich had a little more of the chipotle aoli but other than that it was great! Came in today after a long hard day of work in this summer heat. Looked on google for nearby places for lunch and came across this place. So glad I stopped by wish I took a better picture of this sando. I ordered the L2 lunch combo on the menu. Words can't describe my first experience. After i was done with my meal it brought a tear to my eye from the goodness I just had that I had to download the yelp app and leave a good review and to my surprise I seen a couple bad reviews. I read a couple of them and I am glad this place is still around for me to be able to give it a try. My order was out in a timely manner and food was at a good temperature. Will definitely return with my girlfriend to try out the bagels and slices along with the other cold brews they have. Great job guys read more
